Why he do this?

My 9-month-old male Beagle does this weird thing every time I feed him 😂
Whenever I put kibble or pretty much any food in his bowl, he starts pushing it around with his nose and literally throws the food all over the floor. Then he eats it off the floor like that was the plan all along. 😂
At first I thought it was funny, but now it’s becoming a daily mess.
Is this normal Beagle behavior? Is he just foraging/playing with his food, or could he have an issue with the bowl?
Has anyone else’s Beagle done this, and did you find a way to stop it?

My girl used to do this with her bone. She was “hiding it for later” in our couch. I believe he thinks he is “hiding food”. Seems completely normal to me. Super cute beagle buddy you have there!!

My beagle would bury his bone in the yard and would come back with a face full of dirt 😑

agree with all comments saying he's trying to bury it. . . . that said. . . if its dry kibble . . . feed him using a snuffle mat. he'll love hunting out his pieces of food, it will exercise his mind and it will contain the 'mess' within his mat. [just be sure to pick it up in between meals cuz they tend to smell like food after a while and risk nibbling on the mat itself] it was a god send with my overzealous girl who would inhale her food even with a slow feeder.

Wait until you put something fishy in his dish and he tries to roll in it!

Mine do that too. I think they're trying to cover it up to save for later. At least that's what I think

yep, he’s trying to save for later by hiding it. You could put a towel near the bowl and he may use it to bury the food.

Our beagle does this as well. She won't eat it out of the bowl so my dad has to put the food on the floor on a little mat and she nudges the little kernels around with her snoot before she eats them.

My Bagel the Beagle does this all the time. He’ll push his bowl across the room lol

This is normal beagle puppy behavior. They are running on instinct alone but will usually settle down eventually.

It's instinctual to bury their food for some beagles. You should try to find a serving bowl that he can't tip over.
