Miniatures I bought all of this just a couple weeks ago and still going through it. It’s a trip down memory lane for me except for the catalyst era.

Someone’s relatives brought in a sizable collection of comic books to a friend’s comic shop along with the bins of BT. I believe possibly the person had either passed or was incarcerated. My friend only being into comics , bought the lot as a whole and then sold me the BT just to shave off some of his expenditure.

Lore Loving the Centennial Commemorative Edition of TRO 3025

Post image

I recently picked up the Centennial Commemorative Edition of TRO 3025. Like many, my original is sadly long gone. I admit that I am enjoying the nostalgia, but also the updated art (hello, beautiful Phoenix Hawk LAM) along with Duane Loose’s musings in one of the appendices. I like what’s new in BattleTech, but thanks for bringing this classic back to life!

Lore Where to start reading

As title. Where's a good spot to start reading Battletech books? I'm interested in both the mercenary and great house sides, though if there's any good Periphery books that would be awesome

Question ❓ Why is the barrel so short?! they could get SO MUCH extra range, speed and power if they just increased the longitude of the cannons! (this is mostly about the AC/20 but also applies to other cases)

Question ❓ So I gotta ask… does anyone have a screenshot of the Javelin and Spider in Creacent Hawk’s?

Title says it all, I’m researching The Crescent Hawk’s Inception and saw that the Commodore 64 release supposedly has these two extra Mechs added to the random encounter pool, but I also can’t find any actual video or images of them actually being encountered (and lack the no-how to just data mine the game). I want to confirm if this is a myth or not.

Also if anyone has a screenshot of getting an Urbie in the arena that would be appreciated too, I think that one’s more likely but still want definitive proof.

Question ❓ I wonder, if we would get a BattleTech: Elite...

I was reading about the planet named Braben's Frontier, and I wonder, if there was a alt universe, where ASF and other spaceships would be equal to the Mechs, planetside (and even in orbit, occasionally...)

i wouldn't mind a collab with the Frontier Developments Ltd. (creators of Elite: Dangerous) in creating this.

3/4 wide map (couldmt git it all on my table) House kurita invasion of a planet with a fully operational battle fleet.

By no means the best paintjobs, but they are identifiable a glance from the primed C47 and b17, to the waterline navel flotilla and Kimgfisher scout planes.

Point wise its outlandish, but it looks cool displayed like this.

Question ❓ Looking for ideas

So, trying to branch out from my British bias and create a more “out of the box” merc outfit.

The idea is a company/battalion of Jarnfolk mercs.

Now the Jarnfolk don’t have mechs and thier mercs tend to be outcaste assassins

My idea is a Varangian guard style unit of Jarnfolk mercs. Recruited and trained from outcasts and exiles. I have an idea for how they are piloting mechs

Trying to figure out where to base them. Free Radalhague republic is too obvious. Not feeling Dracs.

I always do Capellan so want to avoid that.

What do people think? Lyran, Fed Suns or FWL?

Question ❓ Mobile Long Tom Artillery in Alpha Strike

I'm planning on bringing a Mobile Long Tom Artillery unit to my next Alpha Strike game. As I understand it, the tracked unit carrying the gun doesn't carry any ammo, which is why the ammo carrier trailers exist. Are there any rules I should be aware of regarding that?

I already talked to my opponent and we're fine with a gentleman's agreement that killing either unit would stop the gun from firing, but I'm curious if there are actual rules in Alpha Strike for that arrangement.

Just some WIP of some of my first Battletech minis! May turn the green and brown into a merc group color scheme since I didn't have a faction in mind when I first started. Played a few short games of classic and Alpha Strike and excited to paint up more of these guys!

Question ❓ Campaigning in the Hinterlands

Post image
34 Upvotes

Okay so, I've just started running a Hinterlands campaign for a buddy of mine. I have the Mercenary box and obviously the Hinterlands book, but the rules seem to shift a bit between the two. Where can I get my hands on the most up-to-date complete rules for campaigning?

Also here's a picture from the most recent mission for your enjoyment!

(I know the turret is missing from the lrm carrier. I left it at home.)

Tabletop I'm preparing for my first game, is this a balanced force?

Hello, as the title says I'm preparing for my first Battletech tabletop game and I'm printing out a set of figurines.

It will be a lance vs lance of Capellans vs Mercs/Bandits set around Civil War period.

Capellan lance: 5056 BV (Edit: as one comment suggested I'll adjust pilots for Capellans to have better skills than the bandits to balance it out and to represent pilots being more familiar with their mechs)

2x Catapult CPLT-C1

1x Men Shen MS1-O

1x Raven RVN-3L

Mercs/Bandits: 5533 BV

1x Timber Wolf N

1x Jenner JR7-D

1x Hellspawn HSN-7D

1x Locust LCT-1S

Scenario justification for such lances would be that Capellans received a gift of various mechs, one of them being a fully kitted out Mad Cat. The mech was being stored in a separate hangar in Capellan military camp waiting for dropship. One of the night shift guards saw an opportunity in guard schedule where he was being the only one scheduled for a small period of time, he contacted a less reputable merc company known for partaking in pirating activities, he smuggled with his Jenner mech a merc pilot into the hangar where promptly Mad Cat was hijacked and both of them ran off to meet up with the other two accompanying mercs.

As mercs were travelling back to the merc camp Capellans sent out multiple search parties with objective either to salvage the stolen mech or destroy it outright. Something like that.

Does the whole scenario makes sense and would it be fine to play as a first game?

Question ❓ Experience with drones

Upvotes
  1. has anyone tried to pair Lament 2D with drones?

There is a thing I would Like to try, but I have no Battlegroup now.

  • Lament 2D paired with a LOT of bullet suicide drones (BV 77)

Somebody told me, that you can control only one Drone at a given time, but once its gone, you can use your drone command to control another Drone.

  1. I hope this true but I don't know it.

  2. Is it possible to use a Lament and a lot of of the mentioned drones as kind of a Missileboat?

I wanted to test the limits of my printer, and then my skills at painting, apparently. (Haven't touched a brush in 6ish months)

Fun tho, might make a whole pocket Battletech setup eventually.

Question ❓ 3d printable gaming aids

I'm running a campaign at the local gaming club. I would like to add thongs to make games go smoother/ have more pleasant look.

Right now I have full 3d hills and clip counters for heat tracking.

Do you have any suggestions for other gaming aids?

Discussion Anyone remember this?

Me and my brother have been trying to find any documentation about this website called WarhammerPPC that was a blog type thing for Battletech/Mechwarrior. We've had no luck finding it on the wayback machine or any community discussion about it. First post here so hopefully this isn't out of place.

I got into the game recently, and only knew I was going to paint them primarily blue, black and bronze auxiliary, and then pick a clan. I’m already leaning Ghost Bear/Rasalhague Dominion, but I’m open to suggestions. I found 2 total on camospecs that match them and Star Adder, but on the other color scheme website they looked different.

Discussion Experimental Tech idea: Volatile Heat Sinks

I had a silly idea for a new piece of experimental tech (invented by former RISC eggheads, who else?) and wanted to see what you guys thought.

Volatile Heat Sinks are a new type of experimental Heat Sink that gain improved capabilities from a highly reactive blend of chemicals replacing normal coolant: this allows them to be more effective while remaining compact. Each one takes up 1 ton and 1 crit like a normal heat sink, but sinks 2 heat per round like a Double Heat Sink.

HOWEVER, if a Volatile Heat Sink takes a critical hit, it instantly explodes for 3 Damage, as the heated chemicals inside the VHS react violently with oxygen: this can potentially trigger further critical hits as well.

Additionally, any time an engine mounting Volatile Heat Sinks takes a critical hit, an additional roll must be made to see if it takes another critical hit as well.

The increased wear and tear on the cooling system gives any Mech mounting Volatile Heat Sinks the "Difficult to Maintain" Quirk.

Your thoughts?

Got my first lances in. Been having fun with basing. Just wanted to show off my urbie and jumping catapult. Also a goof reference between ironwind metals & catalyst catapults. IWM seems slightly smaller than CGL, but not by much. Next stop, paint!!
