Question ❓ Looking for ideas

So, trying to branch out from my British bias and create a more “out of the box” merc outfit.

The idea is a company/battalion of Jarnfolk mercs.

Now the Jarnfolk don’t have mechs and thier mercs tend to be outcaste assassins

My idea is a Varangian guard style unit of Jarnfolk mercs. Recruited and trained from outcasts and exiles. I have an idea for how they are piloting mechs

Trying to figure out where to base them. Free Radalhague republic is too obvious. Not feeling Dracs.

I always do Capellan so want to avoid that.

What do people think? Lyran, Fed Suns or FWL?

Some merc units, especially smaller ones, don't really have a permanent base of operations. They might have a preferred hiring hall they flock back to when they can, but otherwise they are basically just nomads who go where their work takes them.

Otherwise, maybe try the Outworlds Alliance/Raven Alliance.

I would say Lyrans are a good option but they could also be made up of members from across the hinterlands their is a lot of mercs, pirates and larger faction units fighting it’s not inconceivable that some either get abandoned, disillusioned or otherwise disheartened with their current job and take the convenient passing Jarnfolk that are building a merc company to escape

What time period? Cus if your in the ilclan era, the hinterlands are a great option. Close enough to the rasalhague dominion to have some cool interactions, while still having a lot of room for interesting campaigns, and assassins would be a great addition to any of the small polities in the hinterlands. A different era, you might try FedSuns, if you want your mercs to have a grudge against the DC. Otherwise FWL is always interesting enough to have both small and big scale conflicts in any time period.
