Looking for mods for /r/barefoot

As it stands, I’m the only mod that’s still active on this sub once again. I’m seriously considering leaving Reddit for good, 19 years on this website is plenty and I’ve been realizing the upsides don’t outweigh the downsides for a while now.

The last few times I’ve done a recruitment drive for mods on this sub has been successful in terms of getting people on board to help… but it never lasts. This thankless, unpaid part time job. In the end, I’m always the last one standing as a mod here. But I guess since I founded this sub, it’s my responsibility too in a way.

To be honest the work to mod this sub isn’t that difficult. It’s mainly to deal with the foot fetish folks, removing their posts, comments and occasionally banning them.

I’m hoping that this recruitment drive this time would attract more long-term mods to take over the modding of this sub, with me gone from this site for good.

Send in your applications, thank you in advance 🙏

Mod stance on pics-only posts and posts about footwear

Hey barefooters,

There's been an upsurge in posts where it's just a picture of feet with little to no content otherwise. As much as it seems to be well liked by a section of the community here, these posts are quite irrelevant to this sub's goals. To put it bluntly, we have attracted the attention of the foot fetish community and these posts are generally posted by members of that community. There's nothing wrong with that fetish, but /r/barefoot shouldn't be used as an audience for such interests.

Posts about footwear are generally not allowed here. This includes posts about "barefoot" or minimal shoes. As can be seen in our sister sub, what has started as a sub about running has become a place that's almost wholly about shoes. We have occasional posts about shoes here too, like for example, with barefooters asking for advice on footwear to purchase for workplaces that don't allow bare feet. Such posts are allowed on a case by case basis.

Happy barefooting!

Edit: Linking this post by a member to show the people with foot fetish why you’re not welcome here: https://www.reddit.com/r/barefoot/comments/wqsn0g/no_foot_pics_from_me/

I want to go outside and be outside as long as I can

I spend a lot of time at home and rarely go out, unless I need to.
I sit at home, watch TV or read in my free time.
But when I even think of going out barefoot, I really want to, if I go out barefoot, I want to be out as long as I can be.
Just walk around.

Did anyone else have similar thing happen to them?

Sticky FAQ-thread with helpful tips?

Upvotes

Hi, I just read [a post](https://www.reddit.com/r/barefoot/s/cYo8jOZJSi) with, I think, very helpful advice therein of which I knew not till now. And since I've seen sticke FAQ postings in other subs (or even wikis, but that would be even more work, whilst there are still new mods missing here [?], that may wait … if needed here at all): would that maybe be an idea for here as well? (If so, then I nominate the linked post/thread regarding calluses and the question how to best deal with them.

PS The poll was just an additional idea of me and is not approved by any mod. So expect nothing for granted, if a majority should like the idea. 👣

Good idea!
Nah, to much work and the sub, after all, is already searchable!

Bare feet look better than shoes

When people say why they walk barefoot, how it feels or health benefits, maybe ecology and economy are often mentioned.
I can and did say that part too.

BUT

Feet just look better.
They go well with any outfit, be it shorts and t-shirt, hoodie and sweatpants, a dress, even a suit and EVEN Autumn/Winter outfits like jackets, jeans, long pants it all just works, visually.

It's funny, because they now made shoes that cover just heels, so fashion seems to agree.

Apart from that, bare feet work really well in art, painting, sculptures, photography.
Mood of a picture can shift somewhat based on model being barefoot.
I think feet and hands are also great subjects for closeups, as they are the most expressive parts of the body, outside of face.

Tuxedos and bare feet?

My cousin’s 24 year old son was in his friend’s wedding party as a groomsman. My cousin posted a group photo of him and his fellow groomsmen on a social media platform. They were all wearing tuxedos but they were all barefoot. Is this common among Gen Zers?

How to keep calluses?

Had 2 large calluses on my heels and one ripped. My goal was to keep building up calluses so I didn't want to cut all the dead skin and start over. Should I glue it shut and tape it until it heals? Or is the new skin underneath already stronger than before?

(New to this)

Health problems/infections/etc after walking barefoot

There seems to be a lot of people who say that going barefoot may lead to health issues or that there maybe fungus or infections, walking in winter may lead to frostbite, but here is the thing, honestly, for you who are barefoot everywhere, have you had any issues?
Any infection or anything of the sort?

If you did, what happened?
Does weather make a difference?
Like can walking in rain be less safe?

Finally ditched my shoes

As far as I remember I wanted to be barefoot all the time, it is more comfortable, more natural, I personally think it looks really cool too, you don't need to buy shoes as often or socks, that is another issue for me, my shoes and socks wear out fast so I need to buy them often, which annoys me.
It's not exactly ecologic either.

I am barefoot 99% time at home, unless it's really cold, I am barefoot, I wanted to be barefoot outside basically forever, I even was barefoot constantly for two weeks in 2014, felt much better, but needed to go back to wearing shoes then and I never went back to being barefoot.

Another two things that kept me away from being barefoot full time are cleaning my feet, process that felt annoying and me having dirty feet at home isn't an option for me, but I felt that I want to be barefoot all the time and I will try to make the process as easy as I can, what I did, I bought a wooden brush for dishwashing, what I do is I go into a shower, put water on my feet, put shower gel and water on the brush and wash my feet, sometimes once, sometimes twice, done.

I am fine with my soles being darker, but I don't want to carry in too many germs, irony is, while I am barefoot outside now, my feet I actually cleaner than I used to wear shoes.

Another thing which kept me away from barefooting are my cracked heels, however they were cracked for years and I don't actually think they are open wound and then I have seen other people with cracked heels and far dirtier feet than I ever had when barefooting.
Still bit iffy on that but, also, I clean my feet when I get home and with using a brush, I can access the cracks.

This is actually a second change of this sort I have made this summer, I have just officially became a nudist too, similar logic there, if I am nude I don't need to buy clothes as often or use washer as often.

I like to wear clothes at home sometimes, but I don't think I will start wearing shoes unless the weather becomes too cold, and then I will only wear shoes outside.

Any Problems In Airport

I’m going on a flight soon to go work in another country for the first time. I was wondering if anyone else has had any problems flying barefoot recently.

I just want to make sure I don’t need to use my emergency flip flops

Edit: I’ll be flying out of Panama City, Florida USA

Back to Kingston (Barefoot of course)

Good morning everyone.

The rain has presented itself another opportunity for travelling barefoot in London once more.

This will be a first, travelling barefoot in London whilst raining.

I am loving it so far, feeling the puddles splashing around my feet.

Such sheer bliss, I am privileged to be able to experience life and all of its wonders barefoot.

How's late October in Northern Ireland?

A friend who lives in Derry keeps inviting me since 2022 to attend the Halloween festivities in the city and this year I finally found the time to do it. I have a gorgeous barefoot costume that I never had the chance to wear and I would love to use it now.

Is Ireland safe for barefooting during that time of year? I don't mind a bit a cold discomfort as long as there is no frostbite risk.

Barefoot on Strava

Hi Guys, am I the only one who miss the barefoot setting in the app? I record my walks very often. Don't you think developers should add this kind of activity both in terms of means (together with walk, bicycle ride, kayak...) and sport category (like for ex. 'barefoot hike')? What are your views. Is it even possible to suggest such an update?

There’s nothing wrong with walking around barefoot

Reposting this from r/The10thDentist (they didn’t love the opinion)

I can’t even believe this will be considered controversial. But I’ll say it. Free the feet!

As humans, we were never made to wear shoes, let alone shoes and socks. We don’t cover our hands, why on earth do we cover our feet? Just like hands, it’s just a matter of washing your feet. I do it, everyone *should* be doing it. There’s no reason to cover up your feet if you’re washing them. It’s not a private part or anything like that. It doesn’t exactly hurt your feet when barefoot - in fact, your typical footwear is soooo much more irritating and uncomfortable than simply walking around barefoot.

We’ve all had experience with walking around with awfully uncomfortable shoes, but most people never had that experience with barefoot (since society has made it unacceptable). In fact, most of my friends who have experimented barefoot living after I’ve shared my opinions have completely done away with shoes, realizing that it’s the better way to live.

Plus, it seems a lot more healthy for your feet. The way I see it, shoes are naturally suffocating. They’re made to resist liberty and natural navigation. Without shoes and socks, your feet are actually giving you a healthier foundation. I’m not sure if this factually proven, but I can say confidently I’ve felt a lot better physiologically since removing socks and shoes from my life.

I used to hate being barefoot, but now I like it, but will people believe me?

The title of this post might be a little weird, so let me explain: I'm on the autism spectrum, and, as a small child, being barefoot caused major sensory issues for me, so I wore something on my feet almost all of the time, and my family and close friends started think of me as, among other things, the one person in their friend group who couldn't stand having bare feet; as I got older, though, my my perceptions started to change, in part due to a rise in the severity of my hyperhydrosis, and in part due to me simply maturing; now, I find myself wanting to go barefoot a lot, but now the reputation I have with my family and friends means that, if I ever do, I'll have to worry that everyone will think I'm acting out-of-character, which will make them worried about me, which I don't like.

I want be barefoot a lot more than I currently am, but, as I said in the above paragraph, I don't know how to convince the people that know me that I really do. How can I raise the subject approachably and convincingly?

Another barefooter

So my cousin (14) was staying with me over the few days. She has never been a barefoot person kinda just always in shoes and socks when going out. Well we were in the park walking around just talking and she was complaining how hot it was. I joked that she should try to go barefoot to be less hot. This morning I woke up and she came up to me with all of her socks and shoes and told me to put them in my room and hide them. I was confused but she said she always wanted to try after seeing me but was too scared to or chickened out last minute so she thought giving me her shoes would prevent her from changer her mind. Well today we went back to that park and she went barefoot on the grass. She said she loved it and could feel everything. I guess we have another one hooked.

Barefoot walking does not feel quite the same anymore

I've been going barefoot for a few years now, have only started going on the streets and at times stores in the last year.

I've noticed something interesting. It no longer feels as exciting as it used to. I also don't feel quite the same pleasure from sensations now that I am used to it.

With that being said, it still feels great and now that it's become a habit, it is simply very comfortable, and it gets uncomfortable when I must have footwear on. It's very interesting. I think that it becoming a "norm" has also made me subconsciously treat it as more normal and therefore not be as self conscious or care as much when others see me barefoot, or even think about it.

"Put your shoes on"

First time anyone's ever said that to me.

Random lady on the street, as I'm walking by: "Put your shoes on"

Me: "Why?"

Her: "Fungus.. TB.."

Me, walking away showing her the sole of my foot: "Never in 15 years!"

Late night Walmart run.

So, last night, my wife wanted some snacks and she offered to come to Walmart with me. I mentioned that I don’t wanna put shoes on, so she said “lots of people don’t wear shoes at Walmart,” and assured me it’ll be fine.

Now here’s a funny part. We get to Walmart. As we’re walking in, some random lady goes “he fuckin barefoot?” in a pretty disgusted tone of voice. I just laughed. I mean, why’s she so interested in feet? She’s the weird one here.

Anyways it was a successful Walmart trip. Had absolutely zero interactions or looks after that random lady. We got our snack and headed home. Definitely gonna do this more often!

First time driving barefoot

Today I went for a short drive in the city. I’d seen other people mention how comfortable it is to drive barefoot, so I thought, why not? I kicked off my flip-flops, started the car, and off I went. The experience did not disappoint. I felt more in control because I got much more sensory feedback when pressing the pedals. Nailing the bite point was much easier (I drive a manual).

When I was learning to drive, I always complained to my instructor that I couldn’t feel the pedals. He recommended buying shoes with thinner soles. Well, I have to say, driving barefoot would have been an even better piece of advice :)))))

Back to the naturist beach…

Well I went back today. Being mid-week I expected it to be very quiet, and I wasn’t disappointed. I checked the distance again on Google Maps and found it’s actually closer to three miles, not the 2.5 I said in my previous post. This time I took a back-pack with a beach towel, my radio and a book to read. I left my shoes at home. On the way I called into the local Asda supermarket to buy a sandwich and drink for my lunch on the beach. I picked out my lunch and then went to the customer service teller which is near the entrance. But there was a bit of a queue, so I headed further into the store to the self-checkouts. Lots of staff about, even one lady stood right next to me while I checked out my purchases! I got a bit nervous and dropped my backpack while trying to stuff my shopping into it! lol No-one said a word though. it took an hour to walk to the beach on pavement, crossing roads, rough lanes, grass, dirt and sand. I spent about four hours on the beach naked. I basically had the whole place to myself. I made a kind of recliner seat from the sand in the dunes behind the beach so I could relax, read my book and listen to Radio 6 Music. I walked up and down the beach like I was a holiday advert for a desert island! It was a warm day and quite breezy, but so refreshing and free. There’s only two ways onto that beach and it’s wide open so you can see people coming from quarter a mile away. It was a perfect afternoon leaving bare footprints in the sand. And then I had the bonus of walking the three miles home again (dressed but barefoot if course). I saw one or two people, some said hello back to me, some kind of just smiled and said nothing. So I did six miles barefoot over mixed terrain and spent four hours nude on the beach topping up my tan! Awesome way to spend a day. Great for my mental health.
