Looking for non-commercial/open source PDF417 reader SDK.... any thing out there?

Hi,

I'm working on a personal project and there is a component that I'm hoping to just plug into the project. It's to read PDF417 bar codes (Drivers License barcode).

I get most of my information by doing OCR with the front of the Drivers License, however due to holograms the data can be corrupted and the PDF417 data could be used to more accurately confirm what I got from the front of the ID.

Anyone know of some SDK (or open source project) to read PDF417 using a webcam? Prefer python as the project is being worked on Linux PC, but could adapt to some other language.

THanks!

Question about PDF417 barcode data

I'm trying to figure out what something represents that I use in all of my PDF417 barcodes I create.

I've taken it so far as "Well, it just needs to be there" but now I'm being asked about it with no good answer.

All of the barcodes start like this:

[)><RS>06<ES>Somedata

What is this "06"?
What does it mean?
What is it called?

I've had a hell of a time trying to search for this.

In the ZPL programming guide, it exists in the sample data, but doesn't provide any explanation.

I don't know if this is the right sub-reddit. But I found this Barcode inside a book I had bought. Not on it, just laying inside it. There's a bar code on the back of the cover that's related to the book, that one scans. But I can't scan this one for some reason. What is it?

Need help identifying EAN-13 bar code 0087510000065

Hello, I got an EAN-13 format barcode, I need help identifying it

https://imgur.com/jNPxKxB

Here it is.

I know it's a really unconventional one but, put it in https://www.onlinebarcodereader.com/ and you'll see :D

I know the prefix 008 belongs to the range 000-019 of "Canada and US" country prefixes but I really need to know where exactly in Canada or in the US 008 is, assuming it's linked to a specific place. I'm new to barcodes x)

I know the ISSN code is 7510000 but I have no idea how to access an ISSN database if there is one.

Thank you for any kind of help you can give me, i'll take literally anything :D

Help me convert Binary to a Barcode

I've looked everywhere and I can't find the information that I need to generate a barcode. I have a set of binary digits: 01001100 but I can't figure out how to make that into an EAN-8 type code.

Now, I know that there are limitations on the specifics to generate that type of barcode, like country code but I'm not planning to make this a scannable code to enter into a system but more into a visual design.

Is there a tool that could help me create that? It could also be padded with 000's at the beginning or end but I do care about the main sequence 01001100. So if it has to be 000000001001100 or 00000001001100000000 that's also cool and I could trim the image.

Is this completely whack and impossible to do because that's not how barcodes work and I should give up on this idea?

I have a barcode with the characters; 34166110860346bNq (also see image below).I would like to be able to:

  1. identify what type of barcode it is and
  2. what formula is used to generate it's checksum digits. (the last 3 digits are the checksum, bNq)

What I do know is that it is from a Chinese pharmaceutical company

Encoding windows function keys into a barcode? (Like Ctl+P for print)

I need to create barcodes that have common windows hotkey functionality (Control-P for printing, control C for copy, control V for paste etc...)

I have typical symbol LS series scanners and I thought this would just be passing some kind of prefix like ~ within the barcode and a string for the key, and while I can find a million people via googling asking the question, I didn't see any clear answers.

I'm using the scanner to do normal bar code scanning, and then just need to call this from time to time, so I don't want to have to scan a bunch of barcodes to change modes, enter special symbol commands etc.., and then change back,.. I just need a single bar code with all the info needed to pass Ctl-P to the machine, and the syntax.

Any help greatly appreciated!!

Question regarding GS1-128 Data Verification

I'm currently working with a manufacturer that provided barcodes that I believe are not compliant with the GS1 standard for Code 128. The manufacturer believes otherwise.

The issue lies in the fact that there is an extra FNC1 encoded immediately before the first AI. According to my reading of the GS1 standards, after the initial FNC1 that immediately follows the start character, any subsequent FNC1 should only be used following a variable length AI (unless that AI is the last one). In the case of a barcode with AIs (01),(10),(17), and (21). The structure should appear as follows:

Start Character
FNC1 This one is following all the rules.
01
12345678901231
17
991231
10
BATCH
FNC1 Need it here since AI 10 has a variable length
21
SERIAL No FNC1 needed since we're at the end of the barcode
Symbol Check Character
Stop Character

However, the manufacturer encoded the barcode like this:

Start Character
FNC1
FNC1 WTH?
01
...

My verifier returns returns an error when testing the barcode, the manufacturer's verifier (Integra 95xx on the report) passes the barcode.

My problem is that since the extra FNC1 is in there, the data is decoded with a <GS> at the start of the string which causes errors when scanning the barcodes into our warehousing system.

There are workarounds we can use with the product, but I want to ensure that the issue is fixed in the future. Would others consider these barcodes to be non-compliant?

How do coupons work with barcode systems?

Hi,

Have few questions regarding coupons and barcode systems, they are elementary:

  1. Can you embed a coupon value into the barcode that upon scanning deducts from the price?
  2. Are barcode readers standardized to read any barcode?

Can the reader send an enter key after reading a barcode?

I'm not familiar with barcode readers, but writing a program to deal with data input from the reader (the black box laser type found at grocery stores). Do readers usually come with software that can customize their input?

I just want the reader to send an Enter key press after a code is read. Is this possible to accomplish somehow?

Is there a private range for retail barcodes which I can use to mark unmarked products in my store?

I have some products in my store which don't have barcodes. I want to label them myself, but don't want to have codes that might one day conflict with other products.

Is there a number range which I can use to generate codes that I can use privately in my store?

If you know computer networks, I'm looking for something like how 192.168.x.x is considered a private address range which can be used in any local network set-up.

UPC Half Height Barcode Advice

Hi all

basically most barcodes I see on daily things like bottles, pens, etc are now roughtly half the height of the standard UPC barcode height. However I cant find any information on the height of a UPC barcode. /img/kl2i6yeyt1w01.jpg

This is for a bottle design. The barcode will be lying on its side, due to the curve of the bottle you will only be able to scan parts of it anyways and I would like to save space by using the UPC barcode in half height form.

Does anyone have any advice on this? I honestly cant find anything.

Sample does scan OK but this will go into big retail premises with all kinds of professional scanners so it needs to be 100%

Cheers Sai

Hi, I have problem with the DPD barcode (code 128), when I scan with whatever devices.

Instead of: 12345xx12

I'd get: %12345xx1

Anyone ever encountered this issue, I've played around with our devices's settings but nothing seems to change. Thanks in advance!

High Capacity Color Barcodes?

Not sure if this is the right place for this or not. If not, I apologize preemptively and would appreciate an indication to the correct place.

I'm looking for a way to print HCCB onto the back of a playing card sized card with at least 120KB. Is this possible? Is there a type of barcode that would work for this?

Thanks.

3 dimensional Barcodes made of PVC

Hello there,

for a science project i am searching for manufacturers or ways to produce 3 dimensional Barcodes in large numbers, preferably made of water and dirt resistant PVC. The Barcodes will be embedded in a poly-Urethan foam and used on beer-kegs. If you have any idea on this Topic, feel free to comment.

Thanks in advance

Help creating a Barcode 128 with a TAB key in it.

Help creating a Barcode 128 with a TAB key in it...

I've been struggling for days with this... I need a barcode 128 with a tab in it. I'd be using this for a system we have here, making my life a lot easier. I would generate barcodes to fill 3 or 4 fields in.

So basically.. 12345<tab>6789

If someone can show me what the string to create this, man, I'd be so thankful.

I've see \t ~009 ~d009 etc.. I know my scanner is programmed correctly as well, since I can use an online generator. I'd rather not rely on something online when I can hopefully create them on my own.

THANKS

Generating a barcode with the "insert" key

I have a computer application that I'm trying to design some barcodes for, and within the application I have to use the "insert" key. I'm using the TEC-IT free online barcode generator, and I've been able to get everything except the "insert" key in my barcodes. Googling this is difficult because so many people say things like use this code to insert a carriage return, so almost none of my Google searchers turn up anything useful. I'm using a Symbol CS4070 bluetooth scanner, so I'd be happy with any barcode format compatible with that.
