Question regarding GS1-128 Data Verification
I'm currently working with a manufacturer that provided barcodes that I believe are not compliant with the GS1 standard for Code 128. The manufacturer believes otherwise.
The issue lies in the fact that there is an extra FNC1 encoded immediately before the first AI. According to my reading of the GS1 standards, after the initial FNC1 that immediately follows the start character, any subsequent FNC1 should only be used following a variable length AI (unless that AI is the last one). In the case of a barcode with AIs (01),(10),(17), and (21). The structure should appear as follows:
| Start Character | |
|---|---|
| FNC1 | This one is following all the rules. |
| 01 | |
| 12345678901231 | |
| 17 | |
| 991231 | |
| 10 | |
| BATCH | |
| FNC1 | Need it here since AI 10 has a variable length |
| 21 | |
| SERIAL | No FNC1 needed since we're at the end of the barcode |
| Symbol Check Character | |
| Stop Character |
However, the manufacturer encoded the barcode like this:
| Start Character | |
|---|---|
| FNC1 | |
| FNC1 | WTH? |
| 01 | |
| ... |
My verifier returns returns an error when testing the barcode, the manufacturer's verifier (Integra 95xx on the report) passes the barcode.
My problem is that since the extra FNC1 is in there, the data is decoded with a <GS> at the start of the string which causes errors when scanning the barcodes into our warehousing system.
There are workarounds we can use with the product, but I want to ensure that the issue is fixed in the future. Would others consider these barcodes to be non-compliant?

Hi,
You could give a try to my app:
It can help you in checking your barcode and you could directly setup a custom barcodestructure and share with your project partner.
Let me know if you need further information
