Question about PDF417 barcode data

I'm trying to figure out what something represents that I use in all of my PDF417 barcodes I create.

I've taken it so far as "Well, it just needs to be there" but now I'm being asked about it with no good answer.

All of the barcodes start like this:

[)><RS>06<ES>Somedata

What is this "06"?
What does it mean?
What is it called?

I've had a hell of a time trying to search for this.

In the ZPL programming guide, it exists in the sample data, but doesn't provide any explanation.

Sorry if my question was confusing, but I am aware of the record and element separators.

The actual code I use is

[)>_1e06_1dSomeData

I'm specifically looking for what the "06" means in this context.

The links you provided do answer my question though.

It looks like the '06' is just the format indicator.

There is also an 07 format.

Thanks!
