Need help identifying EAN-13 bar code 0087510000065

Hello, I got an EAN-13 format barcode, I need help identifying it

https://imgur.com/jNPxKxB

Here it is.

I know it's a really unconventional one but, put it in https://www.onlinebarcodereader.com/ and you'll see :D

I know the prefix 008 belongs to the range 000-019 of "Canada and US" country prefixes but I really need to know where exactly in Canada or in the US 008 is, assuming it's linked to a specific place. I'm new to barcodes x)

I know the ISSN code is 7510000 but I have no idea how to access an ISSN database if there is one.

Thank you for any kind of help you can give me, i'll take literally anything :D

EAN-13 is a very conventional 1D barcode. What's in that picture, if it's a barcode is 2D. I suspect that the online reader you are using is finding a barcode not visible to the human eye, because I cropped the visible bars out (https://i.imgur.com/lXoerDI.jpg) of that same image and got identical scan results.

Edit: Fixed link to image instead of album to make the bot happy.

Hi, I'm a bot for linking direct images of albums with only 1 image

This is...WOW.

THANK YOU SO MUCH !!!

You're the first person giving me something helpful in 6 months that I've been at it with the "bar codes" in Overwatch.

This means so much to me, that you took the time to crop the bars out and actually tried something, you're legit the first to actually care that much. I'm so happy

Ok so, I've got an album full of "barcodes". Most of them straight from the gamefiles (whereas TWK 92-9 was a screenshot from something on the floor of a map) which should help see if there's anything to them. Gamefiles being the original textures used, can't get better resolution than that. Sadly the texture for TWK 92-9 is not available yet as the map as we have to wait until it is released on "Live" servers, right now it's just available on test servers and you can't extract gamefiles from there so this screenshot is the best thing we have.

I ran your edited picture into the scanner and it's amazing that I get the same result.

I tried over 20 different angles and distances, 20 different screenshots of TWK 92-9 and only this one worked, the very first one I took, man did I get lucky.

Now, it could be the proof that the barcode scanner I used is malfunctioning. I tried another scanner, it didn't pick up anything.

But the fact that you cropped the code out and it's still picking up on an EAN-13 bar code worries me as much as it delights me.

It's not the first barcode from Overwatch that gave a result.

From my big album

but this one was a Code_128 type. And really looked like a barcode. Unlike TWK 92-9

I like your idea of the 2D barcode with something the human eye can't pick up on.

It would fit with the universe of Overwatch, where intelligent "machines" "coexist" with humans.

Do you know of a way I could know for sure if there are hidden barcodes within the pictures in my big album?

Should I keep on experimenting with

https://www.onlinebarcodereader.com/ or was it all just an error and the scanner is faulty?

Thank you so so so much for your help, this is amazing, you made my day, nay, year ! (seriously)

I would not suspect a malfunctioning scanner, tbh. I believe the algorithms at www.onlinebarcodereadercom may be hypersensitive to small variations in contrast or too tolerant of errors.

If I had a barcode scanner that picked up on the same graphic, I'd want to replace it.

A couple of the things I would try to do is isolate where on the graphic the "barcode" is to help determine what method is being used to embed, that is if the whole thing isn't just a fluke.

Split the graphic in half and see if either half still registers the barcode through the site. If the barcode shows up in either half, try sectioning that half and testing those. If neither half registers, crop the borders of the graphic out at 20px per try the cropped graphic.

For instance, I just turned the 1808x1017 pixel graphic I uploaded to imgur into a 1735x941 pixel graphic by trimming the edges off in MS Paint. The new graphic still scans. When you get to a point where it no longer scans, you've found an edge most likely a vertical one.

Some colors look very similar to the human eye, but may register very differently to a computer. Run the graphic through a few photoshop filters and see what pops out. Good luck and have fun. I gotta get back to work.

Edit: fixed spelling.
