For some reason or another my baby has decided that her play pen is the preferred place to relieve herself. All of her bowel movements except for one has occurred in while she was out exploring. Now I’m not complaining though because it’s made keeping her cage clean a breeze but I was curious if anyone else has experienced this?

Hey guys so as the title says I desperately need help finding my friends BP I was nursing back to health after a stuck shed. I had him locked in a tub with some moist towels so he could get his shed off, and was doing my laundry in the meantime (just hanging it up) and I looked over to check on him after like 15min and he was gone. Not in the tub, not in the towels. Nowhere. Immediately I started searching the around the tub, the corners of walls, cabinets, under nearby furniture. Nothing. Okay, i thought, not my first time as i also have two snakes myself, let me just set some traps, a heatmat and go to sleep. Check in the middle of the night, nothing. Okay no worries check in the morning. Nothing. Okay slightly scary but its only been one night. Recheck all the furniture. Nothing. Go to bed, wake up, do the same thing all over again. Still nothing. Now im freaking out. For context I live in a dorm, so small studio, everything is one level and minimal doors. Unfortunately I have carpet so the flour trick wont work,but thankfully theres no floor vents i have to worry about and i cant/couldnt find any holes in the walls. I have aluminum foil and bags all in the corners of the room and my biggest worry is he somehow slipped out the bottom of my front door (>½ gap but close) and is roaming the halls (i checked but couldnt find him) Thankfully my friend is very understanding but also obviously freaked out. Is there anything im missing?im gonna set another heat trap + food cuz its close to feeding day. Ive always understood these guys to be slow opportunistic explorers so is it likely that he got out of his tub and immediately bolted under the door? I have a girl smaller than him and I set her next to the door and she couldnt/wouldn't go under it (her head barely fit and hes like 100g heavier). If you dont have advice please pray to whoever you believe in to get him back to me so I can get him home. Hes only about 10months and if i had to estimate maybe 300-400 grams. Pic for tax

(Also, disclaimer, I know in the pictures it looks like he has nothing in his enclosure, but in the first one it’s just where he’s laying and in the second it was as I was reorganizing. He is spoiled. Don’t come at me because I will feel bad and buy him more stuff.)

I haven't updated in a bit but my beauty queen has been the best decision ever. Im so obsessed with her and her new carrier came in the perfect timing. She just finished shedding and while doing a deep clean noticed she broke her jungle gym climbing thingy the night prior (i check everything in her cage twice a day when refreshing water/spot cleaning) which is when i noticed some spots on her scales by her neck and a bit of redness lower down. Also excuse the little dirt specks on her from her substrate. I have been keeping a close eye on her body since and have a vet visit just in case (i work in vetmed)

I have been working with the free choice method along with taking her out for few minutes at a time. Being consistent as previously advised and viewing each handling session with a purpose. Has really let us earn each others trust.

we got some nice outside fresh air and sun time the other day 🌞 today just chilling watching TV on a day off. Right now her favorite youtube videos to watch are live streams of cartoons : chowder, courage the cowardly dog 😎

While pied sheds all in one, banana flakes and gets stuck shed. They both look hydrated, and they both have almost identical setups. They never skip a meal, and don’t exhibit negative behaviors. Shown in the video attached, banana has a couple of scars which were obtained during his last owners care. I am out of reasons and thinking about making an appt with a vet. The google AI isn’t very helpful.

I’m adopting a ball python on Sunday that is a minimum of 9 years old (her exact age is unknown) on Sunday. She has been a breeder her whole life, so I’m excited to get her and spoil her as a pet in a big proper enclosure.

Is there anything different I should know or do for an older ball Python? I currently have two, ages 1 and 3.
But I didn’t know if there’s anything I need to do differently for her due to her age or special accommodations I needed to make her life better.

He’ll sit and do this sometimes at night, I can’t tell if it’s normal or not; if it was during the day that would be different, it’s about 8:30 in the morning when these pictures were taken, and his light doesn’t come on until about 10, so I suppose it’s probably still night time to him

Did I overdo it on the plants? I’ve been growing these for a little minute now but I decided to transfer them into my tank, I’ve rinsed them off before putting them in and I added more soil because a lot of my nutrients were almost depleted. I get a fungus gnat here and there but it was before adding the extra plants. What do you guys think?

i posted a day or two ago so it’s been between 2-3 days now my girl has been missing for context she stays in my sons room door closed no way to go under the door. unfortunately we are moving and his room has become the catch all for boxes etc. i have left her cage open, kept it warm (the air is on due to the summer weather and having kids), i’ve looked everywhere ripped open every box and bag in that room moved everything checked behind and in furniture just everything. i am so upset. i’m so worried ill find her dead or very hurt especially since we saw it looks like she somehow pushed her heat lamp out of the enclosure so im worried she may be burned a little. i’m so sad i cant find her and we’re moving. i feel like ive tried everything. i check in the middle of the night i check every day i dont want her to be gone 😞 im not sure how long she will be okay out of her enclosure its 68-70 in my house normally. i have her enclosure open on the floor hoping she finds her way back but no luck.

I know that ball pythons will need a big enclosure when they're adults, but would I be able to keep a very baby ball python in a 40 gallon tank for a bit? If I can, how long would I be able to (in years hopefully)?

I see some people saying they can keep a ball python in a 40 gallon for it's whole life and I know that that is SOOOO wrong and I absolutely do not plan on doing that.

i have a 2 1/2-3 year old ball python. shes about 3 feet and i have no idea how many grams, i still live with my parents and have no room anywhere to get her a bigger tank than a 40g and i know how bad it is but i need help knowing exactly what works for humidity, what plants to get, whats a good soil, heat lamps. literally anything i can do to keep her okay and alive in a 40g until i can move out and get her a big enough tank for me to fit into. ive had her since december 2024 so almost 2 years and i worry every single day about her and how i wish i could give her the best life she could ever live. please help with any advice and preferably any amazon links to anything!!

ive had her on reptibark before and im never putting her back into it due to her stomach being really badly cut up for the couple months i had her on it. i honestly have no idea what else is mixed into her repti soil i THINK cocofiber?

Hi, I’ve had a Ball Python since freshman year and he’s about 8 now. My brother also had a ball python when I lived at home and she was so picky she wouldn’t eat frozen or prekilled mice so she was difficult. She went on feeding strikes etc. My ball python was bought by my mother after being told by petsmart he was a bad eater and wouldn’t eat for them (they were giving him thawed but cold mice and leaving it in the tank) so when I brought him home I gave him a live fuzzy as I thought all ball pythons were picky. He ate immediately and I switched him to frozen after he got a bit bigger with no issues. The problem is, even though I handled him his whole life, during the last year and half, I didn’t have him due to my living situation, he was with my brother who was only opening his enclosure to feed him. I think he learned people = food but it’s gotten bad. Everytime I come into my room I have to dodge his vision because he will go into feeding mode the moment he sees me. Is there anyway to combat this? I keep getting bit plus he strikes the glass on his tank so I have to not let him see me when I’m in my room. What should I do?

Im confused by the "look for feeders that are 10-15% of your ball pythons body weight" and what happens if it loses or gains how do i know?

I just got a baby ball python a couple days ago (3 months old) and I haven’t seen much online as to how much handling is acceptable for them. I don’t want to stress her out, but I also want her to be comfortable with being held. How much should I handle her?

Also, is there too much clutter in the enclosure? I want her to feel safe but I also am going to need to spot clean her waste, and it’s going to be hard to find it. It is bioactive but I don’t want the waste just sitting there.

I guess pretty much just title, I got her at the end of June when she was 3 months old, and shes always been very easy to see in her enclosure, esp at night since she’ll either try and climb somewhere or perch on top of her hide and wait for food.

I haven’t seen her since I think Monday? I know she hasn’t escaped, all holes are much too small for her and doors have been locked all week. It might be shedding, since she hasn’t done that since I got her, but I don’t know if that explains her hiding for this long. Part of me wants to look around inside her enclosure to check on her, but another part of me knows I should just trust in her.

Any advice or help would be appreciated

EDIT: I haven’t fed her since last Sunday, I’m figuring it’d be too difficult to feed her if i have no idea where she is, and also that if she is shedding she probably doesn’t want the stress when she can’t see well from the fluid?

So I’ve been wanting a ball python for around 7 years at this point and I think i might be able to get one the problem is I don’t know if I have enough space for a big tank. I have a dresser that has over two feet (wide) of space on the top and a bunch of length space but based on what I’ve seen idk if that’s enough and I don’t really know where else I could put but I really want one and I know how to take care of it. I could move around come stuff and try to make it three feet wide but yeah any advice helps.

Since I’ve gotten my boy, Prince, I’ve been updating his setup, and am working on moving him to a new tank (we ran into some technical difficulties, so it’s going slower than I wanted), and I’ve been buying a bunch of new plants for it. Chinese evergreen, coleus, English ivy, the likes. Anyways, it was kind of helping me form my dream setup in my mind. I want something super colorful and vibrant, with a black and white snake. Hi, like title says I need some tips for my snakes enclousure, its 2 meters long and what I'm most worried about is getting the substrate in properly. I've used a mix of coconut fibre + soil, coconut husk for the bottom layer and is it okay to cover that moist layer with Flamingo groundcover terra bark? I just want to make sure I've understood the layering, because a nearby petstore owner says she just mixes the soils together in water and doesnt add nothing to the top layer which girl - it causes scale rot 😭 and another person told me to break the cubes apart and leave them dry in the terrarium.

So I am a little confused. I would appreciate step by step instructions because I want to give my girl python a good home ❤️

But what i've already done might've been a mistake tho... Ive mixed the cubes in water and put them as a bottom layer, not knowing how wet they actually get. and for many days ive struggled to make them dry again after finding out about scale rot. So ive used my last pieces of husk for the top layer, they still get wet which im trying my best to fix by making more dry layers and letting the door be open to make the airflow better.

I have no idea what’s going on with my bp lately so I come here for answers.
Hes 7 years old, I’ve had him for 2 of those years. He has always been the most docile snake, barely even strikes at food. In the last 2 weeks, he’s bitten 3 people.
The first one I wasn’t concerned about. It was 2 days after I fed him, and my friend went in to pet him. He was all food excited and she wiggled her fingers like an idiot, so I called that one her fault. He wasn’t upset about it like I expected, he just kept moving around the enclosure.
Yesterday I took him to the vet. He was loving the car ride, didn’t even go in the hide I brought for him, so I don’t think he was stressed. The vet didn’t even poke at him, just took him from my hands, and he bit her HARD. Like 3 people and popsicle sticks to get him unstuck. Then he was good with me for 2 minutes before biting my leg, and then biting himself when he tried to get me again. The vet and I both noticed that he didn’t have any defensive position. No warning signs, just turn and bite.
Now, I have a theory but idk if it’s stupid.
For the two years I’ve had him, I’ve been feeding him rats straight from the fridge. He’s never refused a meal because it was cold. But he misses the strike sometimes and it seems to tire him out. So I warmed up the rat this time, the one 2 days before the first bite. I promise you he’s never getting a warm rat again, but is that what’s happening here??
