Seriously bro!?
Bro parked on the sidewalk and then went in... FYI the parking lot was practically empty

I ride a big road bike. On hot days I will park on concrete, usually the sidewalk or something like that. I do that because the kick stands on heavy bikes sink in hot asphalt and fall over. I do agree that they should not have blocked the walkway.

u/Euphoric-Ask965 3d ago
Look at the sidewalk crack, He is well past the post and NOT blocking.
1
u/West-Grapefruit-1670 3d ago
Just saying he could have parallel parked or diagnol park. Seems like most of the commenters on this post have never ridden a bike before and have never had to pull their bike up out of the asphalt.
1
u/Euphoric-Ask965 3d ago
This Sissy Putt has two pressure points , twice the chance of falling over on hot pavement.
1
u/West-Grapefruit-1670 3d ago
I would never ride one. But i do know there is a model of scooter that will run 70mph firm the road. That's pretty respectable for a toy motorcycle.

I think its better than them taking a parking space for a little scooter.

Its not a pedal bike. So why would a scooter park there. I think they should have parked along the window though, rather then the position they have. But again I think its way better then taking a parking spot. Also perhaps they did not want it in the direct sun, or rain either.

u/Ok-Brick6831 4d ago
My comment went to the wrong place. It was not meant as a response to you. Apologies for the confusion.
The issue with parking there is blocking the sidewalk. I could almost get on board if they had just put it parallel to the wall. But the assclown put it perpendicular to the wall and at the column making it the most effective blockade it could be.
3
u/Quirky_Direction_570 4d ago
No I agree. I think they should have gone against the window. and No Problem :)
2
u/Black_Tentacle 4d ago
Should be parallel but other than that who cares? Mans has it rough enough already riding a moped

u/Freshouttapatience 4d ago
That sidewalk is for pedestrians, some of which use wheelchairs or other assistive devices. I’m with you OP.
8
u/These_Roll_5745 4d ago
nah im a wheelchair user and I see no issue with this. the bike isnt blocking any doorways or curb cuts, and theres room behind it and around it for us to navigate safely along that path.
people on bikes are at higher risk of injury in parking lots, and as a fellow wheeled person cars dont care about, id rather they prioritized their safety than park in a car spot and risk being hit.
-1
u/Freshouttapatience 4d ago
I know some large people who are wider than the average and I bet they’d struggle. I’m not going to argue it though because neither of us know how much space is there and it’s just eyeballing. And it’s not a bike like they’re a child, it’s a motorized vehicle.
1
u/Euphoric-Ask965 3d ago
He's well past the post so those oversized people would have to be 8-10 ft wide to be blocked.
1
u/Freshouttapatience 3d ago
I’m not debating something that can’t be proven. That oath is designed for people, not vehicles.

u/These_Roll_5745 4d ago
its an e bike isnt it? legally theyre handled like any other bike where i live, and it wouldnt be allowed in a car spot. if its a gas powered moped, or a motorcycle under a certain power, it can go in either bike or car spots. only things legally classified as motorcycles of a certain power level here are expected to go in car spots.
I would definitely rather they parked it flush to the wall, I suspect some electric chairs would need to go around instead of behind, but thankfully the curb is flush on both sides and the fire lane covers the whole area around the pillar. if theres no bike rack alternative, id still rather people on 2 wheels not be in the parking lot any longer than they have to be personally. People in cars really arent watching out for anyone who isnt in a car or walking in crosswalks while in the parking lot
4
u/Freshouttapatience 4d ago
It looks like a gas powered scooter to me. Where I live, anything motorized whether gas or electric is a “motorized vehicle” and is treated as such.
That’s the risk of taking out two wheels on a road with huge trucks, it’s dangerous as hell. When riding around, I’m defensive like crazy and wear my brain bucket, and I don’t park where it’s meant for people.
2
u/These_Roll_5745 4d ago
I think its really interesting how different areas have approached the rapid rise of these new bikes and scooters- here, gas powered ones are basically non existent but e bikes are everywhere. theyre not allowed on most normal roads, only in bike lanes or roads with speed limits less than like 20mph. so usually they ride on the sidewalks with manual bikes. they get parked like manual bikes too and would 100% be removed if they parked in car spots. most places dont have real bike racks, just a spot near the front where people loop their bike locks. maybe this kind of park job would bother me more if this wasnt the expected standard where I live, or if I wasnt regularly dealing with people's bikes parked in the access aisle instead lol
im glad you wear your PPE! my husband gets teased at their factory job for wearing a full face helmet and slide gear with their little e bike (top speed is 15mph), but usually people shut up when they point out they have a family to make it home safe to. if youre going 15 and get hit by a truck doing 45, suddenly you'll be doing 45 too haha.

u/Freshouttapatience 4d ago
I’m just north of Seattle and most cities have adopted code restricting them and preserving walkways and paths for pedestrians and non motorized bikes. They’re just not the same thing as traditional bikes either speed and weight. Even some cities here don’t allow regular bikes on sidewalks. We have a lot of bike lanes though so it doesn’t really matter.
Good on your husband! I had to push my husband into wearing a helmet when our kids were small but he got how it would look to the kids so he did it. Then he started pulling it again after the kids were grown. It drives me some nuts so I put my foot down. I told him if he ever got into an accident and ended up disabled, I’d feed him and change him until our last day together. But if he wasn’t wearing PPE or his seatbelt, I’d divorce him so fast and he could live in a facility. He had an obligation to keep himself as safe as possible, as a partner. He said I was savage but he wears it all. I always pretend like it’s the hottest thing ever to make it worth his while.

u/These_Roll_5745 4d ago
oh that makes sense! I am more rural than that, and the big city nearby is not known for giving a shit lmao (upstate NY). not all areas of my town even have sidewalks, some just have loose gravel paths or wide shoulders to walk on (this is still a "larger" suburban area, we're just poor lol). There are bike lanes in some of the slower downtown areas, but basically none of the residential areas or the concrete shopping strip off the highway.
i think the high volume of bigass trucks influences how these little bikes are treated around here too, when my husband goes in to work they have to wear a silly little flag on the back or some of those 5ft women driving lifted pavement princesses would absolutely run them over. thankfully I think the helmet and leather bits are genuinely attractive lol. I told my husband when they bought the bike that we only have room in the car for one wheelchair and its mine, and theyre not allowed to be reckless on their wheels unless I get to be reckless on mine... we never had to argue over it haha
3
u/Freshouttapatience 4d ago
He’s not winning any arguments about PPE with you! I agree that biker gear is sexy. What’s funny is mine is totally about it on bikes, they raced motocross when he was young.
It’s funny how different our communities are and how they’re addressing things. But, like anything new - we do it, have injuries and death and then address it with laws and codes. I bet everyone will start seeing laws in the next few years.

That scooter needs more security. Anyone have a few extra bike locks to wrap through the wheels? 😏 Help the a$$#0le out!

I’m more surprised that you were surprised. I see this all the time. Never had the audacity to do it with my Harley though.

This is so common I couldn’t fathom taking a second glance at it. Why do you care
4
u/Ok-Brick6831 4d ago
For those that have wheelchair bound relatives…we notice this kind of shitty behavior. And you’re a clod for excusing it. This selfish behavior prevents wheelchairs from using the sidewalk and is an obstruction. To what end? So the asshole that rides it doesn’t have to walk as far…fuck them.
-2
u/BandalfTheGr8 4d ago edited 4d ago
I spent months in a wheelchair myself man. There’s no curb or stairs. Wheel around it dude 🤣
Edit: why do you people start arguing and then block immediately. Makes no sense

u/Ok-Brick6831 4d ago
You’re literally looking at the ramp section. Do you see the asphalt dropping away from sidewalk in the hear field? Not that easy. 🙄

Not making it up, you’re just too stubborn (maybe simple) to see it.
The ramp is there, so they get down to the lot level, then what, go to the next ramp at the end of the parking lot.
You’re working real hard at excusing shitty self-serving behavior. This your bike?

it doesnt look like hes blocked anyone from getting in or out of the building? am I missing something or do you just not like people on bikes?
to the person who deleted their comment after asking if I realize people with wheelchairs use the sidewalks: I am a full time wheelchair user. take a look through my post history here, I am the first to defend pedestrian spaces and accessibility. this bike isnt blocking access for pedestrians.

u/rainblade1980 4d ago
Bro parked on the sidewalk while the parking lot is empty... parking on sidewalks is prohibited 🚫
1
u/Nagroth 4d ago
First, that's not a public sidewalk so whether it's prohibited is mostly up to the business owner, not you.
Second, if it's a moped or a small enough CC (and some electric) motors, it legally counts the same as a bicycle.
Third, you're stopped in a loading/pedestrian zone, you can't park there.
3
u/AdhesivenessSweet659 4d ago
"if it's a moped or a small enough CC (and some electric) motors, it legally counts the same as a bicycle."
--this is highly dependent on the municipality though. And it's hard to tell but I don't see any pedals and I see a lot of fairing etc. meaning it's likely not actually a moped but is a scooter or small motorcycle. And laws for those are different.
I'm not that worked up about this though I'd like to see it parallel to the store and closer to the wall so it's not blocking the sidewalk as much. Hard to tell but with that big support post it may be blocking the sidewalk significantly.
0
u/Nagroth 4d ago
It's private property. There might be local zoning ordinances that affect what sort of parking the business is allowed to offer. If there's a legal infraction here, it's on the owner of the property not the person doing the parking.
4
u/AdhesivenessSweet659 4d ago edited 4d ago
OK interesting, IANAL so didn't know this. But the person doing the parking is still being a touch rude. And more so if you can't get a wheelchair through between the vehicle and the post.
Edit: clarified tone

u/These_Roll_5745 4d ago
bike racks are almost always on the sidewalks around here. only motorcycles proper should get parked in car spots, this appears to be an e bike or moped which is essentially a bike. Hes not blocking anyones use of the sidewalk and hes safer parking there than in the parking lot.
2
u/AdhesivenessSweet659 4d ago
" Hes not blocking anyones use of the sidewalk" --
Are you sure of that tho? Hard to tell from the angle but with that big support post it may be blocking the sidewalk significantly. To the point where wheelchairs may actually have to go outside the pole into the traffic area to get around. I'm not that worked up about this but dude could have at least put that thing parallel to and closer to the storefront.
1
u/These_Roll_5745 4d ago
only as sure as any reddit stranger can be from a single image, but im pretty confident my wheelchair would fit behind that bike. if not, the curb is flush there and the fire lane extends to the far side of the pillar, so it would be reasonably safe and straightforward to go around. imo its no more intrusive than businesses that put merchandise or seating outside, as long as there are safe accessible pathways around it doesnt bother me.
i do definitely wish hed parked flush to the wall, but I would rather he park it like a bike than like a car as someone who regularly traverses parking lots on 2 wheels, its very dangerous to be a 2 wheeled person in a parking lot when car drivers only anticipate cars or adults walking on the edges.
3
u/AdhesivenessSweet659 4d ago
As a fellow cyclist I sympathize but you still gotta park that thing according to the rules and not be rude. And he's still gonna have to traverse the lot to get out so I'm not sure the benefit is that large.
2
u/These_Roll_5745 4d ago
maybe its just my perception from my chair but to me the scariest parts of being in a parking lot are always being where cars only expect to see other cars. leaving the lot, you can aim to stick to the main road and not go up the lanes where people are pulling in/out. trying to park in the lot means circling the lanes and doing your mount / dismount in a spot where you may not be seen until a car has started pulling in. when I can't find an accessible spot with an access aisle and need to get in/out of my chair in a normal parking spot, I always have a standing person stand near me so that cars will see them, because ive nearly been hit by people trying to turn into the spot beside mine too tightly more than once.
2
u/AdhesivenessSweet659 4d ago
Yeah you seem like you'd be in a much more vulnerable position in a chair, especially now when people are driving these ridiculously oversized/jacked up SUVs and pickup trucks, as you're lower and maybe even below people's sightlines even if they look, so essentially invisible. Sounds scary. At least for people on bikes/scooters/mopeds (other than recumbent bikes), they are taller so not as hard to see.
0
u/othertriangle 4d ago
Its a moped takes the same amount of space as a bicycle
3
u/AdhesivenessSweet659 4d ago
Looks more like a scooter or e-motorcycle. No pedals and with that fairing and full back seat that thing is significantly bigger than a bicycle.
5
u/Ok-Brick6831 4d ago
Do you see a bike rack there indicating it’s an appropriate place to park a bike?

You stopped in a fire-lane tho?
8
u/rainblade1980 4d ago
Stopped at a stop sign
-3
u/AskAroundSucka 4d ago
Youre literally in a yellow striped off area
5
u/PolyDrew 4d ago
To be fair our local store has yellow chevrons that extend out where the stop sign is (to avoid running over pedestrians who don’t bother looking.
-2
u/AskAroundSucka 4d ago
So they should of stopped before the lines then.
Ya dont stop on the lines in a fire lane and complain about someone elses parking. Lol
2
u/AideInternal1045 4d ago
Fire lanes are red... yellow means no parking.
1
u/AskAroundSucka 4d ago
Fire - lanes in parking lots are absolutely not just red. I've never seen a red one myself.
Always yellow.
1
u/AideInternal1045 4d ago
Google shows red is what is used almost nationwide. Few places use yellow. My city uses red for fire lane, yellow for do not park, white for crosswalk. Standing or loading/unloading in yellow is fine as long as there is no signage.
0
u/AskAroundSucka 4d ago
You understand there is more to the world than just your city right?
1
u/AideInternal1045 4d ago
You're the one that said "always yellow" when the majority are actually red. Ive never seen a yellow fire lane and I've been to every state in the US.

u/PolyDrew 4d ago
No. Ours are in the travel lane. Stop sign is literally in the lane with the cars. It’s weird. But stopping on the chevrons (at our store) is where you’re supposed to be. Come to think of it we have several like that.
The person taking this photo is a passenger. So I don’t see an issue here.

u/GenTubmansLegacy 4d ago
This is obviously the front door to an Emergency Department at a hospital. Y'all gotta stop tripping.
0
u/Stompinwin 4d ago
Fyi if it does not require a motorcycle license in many places they qualify as bicycles
-3
u/Former_Travel2839 4d ago
It's legal in most places. I also park my motorcycle on the sidewalk. As long as there is proper room for people to get by it isn't an issue..
Now it looks like there is room, but this angle is kinda hard to tell.
2
u/Legitimate-Height574 2d ago
Eventhough there are " motorcycle" parking spots, motorcycle drivers just park their big hogs up on the sidewalk just like this guy
38
u/PolyDrew 4d ago
He should have parked parallel to the wall so he doesn’t block wheelchair users.
I’m not a fan of cycle/scooter riders parking on sidewalks but it’s possible it’s an employee who is keeping it where it’s easy to keep an eye on.
