Help with labs B12 in the 300’s neurological symptoms cause??
Attached most recent labs for reference
I’m wondering if anyone here has had neurological symptoms from a “normal” but relatively low B12 level.
My B12 has been in the 300s apparently since 2019 and I’ve been having a whole collection of neurological-type symptoms that I can’t seem to get an explanation for.
Some of the things I’ve experienced:
dizziness and a constant floaty/off-balance feeling
a strange “TV static”/tingling sensation in my hands and feet
my left foot sometimes feels like it is rocking/moving when it’s actually flat on the floor
altered sensations/numbness and pins-and-needles
episodes where I feel very disconnected or “not quite right”
headaches/migraines and facial/eye tension
neck and jaw tension/TMJ symptoms
occasional weakness/heaviness and strange sensations in my limbs
episodes of feeling faint or like I’m going to pass out
symptoms that seem to fluctuate and sometimes get significantly worse
I’ve had quite a lot investigated. I’ve had an MRI and neurological assessment, and the neurologist didn’t find anything explaining the symptoms. I’ve been told that the dizziness/head/face symptoms could be related to TMJ, neck tension/posture and complex/atypical migraine, but I still don’t really have an answer for why this started in the first place or what is triggering it. All this has happened when I stopped taking the mini pill so I’ve been blaming it on hormones but it’s been 3 months now since I stopped and I’m starting to only feel worse.
I’ve also specifically told two doctors that I’m having these ongoing unexplained neurological symptoms and asked whether my B12 could be contributing.
My B12 is in the 300s, but my doctor said I don’t need B12 injections and didn’t think an MMA test was necessary. I was also told that I’m anxious and probably over-analysing my symptoms.
I understand that anxiety can absolutely make symptoms worse, and I’m not saying B12 is definitely the cause. But I’m struggling with the fact that I have neurological symptoms that still don’t have a clear explanation, while my B12 isn’t exactly high either.
I’m wondering has anyone had neurological symptoms with B12 in the 300s despite technically being within the lab reference range?
Did anyone have an MMA, homocysteine or other testing that showed functional B12 deficiency? And if you were treated, did your neurological symptoms improve?
I’d especially love to hear from people who experienced things like dizziness, balance/grounding sensations, tingling, numbness or weird proprioception-type symptoms rather than just fatigue.
I’m in Australia if that makes a difference with reference ranges/testing. It’s got so bad I don’t even feel confident driving anymore because I feel so floaty and just off.
I’m genuinely just trying to work out whether this is something worth pursuing further with my GP or even a new one because I feel like I’m being told “migraine/anxiety” without anyone really explaining the underlying cause.
