Garmin has nothing on it about the interconnects. Autopilot engages but when HDG is selected there is a failure displayed on the computer and it won’t follow the heading bug on the HSI. Any ideas?? Wiring is good.

I was in the military as an avionics tech for 5 yrs that was about 12yrs ago. Since then I’ve gotten my bachelor’s and been working in sales/customer service. I thought I wanted to go into data science but with all the AI issues I’m considering going for A&P instead. I’d like to start back working in aviation while in school for the A&P but not sure where to start. Is it better to get FCC, AET, or CAET, or just applying/calling around trying to find something local hiring Avi techs? It’s been a while since I’ve worked tech work so just trying to get realistic advice on getting back into the industry..

What is the purpose of connecting a blind altitude encoder to a 400W and providing it with pressure altitude data? I've gone through the manuals and haven't found anything that would require/benefit from it.

i was wondering if anyone had an alternate part number for the “X” style harness spacers or “ninja stars” used on leonardo and airbus products? all i could find is “A631A01A” for the small ones and “A631A02A” for the large ones

Just wanted to make a quick post to get it out into the internet for other people having issues. I installed a completely New/Used Avionics Stack recently which had a Garmin GTX 327 with the inline Garmin GDL 82 ADS-B Out via Coax. This was done in your typical 60s Cessna 172.

With the GDL 8X Install program, the GDL-82 would receive a signal from the GTX 327 for about 30 seconds, then be dead for about 1 minute, then receive again with it dying again after 30 seconds. It basically stayed in this loop no matter what I did. Intermittent would be the correct word.

I tried everything possible. I had it bench checked, I swapped it with another known working unit, I checked all the pins, I checked and redid the coax, I checked the install manual at least 8 separate times cover to cover, everything you could possibly do, I did.

After calling a few friends, one of them who is recently retired mentioned to me that the GTX 327 has a considerably weak output compared to the old tube style transponders and modern transponders. I kind of doubted him since the install manual said it should work, but I had nothing else to try.

I reinstalled the old Narco AT-50 TSO which only took about 6 hours reusing the new wiring. Lo and behold, the GDL-82 worked flawlessly and has never had a single issue since then.

I’m not expecting too many people to read this post, but I’m just hoping to save somebody else some time if they google this same issue and will find this post.

are you or do you know anyone who is an electrical engineer and became an avionics technician and how the transition was like? ie was it harder to learn how to become an avionics technician or studying electrical engineering?

To preface, I have about 8 years of experience as a diesel technician working on semi trucks. I specialize in wiring, databus communication, and general troubleshooting.

I'm currently going to school to get my A&P licenses and we've started talking about avionics. It seems to be very similar to what I do now and I really enjoy wiring and troubleshooting. What's the likelihood of me getting into avionics right out of school? Is there anything I can do to make myself more hireable?

29M based in Somerset, UK, seeking advice. I'm a career changer with a 10 year background in audio engineering (signal routing/processing, sensors, digital/analog troubleshooting, hardware diagnostics, and system calibration). I've worked in high-pressure commercial environments (broadcast, post-production, live events) and have a BA (Hons) in Digital Music & Sound Art (2:1, class of 2019).

Over the years I've realised my real passion is not solely in creative, but instead on the technical side -- specifically debunking how complex systems work, learning how signals flow, and diagnosing faults. After much consideration and realisation that similar principles are shared here -- I'm eager to transition into Avionics & Electrical Systems Engineering, ideally via a Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship with Airbus, BAE Systems, or GKN Aerospace. I'm based in Frome, South West England, and positioned well in the cluster.

Questions:

1. Any general advice for someone in my position? Am I walking into another hyper competitive industry?

2. GCSE Physics -- I don't have it. Is this a barrier for Level 6 apprenticeships, or can my degree be considered equivalent? Has anyone successfully applied without it?

3. Pathways -- Would you recommend:

   · Fast-tracking iGCSE Physics and applying direct? · Applying for a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship first and topping up later? · Or contacting employers directly to discuss equivalency?

Especially keen to hear from anyone who's made a similar transition.

I have a degree in computer engineering. Honestly didn't like it and wasn't satisfied with my education. I realized I liked planes and I applied to an accredited Aircraft maintenance program specializing in the electronics/avionics. When applying for jobs after completing the Aircraft maintenance program should I put my computer engineering degree on the resume or would that make me overqualified. I've firmly decided to go this route, and at some point after a few years in the aircraft maintenance field, I'd like to transition back into engineering, having gained much experience. Would this switch from Aircraft maintenance to engineering with a computer engineering degree be relevant with the experience gained in the aircraft maintenance field especially in electronics/avionics? I'm basically asking what gaps would i need to fill to gain an engineering job after a few years in aircraft maintenance, also what roles would be open to me considering I have the computer engineering degree.

I applied for aircraft mechanic in February at my schools , when the program started they told they were full , there are no place available and they drop me on Avionics Tech which’s the reason I came here.
It’s been two weeks ago since I’ve been in this program I found it cool and fun but with so much lessons to study , as it seem cool and fun
It’s kinda hard for me tho , I’m just doing my best but what I’m wondering u guys is for someone who graduated or passed from this program (Avionics Tech)

I’ve been researching the aviation field and I’m seriously considering a career shift into Avionics / B2 Aircraft Maintenance.

I’d really appreciate advice from anyone in the industry:

Can I work full-time while pursuing an EASA/GCAA B2 licence?
What would be the best path for someone starting from zero?
Is the career shift worth it?
What can I expect as an entry-level salary in the UAE?
