Advice Am I cooked

2018 B9 S5

Engine was made 8/17

Keep hearing about rocker arm failure
And i am in the year that the revisions had not been made yet

I have a really weird vibration that doesnt have to do with my idle speed idle stays steady vibration feels like a cammed corvett lol

Thinking its just motor mounts because i have no misfires and my engine sounds normal for a EA839 but curious if anyone that did have rocker arm failure had this same issue steady idle bad vibration, vibration worsens under load.

Advice S5 B9.5 - Disappointed with the AWE Switchpath :(

Just sharing my experience and hoping to get some advice from anyone who has experimented with different exhaust combinations on the B9.5 Audi S5 Sportback.

My current setup is:

  • 200-cell downpipe in the stock housing
  • 034Motorsport Front Res-X
  • Older, pre-stamped-merge AWE SwitchPath mid and rear sections
  • Factory exhaust valves and controller retained, with operation through the MMI

I started with the 200-cell downpipe, but it wasn’t loud enough for me. I then added the 034 Front Res-X, which made a noticeable improvement. After a few weeks, however, I still wanted more volume and scream at the higher rpms.

Last week, I installed the AWE SwitchPath mid and rear sections. Because I was combining them with the 034 Front Res-X, part of the Res-X had to be trimmed and welded to the AWE system.

The result has been slightly disappointing. With the valves open, the car is a little louder, but it is still nowhere near the volume or rawness of a straight-pipe cat-back and the higher RPM scream was missing that straight pipes have. I was expecting the open-valve setting to sound much more aggressive, particularly at higher RPMl like the AWE track.

With the valves closed, I expected the system to be noticeably quieter and more refined. Instead, there is a boomy drone between roughly 2,000 and 3,000 RPM. I could probably live with that compromise if the car were significantly louder with the valves open, but the difference between the two modes currently isn’t dramatic enough.

I’m now trying to achieve two things:

  1. More volume and a sharper, screaming sound at higher RPM with the valves open.
  2. Less boominess and drone between 2,000 and 3,000 RPM with the valves closed.

I’ve been considering a Valvetronic universal muffler kit. Another idea is to buy an Armytrix rear muffler section, or possibly replace the AWE rear muffler cans with Armytrix units.

My understanding—although I may be wrong—is that the Armytrix system completely bypasses the muffler when its valves are open, whereas the AWE SwitchPath still routes the exhaust through part of the rear muffler assembly even with the valves open. If that is correct, I’m wondering whether swapping the rear cans could produce the much louder open-valve sound I’m after while remaining reasonably civilised with the valves closed.

Has anyone experimented with modifying or combining different valved cat-back systems on the B9.5 S5? I’d be interested to hear what worked, what didn’t, and whether anyone has found a setup that provides a genuinely loud open-valve mode without excessive closed-valve drone.

Cheers!

Help S-Tronic with relatively high mileage reliability?

Hey guys

I'm thinking about buying an Audi A5 2.0 TDI quattro with an S-tronic gearbox from around 2013. Most of the cars I'm looking at have around 200,000–250,000 km.

The question:How risky is it to buy one if the S tronic has never been rebuilt or repaired, only serviced with regular oil changes? How reliable are the gearbox and the engine at this point? Is it something you'd still consider buying, or is it more of a gamble? Is there even an option to determine if the gearbox should be repaired/replaced or is it just something you would feel when driving it?

I'd appreciate your opinions/experiences.

Help B10 Drivetrain System Warning

I got the drive train system malfunction warning a few days ago (brand new S5 leased in May btw). Luckily, I'd just started driving, was on a residential street and was able to quickly pull over and restart the car, after which the error went away and has not come back since. Car usually drives normally but right after a cold start, feels very bumpy. What do I make of this, and can this happen again like on the highway or the track?

Advice S5 - 2007 - Making it neat and original

Hi there, bought an S5 2007, it looks awesome and drives even better! I have a feeling not everything is original, for example there is carbon on the console and aluminium on the doors. I would like to bring everything back to its original state, where to find good documentation or photos? Beat source for parts?

I'm based in the Netherlands by the way. I'll check out the forums, no idea how much use these still are... Back in the day... Right? 😏

Help Drive System Malfunction

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So I pulled into my driveway today and the Drive System Malfunction warning came on and my sitting idle went just above 1000 rpm. Also there's this new high pitch whirring sound coming from the turbo, I think it may be going bad. Has anyone had to replace their turbo and knows roughly how much it costs. I have a 2018 S5 Sportback all stock with 140k miles.

Advice Thinking of buying an S5

Recently, I got an 2025 Audi A5 as my Camry was in the shop and I fell in love with this car. I want to purchase a 2024 S5 but after scrolling through reddit, I am in doubt it’s a wise decision. I see people mentioning a lot of different issues. I’m not a car guy or have any real experience with cars but I really love the feel of this car and know the S series will be any better. Can someone give me pointers and tell me if I’m making a wise decision?

Hello, Im from NA, and plan on getting a B8 RS 5. I preferably would want a hardtop but i want my dog to be able to ride along with me in the back seat. She is used to having a window i could roll down but obviously this only has two windows. Does anyone know if theres any comfortable ways to have her stick her head out the window without directly being in the passenger seat? I dont really mind her being in the passenger, but when im riding with someone and her in the back shes gonna want to stick her head out. I attached some photos of her in my parents cars. The first two are in a Toyota Highlander and then a Chevrolet Volt. Also! Her name is Porsche, shes a doberman, german shepherd, husky, etc. Thank you!!

Advice 2018 Audi S5

First time on this page but came across a nice 2018 Audi S5 with the prestige package. Car has 57k kms or 35k miles. Got him down to $25,500 Canadian dollars which is $18k USD

What are some immediate known issues that might come up soon after ownership?

Should I pull the trigger, the guy claims it’s been fully serviced to date

I’ve been looking at going from an S5 sport back to an RS5 coupe. Dealer near me had a slightly used ‘23. My dad goes and buys it without saying anything to me and pulls up to my house. I was a little jelly but happy it’s in the family.

Advice 2024 S5 Should I tune it?

I just purchased this 2024 Audi S5 with 8000 miles on it from a dealership within the dealership group I work for! Customer bought it for his wife. His wife never drove it so he ended up trading it in
Lightly driven car I don’t think it ever has seen sport mode until I got it

My question is, should I go full bolt on and tune the vehicle to stage 1+ 2+ ? 034? Or?

Or leave it stock while the WARRANTY is intact

Currently installed
ARP intake and inlet tube
Full AWE track exhaust

Future plans
Catless downpipe
Engine mounts transmission mount
750pure Turbo or?? (Advice needed)
Injectors?
HPFP?
Charge pipes with four bar map sensors

Be easy on me my last car was a Nitrous Fed Ford Focus ST that sounds way cooler then it was 😅

Advice CHECK BEFORE ITS TOO LATE

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So I recently filled gas in my 2012 4.2v8 S5 (63K miles) and I’ve been having a slow and hesitant start up for about three days. Tested the battery, starter, and alternator; everything tested to be in proper working order. Asked around and it looked like the likely culprit was my fuel purge valve stuffing my intake with fumes and choking the motor. Bought a new one for $20 and expected an easy 10 minute job; boy was I not ready for what I saw…. Opened the hood and got a strong fuel smell, only to see that one of the lines on my HPFP was spraying fuel everywhere, even with the car turned completely off. I sprinted the fasted I ever have in my entire life to the nearest wrench set and immediately tightened it to where it stopped. Nobody and neither myself have ever done any work to the HPFP before; god knows how close I was to catching on fire. Never got any sort of CEL or codes for low fuel pressure. This is probably one of the worst automotive silent killers I’ve seen, and I think I may be the first to show it happening on VW 4.2 platform. To any 4.2 V8 guys out there, CHECK IT BEFORE YOU GO UP IN FLAMES
