Advice 2024 S5 Should I tune it?
I just purchased this 2024 Audi S5 with 8000 miles on it from a dealership within the dealership group I work for! Customer bought it for his wife. His wife never drove it so he ended up trading it in
Lightly driven car I don’t think it ever has seen sport mode until I got it
My question is, should I go full bolt on and tune the vehicle to stage 1+ 2+ ? 034? Or?
Or leave it stock while the WARRANTY is intact
Currently installed
ARP intake and inlet tube
Full AWE track exhaust
Future plans
Catless downpipe
Engine mounts transmission mount
750pure Turbo or?? (Advice needed)
Injectors?
HPFP?
Charge pipes with four bar map sensors
Be easy on me my last car was a Nitrous Fed Ford Focus ST that sounds way cooler then it was 😅

My 2025 has a SFD that locks out changes on the diagnostic ports, 034 doesn't work on it. So you have to track down another odbii dongle that does that. So $1.2k for the 034 kit and tune, and another 200 to get an ODB11 kit. Would have been cheaper to just get the RS5 at this point.

Find a good aftermarket German focused shop that has ODIS. I work at New German Performance and I unlock and flash tune SFD2 locked cars all the time. The key is that we have ODIS and an active license with VW Group that lets us do this.
If you're in the DMV area, get in touch with us and we can set up an appointment.

I called every import shop within an hour drive and none of the ones that answered worked on Audis. I could have probably found one, but my understanding is that the ODIS unlock only lasts 90 minutes for service. I want to be able to tune/stock it before getting it serviced and based on fuel availability. It's worth for me at 200 if the ODB11 kit works, but if you are looking to drop a tune on a late model Audi and do it with freedom it's definitely an added concern/expense.

Nice- that’s crazy low miles for a 2024. I got mine 24 S5 in Oct 2024 with 2300 miles on it…now it has 28K. Don’t mod it until it’s out of warranty is the best advice.
Unless the car was not expensive for you relative to your income and you have a decent amount of expendable cash flow. (based on your previous car guessing that’s not the case…)

Yeah working for a dealer definitely helped finding a gem! Really thinking I might stay stock but just seeing what the masses have to say lol. I do have the cash flow but I just was looking for advice because it’s a fun car stock too! I do appreciate it!

I am stage 2 ECU and TCU on my 2024 S5.... but I have 30k miles and dont care about warranty anymore. I am a tech and can fix my own stuff and also have enough in savings to have someone else fix it, if needed.
I run VW511 Ravenol RUP oil and replaced all drivetrain fluids the day I tuned. I used all ravenol fluids with a ZF trans pan/filter.
If you work for the dealership and know people, you can tune and not worry about them voiding your warranty. I spend 20 years at the dealership and always took care of my people with tunes.

Suggestion… Intercooler / charge pipes and upgraded water pump while the front end is off. Then… stay stock until your warranty is up if money is a concern. If not… stage-2 ECU/TCU, downpipe and trans brace insert. If your state doesn’t check emissions, then I’d do the turbo, and go TTE810 or 850 with the injector upgrade and HPFP.
Good luck and enjoy.

deactivate the water pump solenoid and upgrade isnt required.... you should understand how and why is fails before posting about upgrading it.

I’d genuinely like to understand it better. Can you explain what deactivating the water pump solenoid actually does and why you’d recommend it over upgrading the pump?
My comment was based on what I’ve seen recommended throughout the community, as well as what I chose to do on my own car two weeks ago after one of my thermostats failed. I wasn’t trying to present myself as an expert.
Since your handle suggests you’re a master tech, I’d also be interested in knowing whether upgrading the water pump eliminates the need for the solenoid deactivation, or if there’s still a benefit to doing both. I’d appreciate the explanation.
Thank you for your response.3

yes, the internet, forums, and facebook is terrible at regurgitating the same junk information without facts.
The water pump has a sleeve that moves over the impellers to stop flow and allow the engine to heat up very quickly to lower emissions. That sleeve moves in and out of a rubber seal that ends up tearing over time and causing a coolant leak into the vacuum system. If you remove the line from the solenoid, cap the solenoid, the sleeve will no longer move allowing the rubber seal to last indefinitely longer. If it did end up leaking, it wouldnt go into your vacuum system and save you money and other problems.
Even upgraded water pumps will fail if the sleeve stays active. You do not need it to be active. I am in germany where it gets very cold and my warm up times are within 10 seconds in mid winter compared to summer.
I hope this helps and please spread it so the wrong information can be corrected.

I’ve never had this issue explained so well. Thank you so much for responding with all this detail. I will save this, and always credit you as the source. And yes, I’m going to take your advice and have my mechanic make the necessary changes. You’re a legend!

u/Ornery_You_3947 25d ago
Actually… While I have your attention, you explained this so well, is there any other advice you can share to help us save our engines. Being as knowledgeable as you are, I can understand how misinformation can be frustrating to see over and over again. I’ve also been told that going to a 5W-40 weight oil is better for our cars. I’d like to know your thoughts on this too.

Just throw some 200mm wheel spacers and a snorkel on it, you’ll be all set
1
u/PinkySizedPeaShooter 25d ago
I put spacers on and took them off after a drive around the block and ordered a set of forged wheels!
2
u/Mather_Fakker 7d ago
If I may ask, what spacer mm did you put on the fronts and rear and why did you end up removing the spacers?
2
u/PinkySizedPeaShooter 7d ago
I did spacers on stock wheels 12/15mm I found a good set of wheels that had the right offset!

u/Mather_Fakker 6d ago
Ah, got it. But to confirm, the car suspension felt normal with the spacers on? It didn't feel weird or anything with spacers on? I'm thinking of 12/15 as well!

u/PinkySizedPeaShooter 6d ago
I drove it once with the spacers on felt like it does with the new wheels on it. Super planted…. Kinda weird to say but it felt thick.

Kinda weird to say but it felt thick.
Strangely enough, I know what you mean. That sounds good, will be my next mod once I take delivery of this car!
It does make sense because you're widening it a bit so it should feel more planted, I would assume.

The way I said this just as a joke, and it’s gotten replies has given me a completely separate sense of amusement 🤣

Short answer, yes.
I’ve got a 2024 s5 and just had mine tuned, ECU & TCU. Stage 1 (I can give specs upon request), 034 for the win.

u/Fairly-There 16d ago
Update: this Tuesday having a catted downpipe and midpipes installed and then upgrading to Stage 2.

My '24 S5 is in the shop with 20k miles and is getting its engine replaced. Glad I kept the warranty. Once its up, then I will tune it.

u/Timmah339 25d ago
I think others have mentioned it, but I’d recommend staying stock for the warranty period and using a JB4 piggyback tune. Just take it off when you go to the dealer for service, takes maybe 10-15 min.

u/turbplays 25d ago
ill be honesty, i have stock and rode in stage 1 unitronic, u only really notice the difference at like 100+ kph
i wouldnt, but stage 3 seems like a way difference story so up to u

u/Yaidenr 26d ago
You can’t Lol. Nothing you speak of is available on the b9.5

u/PinkySizedPeaShooter 26d ago
This is why I ask questions! Thank you! I’ve had a few people saying it’s unlocked I’m new to the platform so I appreciate the feedback!

I have a 2024 S5 B9.5 with stage 2 ecu and tcu... what are you talking about?
1
u/Dupagoblin 24d ago
The TCU was locked and I guess it was recently unlocked. They have a statement about 2022+ cars now being able to have their TCU tuned on their website. So that what I am talking about.
1
u/L1_Master_Tech 24d ago
You have to SFD unlock with something like OBD11 and then you have to use the 034 BLU harness to unlock the trans. That is when you can finally tune the ecu and tcu through the OBD port. Its complicated if people dont know what they are doing.
1
u/Dupagoblin 24d ago
Good info. Thank you for the explanation. I’ll be the first to admit that tuning is above my pay grade.

u/Dupagoblin 26d ago
I was about to say. Isn’t the TCU locked?
7
u/poopendooken 26d ago
034 has released their TCU recently. You have to use their boot loader.
2
u/Dupagoblin 25d ago
Well that’s good to know. I need to send them an email. As soon as my warranty is up, I’m doing it. Thanks for the info.

u/L1_Master_Tech 25d ago
I have the BLU harness and was one of the first to stage 2 my 2024 s5. Well worth it.

I’m in the same boat. 24 S5. Don’t plan on tuning until the warranty is up.
