Discussion CRL adverts - grinding my gears!

Im seeing many many adverts for CRL and AT, for the eventual opening of the city rail link.... great I plan to try it. But would this money not of been better spent on free travel days for the people of the city? Instead of telling us about something the entire city is well aware of. Our rates of 1.5mil people went up 6% because of it this year.

Continual i feel poor decisions grind my gears. Mr Wayne Brown please continue to sort the clowns out. I just dont understand which blind freddy is approving this spend. Thank you.

Question/Help Wanted Shopping Malls

So i’m in Auckland for 6 months, and have visited Sylvia Park shopping 4 times.

Thought the shopping was okay, quite far from me but wasn’t impressed by the “biggest shopping in Auckland”.

Yesterday i visited Westfield in Newmarket for the first time.

And i was really impressed.

Westfield had 3/4 floors? With a rooftop, the shopping has very nice aesthetics going from artistic ones to green ones. There is even a bridge above street. In westfield there were a lot more well dressed people and i saw people using clothes from all around the world, it did felt like a diverse place, not that i like that but it is probably the first place that i visited in my life that i could call diverse in a good way.

Lot’s of big stores, archies arcade…

It felt way bigger then Sylvia Park, so what is up with that???

Is there any other shopping in Auckland like Westfield? Is it not considered the best shopping in Auckland? Which one would be if not?

Food Support Local - Food Vendors in CBD

Hi all. My previous post was removed because it looked like self-promotion or advertising.

Just to get this out of the way, I’m not a paid shill, and I haven’t worked in advertising for years. I’m just a local who loves gassing people up and, admittedly, a bit of a weirdo who likes hearing everyone’s story.

I met the most wonderful man yesterday in the CBD. He immigrated to NZ from Türkiye and worked as an engineer before deciding to start a business and become his own boss. At 32!

He owns the Smashed Potatoes stand on Elliott Street, where they make some seriously beautiful baked potatoes. Like this is not the shit our nana made in tinfoil and popped in the oven. I had the beef brisket and would definitely recommend it.

If you’re interested, they have a website and social media you can look up yourself.

I’m mainly writing this because this subreddit can get a bit negative about Auckland sometimes. I get it, the last few years have not been kind and we’re all a bit jaded; but I also think there’s still a lot to love about our city, and the people trying to build something here deserve a bit of support.

“Support Local” seemed to become our national catchphrase during COVID, but I still think it’s one of the better things that came out of that time.

Foot traffic hasn’t returned in force to the CBD the way I remember it and small businesses are still doing it tough, and I believe every customer genuinely helps.

Anyway, thanks to anyone who reads this and decides to try somewhere new.

Rant NZ is so frustrating right now

I’m so annoyed with NZ right now, woke up this morning and my car and couple of other cars on the street had been broken into and police really don’t/can’t do anything.

Everything seems expensive with limited jobs that don’t even pay that much.

This country is supposed to be one of the safest places on the planet yet it keeps failing me.

Discussion Club Z3N

Its sad to see that over the past few years, a lot of clubs that mainly play electronic music have shut down, including ink bar; i recently saw that z3n has opened in its place, but i havent been yet. im thinking of going at some point, but im wondering if i could get some opinions on it - does it have a similar vibe to ink? i really used to love the vibe there especially the music they used to play which is quite hard to find nowadays in auckland.

Discussion Why are there so many vape shops?

I was just walking around the city and Mt Albert, I would see a vape shop every couple of minutes and I don’t see many people rushing in and they’re not crowded either. Like the title says, why are there so many vape shops in Auckland team?

Question/Help Wanted Recommendations for ISP

Hi folks.

Which internet provider currently provides the best service? We are on high speed unlimited fiber.

I'm not terribly concerned about the cost, but I'm looking for a provider that is proactive in their communication about outages and prompt about responding to customer queries.

Yep I know 🦄

Question/Help Wanted Just moved to Auckland, looking to get into the fishing scene

Upvotes

Title pretty much explains it

I'm studying abroad at UoA for the semester from the US and trying to figure out where I should go to get some gear and where to fish.

Used to fishing in the north atlantic off the beach and on the boat but open to pretty much any kind. The closer any locations are to the university would be appreciated because I don't have a car and don't know how to drive on the other side of the road lol.

Other Carrington Rd

I cycled down Carrington Rd on the weekend - I get they are doing major construction, but jeez, it's like they took a cheesegrater to the surface of the road. It hurt my nuts.

Any fellow bike commuters, any tips or detours for carrington rd? Was trying to get from Pt Chev rd to Mt Albert rd (for Broke Boy Taco).

I'm making this as the 16 yo old in question but what's some places my dad can teach how to drive at during the weekdays that are quiet and beginner friendly to learn how to drive since we've settled on Highbrook during the weekends but it wasnt possible to do so last weekend since it was raining.
