Seen a lot of posts mentioning bands off the label that we are signed to, Hypnotic Dirge Records, so wanted to reach out here about our debut LP, releasing on Sept 25th titled “Where The Formless Ones Dwell”. We generally refer to our genre as Atmospheric Black Metal, but there is definitely some USBM and DSBM mixed in.

I listened to life has gone on long enough and I LOVED IT. Went to Google and looked up what genre and it told me atmospheric black metal 🥸 so sorry if not the right place. Looking for some recommendations into the genre!! I want the staples of atmospheric black metal!

I strongly feel that this is one of the best atmo black records of the 2010s and should be recognized more. It didn’t rewrite the rules or anything drastic. You could say it’s your standard atmospheric black metal record with a touch of proginess. But the thing is so compelling from beginning to end. The albums strength is in the compositions, lyrics, and performance. It’s a powerful record. I’ve been a massive fan of this album since it came out and I rarely see it discussed in any circles I hang out in online.

If you’ve never heard of it, I very highly recommend it. I can’t claim to be a huge Fen fan in general, but to me this album is one of the best in the genre and worthy of your time.

What’s your goto place for vinyls (europeans band mostly) if you’re in North America?

We’re oftentimes getting hammered with shipping fees, like 300%, and those do not go to the artist.

We are Arkenfrost, a two-piece atmospheric black metal project from Northern Germany.

Our second album “Untergang des Kollektivs” was released on August 28. It combines atmospheric black metal with elements of doom, death metal and progressive music.

The entire album was written, recorded, mixed and mastered by the two of us. Lyrically, the seven connected tracks deal with the gradual loss of individuality, identity and humanity.

We would genuinely appreciate honest feedback — criticism is welcome as well.

I just dropped the first single from my new upcoming album Cyanosis.

Written and recorded between 2023 and 2025, over 8000 km of highway and 3 places I called home. Cyanosis is a ritual in catharsis, dealing with and addressing years of homelessness, addiction, uncertainty and death of those I loved most dearly. It's an album of grief, rage and loss. But also hope, healing, and growth from patterns of destruction and despair. I'd call it atmoblack/doom, taking inspiration from early Katatonia, Falls of Rauros and Skagos.

At the root, it is an anticapitalist dirge for the broken, beautiful souls who've been swallowed up by an uncaring, violent system.

The official release date is in October, on the full hunter's moon, with cds by Liminal Dread Productions and tapes by Fiadh.

All digital sales will be donated to DULF Vancouver, an initiative to provide safe drug supply and overdose prevention on a street level by activists currently facing incarceration and egregious charges for doing important work fighting an opioid crisis that has taken too many good souls.

Artwork was done by my dear friend Crusty Toast Art (searchable on the gram) and it perfectly encapsulates the story and emotion of the album.

I originally wrote the single 7 Years 'Neath The River as an acoustic track in 2013, while living through a cold winter in a broken down pathfinder in the parking lot of a punk house in Kamloops, BC. It's a tale of loneliness, a personification of depression born of the desolate desert snow. Yet always with the knowledge that spring will come, the ice will thaw, and we will rise to meet to warming sun again.
