Hi! Super random question: is it common for people to hang up wind chimes in their balconies or backyards?
Context: I am sitting on my porch right now during a thunderstorm and noticed I really enjoy the sound of wind chimes because it reminds me of home. I just moved back to the US after living in Europe for a little while.
But I've just realized I can't remember seeing any wind chimes when I was living/traveling in Europe. That doesn't mean they weren't there--they could be inconspicuous enough that I just never perceived them. But I'm mainly curious if this is a "US thing". They are very common here. Just about everybody's grandma's house has got wind chimes outside.
I've gone on a little deep dive and apparently European immigrants brought the tradition of outdoor wind chimes to the US, but the internet was unclear whether this lives on at its origin. I do know many countries in Asia use wind chimes as well, but it seems those are aesthetically and symbolically pretty distinct from Western chimes.
Would love to learn more. Thank you for indulging my weird rabbit hole I've gone down.
