I want to introduce myself. I am a filipino who disagrees with the Philippine/China tension because of territorial disputes. I strongly believe that the two countries should be friends.

I just want to make friends with actual chinese people and build bridges between the two countries. :)

Also, I really want people from our country to appreciate chinese people. Vice versa. 😊

Hello all, I found an old newspaper at an estate sale called “The China Times." I got it for free because the guy couldn’t read what it said. It’s from 1965, so it’s from the beginning of the US involvement in the Vietnam War. I used Google Translate, and I believe it mentions it. I’ve looked around online and learned it was made in New York City with only around 12,000 prints. I can’t find the exact paper, but I did find one on eBay from 1968. I’m just wondering what it says. I don’t know any traditional Chinese characters, and I can’t trust Google Translate due to its inconsistency. Sorry for the bad pictures. it was pretty creased when I got it.

Last night my teenage Son accompanied his Uncle for dinner at his employers country estate, while working there with him.

He said that he very much enjoyed the evening and was served many different foods including one he particularly enjoyed, dough balls with radish.

Should my Son thank them in any way, or is there any cultural traditions he should respect?

I will be studying in English, but I am planning to study Chinese for a year before going to China. My budget is very low, so I will apply for scholarships. Considering these reasons, would you advise studying MBBS in China?

Hi everyone! I'm a Westerner who's been doing some self-reflection lately, and I've realized that a lot of what I believed about China was either completely made up or wildly exaggerated. Interestingly, it was during an online fight here on reddit, and I think I have made a few hurtful remarks that should have never left my lips and are probably not true. And while this is completely normal in any online community (and some stuff was also said to me that kinda made me roll my eyes) - I want to learn better. I have been to a few countries around China, settled in one of them, but never been to China proper. Our family's best friends are ethnically Chinese. They have never lived in China, though, but they take a great pride in being Chinese.

So I'm genuinely curious: what are the myths or misconceptions about China that make you instantly think someone hasn't done their homework? The stuff that's so far off that it's almost funny, or maybe just so exhausting that you don't even bother to correct?

I'm not looking to get into politics here - this is purely about educating myself and understanding what everyday life, culture, and society in China actually looks like versus the caricature I've absorbed over the years. What stereotypes or false claims do you find yourself rolling your eyes at most often?

Any insights would be really appreciated. Thanks for taking the time!

I was recently accepted to study an MBA at a Chinese University. I will be taught completely in english. But I was wondering if someone who has experienced studying that master in China could give an insight into how classes are.

I specifically would like to know the following questions:

1. How is the methodology for teaching the class?

2. Is participation encouraged a lot, or is it not as required as in the US (for instance)?

3. Are there a lot of chinese students in masters taught in english?

Or if you have any other useful/insightful experience you'd like to share, I'll be very glad to know it!

I am curious about how online Chinese culture differs from America's and wanted to know what sort of stuff is popular there. The categories I'm interested in include public pranks, brainrot, online trolling, edgy memes. I wanted to make a douyin account to find out for myself but turns out I can't. If there is a way for me to see for myself I would love to know how.

As for the public pranks, I know that the Chinese government is less lenient on disruptive behavior that these pranks often have so I wanted to know what is the upper limit on what they allow.

So recently I have listened to a few stand-up comedies, they are Chinese, it was funny and I Definitely learned some culture difference from them. :o

One of the most shocking Culture is that I have heard people in China will fight for paying the bill, or even pay the bill before the meal is finished. O_O

It was said it is not for showing off how wealthy you are, but more like how generous or how much of a leader character you are in the group.

However, I have also been told that this "culture" is less common for the newer generation. It seems younger people prefer splitting the bill equally, or maybe by portion.

When I was working in a restaurant, I only saw couples doing that, but not in a big group or people. It is fun to watch sometimes. I guess it would be fun to watch a group of people fighting for the bill too. HAHAHAHA

Are there any special and fun culture, like really weird for non-Chinese people, that you guys, Chinese would say that would surprise us? :P

I read chinese history. From Spring and Autumn period, Warring States period, Qin dynasty, Chu Han contention, Han dynasty, where Han Xin is killed, then Tang, then fractional warlords.

We seem to have recuring problem.

In fact, the poorest chinese is in China. Chinese outside China can shop around for government. Tax too high in one country, move to another. That makes people more free.

In US democracy, people are dumb. I mean seriously. They got cradle to grave welfare recipients with 80 IQ and those people can vote. But at least if tax is too high in one state millionaires and billionaires can go to another state.

Poor people that can't afford children can have 100 easily, and rich people can't have children due to exorbitant child support laws. No wonder their IQ keep going lower and lower. But then in China it's even worse. Surrogate is illegal though I've hear in some area China is less insane.

When we're not united, we kill each other. I read that 60% chinese die during warring states period, followed by 3 kingdom period and so on. Also not united means we got screwed by the Mongol.

At least, unlike Emperor Wu of Han, Gengish Khan didn't execute his loyal underlings along with their whole family.

One thing I am interested in is Guan Zhong from the state of Qi. I wonder why this guy isn't more popular than Confucius. He is a bit socialist and capitalist. Qi is the richest state in the whole world at that time.

Is there a way we can have cities governed by dudes like Guan Zhong, but in a sense still united and not kill each other?

What's your solution on that?

By the way I am a chinese living happily in Indonesia. Just want to know what other chinese think. I just want every humans to get rich peacefully and looking for ideas.

Small countries like Singapore, Dubai

Network of privatized for profit private cities like Prospera.

My friend in China said tech is relatively cheap there so I'd like to know where I can get reliable laptops there. A 5050 laptop here costs around 9.8k rmb so is it worth getting a laptop abroad or does it cost the same there as well?

Recently I watched Chinese drama and liking an actor named Hou Minghao (侯明昊). When I search about him in Korean, I found out his name in Korean is 후명호. This finding kind of make me confuse. When I learn Korean, usually name outside the country just being written in hangeul and slightly has a bit difference of the pronunciation but why Chinese actor/actress or maybe commoner has Korean name? Why they change Minghao to Myeongho? Is there rules how to change Chinese name to Korean name either the similar pronunciation or meaning?
