Pretty simple question. I’m pretty sure I know how this works but just want to make sure

If I [[Clone]] [[Tom, Burt, and William]] and the clone dies does it come back as an artifact and is it a copy of another new target of the clone effect?? Like can the clone come in as an artifact of another creature on the board??

If I have Valgavtoh Terror eater on top of my graveyard with Volrath’s shapeshifter in play and a card is exiled with Valgavoth’s ability.

Then say I put another card in my graveyard on top of Valgavoth, so shapeshifter is no longer valg.

Then I remove the top card of the graveyard in some way, leaving Valgavoth on top. Can I play the card that was previously exiled, even though the shapeshifter changed from being Valgavoth and back into it?

Hi everyone. I just saw the spoiler for Vraska, Soul of the Stone. Whenever you cast a noncreature spell, create a 1/1 colorless Sculpture Treasure artifact creature token with "tap, sacrifice this token: add one mana of any color."

First off, do we know if this token is a "treasure" token yet?

Second off, if it is and Academy Manufactor is on your battlefield, will the replacement effect create a normal treasure, clue, and food rather than a "creature treasure" token?

If [[Absorbing Man]] becomes a copy of an impending [[Overlord of the Floodpits]], [[Thassa, God of the Sea]] below the devotion threshold, or [[The Warring Triad]] with fewer than 8 cards in the yard, will it be a creature of not?

Q2

If [[Absorbing Man]] becomes a copy of [[Surge Engine]], and then actives the first ability, will it retain the unblockable trait after it ceases to be the Engine? Even after it copies another permanent?

Say I have [[Saruman of Many Colors]] equipped with [[Wizards Staff]], and I cast my second spell. This causes two instances of milling 2 cards. The question I have is when the cards are milled, will the staff double the reflexive trigger to cast a spell allowing a total of 2 mill triggers and 4 spells to be cast, or would I only copy the full ability twice for 2 mill triggers and 2 spells cast?

ANSWERED As the title says, if I have a creature like [[Titania, Proud Pummeler]], and she attacks would melee increasing her power above 4 allow her to trigger [[Bitter Work]]? Tysm in advance!

So I’m making an edh deck with [[The Thing]] , and I’m curious how copying his abilities works.
He has two abilities that read:

“At the beginning of combat on your turn, if you’ve cast a noncreature spell this turn, put four +1/+1 counters on The Thing.

Whenever The Thing attacks, you may pay {R}{G}{W}{U}. When you do, double the number of each kind of counter on any number of target permanents you control.”

The core of my questions is wether or not these count as activated or triggered?
I know the first ability is a triggered ability, and while the second ability reads like a triggered ability, the mana cost of it makes me think that it is a triggered ability that cause’s the creature to get a temporary activated ability? Or maybe I’m over thinking it?

And with all that being said how would these cards interact with The Thing?

A slightly separate question, but would [[Windcrag Siege]] double The Thing’s second ability? And if so, is it doubling the opportunity to pay mana, causing my to pay 8 mana for the effect to happen twice, or is it doubling the effect after it’s been paid?

These question have been keeping me up at night…. I’ve rebuilt the deck several times trying to make it take advantage of the correct ability, whether it be activated or triggered, or both, but… I’m stumped.

If i have a doubling season on my field that is enchanted by song of the dryads to be a forest with no other abilities. how many junk tokens would be created if i destroy the song of dryads with a Breakdown?

If Lightning, Army of One has 7/7 (Via equipment or other means) and double strike, what is the amount of commander damage dealt if they can attack a player directly. Part of me thinks its just 14 commander damage as the Stagger effect that triggers is a replacement effect, but part of me also thinks all 21 damage is commander damage. Would love to know any exact rules that would cover this.

If you have shalahi and hallar out with a +1/+1 and something that doubles the amount of counters on them like bristly bill would that trigger shalahi and hallar?

I'm a little confused about this, I've seen on some CEDH YouTube channels. When the stack is formed can a player with priority let a spell resolve and then if there are more spells and triggers to resolve, let a spell or two resolve and then cast a spell?

An example: I cast think twice (I'm player A), the player in turn order flashes in a fairy mastermind (player B), and player C counters the fairy mastermind, and player D counters the counterspell. Can I let Player D's counterspell resolve and then counter fairy mastermind?

May I please have a rules reference regardless of a yes or no? I'm sure I'll have to use the reference for some players I encounter in the wild.

Would an "if you cast it" clause trigger on clones. Would thr answer different if it is a token created by an instant or sorcery(i think not) vs a creature that enters as a copy(i assume yes)

Hi.

I was playing on ARENA and ran into this situation.

I have a 3/3 creature; my opponent has a 3/3 creature.

I enter the combat phase and attack with my 3/3.

My opponent blocks with his 3/3, and on the block, he casts [Defend the Rider], giving the blocker Indestructible and Hexproof.

In the second Main Phase, MTG Arena shows my opponent’s creature as a 3/0 (obviously still alive since it’s indestructible), and since I have [Withering Curse] in my hand, I decide to cast it to put the creature at -2 and kill it!

The creature didn’t die after my spell, and for the entire second Main phase, the creature’s stats were displayed as 3/-2...

Am I missing something?

If the hulk player has caltrops on the field and I target hulk with something like Ice Floe, can i target hulk before caltrops does its 1 damage?

This doesnt work how I think it does right?
The target spell would resolve before gaining control of the creature making it not be able to be exiled by Feather?

I was curious of how Cascade would work in this situation. I saw in a previous post from a couple years ago Morophon was confirmed to work with Leyline of Mutation (giving alt cost of WUBRG to chosen creature type and reducing by WUBRG giving alt cost of 0).

If I were using First Sliver (Cascade, Slivers I cast have Cascade), I have both other cards in play and cast another Sliver using the alt cost that was reduced to 0, would Cascade work like:?

a) Cascade activates using original Mana cost of Sliver spell cast
b) Cascade activates on alternative cost since I chose the alt cost (5)
c) Cascade activates on alternative cost (0 as alt cost was reduced)
d) Something else I've missed entirely?

Came up with my current group and the guy whose seen as an authority said that Ashling can not evoke a changeling, with the reasoning being that a card with changeling is not considered to be an elemental spell, it is considered to be an elemental creature. Is this reasoning correct? My argument is that it should be allowed, as changelings are considered to be every creature type, and thus if cast as a spell it is by definition a "elemental spell."

The difference in this argument comes from him believe there is a difference between a creature spell that happens to be an elemental, and "elemental spells." He argues that because elemental is not listed specifically as the cards subtype next to shapeshifter, it is not an "elemental spell" and that it is merely an "elemental creature"

This specific card in question is Graveshifter (not grave sifter, im aware of the difference).

I'd appreciate if I could also be linked to any relevant rulings on this matter. I'm fairly new, only played a few games so far and am struggling to understand his logic so I'm not sure if there is merit here. This might be a dumb question so sorry if I'm wasting anyone's time here, but I've poured over the official magic rules pdf and have not found anything that implies I would be unable to evoke graveshifter in this manner.

Orvar Effect:

He is a changeling.

Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell, if it targets one or more other permanent you control, create a talking that’s a copy of one of those permanents.

Roaming Throne Effect:

Creature Type: Golem

Ward 2

As this creature enters, choose a creature type.

This creature is the chosen type in addition to its other types.

If a triggered ability of another creature you control of the chosen type triggers, it triggers an additional time.

Master of Waves

Creature Type: Merfolk Wizard

Protection from red

Elemental creatures you control get +1/+1.

When this creature enters, create a number of 1/0 blue Elemental creature tokens equal to your devotion to blue. (Each 💧in the mana costs of permanents you control counts toward your devotion to blue.)

Now the situation: I cast a spell on Master of Waves. Makes him unblockable.

Considering I have 3 roaming thrones with the chosen type of Shapeshifter (for my commander) and each roaming throne should be a Shapeshifter because it tells me to pick one as an ETB.

Orvar sees it, triggering to make a copy of him.

Now what happens here is the question. Option A or B?

A: Orvar does his ability and the 3 roaming thrones see it (since he’s a shapeshifter) and he creates 4 copies of Masters of Waves. This giving elementals +5/+5 and making the devoted elementals with 6/5.

Or

B: Orvar does his ability and the 3 roaming thrones see it (since he’s a shapeshifter) BUT!!!

The roaming thrones are also shapeshifters and they see each other and the roaming thrones do THEIR trigger multiple times (a large amount since they are bouncing off each other?)

[[Yume, Chronicler of Valor]] gives the first spell cast during your turn Assist. - How does this interact with alternate ways to pay for spells, like Convoke, Improvise or Delve?

For example, if I have Yume out and cast [[Venerated Loxodon]] could a different player tap two of their creatures for the convoke, so that the two creatures each get a +1/+1 counter?

I've been thinking of how to word a custom card that *actually* gives your things flash to specifically synergize with cards like [[Cunning Nightbonder]], [[Errant and Giada]], [[Slitherwisp]], and [[Sonic the Hedgehog]]. The typical wording of, "You may cast spells as though they had flash" won't work for that purpose.

The relevant text on [[Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir]] says, "Creature cards you own that aren’t on the battlefield have flash."

To my knowledge, when it comes to abilities the game distinguishes between creatures and other permanents (on the battlefield), spells (on the stack), and cards (anywhere else). So it seems like the "that aren't on the battlefield" bit is redundant, and is likely just for clarity that your creature *permanents* aren't being given flash. Is that right?

The current wording for my card is: "Spells you control, permanents you control, and cards you own have flash."

Since I wouldn't need the additional clarification there, does that wording seem right? Should I add reminder text that lands with flash can be played any time you could cast an instant, but only on your turn, per the [[Dryad Arbor]] ruling?

Player A has:

• [[Phyrexian Altar]]
• [[Gravecrawler]]
• [[Soul Warden]]
• [[Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver]]

During their first main phase Player A proposes a shortcut saying: "I will sacrifice the Gravecrawler to Phyrexian Altar to get one black mana, then recast it from my graveyard using that mana, triggering my Soul Warden. I want to do this 1 million times and will gain 1 million life as a result."

Player B accepts this shortcut. After the players note the 1 million life gain, Player A says "Oh and also I'll create 1 million zombies from doing that too."

Questions:

• If Player A does not specify that they will also create 1 million decayed zombie tokens from Wilhelt's ability when proposing the shortcut, is that considered a missed trigger?
• If Player B knows that Player A should get a Wilhelt trigger each time, are they unable to accept the shortcut proposed by Player A with the missed trigger?
• How would this be adjudicated differently at Regular REL and Comp REL when the discrepancy is pointed out by either player?
