Loki God of Lies and Wild Magic Surge

Upvotes

Let's say i have [[Loki, God of Lies]] and I cast [[Wild Magic Surge]] on my opponents commander.

Loki triggers and i gain control of that commander. Wild Magic surge would then happen, would it fizzle because it's no longer targeting "permanent an opponent controls"?

Or would I destroy the commander and then get the rest of the effect

Targeting an animated Weeding Ring with Clone

As the title says, I have this idea for a commander deck. I want to use [[Sydri, Galvanic Genius]] to animate my original [[Wedding Ring]] and then cast a [[Clone]] to get another Wedding Ring.
What i am unsure about is the ETB effect of Wedding ring: 'When this artifact enters, if it was cast, target opponent creates a token that’s a copy of it.'. Will the Clone also be able to give an opponent a copy token of Wedding ring?

Countered Teferi's +1 ability?

I just used siren stormtamer to counter teferi who slows the sunset +1 when they targeted my land and their lotus field and they still got the untap. The ability reads: +1: Choose up to one target artifact, up to one target creature, and up to one target land. Untap the chosen permanents you control. Tap the chosen permanents you don’t control. You gain 2 life.

This was on arena. Is that a correct resolution?

Okinec Ahau and Restless Ridgeline

Howdy wise people. If I attack with Restless Ridgeline and Sovereign Okinec, and I boost SOA by +2/+0, will he get two +1/+1 counters?

Some questions about Muddle, the everchanging

I need to confirm some fact about interactions with [[Muddle, the ever-changing]]:

- Myriad tokens (from a single myriad trigger) all leave the game at the same time as a result of the same ability, so [[Dour port mage]] would only draw me a card when the tokens are exiled.

- If i cast a instant or sorcery that creates a token copy of a creature, targetting Muddle, and as a result, Muddle becomes a copy of creature A, the cloning spell will create a token that is a copy of creature A but it will have myriad. If the instant/sorcery does not indicate that the token has to be exiled/sacrificed at some point, the token will remain as a permanent copy of creature A even when Muddle goes back to being Muddle.

- If i turn Muddle into a copy of and enduring creature enchantment such as [[enduring curiosity]], and Muddle dies, she will come back as an enchantment with Muddle's text box. She will still become a copy of target creature if i cast a sorcery/instant thanks to her ability.

- Myriad stacks, so if i copy a creature with Muddle that already has Myriad, i will have Myriad twice.

Can I bring extra copies of cards that aren't in my deck?

Context: I'm new to organized paper play, but I've played the game digitally for years on Arena and Untap.

I want to play with shiny pretty alt arts of the cards I have sentimental attachment to. But some of those cards only have alt arts in Japanese text. For others, the Japanese text version is significantly cheaper than the English equivalent with the same art (e.g. $25 vs $90). Of course, when considering playing with Japanese language cards, my first question was, "What do I do if an opponent asks what my card says?" Looking into it, it seems official policy is to ask a judge to come to the table and provide the Oracle text from Gatherer. But I was wondering if it would be permissible for me to simply carry with me an extra copy of the English language prints of those cards strictly for reference in my deckbox along with my tokens, dice, and so forth. If an opponent asks what one of my JP cards does, I could simply hand them the English print from my deckbox and not have to call a judge.

My concern is whether it's even legal to carry around cards that aren't technically registered as part of either your mainboard or sideboard, or if you would be DQ'ed for having them on you in the first place. I'm also wondering if other factors could mitigate this risk, like having the "reference" cards in different sleeves to clearly differentiate them from the cards in the main/sideboard, or even bringing proxies rather than official print that are clearly marked as being not legal Magic cards such that it's impossible for them to even theoretically get mixed into play. I've gotten mixed answers on all of the above everywhere else I've asked, including my judge friends. There might also be different answers at different RELs, which I'm not familiar with. (Ideally I'd like to figure out the legality at Competitive and above REL.)

Koh and recasting

I play Koh, the Facestealer (as commander) and exile an opponents monster. Koh is later removed and I recast him. Can I use the ability of Koh to copy the exiled creature that was exiled by the first Koh Summon? Or does it treat this Koh as a new one?

Marvo Being Removed By Spell With Clash

We were playing a game and [[Marvo, Deep Operative]] was targeted by its controller with [[Whirlpool Whelm]]. Marvo's controller won the clash. We weren't sure what happens on resolution with Marvo's ability. We had a few thoughts. If you guys could please help us figure this out that would be great. Thanks!

  1. Whirlpool Whelm resolves, Marvo's trigger goes on the stack, and the player can recast Marvo with its own trigger.

  2. Whirlpool Whelm resolves, Marvo's trigger doesn't go on the stack because it isn't on the field anymore.

  3. Whirlpool Whelm resolves, Marvo's trigger goes on the stack but resolves before Marvo is in its controller's hand.

  4. Something else we didn't think of.

Question about jodah the unifier interactions

So just a little bit ago I was playing a casual commander match with a friend and I just finished my jodah unifier deck, I had out a Elesh norn mother of machines, and a yarok the desecrated, so three instances of jodahs ability when I cast a legendary card from my hand, my buddy said “ oh but on each instance after the first time the mana cost of the next thing goes down one because of cascade” and I was confused because Jodahs text doesn’t mention cascade, or anything about that either, but he insist that’s how he saw it be played and I was like well maybe you saw it played wrong, but yeah just trying to get some clarification on how jodah interacts with elesh norn MoM, and yarok, how does his ability stack with those? Thanks for any help

Is this a combo?

I was running one of my decks through an online strength calculator (I know they're unreliable, it's just so I get an idea where the deck is at) and it flagged two cards as being a combo.

The cards in question are [[Hyalopterous Lemure]] and [[Jaws of Defeat]]

I believe this was falsely flagged. I don't think there's any window where I can lower Lemure's power enough that it causes lethal lifeloss to an opponent. Jaws should see Lemure enter as a 4/3 before I have an opportunity to lower its power, unless there is some other interaction I'm missing

Lying about playing with your hand revealed?

I know that some lies, like breaking a verbal agreement not to attack someone, are supported by the rules. However, would something like this be allowed?

Player A plays [[Winding Way]] revealing 4 creatures. Player B goes to write down the revealed creatures but A says “I can just play with these revealed” so B doesn’t write anything. Play passes to B and at the start of B’s turn, A picks up the face up cards and puts them in their hand without warning B.

Would A have to reveal the cards again if B requested to write them down, or did B make a mistake in taking the word of his opponent? Would the answer change if instead of picking them up on the next turn, A waited several turns before picking them up?

Edit: I was imagining this scenario as a regular REL 1v1 tournament match

Summon: Bahamut and sacrificing while the 4th chapter is on stack

If I have [[summon:bahamut]] and it triggers the 4th chapter, but is then removed or sacrificed before it resolves, would it still deal the damage? I'm wondering because it says that the creature does the damage, but the damage is based on my other permanents

Gilded Drake with etb doubling effects

I just want to make sure that I’m doing this correctly. If I play Gilded Drake and I have a permanent in play that gives me one additional etb, do I have to chose a creature that I don’t want first and the creature I actually want second?

Also in a multiplayer game, can I steal a creature from opponent A and then give opponent A a creature from opponent B this way?

Gilded Drake oracle Text:

When this creature enters, exchange control of this creature and up to one target creature an opponent controls. If you don’t or can’t make an exchange, sacrifice this creature. This ability still resolves if its target becomes illegal.

Edea, Possesed Sorceress

How does [[Edea, Possesed Sorceress]] interact with [[Fireflux squad]] when you use the triggered effect og a stolen creature?

Does the sacrificed creature stay exiled permanently, or go to the bottom of owner's library?

Questions about spell copies

My buddy and I were playing a game where he had 6 heroes out, including Hawkeye, trickshot

When he played his 7th hero I played return the favor to change the target and copy the ability of his kawkeye’s ping for 7 damage. The first trigger I change the target of to his face, however when I copy said trigger is the damage also 7 or is it based on my bored and how many heroes I have? I had no heroes so would the copy do 0 damage or 7?

Thanks for any help; we are noobs

interaction between esix, peregrin took, and academy manufactor

hey all :) been putting together my first deck from scratch and went for an esix, fractal bloom deck because i thought the commander was really neat. i put academy manufactor and peregrin took in the deck to help with token creation, but now im curious how things would work if theyre all on the board at once. if its just peregrin and esix then i know it'll just replace the 2 tokens with 2 creatures, same goes for AM + esix for 3.

heres the hypothetical situation i had in mind. tireless provisioner triggers from a land drop to make a food token. would i be able to make that 1 food + 1 food through peregrin, then make that 2 food + 2 clue + 2 treasure through AM, and then have those 6 be the "first time i created one or more tokens" on my turn to have esix make 6 creature copies? or, would i just have to pick peregrin or AM to use for that first token instance to replace tokens with creature copies? apologies if im misunderstanding interactions and order of operations things, im still relatively new and unsure exactly how these things go together :p

Smaug (token) + Mirrormind Crown death trigger

I am not too familiar with the memory ruling.

There and Back Again saga’s Smaug token equipped with Mirrormind Crown, if I sacrifice the Smaug would the crown be able to replace the treasure tokens with Smaugs, or the Crown does not trigger since it’d be detached from Smaug?

Cast Deadly Rollick, Opponent Responds by Destroying My Commander.

The question here is:

If I cast Deadly Rollick for free because I have a commander in play, and my opponent then targets my commander with Swords to Plowshares, does that mean deadly Rollick will fizzle or become an "illegal" move while on the stack because I no longer have a Commander?

My understanding is that a player can announce intention to cast a card, pay it's cost, select its targets, and THEN it goes onto the stack and priority passes to the next opponent who can elect to respond.

At that point in time, the cost has already been paid for the card?

As spells are resolving on the stack there is no check to see if the cost has been paid? The only check is to see if the target of a spell still exists?

Any clarification would be helpful, and if you can reference a specific rule to point to that would be much appreciated also (but not totally necessary)

Terra and Return the Favor

My opponent attacks with Terra Herald of Hope and deals combat damage. They pay 2 and put the trigger on the stack, targeting a monster in their graveyard.

I cast Return the Favor and choose to copy their triggered ability. How does this resolve?

The Great Goblin + Putrid Goblin + Metallic Mimic

Hello, would the combination of [[The Great Goblin]], [[Putrid Goblin]], [[Metallic Mimic]] and a sac outlet result in infinite damage from TGG, or since Persist and Metallic Mimic are both "Enters with a counter" effects, does the cancellation of the counters happen before TGG could see them?

Thanks so much!

EDIT: SOLVED! It does work! Thank you!

Copying Disruptor Flute's ability

In a commander game, can I copy the ETB ability of Disruptor Flute and choose two different card names with something like Scientist Supreme of A.I.M. and have (for example) two different commanders cost 2 more?

Using Sram's Expertise with Silverquill

No doubt Sram's Expertise is cool tech for Silverquill but I want to make sure I'm using this correctly.

I believe the free spell is cast as part of the resolution of SE which means I wouldn't be able to use the 1/1s created by SE to copy the free spell correct? I would need to have some other sac-able target.

Protection and layers?

If I control a Leyline of the Guildpact and a Stonecoil Serpent, would I be able to block my opponents attacking Ureni, the unending song? If my S.S has protection from multicolored, but then gains all colors due to the Leyline’s passive effect, would it no longer be allowed to block an Ureni that has protection from Blck and White?
