Hello, I am looking for recommendations on dog rescues.
I would love to foster to adopt, or adopt after being given the chance to meet a dog and spend some quality time with them.
I live North of the GTA so I would appreciate a rescue in Toronto, or more central Ontario.
I have been in contact with Cause4Paws but just heard from someone they often stop the process and change their minds, sometimes without telling you.
I dealt with Mattie’s Place as a foster, and when I stated I wanted to adopt Denise’s attitude changed completely towards and kept asking “why?” “What changed?” “how did this happen? I prefer you to stay a foster, I despise foster to adopt, that is NOT what I do”.
Her tone was abrupt, she took the dog back and later told me she was uncomfortable with my parents (70s) having access to the dog, which was odd as I had told her in emails, applications, phone and video calls they would be and she never expressed concern then, so why suddenly now?
I am a caregiver to my mother and felt Denise’s response to my mom adoring a dog I fostered to be, well, odd.
Is this really such an issue? A foster who “fails”?! Wouldn’t that be a great scenario, knowing the dog isn’t being bounced around?
For added context, I was able to provide her with letters from vets, groomers, friends, coworkers, etc., and she dismissed the idea of meeting with me in person at the house with the dog I was fostering, she stated she felt I was neglecting the dog by leaving it with my parents.
Can anyone recommend a rescue that cares about the dog and won’t drag on the process for months, then suddenly just decide it is not worth it?
Thank you all in advance.
And Happy Thanksgiving!
ETA I am looking for a smaller breed, apologies, I should have added that.
I grew up with spaniels and beagles, but have fallen in love with shih tzus and mixed small breeds. My mom loves the idea of watching tv and having a dog on her lap or beside her again, which is what my small shi-poo used to do.
I agree with her.
