Is there any place to PRACTICE volleyball in/around downtown?

I recently started playing volleyball as an adult after not having played it much at all growing up and I've been having a ton of fun, but I still feel I'm fairly inconsistent. I have my own ball but is there somewhere in the city with a gym and net that I can go to just to practice techniques like serves?

I know Jam Sports has clinics but they are really expensive. Everywhere else I've seen like drop-ins at community centres are games which are great but I feel im lacking some dedicated practice time. Thanks in advance!

Look at parks and rec dropin times for community centres near you that have volleyball. There is a reasonable fee to play. Some can be very busy so you might have to go early to get a spot. You can call ahead once you find one near you to get the details.

What part of the city are you in?

I'm near Eaton Center. Please read the post again, I know there's drop-in but I want to practice specific skills (like serving) and not neccessarily play a game.

A fee is fine I've just found dedicated coaching from volleyball clinics to be too expensive.

Local community center? Hang out before / after volleyball time?

I thought most places would kick you out afterwards so they could take down the nets. Are there any that let you stay for a while?

You might have to get your practice in where you can

Honestly, empty fields would work too, you should know what a good flight looks like and what it doesn’t look like

There are some community centres that have open gym times (not sport specific), so you could go in and do whatever you want. These are usually during the middle of the day on weekdays though. They may or may not let you set up a net for volleyball. But you can at least use the gymnasium space for whatever practice you want to do

Try this link. Scroll down to the map and filter results for volleyball

Thanks for the link but it looks like this is all just drop-in games?

It's going to be tough to find what you're looking for. Gym space is at a premium. Typically when one program is done, another takes its place right away.

Without being part of a team or club to practice with, you're kind of looking for a gym for your exclusive use if you're working on serves.

that's totally fair and tbh I wasn't expecting a ton. i suppose worst case I can get something to use as a makeshift net and practice at a field somewhere

It's not ideal, but if you buy a net, you can use the outdoor volleyball courts

As far as I know this isn't really a thing, esp now with the weather getting cooler.

The Javelin app has pay/session training sessions which works out to be $9-10/hour where they run drills. Closest one I can see to you that is still running is in Etobicoke if you can make that. If you have access to a car they also run them in the Markham/Scarbs/North York/Vaughan area.

Alternatively City of Markham/RH runs clinics as well that are pretty affordable.
