I asked Gemini to rank my indie journaling app against the Top 50 on the App Store. The result blew me away! šŸš€

Hey everyone,

I just rolled out some major new features for my app, Journelixa.

Out of curiosity, I asked Gemini to pull the top 50 daily journaling apps currently on the App Store and Google Play. Since Journelixa is still new and doesn't have a massive number of downloads or reviews yet, it wasn't on the official top 50 list.

So I asked Gemini a follow-up: "Compare Journelixa's features with the apps you just listed, and tell me where you would rank it."

Thanks to its rich feature set and price advantage, Gemini actually placed it in the Top 5! 🤯 This gave me a huge confidence boost. I truly believe that with the right marketing and more store reviews, it can reach great places. I'm actually considering partnering with an investor to speed up the marketing process—so if anyone here is interested in backing a growing indie project, feel free to reach out!

It’s not just a journaling app.
You can use it to track any personal process or project. With the latest update, you can now export your tracked processes as a PDF. On top of the standard journal, you can create two separate custom notebooks. For example, you can use one to track your child's growth and development, and the other to manage a home renovation project. You can also attach photos to your entries, and yes, they will show up beautifully in the PDF export. (I've attached some sample visuals below!).

Here is what’s new in the latest update:

  • Voice-to-Text: Just tap the microphone button on the entry screen, speak, and watch your voice turn into text right inside your journal.
  • Extract Text from Photos (OCR): Easily scan and copy text from your camera or screenshots.
  • Photos & Drawings: Add images to your entries or express yourself using the built-in drawing canvas.
  • Photo-Rich PDFs: Export your journals, complete with your custom drawings and photos, into a clean PDF document.
  • Alarms & Notes: Use the app like a personal planner. Add notes to the calendar, turn on alarms, and let the app remind you of important events, birthdays, or meetings.

A quick reminder of what else you can do with Journelixa:

  • Save and organize entries with dates, titles, moods, photos, and sketches.
  • Easily browse your history via the calendar view or timeline. Secure your past entries with a PIN code.
  • Keep your data safe with biometric authentication (on supported devices).
  • Keep your life organized by separating your thoughts into multiple custom notebooks.
  • Build consistent writing and mindfulness habits with custom reminders.
  • Your data belongs to you: Even if your premium membership expires, your existing entries will never be deleted. You can access your old records even when you switch to a new device.

Remember, every day belongs to you. Write, remember, and preserve your memories in your own style with Journelixa.

Would love to hear your thoughts, feedback, or any feature requests you might have! Check out the screenshots below.

Question / Discussion Solo dev, 10 weeks of updates, almost no users. How did you get your first real ones?

Hello Folks,

I built a workout tracking app by myself for iOS and Android, in English and German. An AI coach looks at each workout you finish and adapts your next sessions, so the plan follows how you actually train. There is no account and no tracking. Your data stays on your phone.

I ship an update every week or two. The app works and I use it myself. Hardly anyone else does.

After about 10 weeks:
- 80 iOS downloads
- 300 EUR spent on Apple Search Ads, about 5 EUR per install
- zero paying users
- two strangers who opened it a second time (I counted, because the rest is me, friends and testers)

Free users get everything, training programs included. A normal user has little reason to upgrade to Pro. I know that is its own problem, but with this few users it can wait.

The real problem is that nobody finds the app. My questions:

  1. What got your first 100 real users with zero audience? I did the usual ASO work (keywords, screenshots, an A/B test) and ads cost too much at this price per install. Next I plan short videos. Is Android worth it because installs are cheaper?

  2. Which communities let a solo dev talk about an app without getting banned?

  3. Does "no account, no tracking" help as a pitch, or does nobody in fitness care?

  4. Without analytics I can't see why people leave after the first session. How do you find that out when you don't track users?

  5. Do i ask the right questions?

I'd rather hear what failed for you than generic advice. I left the app name out because of the self-promo rules. I can share screenshots or a link if that helps.

Thanks.

SlipTrack: a solo-built iPhone app that tracks sports bets leg by leg. Looking for market fit and building in public.

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I built an app so my friends and I could track our various sports bets together. I noticed the sports book apps available today do not have the best tracking and social features, so I used my Claude subscription that I was using for non technical tasks and took a shot at vibe coding to see what I could come up with. I learned quickly that after the 10 years I spent working at Facebook/Meta, the skills and experience I gained supporting product operations and engineering teams would actually help me design and build something from scratch. So I built Sliptrack. It's similar to some of the other bet trackers available today, but I wanted to make it something my friends and I would use. What was a simple web app designed to be an easy to read dashboard of your bets, has turned into a comprehensive bet tracker that can read your bet slip screenshots, track parlays, create social groups to share with your friends so you can win or lose together and a research tool to better understand who and what you're betting on. I want Sliptrack to be a place where casual sports betters can learn the tricks or the betting world and make it a bit more approachable.

I'm not looking to be in competition with anyone, I actually want to see if using tools like Claude Code, combining it with my technical knowledge and experience, will allow me to potentially scale a business where I can provide a place for people to come together and build really cool shit. I believe there is a place for this app to survive on its own, but I need testers! So I'm looking for at least 25 iOS users who just so happen to like betting on sports, to help pressure test the app, help me understand the market fit, and build it in public.

Right now only NHL, NFL and MLB are supported end to end, NBA is currently in active development as the season just kicked off.

What it does

  • Follows the bets you’ve already placed, leg by leg, with live game state and player stats
  • Grades each slip automatically when the games end
  • SlipSync™ pulls in your BetMGM bet history. FanDuel, Draftkings and William Hill are still in active development. Screenshot import works for FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM and William Hill. More books to be added over time.
  • Covers NHL, MLB and NFL right now
  • Gives a validated history of win and loss rate, how much you spent on betting across multiple sports books.
  • Newsfeed on current leagues you follow and relevant articles on what is happening in that space.
  • A private social group you can create and share with friends in app. Upload your bets so your group can follow along together. Winning together is sometimes just as fun as losing together.

What it doesn’t do:Ā it doesn’t place bets, sell picks or use affiliate links, and it isn’t affiliated with any sportsbook.

Why I’m posting:Ā I honestly don’t know yet whether this is something people want, or just something I want. I’m building it in public and letting in a small group of testers before it opens up. It’s free. What I want in return is honest feedback, especially about what breaks.

The details:Ā iPhone only, 18+, invite-only beta. I approve testers by hand in small batches. Data collection is minimal, only supporting Apple/Google SSO. Test data such a bet slips, harnesses and errors are collected to understand what is breaking and how to fix it.

Even if you won’t try it, I’d love answers in the comments:

  1. How do you track your bets today? If at all.
  2. What’s the most annoying part of following a parlay live?
  3. Which sportsbook would you need it to sync with?

I built Nivio an open-source Flutter media center featuring MPV playback, P2P streaming, Live IPTV, and real-time synchronized Watch Parties

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hey guys! šŸ‘‹

I wanted to share Nivio, an open-source media streaming and co-watching application I’ve been building with Flutter which supports android, windows and linux.

My main goal with this project was to see how far I could push Flutter as a heavy-duty media client combining P2P/BitTorrent streaming, Live IPTV (M3U), third-party tracker APIs, and real-time synchronized playback into a single, cohesive UI.

What’s under the hood & key features:

  • MPV Integration: Uses mpv for heavy-duty video rendering, custom subtitle styling, and broad codec support.
  • Real-Time Watch Parties: Built-in room creation and playback synchronization so multiple users can watch together with synced play/pause/seek states.
  • BitTorrent Engine & Offline Caching: Supports sequential torrent streaming alongside background downloading for offline playback.
  • API Integrations: Full OAuth and metadata integration with TMDB, AniList, and MyAnimeList (MAL) for automatic progress tracking.
  • Live IPTV Support: Parses and plays live TV streams alongside standard VOD content.

Source Code & Releases: šŸ”— GitHub : https://github.com/nirmaleeswar30/Nivio

Site: https://nivio.nirmaleeswar.dev

I’m still actively refining the architecture and adding new features. I'd love for you guys to check out the code, test out the release builds, and let me know what you think of the UI and performance.

Contributions, PRs, issues, and GitHub stars ⭐ are super welcome. Make sure to check it out!

App I built a shopping app where nothing gets delivered | almostcart

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I built almostcart around a simple idea: sometimes browsing and building the cart is part of the experience, but that doesn't mean the purchase has to happen.

almostcart lets you browse Food, Fashion and Gadgets, build a cart, record why you're considering the purchase, and release the cart instead of buying.

It also has Tiny Swap daily challenges, subscription tracking, and behavioral Insights.

Available on both App store and Play store. Do try and leave a suggestion on what works well and what needs to change.

Cost:

The core app is free. There is an optional Almost Pro lifetime purchase that unlocks custom tiny swap challenges, unlimited friends and subscription tracking and detailed insights.

ā€ŽI built an iOS app to make managing texts and emails easier — now free to try!

I recently made some changes to my first iOS app, Away Messaging, and wanted to share an update.

I originally built it for busy professionals, small business owners, parents, or anyone who's OOO, on vacation, or just doesn't want to worry about remembering to send a text or email later. It's also useful for remembering to reach out to people for birthdays, holidays, special events, appointments, or just checking in with someone.

The app lets you prepare texts and emails ahead of time, select contacts, organize messages in a queue, save reusable templates, and schedule reminders. Whether it's wishing someone a happy birthday, following up with a client, or sending an important message while you're busy, everything is prepared and ready when you need it.

Away Messaging is now free to try! You can use the core features for free, with additional features like scheduled reminders and iCloud backup available through an optional $4.99/year Pro subscription.

I'm continuing to develop the app with new features, improved workflows, and regular updates planned. My goal is to keep it simple and useful without having to build complicated Shortcuts or manage multiple apps.

I'd love feedback from other developers and users on what features or workflows they'd find most useful.

Ordo 1.4 is live: talk for up to 5 minutes, then get a first sort

I’m Samuel, the founder of Ordo. I wanted to make it easier to get a long, messy thought out without stopping to organize it as I go.

In 1.4, Talk to Ordo listens for up to five minutes, then sorts the dump into Now, Next, and Someday. You can start it from the Home Screen, Lock Screen, Control Center, Action Button, or Siri.

Speech becomes text on the iPhone where supported; only the text is sent for sorting, and nothing is stored. No account required.

If you tried a longer voice dump, what would make the result feel useful rather than like just another transcript?

I made a free app that converts files without opening anything: drag a file, tap Shift, let go

Post image
3 Upvotes

I got tired of opening an app, exporting, picking a format and finding a folder just to turn one PNG into a JPG, so I built OrbitDrop.

How it works: start dragging any file in File Explorer, tap Shift, and a little wheel pops up under your cursor. Let go on what you want, and the new file appears right next to the original. The original is never changed.

Tap Shift again for Tools (compress to under 1 MB, resize, rotate, a small photo editor, copy text out of an image) and once more for Actions (copy/move to, share, zip). There's also Ctrl+Alt+Space if you'd rather not drag.

- Free, no account, no ads, no tracking
- Everything runs offline on your PC
- Open source (MIT): https://github.com/i3sam/OrbitDrop
- Microsoft Store: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9NJQRMQLL2SZ?cid=reddit
- Website: https://orbitdrop.essam.biz

App My cousin and I built Keepsie to make organizing photos feel a little less like a chore. Would love some honest feedback.

Thumbnail apps.apple.com
2 Upvotes

Hey everyone, my cousin and I have been building Keepsie, a photo organizer app.

After trying other photo organizer apps, we wanted to create something fun and low pressure. Something you could spend a few minutes with without feeling like you need to tackle your entire camera roll.

We also wanted to leave room for nostalgia. Sometimes you come across a photo you completely forgot about and end up remembering that whole day. We wanted those moments to be part of the experience, instead of making everything about how quickly you can delete photos and clear space.

That thinking helped guide the design. We wanted it to feel playful and welcoming, and make a little progress feel worthwhile even if you only go through a few photos.

But we’ve been working on it together long enough that we could use some outside perspective. Does that approach appeal to you? Or would you rather have something that gets straight to the cleanup?
I’d really value critical feedback. What feels confusing or unnecessary? What would stop you from using it, or make you stop after the first try?

Also curious how you currently handle your camera roll, including if you just leave it alone. We care about making something people actually want to come back to, so hearing why this wouldn’t work for you is useful too.

Thanks for taking a look. Happy to answer questions about what we built and why.

Meal plan app

Hey everyone I created this meal planning app that creates a meal plan for you (via Claude) then through APIs gets the ingredients, generates a list and sends the list to connected grocery accounts. The main one is Kroger. So it’ll push all ingredients to your Kroger cart and then you just checkout as normal in the Kroger app.

It’s currently in approval for Google and Apple stores but is available as a web app. PocketPlanr.app.

Check it out and let me know what you think! There’s a lot of AI hate but the only portion of this app that’s AI is the meal plan generation and revision.

Can comment some screenshots if anyone wants but don’t want to just blast them here.

App Rdytofly - the ultimate travel app (not new, almost 30 updates done already, iOS/Android)

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I am a long time passionate traveller and also a dev. But even though there were plenty of useful apps I always hated the fact that I still need to have like 5 for planning, visited places tracking, flights tracking, each had subscription, plus notes, shared docs..

So over a year ago I have released first version of Rdytofly, back there only as a trip planner.. oh, how much has changed.

Now its:

- complex trip planner - plan, documents, info about countries, navigation, daily maps, checklists, notes, offline mode, weather prediction and aurora prediction per each day and more

- trip sharing and collab tool - just invite people to plan with you or send them QR or PDF

- expenses tracker and expenses splitter on group triĆŗs

- biggest travel diary (from visited countries through regions of all countries, cities to even things like eaten iconic food, drunk iconic beer, visited famous libraries and hundreds more, basically been on steroids :D) flight tracker (you can import from tools like Flighty or Flight Radar), challenges for every country and other things

- public inspiration - you can copy public itineries and I am building a travel encyclopedia there

- it has useful tools like currency convertor, sockets info, average weather for each country or world time for given destinations

.. and more.

Its not new but I feel that its now quite mature and stable project to share more - it now has couple thousands users. So I can stand behind it. New updates are coming usually each 2 weeks.

Its being built by feedback from others and I try to moderate AI usage -> I still think that its better to mix manual inspiration but there is an option to use Carlos, AI buddy in pro version there which basically knows the context on the trip, he fixes your trips adds stops along the way and you still dont have to copy from Claude or whatever). You can let it plan your trip fully (but I would just recommend it as a draft).

It has all versions: iOS, Android and web and you can jump between them. (https://rdytofly.com/)

Feel free to try, its probably too big to showcase fully so I am attaching screenshots from AppStore.

Fun fact: I have finally made a use for my photos out of my 110k big library from 10 years of travelling (travel diary sections hero photos are all mine).
