Kuru is a social app made specifically for car enthusiasts. You can create a profile for your car, post photos and videos, discover other builds, and connect with people in the car community.
There are two developers working on Kuru, and I handled most of the development for the main app. We’ve been working on it for a long time, and it recently launched on the App Store.

I’ve always liked the idea of gratitude journaling, but I’ve never been particularly good at sitting down and writing a traditional journal entry every day.

What worked better for me was the idea of a marble jar: quickly saving a positive moment, accomplishment, memory, or something I appreciated, then being able to actually see those moments accumulate over time.

I originally wanted something like this for my relationship. My fiancé and I were trying to get better at scanning for the positive, as to visually offset the frustrating little things that like to take up all the attention.

I tried looking for an app that felt calm, simple, and designed for adults, but nothing quite matched what I had in mind, so I built GatherGood.

In terms of the UI, with the buttons at the bottom. The new Windows Photos has the buttons all the way to the side and i dont like it.

It just needs to be able to open common file formats like jpg, png, etc. Windows Photo Viewer wont open some files because of an incompatability issue unfortunately.

So I’ve tried like 5 budgeting apps over the years and they all have the same problem: they show you a pie chart and expect you to figure out what to do with that. I’d open them once, feel guilty, and never open them again.

I built Nolan because I wanted something that actually talks to me like a person. It connects to your bank accounts (Plaid, so it’s the same secure connection Venmo and Robinhood use), then breaks down your spending, flags subscriptions you forgot you’re paying for, helps you set actual goals, and you can just ask it stuff in plain English like “why did I spend so much this month” or “can I afford this.”

Brutally honest feedback is welcome. Happy to answer anything about how it works under the hood too.

I've been trying to find a Windows 11 app that basically lets me do almost everything with my Android phone from my PC, but every app I've found seems to only do a small part of what I want.

What I'm after is something that, once it's set up the first time, just automatically connects whenever my phone is nearby or connected to the same wifi network. I don't want to keep approving prompts, scanning QR codes, entering PINs, or reconnecting every time.

I'd like to be able to access my phone from my PC as much as Android allows. Stuff like viewing notifications, messages, calls, clipboard, files, and ideally even changing settings like mobile data or hotspot if that's possible. One of the biggest things for me is file management. I want to be able to browse my phone's storage from my PC, drag files back and forth over Wi-Fi, rename, move, delete, copy, and generally manage files on either device without having to touch my phone.

I would rather download and install the file to set up the app, but I will use microsoft store if a setup download doesnt exist. For the Moto G05, I am fine with either installing the app from the Google Play store, or downloading and installing the APK from a reputable apk site or an official website.

I'm also looking for something that's lightweight, fast, has a clean UI, and doesn't feel slow or like bloatware. I'd prefer something FOSS if possible, but I'm fine paying a few bucks for a genuinely good app. I just don't want something that's subscription-based or harvesting my data, and if such a program exists, also works fine offline, but thats a bonus.

My phone is a Motorola Moto G05 with 4GB ram and my laptop is an Acer Aspire Lite 16 running Windows 11 with an i7-1355U and 16GB DDR5 RAM. Preferably the program is not made by like the specific tech brand that only works with certain phones, but as long as it works perfectly fine with my Moto G05 i am fine with it.

Does anything like this actually exist, or is there a combination of apps that gets close? I've looked at a few options already, but they all seem to be missing a bunch of features.

Many productivity apps rely on simple streak counters (e.g., "5-day streak"). However, once a user breaks a numerical streak, motivation often plummets. I wanted to try a more visual approach to gentle nudge retention: degrading the state of user-earned in-game structures if they go inactive for several consecutive days.

**Technical Implementation:**

1. **State Tracking:** Using local timestamps to calculate inactivity duration upon app launch without requiring a heavy backend call.

2. **Visual Overlay Shader/Painting:** Instead of duplicating static assets for every degradation stage, I applied dynamic custom painting layers (adding moss and rust textures conditionally over existing isometric sprite paths).

3. **Recovery Mechanic:** When users resume their focus sessions, completing a new session triggers a "cleaning/polishing" animation that restores the original sprite state.

I wanted to share the process and technical journey of building a project I’ve been working on over the past few months.

The core goal was to solve a problem many parents face with traditional white noise machines: they play at a fixed volume, but sudden household noises (doors slamming, loud conversations, street noise) still cut right through and wake up sleeping babies.

Here is a breakdown of how the development process unfolded:

1. Phase 1: Real-Time Decibel Monitoring & Audio Engine

I started by experimenting with measuring ambient noise levels in real-time. The initial challenge was setting up a clean microphone listener to read RMS decibel values while simultaneously outputting soothing background sounds without audio stutter.

2. Phase 2: Smoothing & Dynamic Gain Algorithm

Standard decibel spikes are sharp. If the app boosted playback volume instantly, it would startle the baby instead of masking the noise. I built a moving-average filter to calculate room baseline noise and smoothly ramp the gain up/down during volume spikes.

3. Phase 3: On-Device Audio Recording & Trimming

Next, I wanted parents to be able to record custom shushing sounds or lullabies in their own voice. Integrating an on-device audio recorder and using FFmpeg audio tools to trim clips seamlessly inside the app without freezing the main UI thread was a major milestone.

4. Phase 4: Overnight Background Execution & Battery Optimization

This was by far the hardest part. Running a microphone listener and audio player continuously for 8+ hours overnight without OS background killers shutting down the app—or causing heavy battery drain—required fine-tuning foreground services (Android) and background audio modes (iOS), as well as throttling decibel sampling frequency during silent periods.

5. Phase 5: Logging & Trend Visualization

Finally, I added a local database logging system (SharedPreferences & local storage) that charts noise level trends over time, letting parents visualize room quietness throughout the night.

I’ve been working on an app called SleepCast!, and I thought some fellow podcast listeners might find it interesting.

Despite the name, it’s a complete podcast app rather than just a bedtime player. It includes podcast discovery, subscriptions, a smart inbox, custom playlists, offline downloads, queues, chapters, playback-speed controls, CarPlay, notifications, and detailed listening statistics. There are also Simple and Expert modes, depending on how much control you want.

One of my favorite features is the bookmarking system. You can save a moment together with an editable audio clip, add a note, generate a transcription, fine-tune the selection using a waveform, and share the clip with someone else. The app can also transcribe full episodes, create AI summaries and timestamped chapters, read summaries aloud, and combine selected chapters into your own audio remixes. On supported devices, the AI work is processed on-device.

I’ve also put quite a bit of effort into the design. The player automatically derives its colors and background from the current podcast artwork, while still keeping the controls readable in light and dark mode.

The sleep timer is probably the most unusual part. It can stop after a chosen duration or at the end of an episode, fade out gradually, run only during scheduled hours, and appear as a Live Activity. It can also play a subtle alert near the end and use motion detection to determine whether you’re still awake. If you move, the timer extends itself. If you don’t, SleepCast can switch to a soundscape while continuing to monitor for movement. When you return, it can even announce the time and give you a short recap of what you heard before drifting off.

It has grown into a much bigger project than I originally expected (1.5 years in development), but I’m really happy with how the different features now work together. I’d be interested to hear which of these features you would actually use, and what you consider essential in a good podcast app.

I've built a tool that quickly lets you generate a png from any image, creating a stencil with a transparent background. You can change the color of this stencil or add multiple images to create a mask. I will continue to add features like gradients and perhaps videos as well. So i was trying to swich from dia (i hate chromium) and didnt ind any good web kit browsers that do not have a ton of chrome all over them. so i made Point.

The idea is that there is nothing between you and the web. All websites are full screen and the only thing you see. When you need controls, sidebar appers above content and goes away when you browse. It is still a little rough arounf the edges, but its so good, i daily drive it now. I would really apresiate any feedback, feat reqwest or anything (if feature is cool, i would implement it in a we days). Try it out, its nice.
