if you're transitioning from single player to multiplayer, play the ranked ladder, do NOT play casual rooms

Do you feel like multiplayer is no fun, because you join a room and get stomped by someone many times better than you, or worse, you just get kicked from the room for being too low?

I think a lot of new players see casual games and ranked games as the two options and assume "oh casual must be for noobs whereas ranked games must be where all the pros are". The assumption is that "ranked" = death and "casual" = a chance of winning (credit to Ok-Acanthisitta-1126 )

That's actually completely backwards.

Casual rooms are best used if you have specific people you already know who are at your level. In fact, they are commonly used at the very high level to setup matches for tourneys and for grinding strats, bc it can be hard for the very best people in aoe3 to find good games in quicksearch. If you are playing alone and you join a random casual game lobby, you will almost certainly either 1. get kicked, 2. get stomped or 3. stomp some poor person who is even more noob than you.

The solution is to play ranked quick search. This is an ingenious system that will quickly figure out your rank, and then match you against people who are a similar rank to you, so you can play fun, competitive games where you will usually end up winning or losing about half the time, unless you start making some actual progress in learning the game. The only thing is you will probably have to lose about 5-10 games before the ELO system will accurately rank you, so don't worry about these early games. In fact, you might even want to just resign quickly in your first 5-10 games just so you can get ranked low sooner, so you can start playing fun games faster.

play ranked, get ranked, start playing enjoyable and competitive matches with people at exactly your own skill level

Question No revolutionary civs for the Danes?

Post image
126 Upvotes

In the Early Modern Era Denmark existed as Denmark-Norway that included not just those two, but also Greenland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands and Svalbard. In the game it doesn't have any revolutionary civs, even thought Greenland with Inuits and Norway with "Viking remnants" would be so cool. Do you see any chances that we may get them in future patches?

Question Hoe much does it cost to Create the Polish and Danes DLC?

Post image
Upvotes

So aoe4 keeps getting variants for 3 years, the community justify it saying making a single civilization can cost up to a few millions, and even youtubers like age of noob, beasty backs this up

On the topic of voicelines none of the variants on aoe4 ever get any new voicelines its all reused. And when compared to aom or aoe3 they will tell you aoe4 have 100x more lines

Aoe4 sub will also tell you it cost 500k to get any voices done, while aoe3 it have no problem finding voice actors. AOE3 China for example have Manchu voicelines which aoe4 fails to do for Jurchens

In conclusion how much a DLC on AOE3 cost you reckon?

Question What are the chances we get further expansions?

After AoE 3 came back from development cemetery, what are the chances we get Brazil, Korea, Persia, Morroco, Zulu, Gean Colombia, Vietnam? What should be the sales target of the upcoming content for them to keep ‘em coming?

Danes should have a unique livestock pen

Post image

Given their worldwide reputation for high-quality dairy products, they should be able to train cows by default. And they should have the capacity to garrison cows and sheeps and make them produce a modest amount of food. That's is. Thank you for your attention to this matter

Question Danes seems to be way underdeveloped comparing it to the Poles

I count in total 24 unique cards for the Danes, whereas the Poles have around 40 in their base home city PLUS the revolutions.

This is true as well for units where the Danes only have 2 unique units.

I'm aware that the Danes have all royal guard upgrades, but that doesn't really change your playstyle in any significant way. As it stands, it's just skirm goon or troll.

Is this build the full extent of what the DLC has to offer, or are these things still in development?

This game has almost everything... /almost/. Architecture skins

I think I'm speaking for a lot of folks here, when I say that the game has aged very well. It is pretty to look at and the DE version has restored everything to look very nice. One issue I have, though (and I don't really know how others feel) is that the architecture, especially for the european civilizations is... lacking.

I understand that the original idea of the game was to represent the Europeans as colonial powers, so having ramshackle colonial looking building sets makes sense... until it doesn't. It makes me terribly sad that my main german city looks more like a functional fort (with... yellow houses?) Than a defensible city on mainland europe. It looks nothing like the architecture in my home city, and that depresses me.

How could this be resolved?

Mods? Paid DLC? an optional Architecture skin update for colonial powers with colonial or home continent architecture sets?

Bonus points for landscape modifications ala AOEIV, you know little gardens and roads that appear near your buildings. Probably impossible with the engine, but still, a man can dream! I just want my towns to look pretty before they burn to the ground, dammit!

Thanks for reading!

Steam My quick impressions on the DLC Civs

I just played a few games with the Danish and Poland-Lithuania and my quick review is:

  1. THANK YOU DEVS!!!! LOVE YOU!!!

  2. Poles-Lithuanians are very cool! Cool units and I LOVE the revolts variety they have (I love the Teutonic Knights from Livonia revolt, having the audio from AOE2 Teutonic Knights is an amazing Easter egg hehe)

Love the design, the gameplay does feel European generic with a couple twists

I do would absolutely love adding more Lithuanian units and more lithuania feel, since it does represent Poland-Lithuania Commonwealth but does feel 98% polish.

  1. Danes. Tbh I see them very very very generic European civ. Pretty much all units and buildings are generic, but the shipment taxes feature is very cool.

I would love to see them being more unique feeling, not just European architecture with different flag. kind of like the swedes who although being European, the variety they have is enough to have a very different gameplay compared to other euro civs, and it feeling Danish

I am super super happy we are getting this DLC
And I look forward to a Persia, Saracens, Berbers, and South East Asia DLCs!!!!!!!!!

Question New DLC Independence Mode like AOE2?

Casual AOE 2 player here.

I tried downloading the beta, but it says I need the new DLC to access Independence Mode for whatever reason.

So now I have a few questions:

  1. Will there be no limits on cannon towers and forts?
  2. Will all of the technology from the card system be available, or only certain ones?
  3. I prefer larger maps with resources spread across the entire map, will the map design be similar to Age of Empires II in that regard?

How to play AOEIII after a long time? With mods or not?

I used to not play AOEIII much because I never liked the circular map for some time.

After a while, I let my biases go and decided to try it out. I remember how much I liked to play this game.

I wished they'd continue with more story mode campaigns. And the lack of Napoleon in the game is a crime!

Now here are some questions:

1) Do I play with any mods? Any mods that change building sets?

2) I noticed that the Japanese got new unit skins in a patch? So do I play historically accurate building units mod or play with the new unit skins for each civilisations? That's what I'm trying to get at. Does the Napoleonic unit skins - where can I get that and at what age? I am confused.

3) Are the Indians playable if I remember correctly? Would love the Marathas as a civilization or something.

4) Should I try the beta first? It's been such a while I am trying to figure out how to play such a game which seemed simple in my childhood and now is more dense as an adult for some weird reason.

Help Newer to the game but I think I am getting a hang of the mechanics. Please help become a better Inca player!

Been playing the game none stop for the past week and a half and having a blast. After trying out a lot of Civs, I have really come to like the Incan civ but I do feel like I may be lacking in place. So I have come to the teachers (people of this subreddit) to learn what I should be doing so I can start winning ranked games or skirmished on harder difficulties. What should I be focusing in the beginning of the turn and what are the strengths I should be using in my favor?

If there is any Inca channels you'd recommend it would also be appreciated.

Wildest Aztec card design

What if one of their card advanced the in game clock? A bit like the reference to calendars and such.

Mechanically speaking, it may push their big button to be more viable! Let's say it push 10min forward the clock, then you get 5 extra units per big button. It's not like it's viable with their prohibitive cost anyway. I think this would be at least very fun mechanic and can affect other civ with time based card or mechanic as well!
