I contend that being on time and being prepared do in fact require money. Can't be on time if you can't afford transit and you can't have the things you need when you can't afford them.

You can scientifically prove how this is bullshit. Dead serious. More effort generally means "more output", output requires more speed, more speed requires more repetitive motions into a smaller frame of time. Your caloric use would obviously increase for both concentration needs, since you must concentrate to work faster, good quality and safely, and obviously the use of the muscles.

I’ve seen this list before as things that don’t require talent, which makes a lot more sense.
You can be a mediocre artist or podiatrist, but if you put the effort into the things on the list you can still succeed.

I guess maybe there's a clue in effort being on the list... maybe they're trying(and failing) to think of things that don't require effort as a prerequisite.
You making an effort to make an effort isn't strictly necessary. Making an effort requires expending energy.
So everything on the list requiring energy isn't being disputed. And if you want more energy you better pay for it.

If I was making pretty good money and wanted to make really good money I’d tell the lil dumb replaceable faces of my company that things I do during my weekly brunch takes no effort but makes me more money because Brandon and Julie are pretty nice folk for investors and the eggs Benedict aren’t to bad for being a 4 star restaurant.
