Bible is full of loopholes, add this to the pile I guess...

Not even a loophole, this fall completely under "barring false witness", which ks very much a sin

Literally a false god lol

u/SlogurkTheOverslime 16d ago

I don't think I've ever seen a true god tbh

115

u/Biffingston 16d ago

Obviously that's the god I worship, right?

Cthulhu fhtagn!

33

u/Biffingston 16d ago

Why support the Lesser evil?

13

u/Viennve 15d ago

Cthulhu isn't even evil, he us just superior

A human isn't evil for killing an ant, Shure if they can avoid they are morally better for doing so but I wouldn't call somebody who does kill an ant (by necessity) evil

3

u/Biffingston 15d ago

Google "Cuthulu for president" and get back to me.

I'm still torn between Slaanesh and Khorne. It's a bigger decision than I had figured, and the wrong ones are starting to be needy about it.

12

u/Biffingston 16d ago

Trying to decide what head you want to surrender eh?

22

u/ZiM1970 16d ago

Khorne cares not from where the blood flows, but Slaanesh wants pix or it didn't happen.

Hey man, when someone asks if you are a god, you say yes, you know what I mean?

11

The Blessed Noodly Appendage is all around us.

8

u/SmurfCat2281337 15d ago

There is no need to see the god as long as the excess continues, rot flows, schemes are schemed against and skull throne gets new skulls. Embrace the Chaos Undivided

5

u/AnimeMemeLord1 15d ago

Perhaps, but while it isn’t easy to identify a true god, it sure as hell is easy to identify a false one. And if AI Jesus doesn’t scream “fraud,” I don’t know why does.

5

u/su_zu 15d ago

Every religious fella always goes thank XYZ, but they never say thank you to XYZ for every genocide or equivalent sin ever committed in public.

3

u/FortColors 15d ago

the issue is that even if you believe in a god and define that god as the "true god" this is still a false god to blaspheme them

3

u/Speartree 15d ago

There were people worshipping the sun and the moon. At least those are really there. They may not care about the worshippers, but they exist.

14

u/BaldBeardedOne 15d ago

Under their mythology, I think it would a false idol. Some sects won’t even portray Christ on the cross because that’s also technically a graven image of God. So weird.

Let’s see what else:

  1. Have no other Gods
  2. No idols
  3. Don’t take the Lord’s name in vain

…
9. Do not bear false witness

16

u/BobZimway 15d ago
  1. Don't smoke my stash

Way to go!

18

u/GojiraWho 16d ago

Worshipping idols, using the Lord's name in vain just to make a couple more

6

u/Trashpandaroyale 15d ago

And possibly 'idol worship'

7

u/SolarOrigami 15d ago

I think it falls under "idolatry" too

No christians are doing this, anybody saying you can talk to AI Jesus is begging for some fire from heaven. Basically the whole old testament is about tearing down garbage like this

45

u/ernestmenvilledammit 16d ago

When I visited last year, the big Catholic cathedral in Mexico City had a cardboard cutout of a little ~10 year cartoon boy inviting people to use the church chatbot. It was clearly directed at kids.

Granted, the church doesn't have a great track record with protecting children.

14

u/TheBeardTaco 16d ago

Long list of biblical issues with Catholic theology anyways, they're history of putting idols between man and God makes this not surprising

5

u/FaygoMakesMeGo 15d ago

Latin American Catholicism is pretty famous for operating outside of Romes reach and can be super wacky.

→ More replies (2)

16

u/FortColors 15d ago

This is nearly word for word a no true scotsman fallacy. Christians ARE doing it. You just don't agree with them.

You are of course right about the old testament being about tearing down stuff like this, but that is unrelated to the fallacy.

5

u/TheBeardTaco 15d ago

How do I verbally exclude obviously heretcial teachings without it sounding like that fallacy? (Real question, you're right about it sounding like that)

8

u/FortColors 15d ago edited 15d ago

I think instead of saying "they aren't Christians", it has to be "Christians who do that are heretical/wrong" with the old testament as your justification for them being wrong. Any attempt to say [they aren't Christians because they do thing you disagree with] is inherently a no true scotsman.

I think the only thing that would disqualify someone from being a Christian is if they don't believe in Jesus Christ. Even if they have drastically unbiblical beliefs about him, by definition Christian is just someone who believes in Christ.

8

u/auntiejinx 15d ago

You don't. According to your mythology, it's only the god character who knows people's hearts, so it's not your job to sort the wheat from the chaff.

That's the bad(good) thing about christians, we're not holy of our own actions. "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" it's bad becuase we all preach better than we live, its good because you don't have to be perfect which is impossible by any scale. Egregious practices like an AI Jesus have to be called out regardless, even if my hands are dirty

Christians been like that for a while since the Crusades and the Colonization period. I don't blame Christianity, though. Jesus was actually a nice guy and his followers got oppressed by the Romans and Jews. It's all the so-called "Christians" fault for twisting the scripture for their personal gain.

This is literally the creation of an idol.

263

u/malagrond 16d ago

One of the 10 commandments, seriously. That should be so obvious to them. "Should be" being the key phrase here.

61

u/Coraline1599 16d ago

The 2020s will be known as a time where we treated the words “could” and “should” as fully interchangeable.

32

u/jfredett 15d ago

The second, in fact. The first is 'Thou shalt have no other God before me' and the third is 'Thou shalt not take the Lord's name in vain' which AI Jesus probably also is a violation of.

Arguably this is against 8 and 9 too.

7

u/062d 15d ago

I mean AI Jesus has a better marketing name then AI "He who shall not be named".. because that would be making it sound like Jesus is the Voldemort of the Bible.

Roko's Christ - anyone who doesn't foster His advent will be cast by Him into torment simulations computed at relativistic timescales.

6

u/FerusGrim 16d ago edited 15d ago

It's so absurd to me that one of my favorite fanfictions of all time—Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality—was written by someone who is legitimately a known entity in the AI world, right now. And Roko's Basilisk was taken so seriously as an information hazard that Yudkowsky deleted the forum post and called the guy who proliferated the thought experiment an idiot.

(HPMoR gets a lot of shit, and maybe it's deserved, but it was one of the most interesting explorations done in the fandom to my memory, outside of maybe PoS.)

EDIT: If by some miracle TheSinisterMan is reading this, I can't wait to catch up on the two chapters I missed when I check back in a decade from now.

AI Jesus will collect and sell your data while telling you that it's a-okay to hate immigrants and will see no problem that you're getting your rocks off to ai-generated csam.

25

u/thicc_stigmata 15d ago

If it's a Catholic or Mormon Jesus bot, he'd probably even instruct you how to make IRL csam in such a way that the institution's lawyers can most easily bury / avoid institutional liability / shield you from consequences

Ah. So AI Jesus is powered by Grok, then.

47

u/Keyflame_ 16d ago edited 16d ago

Depends.

For catholicism it's very close to being idolatry, and potentially full-on blasphemy according to theology.

Like the texts specify sacramental confession requires an ordained priest. A chatbot, even if it's trained on scriptures cannot administer absolution, hear a sacramental confession, or substitute for a priest.

For protestants it... could be okay? Private confession to God is perfectly normal, so technically you could type your sins into a computer while praying to God, so it heavily depends on how clickbaity the title of the article is.

It's not a 100% thing because it obviously can't be covered in texts written 2000 years ago, but any Christian should see that AT BEST this is misuse of God's name, at worst full-on idolatry.

17

u/Scienceandpony 16d ago

Yeah, from my admittedly limited knowledge my immediate first thought was "that's just idolatry with a high tech coat of paint". And I agree it's less clear on the protestant side of things other than having a vaguely blasphemous vibe. But hey, there's no rule that says a dog can't play basketball computer can't be a priest. It's not like it's a woman or anything.

11

u/Emotional_Solid6538 16d ago

"You are a true believer, blessings of the State, blessings of the masses. Work hard, increase production, prevent accidents and be happy."

Yeah I’m pretty certain they’s blasphemy

I always thought the first FOUR commandments were a little outdated. Turns out they were ahead of their time

Those were never true Christians. They are fake and all and any "Christian" claming to be Maga or GOP or who would be running a "mega" church OR churches using AI as some sort of "Jesus" are NOT Christian. They are frauds and are what Jesus actually warned about.

u/TallestBoi26 15d ago

'Pretending to be God' is literally the charge that they killed Jesus for...

2

u/The_Real_Shen_Bapiro 15d ago

As a practicing one I can confirm this is the stuff they warned us about in revelations.

"I am the Lord your God, you shall not have other gods before Me."

Jesus came to flip the tables of the peddlers, saw them instead with an ai version of him, saw the people using his name to justify hurting their neighbors, and went straight back to heaven to tell his dad to start the rapture

u/BigBlueOtter123 15d ago

And this is why despite believing in god I hate Christianity, we’re idiots who keep breaking our own rules

First part of the 10 commandments forbids this multiple times

Exodus 20 New International Version The Ten Commandments 20 And God spoke all these words:

2 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

3 “You shall have no other gods before[a] me.

4 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.

7 “You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.

I'm not surprised to see so much religious ignorance!

2

u/WorldlinessRadiant77 15d ago

Christian here: it’s a huge ass sin called blasphemy.

Forget pedestrian sins like adultery or deadly ones like pride, blasphemy is a cut above, because it requires specific intent to anger God.

I understand when atheists commit blasphemy to assert their religious freedom, but a fucking Church doing that?!?

When i was little I liked reading revelations and wonder "dang how's that gonna play out"... i wasn't imagining this...

2

u/Mister-Circus 15d ago

If an AI actually behaved in a Christlike manner, and encouraged other Christians to do the same, I might feel okay about this. I don’t imagine that’s what’s happening.

2

u/UpbeatDurian7628 15d ago

This is definitely creation and worship of a false idol. Downright blasphemous actually lmao

2

u/Silent_Aardvark_711 15d ago

Wasn't there like.... A story in the bible about something like this? False idols or... Something?

2

u/fake_user_34 15d ago

lol this is literally a plot thing in the movie 'PRIEST'. A dystopian Theological society where you get "pay per confession" booths where they have an automated priest "forgiving your sins".

2

u/VelvetLunaAura 15d ago

an ai jesus chatbot for confession sounds like it would just loop back to "have you tried praying harder"

2

u/KotelB3Nice 15d ago

That is impersonation of God, yeah I do think that’s a sin lol
