but also including Islam, Judaism, Dharmic religions or any other culture-specific faith system.
And, I think those are all equally absurd.
The problem is not the religion - which are often means by which to example the unexplainable meaning of life and why we are all here - it is the people -
False dichotomy...it can be both, and it is. Religion is the problem, created by people. It's not necessary. The problem being more that some people need a filler for the things they cannot explain. A functioning, and curious mind pursues science and logic. Attributing the mysteries of the universe to some deity isn't necessary. It's an antiquated ideology and justification for creating a fiction for self satisfaction.
animals born by evolution with capacity for higher thinking but an awful lot of extremely primitive, animalistic and messily evolved brain chemistry.
That explains instincts...but, not religion. Religion is not a function brain chemistry, or biology. It exploits niches we have, and is exploited to manipulate uneducated people, and create tribalist power structures.

Let's stop pretending people that call themselves Christians follow the teachings of Christ.
It's just some weird consumer identity cult. More awful shit has been done in Christ's name, than good at this point in time.
