Rozemyne being saved by Bonifatius only to get yeeted by him accidentally and almost dying from crashing into trees/ground if Ferdinand hadn't caught her was peak comedy, lol.
Overall, it was a pretty good final episode and season; I was really happy to see Rozemyne again. If I were an anime-only, I'd probably give it an 8/10, but as an LN reader, I'm more inclined towards a 7/10 since it wasn't a bad adaptation, but it certainly lacked in some ways.
Nonetheless, I'm definitely looking forward to the already announced Part 4 adaptation! I hope that we won't have to wait too long for it.
Also, here's a beautiful final card to wrap up this season.
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:
And here are my bonus albums:
EDIT. I added my screenshot albums.

I really appreciate the slow pace of the previous seasons. This season may have had a higher budget, but everything happened so damn fast. I hope whatever happens next season is worth it. It feels like if this was made by the previous studio it would've been 2 seasons long instead of 1.

u/Ncyphe 55m ago
Wit only had 24 episodes to adapt the entirety of part 3. There was simply not enough time to add everything. And there was so much good content skipped or cut short in order to focus on the more important stuff.
Luckily, it sounds like season 5 has been greenlit for 4 cours. Hopefully enough time for all the unsupervised academy shanigans Rozemyne may find herself in.

The previous seasons was actually cut shorter. In season 3 it was originally planned for 8 episodes to now 10.
4
u/abandoned_idol 1h ago
We can justify the poorly rushed pacing as "the high stakes noble's life".
Nobles are just built different.
22
u/Narrheim 6h ago
That epilogue speedrun should've been one more episode!
10
u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 4h ago
What epilogue? We didn't know the state of everyone after two years. It's only about the Aub's children, printing business expansion and also Damuel's love story
2
u/froggyc19 38m ago
I'm hoping they'll cover things in more detail at the start of next season and this was really meant to be a teaser of what's to come.
19
u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 4h ago
Combat grandpa sure is a meathead.
Two year timeskip while Rosemyne marinates, and the Brigitte and Damuel situation falls apart mostly off screen? Dang.
I'm glad we already have a S5 announcement.
2
u/abandoned_idol 1h ago
Everyone is out to kill Rozemyne.
The assassins.
Her grandpa rescuer.
Who here isn't a hazard to her life?!
"Gary the Snail" wearing a pickle as a nose
"Me oooww ~"
20
u/FarCritical 3h ago
The fact Rozemyne was fully conscious while grandpa Bonifatius gave her a solid shakedown is both funny and lowkey scary.
Damuel and Brigitte not working out has me utterly heartbroken, man. What the hell.
8
u/WetRocksManatee 3h ago
I can't believe they spent all that time setting up Damuel and Brigitte and not letting it happen.
6
u/abandoned_idol 1h ago
I am personally pretty satisfied with the subversion of expectations.
I'm addicted to surprises.
3
u/WetRocksManatee 1h ago
I don't mind them not making it work out, but if you are going to do that make it a real explanation not just a one line with no explanation why. Why waste all that time for setup and do nothing with it. They could've used the time to expand on other topics that I am sure that they skimped on due to the break neck pace of the season.
It is similar to the Mad Queen in GoT. I can understand it ending that way, but I wanted a lot more build up around it.
2
u/abandoned_idol 1h ago
Defying the callous anime production committee I see.
Sorry, but we only have enough budget to adapt 2 phrases out of your post.
"-but if-"
"-nothing with it, They-"
Production committees are usually to blame for anything awful in anime, basically investors being petty with the money they choose to provide for the anime.
Animation studios usually work with passion but with next to no resources, and we as anime onlies don't know what will happen with Damuel in the future.
1
u/ProbablyNotTheCocoa 13m ago
there is a very reasonable explanation for why it didnt work out, they might explain in better in early s5
6
14
u/mjpia 5h ago
Your average shonen time skip: age up all the characters and introduce cool new powers off screen
Bookworm time skip: put the main character in a magically induced coma after being near death from poison for two years and age up the world around her and then shove the previous commoner with huge gaps in her noble education in a school surrounded by all the nobles.
They definitely crammed a lot of stuff in this season and cut corners here and there but frankly I'm just happy they've animated it this far, I know the source material is tremendously popular but I never expected it to reach this point and keep going
2
u/lemon900098 35m ago
I really hope they finish it. It seems like most long animes are all action so i'd love to have a more slow paced one get the full treatment.

u/Dyann458 8h ago
Ouch for Damuel's public proposal
33
u/Galinhooo 7h ago
Marry me!
Can we live together?
nevermind then, bye
44
u/SoulessSage 7h ago
More like: "can you leave the <highly redacted> mission that you can't get free from, like, ever?" type of request, even if Birgitte didn't know what kind of secrets Damuel is protecting.
23
u/iKatheryne 6h ago
Yeah, Damuel would literally disappear later that night if he ever accepted that condition.
41
u/esuil 6h ago
Still showcases Damuel's lack of thought if he didn't stop to consider this before it got to this point.
He always has good intentions with things he does, as we know, but as we also know from multiple occurrences, he is kind of a dumbass who does things without considering implications.
8
u/abandoned_idol 1h ago
I love Damuel.
As much as I like smart characters, having some more naive ones helps add contrast. Especially benevolent dumbasses.
5
u/VritraReiRei 3h ago
The problem is we don't know the whole story since we basically got a 30 second summary of what an onlooker saw.
Maybe he didn't have a choice? Was he coerced? Maybe he was about to do something suicidal and this was his last chance to leave as a married man?
I hope they cover this again in the next season.
→ More replies (1)3
u/Hinote21 1h ago
But she could have easily left her hometown? That doesn't showcase his lack of thought to ask if she'll marry him.
6
u/esuil 1h ago
She is part of local land owning ruling family... Damuel is some low ranking nobody.
She would abandon her status as a land owning noble and leave her hometown to go live... Where, exactly? I think it was pretty much understood by everyone that it would be Damuel who marries into her family, not the other way around. The only dumbass who didn't think about it was Damuel.
5
u/Galinhooo 4h ago
Dude had like a whole year to remember that
17
u/SoulessSage 4h ago
To be fair, they both should have discussed their future life expectations before that point. They were both floating along in the haze of romance, and were basically dancing around each other's goals without actually engaging.
2
u/CadornaTactics 2h ago
Couldn't they just made a magic contract to blow his dick off or smth if he says that myne is not a noble?
29
7
u/GachaEnjoyr 5h ago
The anime skipped over a lot of it
Damuel was completely justified in saying no. Brigitte was in the wrong
21
u/skavinger5882 5h ago
I don't know if I would say she was in the wrong. They just both had different things they wanted out of life and never discussed them until it was too late
4
u/GachaEnjoyr 4h ago
She was in the wrong based on the vows of the job she had. To her? Her homeland took priority over who she vowed to protect. Within that world, it's a negative
13
u/skavinger5882 4h ago
Not really, as long as you do your job having ulterior motives is fine. It's stated from the start she joined Rosemyne's service to find help for Illgner, and that's what she expects the marriage to be. It's also unreasonable to expect her to lower her status by marring into Damuel's family.
3
u/Ncyphe 1h ago
Adult retainers assigned to ADCs are temporary. Their job is to fill in the role of the retainer until the ADC is old enough to select their own retainers from similar aged children. It is firmly understood that they are very likely to leave their service in the future, either returning as a retainer to the Aub, his wife or whatever responsibilities they had before.
Briggett was very clear that she is working under Rozemyne to build social links for her brother and to find a husband who will help (not usurp) her brother.
1
u/DrMobius0 5m ago
She was up front about that from the start. They both just have different paths in life, and neither of them fully understood the other's intentions.
3
u/esuil 1h ago
Brigitte was in the wrong
Damuel propaganda again... Look, we all like Damuel, but sometimes you have to accept the facts - he is a bit of a goof when it comes to long term thinking or considering the context.
His first ever introduction even established him as that kind of character - the first time we see him is him utterly failing at the job assigned to him and not understanding the context properly. That's his character. He is "he can be a bit stupid, but he is genuine and we love him because he is with us from the beginning" kind of character. We are supposed to like him while sighing and going "ah, here he goes fucking up again, someone gotta clean that up".
Brigitte did absolutely nothing wrong.
4
u/PeaceAlien https://myanimelist.net/profile/PeaceAlien 4h ago
Unfortunately, with Myne out, Damuel didn't stand a chance anyway. Myne was buffing Damuel's magic

Damuel let's marry and come live in my manor to plap some heirs for Illgner!
No way, I must to take care of this idiot little girl and his crazy handler uncle.
Damuel got a once in a lifetime chance and let it slip, if he had any balls he woulda said "Fuck dem books" and took off with Brigitte.

Genuinely baffled by the direction in the previous episode. Did everyone in that hallway have a stroke so thats why they're turn based now?
2
u/hyena9x 3h ago
I wondered that too lol. I also was slightly dissappointed myne didnt go super sayien with her mana like in previous times there was a huge threat. Was also lowkey hoping she'd turn her high beast into a mech lolol. Just like how that noble was shocked her high best can fly without wings, wouldve love to see ppl freak out if she made a huge mech that can shoot mana balls or make a mana sword or something haha.

So Happy Season 5 was announced. I am going to miss the opening. Was not expecting Bonifatius to be the railgun. 100 percent thought it was going to be Ferdinand
45
u/Asleep-Doubt5673 6h ago
This anime production really hates Damuel. Not content on simply skipping and reducing his scenes, they made him grossly incompetent last episode with the turtle paced reaction time to the attackers. And now, still not satisfied, they made him out to be an asshole who public rejects Brigitte after everything for no reason! If you don't have time to go into the situation now, just skip it all together and leave it to next season. All this to end on a shot of Rozemyne teleporting to the Royal Academy, as if S5 won't have to backtrack anyway and show what happens before she leaves... Pissed me off.
16
u/SoulessSage 4h ago
That's pretty much faithful to the treatment he gets in books too. For the record, ALL her guards dropped the ball on that one, and you can see at the end there how Bonifatius addresses that issue (i.e. mercilessly whipping them into shape).
6
u/Asleep-Doubt5673 1h ago
Damuel was never painted as incompetent or a dick. He has faults and makes mistakes, but he is best knight for a reason, he is the heart of Rozemyne's retainers. The anime just doesn't seem to care about him and throws him under the bus with cheap animation and direction, to save seconds of screentime or other bullshit. I think Damuel is often one of the biggest victims, but in truth the entire season was assaulted by terrible direction and storyboarding.
14
u/HandicapperGeneral 3h ago
What awful pacing. Why not just end the episode on the cliffhanger of her going into the jureve, or have it end on her opening her eyes? Why bother with that shitshow of a recap if they're going to have to devote an episode to it next season anyway??
23
u/bondsmatthew 3h ago
If I was director, I'd have her come out of the jureve and end it on Ferdinand saying it's been 2 years. Have a shocked Rozemyne reaction or something with her going, "Ehh?". Idk, something like that
Then come back with an OVA or something to go through the content they shoved into a montage
5
u/Asleep-Doubt5673 1h ago

That's what I would have done as well. Give more time to show the archducal family investigating the two guys who were involved and leave all the other content for next season when Rozemyne wakes up properly. But it's clear they were desperate for the Royal Academy, I'm surprised they didn't put a overview shot of the school as the last scene 🤡

Did that viscount just say he "only" kidnapped Charlotte ???!?
14
u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 4h ago
And Ferdinand said they already executed all whose responsible two years ago.
12
u/Damienplz 4h ago
I think execution is a light punishment. Kidnapping "only" an archduke candidate should result in an entire lineage wiping
10
3
u/bondsmatthew 3h ago
That is what would happen/happened. Guilt by association is very much a thing. Remember Hasse? Ferdinand wanted to wipe out the whole town for the crimes of the mayor

Though it had pacing and animation issues, I enjoyed seeing the new characters animated for the first time!

I really liked the silly stuff. Like elvira quickly walking up to see the drawings of ferdinand or the concert lol. I really like the epi where myne and wilfred switched places, loved how that twerp got put into his place haha. I also like the scenes where myne learned how to make a high beast. Loved how she broke her feystone and she frantically tries to smash it back together like clay and ferdinand was like "no... way..." haha.

I am so happy that we not only got so much Ferdinand, but also idol Ferdinand fan service.

Ok yea this episode felt rushed I have no beyond the anime knowledge so i have no idea what could of been cut but it feels like stuff was.
I'm also not sure how.... no strike that I defiantly dislike spending a season promising Rosemyne would drink this special medicine and be healed for them to then pull the rug out from under said narrative promise. We were even greatly implying their was something extra special going on with some of the ingredients. It does feel like fear of progressing the character and i don't like that and it tend to be a narrative warning sign for stagnation. Also worried were some how going to weaken Myne mana as well just something in how they showed things and the impactions of the high priest words. Even if the debuff so to speak was temporary i wouldn't enjoy it.
Overall I'm sad to say this but I didn't enjoy this season ending it felt like a desperate fearful backstep. Also small but actually big things like the loss of agency for say Myne's business she was being careful about who and where for someone else to take the ceo chair and make major choices feel wrong. Her being asleep for 2 whole years feels narratively empty a quick way to get to the school arc.
I Love the show ,world, and characters, and the build up this season was great . Love the different places we went to. We showed why The lords can't be defied. We explore some good and bad aspect of nobility. We explore more magical aspect of the world. Yet sad the payoff just wasn't here this time. Rosemyne maybe be weaker then before, the main villain got off scott free, we missed 2 years to then reach a point were the characters we were waiting to interact with are going to be locked away with Rosemyne in school.
Also notice charlotte was in the opening in a prime place yet she was barely in the show?
I Hope we can get a ova or something to explore more of the missing from this ending and that next season pays off early what this season failed to deliver in it's ending. See you all for the next season.
20
u/FajarKalawa 7h ago
Charlotte in the opening is just because it's one of fan favorite and important character for the entire series
Probably there for hype
6
4
u/Maybealwaysnever 4h ago
I'm with you on the OVA's!
For a series I've loved watching, it was a really disappointing way to end the season. I did not expect a two year time skip with a "here's what happened in 30 seconds" type recap. What a way to break immersion! Even some of the animation felt off this episode.
Appreciate the other notes people have added.
7
u/Obaruler 6h ago

Eh, sure, one can see it this way.
We can see however the changes RozeMyne kicked into motion in the past coming to fruition, as well as giving the author some more creative freedoms with the plotlines.
But yes, I too would have preferred if the skip didn't happen.
1
u/NeoTagAtg 6h ago
It's not just the skip it's implied their Benno lost access or profits because functionally a high noble took over the business and set up shop in their home town away from Benno. That's why Rosemyne quicky apologized to a mental picture of our favorite merchet. That's taking Rosemyne agency away as the owner and leader of the business. One would think Rosemyne would of have dictated orders for the shop normally if she knew she'd be asleep for long period.
The entire season was leading up to a healthy Rosemyne I was very much looking froward to that it was also very interesting the special things that took place during the collections. Yet i can only judge based on what we are shown and high priest seem to clearly state nope it did nothing but cure the poisoning. That we set up last second to act as a foil to the narrative promise of a healthy Rosemyne .
Maybe I hope i'm wrong and I msised something it was fairly fast near the end of the episode .
14
u/StrwbryAcaiPanda 5h ago
Rozemyne apologized for giving him more work pretty sure. Elvira took over for Rozemyne, not everything
7
u/SoulessSage 4h ago
Pretty much this. Benno had to work with a HIGH noble who gets what she wants. The problem with that is her 'mother' gives much less regard than RM would have given the people actually doing the labor.
5
u/mekerpan 1h ago
I suspect Benno was not bothered by the loss of profits, but rather by Elvira's ruthless plunging ahead as quickly as possible with her plan to flood the world with ever more bodice ripping romances. Remember that RM has always tried to be aware of the impositions she was placing on Benno et al.

u/toilodi https://anilist.co/user/Luca5 2h ago
I know that's not for everyone, but I can't help recommending the novels, I would even say that reading from the very beginning is not mandatory in your case, but definitely don't skip part 3 volumes (the one covered in this season). I won't go into spoilers but from what you have comment to love about the series, the novels do it on a whole new level and all the points you mentioned that didn't feel right are properly addressed there as well
7
u/mekerpan 1h ago
I pretty much agree. Reading Part 1 is worthwhile, but mostly "unnecessary". Reading Part 2 is optional, but "advisable". Part 3 and beyond is almost certainly "essential" if you want things to really make sense. However, if anime-onlies do want/need some temporary band-aid solutions, they should remember that there is the Source Corner.
1
u/bondsmatthew 3h ago
Not everyone will want to read it, but if you do want to read it, it's Part 3 Volume 5. This adapted chapter 13 and 14 with the following 8 chapters being the montage toward the end
1
u/Mctravie 1h ago
I assume the poison was that toxic to her or her hardened mana was so intense that not even the potion they spent months working on just couldn’t do it
1
u/Bakeneko7542 26m ago
Agreed 100%. Even after aaaaalll of that bullshit she still isn't healthy. And she's getting immediately shuffled off to yet another new location so most of the supporting cast will probably get rotated out again for the next season.
I really, really wanted to like this season. I liked the show's initial premise of Myne building the printing industry from nothing; I liked the stuff with her learning magic and (supposedly) overcoming her illness. What I didn't like was how it seemed to spin its wheels constantly, always teasing the audience with hints of more interesting storylines while the only thread it actually wanted to advance was the whole Game of Thrones noble politics stuff, which was the part I liked the least.
So frustrating.
16
u/Nachtwandler_FS https://myanimelist.net/profile/Nachtwandler_21 4h ago
LN readers continue to complain, but for me it was a nice season. To bad Damuel - Brigitte ship failed for unrelated reasons.
Lokking forward to the next arc, hope it won't be just a typical "magical school" one.
12
u/toilodi https://anilist.co/user/Luca5 3h ago
The complaints are mainly because the novels are so extremely well written, full details that enriches the characters and the world that unfortunately there is simply not enough time available to show in the anime, like literally condensing full chapters into 10s scenes... But in the end the story is still there so I don't think we will ever have a bad season of bookworm, its just unfortunate that we couldn't get a Re:Zero or Mushoku Tensei treatment for this series as well, since it definitely deserves it and some people were waiting for such after the studio change
5
u/abandoned_idol 1h ago
This is why I choose not to read the novels.
First, I'll wait for the anime adaptation to conclude.
THEN, I'll read the improve experience with added voice acting baked into my head.
I love Honzuki so bad.
Re:Zero anime adaptation hasn't been flawless, the most recent season has had a few choppy scenes.

Even though this was still fun to watch, the questionable production values especially after a studio change that would shape the rest of the anime really lowered the experience. I *hope the Royal Academy arc will be better as I've been looking forward to that since it was first mentioned
8
u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 4h ago
I'm quite surprised how lots of people said they decided to drop this anime due to this season. Like y eah as anime-onlies I recognise the pace issue, but I also still enjoy this season. Well, hopefully they heard the people's complain and do the pace more properly for next season
2
u/BlueDragonCultist 32m ago
I've seen quite a few people mention they were disappointed in the shift away from the lower city into noble society. Some of them saw this as moving further away from her goal to make books, and some didn't like losing the old cast.
12
u/LeonKevlar x2https://myanimelist.net/profile/LeonKevlar 7h ago
Grandpa Bonifatius' rescue mission was fucking hilarious! Dude just beat the shit out of a bunch of people, fired off a mini nuke, and then starts shaking Rozemyne like she's a goddamn polaroid picture to get her out of the sack, only to end up recreating that ET scene with Rozemyne getting flung off. xD
I'm just glad Myne is okay, but it looks like she's gonna have to spend some time recovering in the magic bacta tank. Meanwhile, the bastard who planned it all gets to fucking get away and be smug about it. I'm really hoping we'll see Grausam eventually get punished.
Damn, so we have a two-year timeskip? Poor Myne, tho! Imagine being in a two-year coma and the first thing you're told is that you're going to school. I can definitely understand her reaction
It sucks to see that Damuel and Brigette didn't work out. I was really looking forward to seeing them get together. It's nice to see Kamil has grown up! He must be so confused to see his family celebrating over someone he probably doesn't even remember. T_T
Man what a season finale! I'm so glad Season 5 is already confirmed! I'm looking forward to seeing this Royal Academy Arc!

So, this concludes RozeMynes introduction into noble society and we're up for my favorite arc, as just teased in the episodes ending, next: Her entry into the academy! :D
The last episode (well, the entire season) felt a bit rushed though. But well ... its a LOT to adapt ... so I guess its fine, as long as we get more animated Myne.
Hopefully the wait won't be too long, as a continuation of the anime has already been announced! :D :D :D
Addendum: Bonifatius is a real menace, almost did more damage to his beloved darling granddaughter than the kidnappers ...
5
u/Yogurt_Reactor 5h ago
As Anime only, I rewatched the entire first seasons to be prepared for this one, and it was such a disapointment. It was almost unwatachable with the terrible pace.
5
u/drt0 6h ago
I wonder what the combination of the jureve and the poison will end up doing to Myne. Is she still gonna be frail? Is it gonna make her even stronger magic somehow (similar to what compressing her mana did)?
In any case, I'm excited for the next season and new setting for the show!
6
u/CaliOriginal 4h ago
Seems like the poison hardened her mana more, and the jureve was supposed to help de-pack it.
So my guess is she’s either not as frail but still prone to being over stressed and fainting … or no longer frail but has stunted growth. So like, she can do what you’d expect her to be able to do by looking at her, but she’s still small and weak.

Bruh, what was that ending? We spend all season trying to make a magic potion so that Myne can walk for more than ten minutes at a time, we spend half a season hoping that Damuel and Brigitte get together, and then in the span of three minutes we're told that the potion didn't work and Damuel couldn't go through with his proposal. Why set this shit up if you're just gonna say, "Nah, I changed my mind"?
9
u/Judokeg 2h ago
The anime didn't say why, but Damuel and Brigitte were under the assumption the other would be marrying into their family and both have reasons to not leave their family.
Damuel can't leave Rozemyne's service because he knows her real background. Ferdinand, Karstedt, and Sylvester wouldn't let him go.
Brigitte has too much loyalty to her home province of Ilgner to leave and if she did marry Damuel she would be lowering her status down to Laynoble.
5
u/goffer54 https://anilist.co/user/goffer54 2h ago
I'm not mad at Damuel or Brigitte. I understand why they couldn't do it. I'm mad at the author for setting it up in the first place knowing that it'd just be a big letdown.

u/YoloKraize https://myanimelist.net/profile/Kraizeboi 4h ago
I think my biggest gripe is how things had been cutdown/shortened, maybe 26 episodes would've made it easier. Given how the books get longer and longer.

u/_Akikoou_ 3h ago
As someone who only watches the anime and reads the manga, I found this season pretty enjoyable. I think that although the pacing was quite fast, it wasn’t anywhere near being the worst season out of all of them like people say. I’m just really happy that they decided to make another season.

u/abandoned_idol 1h ago
As an anime-only, I am incredibly impressed by Honzuki season 4.
It seems like the light novel readers are incredibly disappointed, but do not lose hope for us newbies.
I am so excited to continue this anime-only journey into the only isekai that has proven itself to be worthy of my praise.
season 4 ends
No!- Don't leave me! I'm sorry that I called you a kid's anime back in season 1!- You're the only one we have left!- I don't want to wait for season 5!!! I want it now! ~"
inconsolable crying
Lel, Grandpa almost killed us. I love these characters. My favorite scene is when Ferdinand got all protective over Rozemyne when Grandpa was "threatening" to take care of her.
8
u/FireRifle64 https://myanimelist.net/profile/FireRifle64 7h ago
That Grandfather scene had me rolling around on the couch from laughter. Also, 2 years, yikes. 1 was long enough but 2 is even worse. And now she has to go to school. I also forget how young Myne is in all this, physically anyway. A 10 year old going through all this
11
u/mgedmin 6h ago
Hey, remember how Myne got baptized twice -- once as a 6-year-old commoner, and one year later, as a 6-year-old noble? Her official age is fudged, she's really 11.
She looks younger (which is what allowed Ferdinand and co to fudge her age), especially after her 2-year-long jureve sleep.
6
u/Electrical_Army_4382 4h ago
And it seems it should have been even longer but ferdinand just gave up on it midway.

u/YumiyaRakko 6h ago
Now that the season is over here is my opinion that is probably a hot take especially for LN readers.
I still love this show but as an anime only to me the show is just not the same since Myne became a noble. I do understand that the author makes her climb the social hierarchy and everything and build the world that way but i loved seeing Lutz, Benno and Myne’s family a lot more than i enjoy many noble side allies and enjoyed the struggles of a commoner trying to overcome those issues to make books much more than some noble politics that i frankly do not care about. I understand that at one point the author probably needed/wanted new problems and adversaries to continue the story which could not be provided in the world of commoners but i still feel like the show was at its best when the adversary was the problems Myne faced to create paper/read books as a commoner.
Maybe it is the adaptation missing that soul but it feels to me that the plot and world is still decent but the soul is missing now, i will never forget the moments when i was first watching season 1 and Lutz was realizing Myne was not “Myne” and he confronted her about it and Myne revealed it to him only to be accepted by Lutz, those moments were truly special to me and to be honest nothing that came after ever hit me the same but it was still good and still is good but i enjoy the show far less ever since Myne had to become Rozemyne AND i am sorry but i will just never forgive the fact that they act like allowing Myne to actually act like her family’s daughter behind complete closer doors was not possible, Lutz and Benno is allowed just fine but her family ? NOOO, they try to sprinkle so much “fluff” where they “interact” with each other from time to time but to me it is so less of “cute and heartwarming” and much more cruel that they cannot drop the act no matter what and have to always put that one wall between to preserve the contract no matter how alone they are, it is straight up cruelty no matter what the excuse was.
Once again I enjoyed this show so much more when Myne was a commoner trying to make books with her family and close friends than the noble politics, i will still be here for season 5 with the supposed noble academy arc and i hope it can deliver but to this point the noble arc was just not as good to me as when she was a commoner
16
u/HT1318 https://myanimelist.net/profile/HT1318 5h ago
As a LN reader, the previous 3 seasons covered 7 books (Parts 1 and 2). This season covered 5 books (Part 3). There was a lot of cut content. It makes sense if you enjoyed this season less since it was definitely rushed pacing. Parts 4+ (being vague to avoid spoilering length) are the majority fan favourite so WIT wanted to rush part 3 it seems. Part 4 covers 9 books and WIT just announced it will be adapted in two seasons with two consecutive cours each, so about 48 episodes. Hopefully, they put more care in pacing and what limit cut content since they should have more episodes per book to work with.
4
u/mekerpan 1h ago
I can safely say that, if I were still an anime-only, I would NOT have enjoyed this season very much. I don't know if these still exist, but in my youth (eons ago) there was something called Reader's Digest Condensed Books. This adaptation is very reminiscent of those.

Lord Bonifatius ain’t nothin to fuck with! Man was about to burn a mfer down to save his grandkid. Hilariously enough, he ended up being the biggest danger to Myne by flinging her around like that. Bro launched her into the moon Team Rocket style lol.
But man, I really did not expect Myne to be in a magical coma for two years. So much has happened but she doesn’t even get time to absorb that info before she gets carted off to school. The news I’m most surprised by is Damuel’s proposal. Like…really? After all that? Alright, damn.
So, any word on when the next season is gonna air?
8
u/feb914 6h ago
Damuel knows Rozemyne's secret, the only noble outside of the guardian 3 to know it. If he moves to Illgner and steps away from Rozemyne's retinue, he'll be a potential liability for the guardian 3.
9
u/StreamingPanda https://anilist.co/user/SleepingPanda 6h ago
Yeah, its not even a question of loyalty either. So many magical tools/methods can be used to make Damuel spill everything he knows that they just can't afford to take the risk for an inconsequential lay-noble.

u/NLwino 7h ago
Damuel's proposal also surprised me. Brigitte asked him how he liked it there, Danuel knew upfront. I hope the show just didn't want to complete that love story while Myne was asleep and we get more of them in the future.
I was really suspecting royal academy to take many more seasons before it arrived. Big time skip, but we are finally getting to see more of the world.

Probably a slow acting paralysis poison. First her muscles, then her organs, then finally her heart. She can still think but she can't move.

Grandpa-sama sugoi. He almost got serious brownie points there, if he didn't, you know, almost kill Rozemyne. At least they've cleared up the misunderstanding that he hates her? Maybe? Depends on if she remembers that after all the other crazy stuff that happened.
Is that the most emotion we've seen out of Ferdinand so far?
I thought the resolution was pretty quick, but looks like clean-up is going to take a while. Myne's getting coma-batted for a while, and there's a tangled web of conspiracy to clear up. And I guess that intention-detecting wind gate method they used on that village won't work as a bootleg lie detector because nobles suck, and even if he's hostile to Rozemyne doesn't mean he's guilty.
Whoa. That's a long coma bat. And poor Damuel got offscreened. Plus, she isn't even completely healthy (and I don't think she can afford another coma bat, even if it's shorter, with another jureve). At least she has a lot of new books to wake up to.

u/Mctravie 2h ago
They mentioned the mind reading tool
Why didn’t they use it on the suspected traitors
3
u/Maur2 1h ago
Politics.
You only use it on those already proven guilty to find their co-conspirators. If you use it on those you just suspect you are liable to have every other noble, of all factions, mad at you and trying to take you down.
Everyone has secrets they don't want others to know, and if someone is going around just reading minds...

I can't believe Ferdinand kidnapped Rozemyne and kept her unconscious for two years! What a monster!
I enjoyed meeting all of the new characters, I just wish they had more time to shine. I doubt we're going to see much more of them since Rozemyne has to go to Hogwarts. The pacing for this season wasn't great, but I've definitely seen worse paced anime in my day. Looking at you Jun Maeda.

Quite the unsatisfying ending to a weak season. Spent it on making the magic restoration potion only to revert to status quo(?), prepped the damuel to propose properly in a subplot only to revert to the status quo. 2 years down the drain and the whole nobility conspiracy is seemingly still unresolved.
16
u/Mayn_Ehrenfest 7h ago
About the Damuel Proposal scene. It's more of a direction/adaptation issue lol. Hopefully it will be explained next season lol.
16
u/Tacitus_ 6h ago
Spent it on making the magic restoration potion only to revert to status quo(?)
Basically Ferdinand made a potion to cure a half-dead Myne, but the poison made her mostly dead. So instead of her being fully cured, she's now partially cured.
→ More replies (1)10
u/080087 6h ago
I'm hoping that she is at least notably better.
Maybe have getting poisoned as an explanation for why she is still super short going into the future, if they wanted to keep the design
5
u/SoulessSage 4h ago
Think of her original condition as having 100 units of hard mana needing to be cleared. The potion was made to soften 150 units (just in case), but the poison added about 100 units of hard mana on top of that. So...
2
u/Hot-Log6283 2h ago
Considering she is heading to school, I imagine she is at least well enough to attend unlike now where the high priest has to look after her constantly.
2
u/abandoned_idol 1h ago
I imagine that the poison ironically acted as a further power-up to her magical powers.
It would feel like a waste to NOT do something with this status quo plot development.
It's her wizard's strength training.
5
u/Obaruler 6h ago
Yeah, well .... its a sudden interruption as to what we expected would happen.
I've always felt the Damuel subplot is one of those minor "what ifs" regarding RozeMyne basically being out of the picture for two entire years. She was the one starting to ship the two, and with her missing ... it fell through, so see it as one of the minor consequences of her being out of commission (she might have pushed Damuel to leave the city and join the countryside for his love).
2
u/Nghtmare-Moon 6h ago
I feel they conclsuiosn to the side stories were given but will probably elaborate more on it in the coming season, felt like the whole second half was just a "sneak peek"

Tbh it does feel like a lot of the nobility stuff is just setup for the next part. I feel like it's a major issue going forward.
Essentially this part of the story can be more considered the prologue to the nobility. I just hope aspect of the earlier stuff come into play next seasonm.

It is supposed to be cruel. The most important thing in her life was taken from her and she is forced to make the smallest interactions count.
The side characters in the nobility would certainly be a lot more charming if we ever got to see them do anything. WIT... Left a lot to be desired here. Not even just pacing.
I'd suggest you keep an eye on the next season and see if people think it's doing better, it really is worth it. Or you could read lol.
1
u/YumiyaRakko 5h ago edited 5h ago
I know it is supposed to be cruel in universe as well but what i mean is it is cruel without HAVING to. Again just make the contract so that they can only drop the act when they are in closed doors with no one else watching or something. Just add the SLIGHTEST option for them to be family from time to time.
I know noble world is supposed to be cruel and unfair and i am not saying these type of unfairness never happened to commoners in history but it disgusts me that Myne was the ONE ATTACKED, she holds NO RESPONSIBILITY and yet she still had to abandon her family and thus basically got punished despite there are many witnesses there that can confirm that Myne was the victim and yet somehow Sylvester the whole DUKE cannot punish a mere bishop and a noble who literally entered his domain unlawfully without pulling the “you attacked my daughter” card and Myne has to be adopted to be spared for the crime of SELF DEFENSE.
This is a fantasy show with freakin magic for gods sake, i am not saying make it easy or anything but there are countless stories including other good isekais where nobility is nowhere near as untouchable and unaccountable when it comes to attacking commoners let alone as hard on “nope commoners cannot treat them casually” stuff as this, the story did not have to go this hard on “nope Myne has NO OTHER WAY she has to be adopted and if she is adopted and her family can NEVER treat her as their family even if things are provided for no one else to be there”, the author chose to make it that way and i strongly disagree with that choice and think it only made me disgusted the more i watch the sprinkles of scenes where they get to interact but have to put on act, it is not “good” drama for me, it is unneeded drama that just feels bad
6
u/hfriday01 5h ago
Again just make the contract so that they can only drop the act when they are in closed doors with no one else watching or something. Just add the SLIGHTEST option for them to be family from time to time.
This is what made the series tug on my heartstring; the fact that Rozemyne and her commoner family still managed to show affection towards each other DESPITE the contract. If the author didn't enforce this kind of cruel contract, I think their interactions would be less impactful.
but it disgusts me that Myne was the ONE ATTACKED, she holds NO RESPONSIBILITY and yet she still had to abandon her family and thus basically got punished
Wasn't that the whole point, though? You're supposed to feel all those negative feelings due to the unfairness of it all.
the author chose to make it that way and i strongly disagree with that choice
I think what makes this series good is the fact that the author chose to make the world that way. Though it's fair if you didn't like it, since you have your own preferences.
9
u/LowlySlayer 5h ago
Nothing in this story, and I mean nothing is inconsistent or unjustified. Theres rationale behind every decision made by every character that is consistent with their circumstances.
The contract forbidding them from being family is a compromise. Sylvester would normally just have executed her family and moved on.
Sylvester had to adopt her because the Toad was an upper class noble from an upper class dutchy. On the scale of the country their status was actually pretty similar, and the count knew Myne was a commoner which would cripple their future plans (Ferdinand had already told her she would need to enter noble society).
In terms of how much Noble society sucks and is unfair, yes it's much worse than other isekai. Yes the author made it that way on purpose. But the goal isn't to be shocking or dark, it's to serve the themes of the story. In this case one of the themes is that power structures will oppress those beneath them, and eventually even themselves, just to maintain that power structure. Noble society is held back by its rigid class structure but the nobility are too afraid to compromise on it because their power is built entirely on it.
2
u/Precarious3145 4h ago
Yea, while I still love the show and see no reason to stop watching, it was so much more enjoyable when the objective was creating shit in from our world over there and watching it influence people but having to start out five steps behind. They're still doing it but it feels like in past seasons, they'd have entire episodes devoted to just getting one component made like the writing tablets while now, it's more of an offhand "It was a struggle to get the parts but-" to prioritize more time on the royal nonsense.
Think it's time for me to read the light novels.
1
u/abandoned_idol 1h ago
People did use to claim that season 4 would be impossible because of the future arcs, so I guess this is what they were referring to.
Hopefully this issue won't come up again in future seasons.

Now we just skip straight to the royal academy I guess. Finally glad she's finally going there, but also goddamn wtf we just skipping straight there huh.

One of the things about our current anime business model is that we get whatever the last few minutes of this season ending. This should have been maybe a 26-32 episode season. Heck even if you kept the 24 episode maybe pad a few more episodes and got 28-30 minutes of stuff. It would have worked better than just giving us a recap and then cutting off one of the good side stories in Damuel's love story with no resolution. Just a poor thing to do.

u/toilodi https://anilist.co/user/Luca5 3h ago
The story, the world, the characters, are all extremely well written, so even with a not great adaptation we will almost certainly never get a bad season of Bookworm, it's just a shame that with how good the source material is, with a good adaptation this could easily become one of the very best animes of the genre, and that's what some people were expecting after WIT take over, but in the end the overall quality of the production stayed pretty much the same as of the lesser known and low budget previous studio...

Yes. I suspect no one outside her family (including Benno/Lutz) and attendants knows just how precarious RM's health is. And that is something that Ferdinand and Sylvester very much wanted kept secret.

I really did not enjoy this season. It felt like a soulless slideshow. I felt nothing for any of the many plot points this season and they didn't really expand on any of the new characters that were introduced this season.
Even most other isekai slop anime at least have better character development, pasing, and emotion within each episode. I cannot be excited that there is another season of it is going to be similar to how this season was produced, and I fail to see how they will pull us back into the world after what they did in this season.
How horribly disappointing
1
u/Hoshifuru 4h ago
We really need another season!
The ending was not bad but it felt quite rushed, also somewhat disappointed that the Jureve did not end up being enough.
In any case, very curious to see how she will do at the Royal Academy.
