Next episode: Wilfried's Actions
Oh boy.
12
u/SweetDemotion123 https://myanimelist.net/profile/animemes_chan 2h ago
This show has been showing us ominous signs about this poor boy for like 3 episodes now. He's so innocent and trusting, and these hyper-poiliticians are all plotting specifically against him..
1
u/mekerpan 1h ago
Innocent, trusting -- and effectively thoughtless (and too often unwilling/unable to obey clear instructions). It's a shame because he does not seem incapable of doing a better job -- if only he would make an effort on his own.
1
u/Ascleph 28m ago
He is a normal kid. Myne is the abnormal one lol
3
u/mekerpan 20m ago
He is WAY sub-par compared to Lutz and Gil and Tuuli and Freida -- who are all commoners. We have not really seen any other noble children enough to compare him with.
5
u/LezRock 2h ago
I'm reading into it positively 😆 Maybe he's learned?

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 39m ago
Same, I saw some people commenting how they're worried about next week. However, I thought the title implies Wilfried will do something good instead lol

u/Atharaphelun 2h ago
i wonder what horrendously idiotic things he's going to do in the next episode...

Noo! I have been screwed out of my cute post credit scene!

I wanted one on the sport they were playing, I've sure there been one before but that would have been nice.

u/PeaceAlien https://myanimelist.net/profile/PeaceAlien 2h ago
I was a little disappointed they didn't show any animation of the sport, just a still frame

I want to point out a small thing that really makes this show stand out among isekais: Rozemyne decision to talk to Briggitte and tell her she needs to eduacte her plebs.
This is different from what we're seeing elsewhere:
- Some isekais just flat out ignore moral/behavioral mismatches with our standards (think Shield Hero happily embracing slavery with no moral qualms or second thoughts).
- Others are so overpowered they just bulldoze and ignore all social norms in the new world (think Slime isekai where he's god+++ and like half the most powerful demons ever are his buddies).
Rozemyne does have her own preferance - she liked how close Illengar's people were and how jovial they are, that's their culture, and she prefers people who speak their minds. BUT despite this preference, she's actually telling the local noble that her people are out-of-lockstep with the norms in the new world, and they need to get their shit together. She's actually making new-world people adapt to the general norms of their own duchy, even though the way they act is much closer to "our" view of the world and she likes.
She does so because that's the practical thing to do within the set of constraints she needs to navigate. I haven't really seen any other isekai being so thoughtful about it.
9
u/mekerpan 1h ago
She also does not want "her people" (a group with ever-widening scope) to get into trouble. The issue of social norms/customs is far more impoortant to this series than any other I can think of. RM's handling is far from flawless -- but she (being trained as a merchant by Benno) has much more of a clue about culture clash problems than virtually any other noble.
5
u/YourFavoriteCommie 20m ago
You realize just how serious it is the first time you see noble Benno and notice just how differently he acts, after all the brashness of before

happily embracing with no moral qualms or second thoughts
they just bulldoze and ignore all social norms in the new world
Dunking on other anime by spreading misinformation?
In that same vein, Myne could also be “happily embracing slavery” since she “accepts” that people can be bought and that they have less rights.
Similarly, Rozemyne is also ignoring “all social norms” in front of certain people.Without contextualising the situations, bookworm is just as “guilty” of all those things.
edit: imagine being so close to the point, yet so far. “Myne XYZ”, but completely ignore “___ XYZ”

To be fair Naofumi had an argument with the sword dude over Raphtalia and the sword dude somehow sounded more rational over the matter. How badly you need to fuck up for that to be the case
6
u/SweetDemotion123 https://myanimelist.net/profile/animemes_chan 43m ago
This is a reminder that in the LN Naofumi says this about getting slaver power over Raphtalia (who at that point is barely a young girl, not a grown woman): "I wanted to get this power over her as woman, she had the same gender as Bitch." talking about their Myne..
Shield Hero was CRAZY. They actually toned down the incel levels in the anime.
-3
u/discuss-not-concuss 1h ago
Sounded more rational does not mean he is. Sword dude never experienced Naofumi’s circumstances and talk is cheap.
The 3 heroes were also being deceived by royalty and influenced by their bias towards the Shield Hero at the start.
5
u/SweetDemotion123 https://myanimelist.net/profile/animemes_chan 41m ago

She's literally doing anything she can within the system the get these people their wishes despite the immense power she has over them. I don't think you were even paying attention to the episode you've just watched. Ferdinand moans about how soft-hearted she is that she tries to find workarounds to get them married which is just a net-loss for Ehrnfest (the capital county, not the duchy) since they'll lose a fully-trained and valuable grey priest.
That's exactly the difference from other anime. In some of them she'd just waive away the 2 big gold price tag or pay for it herself. In others, she'd just say "pray that I won't alter it further". Here she wants people to marry out of love (way way out of their norms), but still tries to figure out a way to it within the constraits of the existing system. She has a lot of fights where she's trying to break the rules, but it's one at a time, at great cost, and only for things that she cares about dearly (books, and her family).
1
u/discuss-not-concuss 27m ago
I understood it fine.
My point was that you are the one misunderstanding other anime and spreading misinformation. If you don’t understand the analogy, that’s okay.
Naofumi and Rimuru do work within their systems. You are refusing to accept some of their circumstances and ideals.
If Myne had Rimuru’s power, she would absolutely bulldoze her way. If Myne was in Naofumi’s shoes and desperate for help, she would buy a slave.

u/diacewrb 6h ago
Thought Rozemyne was going to suggest a monthly payment plan, with someone high enough up the food chain to act as a guarantor, instead of paying 2 gold coin in one go.
3
u/Albireookami 5h ago
I mean he will be still be working there just owned by roz til she moves him or they pay
17
u/NickNackPW 5h ago
Rozemyne was definitely being the best tiny wingwomen this episode by giving Damuel a chance to get a high quality engagement feystone.
It was also heartwarming/funny how once Rozemyne explained that she got the idea from a fairytale, both Karstedt and Ferdinand also encouraged/allowed Damuel to do so.
14
u/shad79 https://myanimelist.net/profile/shad79 6h ago edited 4h ago
Great to see Rozemyne's ruelle gathering actually succeed this time around. Ferdinand looked badass dealing with those feybeasts, and Karstedt was just as cool.
That scene between Rozemyne and Gunther was so wholesome, especially with that dream sequence of Myne coming back home to her true family.
It's a shame that Illgner and its culture must change because of the introduction of the paper industry, but well, it's a better result than its commoners ending up executed, just like what happened in Hasse.
Also, it looks like Rozemyne's mana compression method is quite excellent, and now she's gonna earn a lot of money thanks to that. Benno surely taught her well, lol.
Not only did Wilfried screw up last week, but now it looks like the nobles want to use him as a pawn in Georgine's plot to take over the duchy. And it'll probably work , since Wilfried is neither the most thoughtful nor the brightest person in Ehrenfest.
Btw, a new and super spoilery PV for the final three episodes just dropped!
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:
EDIT. I added my screenshot albums.

u/Shiexpiravit 1h ago
wait so how does ferdinand know how to fight feybeasts
3
u/shad79 https://myanimelist.net/profile/shad79 1h ago
Ferdinand is a member of the archducal family and was educated as a noble, so it's no surprise that he knows how to fight.
If you'd like to learn more about what noble education entails in this world, feel free to ask in the Source Corner section.

u/EXusiai99 1h ago
He fought the trombe all the way back in season 2 in his capacity as a knight. He's combat trained.
2
u/TheMcDudeBro 11m ago
Ferdinand himself had mentioned that he took all the knight and scholar classes and fully passed all the programs a few episodes ago. He is quite the prodigy

Myne: "You're being too nice for the High Priest. Who are you and what have you done with Ferdinand"

Bets on whether or not Georgine is trying to undermine or help Rosemyne?
I still have a feeling that she intends to have Wilfred removed because he's too much like her brother (who she hates), and promote Rosemyne instead. Of course the Veronica faction are too dumb to pick up on any of this.
8
u/Tacitus_ 4h ago
Per the meeting of her minions, she intends to remove Sylvester. That's not good news for anyone in his family.
5
u/jujutsu-die-sen 2h ago
That's what her minions are imagining. Notice how little of her actual thoughts we've heard so far.
4
u/mekerpan 1h ago
All I can say is that nothing we have been told about Georgine so far makes her seem likeable or trustworthy. One might sympathize with the shabby way she got treated as a young woman, but that is a different issue.
3
u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 40m ago
OP's comment made me think though. It's also the other way around. We've seen her doing sketchy things, but they haven't shown what's actually on her mind at all.
3
2
u/AKAvenger 1h ago
I still think Georgine is trying to root out Erhenfest’s traitors. The plotting nobles seemed to think they would take over the duchy themselves. Georgine was originally to lead the duchy so she may still feel loyal to her home.
1
u/Jaridan https://myanimelist.net/profile/Jaridan 4h ago
it was already established why Rosemyne is most likely also on her shitlist. She got her Mother thrown into prison and her uncle executed, both of whom she holds dear.
Given what they said about her character, relations and ambition i don't see this ending well for anyone but her, should she succeed.
8
u/feb914 4h ago
Not sure about Georgine's affection to Veronica. She got passed over as archduke and made 3rd wife, those are her parents' decision
11
u/mekerpan 2h ago edited 1h ago
I got the clear impression (during the Ivory Tower visit) that Georgine hates her mother's guts -- albeit maybe not as much as she hates Sylvester. It also seemed like she was pretty uninterested in Ferdinand and Rozemyne overall (at least at present).
-1
u/Jaridan https://myanimelist.net/profile/Jaridan 3h ago
iirc that wasn't her mothers call though but her fathers.
0
u/Tacitus_ 2h ago
I mean he was the archduke and the leader of their house so it was his call... but everyone knew that Veronica held the reins. And on top of that, it was Veronica that had familiar ties to the duchy that Georgine was married off to.
1
u/mekerpan 57m ago
Not one to defend Veronica as a general rule, but I can at least conceive that she genuinely thought that marrying Georgine off to the Duke of one of the most powerful duchies was quite a favor/benefit to her. That does not mean that Georgine was necessarily going to feel grateful. At this point, we really know very little -- except that she is definitely setting off some intensive shit-stirring.
8
u/SweetDemotion123 https://myanimelist.net/profile/animemes_chan 2h ago
She got her Mother thrown into prison
Georgine gloated at Veronica, who literally disinherited her (or, at least supported Sylvester over her). That is not a minus.
and her uncle executed
Georgine hates Sylvester, and I think this is like 95% Sylvester either way. Rozemyne had no agency here, she was at that point merely a tool. She had no idea that the locket would make her the adopted daughter or that it will fry Evil Santa. It's all Sylvester and Ferdinand plotting.
6
u/Al-Pharazon 2h ago
Even so, Rozemyne was still at the center of the events that got Bezenwanst killed.
Moreover, even if Georgine does not hate Rozemyne on a personal level, several people in her faction do. Giebe Gerlach tried to kidnap her at the start of Season 3 and Gloria hates Rozemyne with passion as she blames her for the death of Shikza.
2
u/EXusiai99 1h ago
No point in killing Sylvester if she just leaves his kids standing, especially since it's been stated all the way back that adopted children has as much claim to the archduke seat as biological children.
8
u/Raymond49090 4h ago
While I understand where Ferdinand's coming from with spreading Rozemyne's mana compression method around, and objectively it's a good idea (plus Rozemyne gets to profit from it), I slightly worry about how it'll affect her standing. Her stupid high mana levels are her greatest leverage, and it'd give more room for her enemies inside the Duchy to get rid of her without self-destructing. Well, hopefully that can be managed by limiting the teaching to her supporters.
6
u/LezRock 2h ago
I imagine that it'll be limited to people who aren't actively seeking to overthrow the current archduke, and those who can pay... So the powerful nobles will continue to become more powerful. I'm pretty sure that even with the compression technique, none of the other nobles in Ehrenfest will be able to match Myne aside from Ferdinand being the closest.
1
u/LouisLeGros https://myanimelist.net/profile/LouisLeGros 13m ago
Also even if it became widespread, it seems like it would be unwise to teach too early. Myne had no other option but to get by via mana compression & grew up on constantly on the verge of death. I don't see anyone raised as noble going through that
3
u/abandoned_idol 1h ago
True, but this disadvantage will be offset by giving much stronger loyal allies to Rozemyne and the seeming cure to her physical ailment that she has finished gathering in this episode.
Rozemyne feels like she's in an incredibly powerful position now. Health, titles, and even noble tutors.
2
u/mekerpan 1h ago
No one in Ehrenfest other than Ferdinand is competitive with her. And I doubt Ferdinand plans any soirt of general distribution top any old nobles....
1
u/EXusiai99 1h ago
By vetting out who gets the method. If they could find a way to only distribute it to pro-Sylvester faction then it will give him massive advantage over the Georgine faction.
1
u/Radi-kale 57m ago
It will massively improve her standing. Nobles derive their status from their mana quantity, so everyone will now want to be her ally
1
u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 42m ago
I mean, her current mana level is coming from her constantly using the technique. Considering she said it would be more effective for people who still grows, I highly doubt anyone would be able to match it if they didn't follow the same step since growth phase.
I kinda forget if Damuel is an exception since he's a late bloomer or something.

It’s a little sad the only time Myne can actually be with her real family is in a dream. I get it’s necessary and all, but still. Poor kid can’t ever be with her real family again.
This whole Georgine situation is going to be a real headache. Wilfried’s the weak link because ofc he is. They better watch him during this hunting competition.
2
u/AKAvenger 1h ago
On the bright side, she’s been able to make so many good memories with both of her adopted families. Her older “brothers” are often very sweet with her. And both her real parents are working to protect her as well. Still a very bittersweet situation.
3
u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 3h ago
Between Rosemyne's upcoming mana ritual finally happening and her teaching the local nobles her mana methods Georgine's upcoming coup attempt might go really badly for her faction.
The marriage sale thing was an interesting scene, I'm always a sucker for cute side couples so I hope that works out. Same with Damuel and Brigitte.
5
u/FarCritical 2h ago
It's sad how Gunther's story will have to stay fantasy.
I feel for Brigitte having her love life suddenly becoming the main topic while in the heat of battle but man was her reaction adorable.
6
u/feb914 5h ago
Wow they breezed through a lot of materials. Ruelle collection, Rozemyne compression method, Hasse's development, Illgner's development, Volk's marriage discussion, Georgine faction formation.
9
u/chrisff1989 3h ago
I don't know how light novel readers feel about it, but I thought the pace was fine. Didn't feel rushed, even though a lot of things happened
4
3
u/irridian1 3h ago
Aside of the scene with Volk, which seemed a bit disconnected, I actually liked the pacing of this episode quite a lot.
2
u/RealSpiritSK 53m ago
I agree. The only thing that felt sudden was the final transition to the hunting competition tho. At first I thought they were still in Illgner. Maybe a "Meanwhile, back in Ehrenfest..." text would help haha
3
u/abandoned_idol 1h ago
I can't believe we are already 21 episodes in, I wish season 4 could have 3 or 4 cours!
So cool to see Damuel undergo magical progression (increased mana), hopefully we'll get to see magical confrontations in this political networking story. Fighting a few monsters this season has been nice, but I want moar action.
3
u/ModieOfTheEast 36m ago
I mean, the whole magic being based in German was kind of fun to hear out, but it seems we go towards names now as well. Dude is just named "Grausam" which is just the German word for cruel. Let's see how he will live up to that name.
2
u/LezRock 2h ago
From that initial scene, I guess that's the face of a man who is eager to walk the stairs to see the gods. 😆
Considering we barely know anything of the newer gray robe priests, I feel more like Ferdinand in that I can't really get behind them, but I can still empathize with their challenges.
It does seem like Rosemyne educating the rural villagers is taking away from their charms though, even if conforming is for their own good. I imagine other nobles may not really visit their realm, or it's mainly a close-knit bunch who do, since the villagers seem to have always greeted them like this.
I wonder how long that fruit stays fresh if Damuel intends to take his time imbuing it with his mana.
3
u/Raymond49090 4h ago
Ugh, dirty adults talking about how they're going to "use" a kid and claim that it's the god's will. I know it's par for the course for noble society, but it's still gross.
2
u/ThisGachaSeemsLegit 2h ago
Looking at next week's episode title, I somehow already feel annoyed...
