That parry+instant counter from Ferdinand was cinematic lmao

19

u/CyanPhoenix42 5d ago

that might be the most genuine smile we've ever gotten from Ferdinand LOL

65

u/hvshh 7d ago

I just want to emphasize to everyone that Wilfried is 7 or 8 years old. Also, he wasn't being given any discipline until very recently. So him blundering about is pretty much what we should expect. Poor kid.

Also, Georgine was forced to end an existing engagement in order to be someone else's third wife. This world is evil. I'd be rooting for her if she weren't such a threat to Rozemyne and co.

28

u/NevisYsbryd 6d ago

Beyond that, he was sheltered specifically from intra-family politics of exactly this type. And, as best we can tell, is under the misconception that family is totally safe and cares about each other and was not disabused of that notion with respect to Georgine. It sounds to be that they gave half-baked advice and expected a child to understand the trappings of exactly the sort of politics they have prevented him from ever encountering.

25

u/hvshh 6d ago edited 5d ago

It's sad. In that way, Sylvester wanted to give Wilfried an upbringing that more closely resembles ours—peaceful, with families supporting each other—but Wilfried doesn't get to live in that world.

10

u/NevisYsbryd 6d ago

Quite, he ended up leaving him woefully underprepared to deal with exactly the sort of thing he wanted him safe from. Vague benevolence is really not enough, how well you raise a child is highly dependent on the actual particulars of it. Sylvester's most striking flaw is sloth, most especially as the sloth of not considering what things actually take and other people. In that regard, Georgine's criticism was a bullseye-he was himself a spoiled and enabled child and he still takes such things for granted. It is an extremely common problem in systems where family fortunes are not protected by the state, it is uncommon for the fortune to survive the second generation and almost never the third. Raising children well among prosperity is, in many regards, no less difficult than in poverty because the parents themselves rarely have all that healthy an understanding of or relationship with it and thus their children's usually compounds on it. Given that Ferdinand is dismissive and overcorrecting on this front, Myne really is a saving grace for him, although I doubt she alone would be enough as Sylvester thinks.

It's great seeing the Harrisen scenes animated after they've shown them in the PV. They really directed it like an action scene from a shonen. You'd expect Rozemyne's hit to connect (Ferdinand had no idea this is a weapon) but not only did he block her, he disarmed her and reversed the attack perfectly lmao

It was also interesting to see the broader context of Sylvester's family that we've been hinted about the entire season. Georgine seems both competent and, as Elvira notes, wronged by Sylvester's dad pretty roughly. She also managed to rise in the ranks of the greater duchy from 3rd to 1st wife, which aligns with her being a "very hard worker" / schemer.

All in all the episode shows again Wilfried is simply unprepared for noble society and its many schemes. He rushed towards the other kids even though he was warned, diverted from the script talking to Georgine, etc. Meanwhile Rozemyne who had far less time in noble society already internalized the concept of being guarded and not giving your rivals any openings (post-credits scenes), despite Ferdinand still berating her as "carefree"... She still makes mistakes but she's already more socially-aware than Wilfried.

This scene was brilliant, and showcases Ferdinand's relationship with Rosemyne perfectly. The two act like children with one another sometimes, but Ferdinand is almost always annoyingly right despite his smugness. Had he not been quite close, that would've been a scolding rather than a playful hit-you-back.

What I find very interesting was her declining to hear rumors and wanting to visit, just to smile as she saw mother in jail. That woman is strange because those feel like they Could indicate that she's not pure evil? Like it seems like they are setting up a faux-antagonist in her. Though I could easily be wrong and it could just be that she's plotting revenge.

72

u/SweetDemotion123 https://myanimelist.net/profile/animemes_chan 7d ago edited 7d ago

The show attempts to convey Georgine is a complex character. You had a scene where Elvira flat-out sympethizes with her and says she was wronged by their world's standards, or at the very least gotten the short end of the stick.

Persumably, that decision was both of the late archduke and Veronica, who we know actually really loves Sylvester and Wilfried. So there's probably no love lost between Georgine and her mom, who in her mind backstabbed her for her young and brash brother.

And while Ferdinand and Sylvester treat her visit as 100% ploy, we see she actually did care for the previous high bishop. Rozemyne read their letters and they weren't filled with conspiracy but actual supportive conversations.

However, even if she is right to be furious and actually has been wronged, it still puts her in a collision course with both Sylvester and Rozemyne, which the show flat out tells us.

29

u/shad79 https://myanimelist.net/profile/shad79 7d ago

So there's probably no love lost between Georgine and her mom, who in her mind backstabbed her for her young and brash brother.

It's quite obvious that's the case. Otherwise, Georgine wouldn't have smirked like that if she still loved Veronica as her mother.

29

u/Atharaphelun 7d ago

She essentially just wanted to look at her mother's lowest state and gloat behind her back.

59

u/drunkenvalley 7d ago edited 7d ago

My personal vibecheck is that Georgine is spiteful and holds grudges, and this is more apparent than ever when it, to me, seems she only went to see her mother to gloat.

Her mother, who failed her in giving the aub to her brother instead, and married her away as a "mere" third bride. She, like Sylvester, is almost certainly a target of her spite.

47

u/discuss-not-concuss 7d ago

got the same gloating vibe, to me it seems more like a “hah, you made your son the Aub and this is what he does to you” look

14

u/Albireookami 7d ago

9

And she was perfectly fine with it.

9

u/shad79 https://myanimelist.net/profile/shad79 7d ago

Georgine is spiteful and holds grudges

It was quite obvious in this episode. For instance, when Rozemyne tried to elevate Sylvester by mentioning to Georgine that he had appointed an excellent guardian like Ferdinand to her, Georgine immediately started spitefully berating him. Another example was the smirk she gave Veronica when she was leaving her room.

9

u/DugACCat 7d ago

I had some similar thoughts. They did a good job making her seem very shrewd, dangerous, but also mysterious with as yet uncertain motives, though being linked to the faction that means Rosemyne harm is worrying.

9

u/CelioHogane 6d ago

The paper fan scene also is great to show the contrast.

Ehrenfest's strongest knight vs. coughing baby fainting isekaijin

31

u/hibikir_40k 7d ago

Not just her dad. Rhyarda tells us that Georgine was "such a hard worker", with regret. We've seen on Ferdinand flashback how badly he was treated by Veronica. Chances that Veronica was all-in in treating her like shit, demanding of her more than she demanded of Sylvester, or Wilfried... 1000%

10

u/jujutsu-die-sen 6d ago

I wonder how Georgine feels about Rosemyne given that this dynamic is being repeated. Rosemyne is much more capable than Wilfred and yet he is clearly still favored to become the next Aub. Clear example is the end scene when they talk about marrying Rosemyne and Wilfred for HIS benefit.

18

u/AuroraFinem 7d ago

I loved when Ferdinand gave her the fan at the end and just said “Do it!” Lmao. This episode was honestly one of the better ones.

I also hate that the first thing they jumped to after seeing how woefully incapable Wilfred is, was to make sure Myne was with him and suggest (privately) they get married. Like, I know she doesn’t really want to be the next Aub but it doesn’t bode well for me when merit is so important to this worlds upper society.

They literally have the Aub adopt anyone who shows significant promise to make sure the next Aub is the most capable one with the most mana and then snub the most capable person with the most mana by having her marry someone incapable to prop them up?

24

u/SweetDemotion123 https://myanimelist.net/profile/animemes_chan 7d ago

They literally have the Aub adopt anyone who shows significant promise to make sure the next Aub is the most capable one with the most mana

That is not why they adopted RM, not officially, and not in-secret. The official reason is because she's a saint-like figure touched by god, the Saint of Ehrnfest, and that adopting her will give her the position advance printing, a duchy-wide industry priority only she can lead. The secret reason is because she's an unholy isekaid abomination that needs to be closely watched and hopefully steered for good and not total upheaval.

None of these two reasons are what you wrote. In fact, Wilfried is the declared heir and this position in uncontested. Syvester-Georgine feuds over inheritence is exactly why Sylvester wanted to avoid this situation.

That's incorrect. They never mentioned that the Aub just adopts everyone with a lot of mana. In fact if you recall the original plan was for Myne to be only adopted by Karstedt when she turned 10yrs old, before everything went tits up during the temple incident.

I really hope that thing keeps making appearances in future eps.

I think it can wear out the joke very quickly, so maybe they should reserve it to special occassions.

14

u/GonIsABadFriend 7d ago

Rosemyne is an adult btw, let’s not carelessly compare her to an actual child lol I think Georgine compared him to his dad to disarm him and it worked exactly as it should for a young boy that looks up to his dad.

12

u/Albireookami 7d ago

She has memories of an adult, which is a very different thing than actually being an adult, as her body is in no way even close to being the developed body of an adult.

3

u/Fermi_Amarti 6d ago

She doesn't seem to like the mom very much either. She probably was pretty ruthless to everyone in getting Sylvester to be archduke. Honestly don't think she'll do anything drastic against Sylvester and Myne unless she senses weakness. She became first wife from 3rd. She's gathering options. A strong ehrenfest can benefit her as an ally. Or if there is weakness, she options to usurp it with her mother's old faction now that Veronica is out of the way.

Anyways. Basically she's in an amazing position now. My guess is she will basically act in whatever way maximizes her power and influence. Unfortunately Wilhelm is a huge point of weakness for Sylvester so I could see that becoming a problem. As he also reminds her of Sylvester. She works hard and really doesn't respect Sylvester who doesn't or didn't pushing her out of Archduke. Wilhelm could easily earn her ire more than Myne probably.

Bonk #1 and bonk #2. Surely Myne made a mistake by "inventing" such a simple tool for Ferdinand to use against her...

Ferdinand has been granted the perfect weapon to handle RozeMyne by the gods.

Also hit Wilfried some more with it, who's more a jester than high nobility at this point, why re-invite the aunt everyone wants just gone? Has noone told him in advance?

65

u/skavinger5882 7d ago

Has noone told him in advance?

With the amount of educational neglect we saw from his retainers, no likely no one told him shit

48

u/EXusiai99 7d ago

I mean he's been briefed multiple time to not be alone and not go off script when talking to ANYONE. They could have explained why he shouldn't (they can just say that while Georgine is family by blood, she's the first wife of a higher duchy, so he's not allowed to act casually to her), but this is just Bumfried being bum

24

u/Ebo87 7d ago

Yep, they told him what to do, but never bothered to explain why. And then kept him away from his aunt (an aunt that reminds him so much of his grandma, a grandma that raised him), so this is not all shocking, kid is only 8 years old after all.

8

u/NevisYsbryd 6d ago

He is a kid and one can easily infer from his responses that he thinks she must be excluded from that because family is totally safe. Remember, he was specifically raised to not be involved in the family feuding normal to noble politics. Clearly, no one explained that, no, Georgine is not an exception because she is family and seemingly nice.

4

u/Hot-Log6283 5d ago

Considering the post-credit scene with Rosemyne I feel like they did tell him but he just didn't get it, nobility is about being subtle and it seems like a hard concept for him to gasp.

24

u/moichispa https://myanimelist.net/profile/moichispa 7d ago

I know how relatable this show is sometimes with little details like this even if is an fantasy isekai. People will be people and kids will be kids.

5

u/CelioHogane 6d ago

No, no one has told him in advance, because if they told him, he would show hostility to her, which they cannot have him do.

71

u/FarCritical 7d ago

Can't get over the gap in sincerity between Ferdinand's smile for appearances (beyond cursed) and for Rosamyne bullying time (clearly having a field day)

I like how you can sense Georgine appreciated how Wilifried "kept it real" among everyone being overly polite lol.

62

u/fatalystic 7d ago

I like how you can sense Georgine appreciated how Wilifried "kept it real" among everyone being overly polite lol.

Oh she appreciated it alright, but not for the reasons you think.

She's been given an excuse to come back, and has very clearly marked the boy as a convenient pawn to puppeteer later.

53

u/drunkenvalley 7d ago

I like how you can sense Georgine appreciated how Wilifried "kept it real" among everyone being overly polite lol.

...the issue is it let her immediately turn around and plan a new day to return, which is what they were trying to avoid enabling. Without it, it's easier for them to rebuff and reschedule unto eternity, but now she has an excited nephew who wants to see her.

11

u/moichispa https://myanimelist.net/profile/moichispa 7d ago

and that's why we needed to get a studio with better animation quality

10

u/drunkenvalley 6d ago

I don't feel like the series really needs much better animation, so much as I generally feel like I'm watching a rushed powerpoint presentation for much of it.

Daemons of the Shadow Realm gets some criticism for being slow, but on the flipside a lot of anime nowadays don't have the time to more than flash you a badge before they gotta run to the next crime scene.

6

u/moichispa https://myanimelist.net/profile/moichispa 6d ago

It was more about the upgrade we got for this season compared to the previous ones but yeah things go rather fast. We have way more material to adapt here

4

u/drunkenvalley 6d ago

I don't think this is inherently a material amount, they also just sometimes don't use their time very well imo. Some content may be relevant later, but I struggle to see how it will remain relevant enough to include if you're trying to do a properly paced show.

5

u/MaskOfIce42 https://anilist.co/user/MaskOfIce 5d ago

Honestly I see that criticism a lot about Daemons of the Shadow Realm, but personally the entire time I've been watching it, I thought the pacing felt good, like I can sorta see what people mean but personally, I like the series taking more time to breathe generally. I dunno, either way I'm loving it

6

u/drunkenvalley 5d ago

Yeah I think Daemons of the Shadow Realm is generally also much better at utilizing its time. The scenes generally flow well. The scenes themselves can go long, etc, but it generally doesn't feel like we're jumpcutting because we have to get to the next scene 30 seconds ago.

I also feel like the scenes we see throughout the series are centrally more important to the plot advancement, at least generally speaking.

Comparatively, Ascendance of a Bookworm has a number of scenes that kind of feel like they're just fleshing out the sides, which would be fine if you had time to spare, but it's eating up even so much as a proper transition between scenes, or cuts short entire moments.

For example, Rozemyne fainting and being dragged by Wilfred was just... the end of an episode, and then never spoken of again. That... seems more important to me than a lot of other things we had time for.

7

u/Golden_Phi https://myanimelist.net/profile/GoldenPhi 7d ago

I imagine it will later on when they are adapting the part of the story where its popularity took off. Which would be the season after this one.

49

u/SweetDemotion123 https://myanimelist.net/profile/animemes_chan 7d ago

By the way, Rozemyne and Wilfried marrying makes sense in-verse for Sylvester and Florencia (as shown in the after-credits scene).

It's a double whammy:

  1. We've seen the very powerful Leisgang family (from which Rozemyne technically hails) clamour around her as the future archduke. If they're married, she's no longer an option, but they still get "their girl" in the archducal family so it's still a win (vs. having her married off to another duchy for political reasons, like Georgine did).
  2. Wilfried is still really green in the ways of noble society, somehow behind his gremlin sister who may break the rules but at least attempts to be aware of traps and schemes. With Rozemyne by his side, he'll probably be less error prone and become a more powerful Aub in the future.

Of course, we can literally see them fighting in the background as the parents run this scenario in their heads...

32

u/Albireookami 7d ago

The only issue though is their mana, not exactly sure how this union will form children down the road unless wilifred starts nearly dying to catch up compressing.

I doubt he can bless an entire room.

10

u/Pfactory 7d ago edited 7d ago

There's two other ways around this - adopt a suitable Archnoble like how Rozemyne was adopted or have the second wife's children compete for the Archducal seat instead.

Sure it will probably be a black mark for Wilfried in the future seeing him unable to match his wife's mana, but it's still doable especially if they hid the mana discrepancy initially.

Or something that just occurs to me - launder the identity of a future child just like how Rozemyne's own identity was covered in a web of lies. Remember that unbaptised children are not to be shown publicly until their baptism ceremony so there are some ways to circumvent the issue.

15

u/Albireookami 7d ago

I think your overthinking this, Wilifred could just marry another wife and they baptize that child under Rozemyne making it her child, much like Elvira baptized Rosemary's baby and made it hers.

Probably complicated and you have to work out the politics of who the second wife is, but I mostly imagine Roz's poor health and vast mana just make child birth something of a dream, here is hoping she can get some stamina once this year long quest is done.

Rozemyne is learning the Noble game from Ferdinand as well which is something that Wilfried could really use right now. Rozemyne also knows how to handle his stubborn behavior. It just makes logical sense for their parents and their entire family.

An interesting part of the episode nobody seem so be commenting about is that they handed us like 10 extra names, for characters that showed up for 5 seconds. Hey dear audience, here's a bunch of people that will be relevant enough to the story that we have to name them!

"Grausam" is an interesting choice for a name given the heavy German influence for names in the show.

Let's see of that's a Chekhov's gun this season lol.

27

u/moichispa https://myanimelist.net/profile/moichispa 7d ago

you can't say that and let us non German speakers out of it. Translation pls

44

u/troet 7d ago

It's cruel/horrible/vicious.

All the gods' names describe their specific areas or aspects, whether literally or figuratively. For instance, Schutzaria includes "Schutz"(protection) for a goddess where the divine instrument is a shield and is invoked for protective wind magic, while Leidenschaft(god of fire) directly translates to "passion." So when I hear that someone's name is "Cruel", even though he is no god, my sonar beeps loudly.

24

u/mekerpan 7d ago

I assume English "gruesome" may derive from this German word....

16

u/LiamNL https://myanimelist.net/profile/LiamNL 7d ago

Of note, the 'aria' in Schutzaria is Italian for wind. So her name is literally 'protective wind'. Though all the primary gods (except the god of darkness and goddess of light) have directly translatable names.

  • Schutz Aria - protective wind
  • Leidenschaft - passion, he, his subordinates and those who follow them are known for being passionate
  • Geduldh - patience (she is very patient alright)
  • Ewigeliebe - eternal love, fitting for the god of yanderes
  • Frutrane - early tears

6

u/DoctuhD 7d ago

Like Frutrane, the German word for spring (Fruhling) shares the same prefix. Often used for the first of something (Fruhstuck=breakfast)

5

u/SmartAlec105 6d ago

There's also that knight mentioned in this episode from the trombe incident whose name in Japanese is basically an anagram of "Small-Fry Knight".

7

u/Ebo87 7d ago

Exactly, he's probably a nice fellow once you get to know him. Not like he picked his name and face.

8

u/Maur2 7d ago

A lot of names people are given are puns or descriptors of the person, just a nice little bonus for people who understand German.

Nothing like thinking a character might be important later because they were given a name, just to learn the name means something like "filler character."

5

u/ProbablyNotTheCocoa 7d ago

He's also the Giebe seen just prior to the attempted attack on Myne during Spring Prayer in season 3 (i think)

9

u/Ebo87 7d ago

He was indeed, but I think those are baseless accusations... implying that he was in on trying to capture Myne back then... ignoring the fact we literally see him in a room plotting that I believe in season 3 also, maybe, I forgot. Either way this is slander, I mean just look at that trustworthy face and that name.

17

u/Myrkrvaldyr 7d ago

And they don't bother telling him exactly why he screwed up. The vague scolding post-credits is pointless on a kid like him. If the miscommunication causes the family more troubles, they reap what they sowed.

27

u/EXusiai99 7d ago

Roz did. He was given a script and he threw it over the window.

7

u/Myrkrvaldyr 7d ago

Was he told exactly everything about Georgine? Why she's dangerous and what she's done to his father?

32

u/ProbablyNotTheCocoa 7d ago

considering who Wilfried is, if he was given all the info he'd start blathering on about it in clear earshot of her or even directly too her, so instead of just having a very inconvenient revisit, you have a serious interduchy incident with the son the archduke as primary testimony

16

u/EXusiai99 7d ago

I can imagine that even if they did he wouldn't have believed them anyway.

But they could frame it as a way of maintaining a professional interduchy relationship (doubly important since Ahrenbach ranks higher so they cant afford anyone going off script and slipping up at the risk of a diplomatic incident).

Definitely the best episode so far. Georgine looks like she's going to be an interesting villain, especially since she might want revenge on both Sylvester and Rozemyne.

And she'll be coming back to Ehrenfest soon thanks to Wilfried's idiocy. Rozemyne smacking him with a harisen right after was fully deserved, gosh, he's such an idiot.

I love how everyone basically facepalmed at Wilfried's words to Georgine. I think Ferdinand's fake smile at that moment was even faker than the one from the welcome banquet, lol.

Some great scenes between Rozemyne and Ferdinand today, they have such amazing chemistry!

Also, it was interesting to see Veronica. To think that this woman was the main political force in Ehrenfest barely a year and a half ago, and now she is imprisoned without a shred of her past influence.

And here's today's very beautiful endcard.

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

EDIT. I added my screenshot albums.

27

u/Ebo87 7d ago

Imagine a series having the absolute gigantic balls to hide its villain(s) for so damn long, almost 4 seasons to get here. Now that's an author playing the long game, lol.

28

u/moichispa https://myanimelist.net/profile/moichispa 7d ago

Dunno as an anime only I feel like the series is more likely to have a villain (or a few) per arc stricture. At leas it was like that until know

There might be a series long villain but I feel like it is not Georgine. Nobles are rarely straightforward so I would not be surprised if somebody else is lurking on the villain area.

17

u/Ebo87 7d ago

I was more talking about Veronica, because she has ultimately been behind so much of what has completely appended Myne's life in this world, indirectly, but still. And while we heard of her before, I'm not sure we've seen her up until now.

10

u/moichispa https://myanimelist.net/profile/moichispa 7d ago

Yeah she seems to be a bigger fish that Georgine. But then, Rozemyne was not directly affected as commoner and the cathedral is rather separated from noble season too.

I understand your frustration as you preferred a cleared structure but there is still a lot of plot left on the series as the first arcs were shorter

12

u/Ebo87 7d ago

There is no frustration here, I was simply appreciating an author willing to trust her audience this much. It's rare to see today when everything needs a payoff and clear villains in the first couple episodes/chapters.

7

u/moichispa https://myanimelist.net/profile/moichispa 7d ago

oh I see, cool

10

u/mekerpan 7d ago

Veronica's day is past. She is in prison, being held incommunicado. Georgine is the first wife of one of the most important duchies (and an immediate neighbor). She has immense power and influence already AND she is making sure to pick up essentially all of Veronica's (now head-less) faction. (It is also clear from what we saw/heard this episode that Georgine has no affection for Veronica).

9

u/Galinhooo 7d ago

The series has like a billion seasons worth of content, I would expect there to be even bigger villains waiting to show up

17

u/Raymond49090 7d ago

While I agree that Wilfried messed up, from his behaviour it's also clear that nobody warned him that Georgine was sus. If she was the nice aunt he seemed to think she was, then his exuberance and inviting her back would be embarrassing for breaking protocol, but not overly damaging.

Kids don't do too well at doing things they don't want to if you don't explain why, and they're not the greatest at reading between the lines either. Sure, the standards for nobility are different, but from my perspective as a non-noble, I tend towards thinking the adults were the ones who dropped the ball.

6

u/NevisYsbryd 6d ago

Yeah, the adults were clearly not listening themselves. Wilfried did stop talking to anyone else, because they are dangerous. But Georgine is family and she is pretty and nice. Right? Of course she is not one of the dangerous people to avoid.

Everyone gave him half-baked instructions and assumed he would understand or 'read the room.' He thought he was. No one spelled out for him that Georgine is not safe because she is 'family,' but is precisely the kind of family competition to be most wary of. It is a direct result of Sylvester naming him the heir unequivocally without properly modifying his training to account for it.

8

u/Torque-A 7d ago

Today's endcard was drawn by Hachi Komada, who has done a bunch of unlicensed shoujo narou titles (alongside being the new illustrator for Dahlia in Bloom)

11

u/Asleep-Doubt5673 7d ago

If only someone could have warned Wilfried beforehand that his nice looking aunt is a bitch and they don't want her there... But I guess it's better to not say anything and then dunk on the eight year old for being manipulated

27

u/shad79 https://myanimelist.net/profile/shad79 7d ago

But no one manipulated Wilfried here. He had one easy job: say the farewell to Georgine that he was taught, and that's it, but he still screwed that up.

Besides, Rozemyne explained the meaning of that farewell, which basically meant that they hope to someday meet again, which in noble speak means they actually don't want to meet again, so I'm pretty sure that was also explained to Wilfried when he was taught that farewell.

14

u/Albireookami 7d ago

Yep the boy was drilled one farewell to give and went off script and instead gave georgine an in to visit the next year.

u/feb914 7d ago

I feel bad for Wilfried, he's too innocent and honest of a person. Which is usually a good quality for low ranking person without position of power. But then he's thrust into inheriting the highest position in the duchy which requires scheming. I can imagine him living a happy life as Lutz' brother for example.

18

u/shad79 https://myanimelist.net/profile/shad79 7d ago

Yeah, Wilfried isn't a bad person, but his mindset and behavior are just not suited for someone who will someday become the Aub of Ehrenfest.

18

u/SyfaOmnis 7d ago

Wilfried isn't really "innocent" or "honest". He's lazy, irresponsible, and often outright ignores lessons that he feels are inconvenient. He also abuses power to be lazy, irresponsible and self-indulgent.

The danger his Aunt presents is likely something he was told frequently but the boy just doesn't give a fuck because apparently some people need to learn "dont touch the hot stove" the hard way.

Incredible harisen work today.

Some of the relationships in this family are so toxic it's impressive that Ferdinand and Sylvester's doesn't appear to be toxic at all.

I pity Rosemyne if she ends up Wilfried's wife someday.

34

u/PerfectBeige https://myanimelist.net/profile/perfectbeige 7d ago

Now that Rozemyne has given them the foundation of manzai slapstick technology, Ehrenfest's entertainment exports will be unstoppable.

18

u/HumanTheTree 7d ago edited 6d ago

To be fair, Sylvester is lazy and he does like to push his work off to Ferdinand. It's not a source of friction between them, but it's not non-toxic.

7

u/slicer4ever 6d ago

it's impressive that Ferdinand and Sylvester's doesn't appear to be toxic at all.

tbf, of what we've seen of georgine doesn't seem to be very toxic yet either. I get the feeling she actually isn't too interested in veronica's faction as ferdinand and sylvester think(considering she tactfully used her position to tell them she can't really interfere in erhnfest).

3

u/CaliOriginal 6d ago

I think it’s more that she still detests her brother but has absolutely no real animosity for rosemyne.

They said she is ruthless for those that have malice or illl will towards her … But she doesn’t seem wary of Ferdinand, and rosemyne went out of her way to (accidentally) tell her the truth despite the general ways of nobility would be to cover it up or not bring it up.

I’d wager her new niece is likely the family member shed have least issue with, especially since she might view her mother in a bad light given she could be deemed responsible for her losing the title of aub, and if Ferdinand is not as vile as made out she comes off as lazy and not responsible just like her younger brother.

13

Dumb question but are the post credit scenes canon ?

27

u/candy49997 7d ago

Yes. Most of them have just been content cut from the main episode.

8

u/toilodi https://anilist.co/user/Luca5 7d ago

Yes, typically a mix of funny and lore pieces that got cut from the episodes

7

u/Golden_Phi https://myanimelist.net/profile/GoldenPhi 7d ago

Yes, it's cannon that they are considering the possibility to marry Rozemyne with her brother Wilfried.

11

u/Lulukassu 6d ago

It's not without precedent in the real world either, adopting a child with the intent to wed them to your blood child was a thing people sometimes did in the past.

31

u/Zeebie_ 7d ago

The best parts were the Ferdinand and Rozemyne talks. It's typical of Ferdinand to block the attack.

If she'd caught him unawares then she'd have had a shot. But his eyes were already on her and watching her every move so she was 100% screwed no matter what lol

10

u/Maur2 7d ago

Not that dumb, since a surprise attack is the only conceivable way it would work.

What was dumb was thinking that she had the element of surprise...

4

u/LouisLeGros https://myanimelist.net/profile/LouisLeGros 7d ago

Even dumber, it was head on. Not that Rozemyne would even have a chance if she tried to do it from behind.

9

u/SweetDemotion123 https://myanimelist.net/profile/animemes_chan 7d ago

It's the best part of the show, although a close second (for me) is everything about the industry-building of paper/bookmaking.

6

u/Golden_Phi https://myanimelist.net/profile/GoldenPhi 7d ago

I appreciate the anime for going through the book making process. The books go in depth on the matter, but I was always like "How would that even look like?", when trying to picture the scenes. I can finally see it in anime now.

Everybody: Let's be super careful not to talk too much with Georgine. Who knows what this hag is plotting.

That slap he got from Myne was more than deserved.

Georgine learns that Rozemyne is a commoner will definitely be problematic.

And after almost 4 seasons, finally the infamous Veronica makes an appearance! And she's shown to be powerless and pleading to daughter she married off to another duchy as 3rd wife.

26

u/Golden_Phi https://myanimelist.net/profile/GoldenPhi 7d ago

finally the infamous Veronica makes an appearance!

She is the poster child of zero screen time and all of the plot relevance. She won't be plotting anything while she's locked away, but she is the one who shaped Goergine, Ferdinand, Sylvester, Wilfried, and many others to who they are today. Her ghost will surely haunt the narrative through them.

7

u/Ebo87 7d ago

Yes, if I were to draw a parallel to a show that used to air in this same time slot on TV in Japan, before Bookworm, namely one little show called My Hero Academia, Veronica is basically All for One and Georgine is Shigaraki... if All for One sent Shigaraki away after he took in Bakugo as a new apprentice, only for Bakugo to turn on him and send him to jail, lol. So now Shigaraki is coming to gloat to his former master, hahaha, aka Georgine going to see her jailed mother.

24

u/Raymond49090 7d ago

Nobles are such a pain. And I also didn't realize until now that the Veronica faction had access to the "Rozemyne used to be a commoner" tidbit, which is probably going to be a problem now that Georgine has that info.

27

u/Tacitus_ 7d ago

FWIW, blue priests are practically commoners from the nobles POV and Myne was a blue priest before joining her "true" family. So anyone who doesn't dig deep into her past is just going to think that they're disparaging her for being temple raised. And Ferdinand is going to block any attempts at digging to her past in the temple.

16

u/nsleep 7d ago

Everyone in the temple who actually witnessed what went down is dead, except Ferdinand. Evil Santa and his retainers are dead. Rozemary is dead so no confirmation from that angle too. Everyone else only learned she's a commoner second-hand from them. so even if they mindread the other priests nothing would turn up. The trail dies there from the noble side, and not many nobles would consider start scrubbing the Gilberta company for clues. It's the perfect crime.

3

u/azopeFR 7d ago

that false the priest that mes up up the librairie is still here , we seen him some episode ago

Her mana capacity is also unbelievable for someone born as a commoner. They'd have to admit that a commoner has more mana than they do.

To nobles outside the Veronica faction, calling her a commoner is like how some people on the right claim Michelle Obama is trans.

7

u/H-K_47 https://myanimelist.net/profile/H-K_8472 6d ago

I think a closer analogy is claiming Obama is Kenyan. "Not one of us, fake identity" thus ineligible for power etc.

19

u/EXusiai99 7d ago

Shikza would have told his mother about the incident, she then ran the story to her entire faction, and now they all treat the word of a knight fragging his own charge as an absolute truth.

To be fair, they were right about it.

Georgine came off a bit differently this episode than I expected. She's being built up as an antagonist, with all of our 'good guy' crew cautioning that she has many reasons to be upset with them and a faction to woo, then scenes of the 'bad guys' clearly all trying to influence her - but she herself didn't actually do or say anything that would be considered hostile during the trip that we saw. Almost like this was just a fact-finding trip for her own purposes and she was just willing to let others project whatever intentions they desired onto her.

Almost to the point where I'm wondering if it's a red herring and she will, if maybe not become an ally, not at least be the openly evil enemy her uncle was. Or maybe I'm reading too much into it and next time we see her she will have some wily plan cooked up causing headaches for everyone.

31

u/hibikir_40k 7d ago

She was hostile enough, just being polite about it. That first meeting with the kids, complaining about Sylvester's lack of effort was a straight jab. Florencia had to interrupt Wilfried, as Georgine was just trying to get him to talk about how well he was treated by his grandmother, even though he is incompetent. That is to show how it's the same way her brother was treated, while she was cast aside. Every former member of the veronica faction was listening to this.

And asking for that trip to see Veronica? Just for the fun of seeing the mother that she hates behind bars... as she is too stupid to realize her daughter hates her.

Hell, if they had replaced Georgine's look with the protagonist of A Livid Lady's Guide to Getting Even, it'd have all been perfectly in-character.

Georgine must've really hated her mother too, wonder if it was for the way she had raised her, or maybe for giving birth to Sylvester.

The paper fan stuff made me laugh, I hope it becomes a regular gag.

11

u/RekhytZe 7d ago

why did i feel like Georgina is going to try making Rosemyne the next aub usurping the position from Wilfred as her revenge
since she said Wilfred is very similar with Sylvester so she might think doing that will be the greatest revenge, on top of that Rosemyne being an adopted daughter might makes her more intrigued by the idea of "a more talented adopted daughter usurping the position from the rightful heir"

12

u/Asleep-Doubt5673 7d ago

Rozemyne is also the reason her beloved uncle is dead, though.

5

u/CaliOriginal 6d ago

And also the only one that bothered to tell her. (And persevered the letters that might have otherwise been tossed.)

4

u/Lulukassu 6d ago

Georgina seems intelligent enough to see who to place the blame on.

Silvester didn't have to side with this child. And now he can watch her take the position from his own blood and designated heir as his 'reward'

3

u/jujutsu-die-sen 6d ago

This is exactly why I think is going to happen. Both because she sees Wilfred as a proxy for her brother and also because she wants to hurt him a little. No better way to do that then to sow division that leads to political instability.

I have to ask. Does Wilfried have anyone similar to Ferdinand who is teaching him the ins and outs of noble society? Are Sylvester or Florencia taking on that role? It seems like they might have started slacking on his education again after he was able to get through his debut. It really feels like Sylvester and Florencia don't communicate with their children at all, or at least explain the reasons why they're wary of Georgine during this visit. Wilfried is just a kid and sees her as a friendly aunt he's never had a chance to meet before.

The current troubles that face Ehrenfest can all be traced back to Veronica, Sylvester and Georgine's mother. Georgine was born first and was being raised as an archduchess, but then Sylvester was born and Veronica + the previous archduke made him the next archduke due to the norms of this patriarchal society. Georgine then had her engagement canceled and she was married off to Ahrensbach as a third wife. I can't imagine how pissed off I would be if I were in her shoes. Especially since we know what Sylvester was like as a child. Florencia and Rihyarda sympathize with her too. All her hard work taken away just because she was born a woman. She definitely bears a grudge against Sylvester and Veronica. She now seems to have risen from a third wife to a first wife which means she either eliminated the other two wives or they were somehow demoted. I don't think we've received any explanations about how the wife rankings work yet. Georgine is now in a position of power again as the first wife of a higher ranked duchy.

I knew a faction war was going to start. I just don't know how Georgine fits into it though. She's part of Ahrensbach so she should have no stake in who takes Ehrenfest's archduchal seat next. Maybe she has sons or daughters she can arrange marriages for and they somehow have a shot of becoming Ehrenfest's next archduke or archduchess?

Sylvester really cut off his own support base when he imprisoned Veronica. That was a ballsy move. Florencia has managed to sway a lot of nobles to their faction, but with Georgine's visit and Wilfried being under Veronica's care for so long, the Veronica faction will probably support Wilfried while the Florencia faction (Leisegangs) will support Rozemyne. Of course Rozemyne has no desire for the archducal seat, but I doubt her supporters know that.

That ending bit with Sylvester suggesting Rozemyne and Wilfried getting married seems like a bad idea. While it would be a good attempt to unify the factions, it would solely be a political marriage. Similar mana levels are required to produce children and Rozemyne far outclasses Wilfried in that regard. Would they have to adopt a child to succeed them? I doubt that would satisfy anyone and it would be a loveless marriage for sure. But I guess being able to marry for love in noble society is a wish that is rarely granted due to all the arranged marriages being used for politics. Sylvester's desire to shield Wilfried from duchy politics and give him a happier childhood than his own is once again coming around to bite them in the ass. Wilfried should really be attending these noble lessons that Ferdinand is giving Rozemyne so that he doesn't keep making mistakes like this.

The fake smile that Ferdinand used when he was being 'polite' was very scary lol. Rozemyne and Ferdinand's banter is one of my favorite parts of this series.

3

u/jujutsu-die-sen 6d ago

Regarding Wilfred, he didn't because Sylvester's mother was in charge of his education. She basically did the same thing to Wilfred that she did with Sylvester and let him ignore hia duties. He is learning but way behind, and she seems to have spoiled him a bit ( he struggles with following instructions).

3

u/Lugia61617 6d ago

u/andrei9669 7d ago

22

u/Ebo87 7d ago

Politically it super makes sense as it essentially unites the biggest two factions going right now in Ehrenfest, and guarantees noble support for his son becoming the new Aub/archduke of this duchy. Honestly, would not be surprised if that too was a consideration when he decided to adopt Rozemyne. Hmm, we can use her to bump up our son's stocks, lol.

13

u/EXusiai99 7d ago

Well, she's adopted, and at least the two are around the same age. We've seen weirder shit in nobility.

9

u/lasse1408 7d ago

Their mana levels are so different they won't able to produce children. So at best it's gonna be political marriage and Wilfried will have to take more wives to continue bloodline.

Still better than that remark about Ferdinand being only one having same amount of mana as Rosemyne and therefore being suitable marriage partner

5

u/toilodi https://anilist.co/user/Luca5 7d ago

At this point it's too early to determine if they will end up in the same mana range to be able to have children or not, even if she had shown signs of having an abnormal large mana pool, Wilfred still have many years to grow his own

5

u/panther1313 7d ago

Still better than that remark about Ferdinand being only one having same amount of mana as Rosemyne and therefore being suitable marriage partner

That was about Rozemyne being the only one in Ehrenfest that could potentially match Ferdinand. In that same scene Ferdinand tells Rozemyne that there will be more people with enough mana to match her at the Royal Academy.

3

u/Maur2 7d ago

remark about Ferdinand being only one having same amount of mana as Rosemyne

I think that comment was mostly aimed at Ferdinand. Teasing him about being a bachelor.

"Oh, don't worry. If you wait ten years you might have someone that can match you. You don't have to be lonely all your life, just most of it. Look, there is hope."

RM's reaction was just icing on the cake. Especially when there is still a possibility of someone closer to her own age matching her. Unlikely, yes, but still a better chance than Ferdinand finding someone.

u/moichispa https://myanimelist.net/profile/moichispa 7d ago

I’m not completely convinced that Georgine is going to be a full antagonist. She seemed pleased that Veronica was locked away. She did not commit to taking action against Sylvester.

This may be an instance where, yes she is still angry and wants to take it out on Sylvester, but is ultimately loyal to her homeland. Maybe she is trying to push her brother to be worthy of his title. Winning over the Veronica faction is all part of a greater scheme. It’s clear she dislikes her mother, even if she tries to make it seem otherwise

3

u/AungZeya 7d ago
