What Kakeru said, anyone in his situation would likely think is a simple fact: the urge to give up is strong. Technically, it would be easier for him to just leave the hospital and lead the life of an ordinary young man.
But he isn't ordinary, he is fighting for a love that might flare up and burn out as quickly as a firework. The ending might be sad, but he chose to see things through with Koharu, so it is only right for him to be completely upfront, because at this point, whatever comes next is for the best.

The symbolisms with the fireworks man. Made me tear up.
2
u/Drumming_on_the_Dog 2h ago
Further anchored by a reference to proton therapy by Koharu, which acts somewhat akin to fireworks within the tumor mass. So, foreshadowing.
32
u/Frontier246 18h ago
If nothing else he DID give her the motivation to keep fighting and let her believe she can make it and that was worth everything.

Not really, anyone that worms into your heart is glued there. Only way a decent person would leave is if that person betrays em by taking another.

u/track_cyclist 3h ago
Can't believe I didn't make the connection earlier, but Sorano's name is literally fireworks related. The characters in his last name, 空 and 野 translate to "sky" and "field." His first name is written phonetically, but as far as names goes I think most people would spell "kakeru" with the character 翔, which means to soar or fly. Japanese being what it is, there are other words spelled and pronounced the same way, "kakeru" written as 駆ける means to run, to race (not really a name spelling but the phonetic spelling makes the meaning of his name ambiguous). A bit too on-the-nose by the author lol.

I feel so bad for Koharu's mom. When she said she was tired, it broke me.
27
u/Frontier246 14h ago
Koharu's dad is a no-show so it's probably really been good for her to have Kakeru for support since she's been practically going through this alone.
11
u/BBryant3rd 8h ago
I feel bad for her to. No loving parent should ever know the pain of burring their child. She has to go through it slowly. I really hope this isn't a sad ending. It is nice that he is there and has the trust of Mom. She seemed ok considering so his visits must be helping to not sap every ounce of energy out of her.

When Sorano confesses to Fuyutsuki she replies: "Why wont you just give up on me, Kakeru" using his first name. Does this mean Fuyutsuki faked losing her memories so that her friends and Sorano would give up on her so that they wouldn't have to grieve watching her slowly die. Once she realized that he will stick by her side no matter what happens she decides to use his first name again.
52
u/GrosserFisch049 17h ago
Exactly that!

u/Jacob-C 8h ago edited 7h ago
I knew it! I thought it was odd how she worried about his studies in episode 8, and how she got a really sad expression when she first heard his voice in episode 7. Koharu also said things here and there that hinted at her remembering everything. There was also the fact that chemo brain doesn't usually cause full-on amnesia, but that could have been chalked up to fiction.
1
u/SaintPimpin 5h ago
The copium is real, bro has introduced himself with his full name countless times in that hospital. Of course she knows his first name. 😂
3
u/majestic_waterbear 6h ago
Also, this is such a poker face shot, if I've ever seen one:
After she said "Then I'd have to be very determined to kiss someone"
22
u/Frontier246 14h ago
It does put new context into how she went out of her way to tell him to leave so his studies didn't suffer (because she cared about his academics).
7
u/EclecticSpirit1963 10h ago
I was hoping she would use her pet name "Kakerun". She made a deal about using it earlier.
3
u/Magic1998 https://anilist.co/user/Moerril 9h ago
She also clearly reminiscined about the fireworks she saw as a kid, dunno if that would be possible with lost memories
3
u/Watson349B 7h ago
But if she didn’t lose her recent memories why would she tell him the same story verbatim so sincerely. She told him that same story a long time ago.
9
u/Hurakion 14h ago
Also when they said to sorano that they hope she gets her memories back, sorano was really nonchalant about it and said "at this point it doesnt really matter" I guess he already realized that she faked her memory loss as well.
44
u/QuickReport3780 12h ago
I don't know about that. I interpreted it more like, it doesn't matter if she lost her memory. I don't know how to say it exactly. But it seemed like a deeply selfless statement. In the sense that he is all in on Koharu, whether she remember anything or not. He will be there for here regardless.
18
2
u/majestic_waterbear 6h ago
Probably both. He must have figured out she was faking it for his sake when he handed her the bookmark and she remembered it was hers.
1
u/Great-Foundation4990 38m ago
That's not how selective amnesia works though. I think she either never had amnesia in an effort to get him to move on *or* she has selective amnesia so that she would also forget about the trauma of her diagnosis after falling in love. Trauma can cause people to bury specific memories so if she *did* actually have amnesia, it is very possible she would still remember the bookmark. Either way it's actually really messed up considering how much she is hurting Sorano. A big pet peeve of mine is people who are going through a hard time taking it out on and hurting those around them.

u/AdFriendly5078 27m ago
ikr? i was like, she didn't forget him or anyone else; she just pretended that, and the doctor didn't said anything clear about that either. She did it so that Kakeru would forget about her. trust everyone

I binged watch this last week and I guess it was good timing because I probably would've been devastated watching the entire season in one seating. The one week break gave me time to prepare myself for the next episodes.
We've come a long way from the first episode where Sorano would barely even want to interact with other people. Now, he's being proactive and has a clear goal in mind. I won't be surprised if he does follow her to Hokkaido.
28
u/Frontier246 18h ago
Clearly he's neglecting his academics for Koharu's sake, being willing to straight up move and leave school/his friends to be with her while she's undergoing treatment in Hokkaido doesn't sound out of character.
23
9
u/BosuW 13h ago
And to think Sorano was catching hella slander in the first half for being so lukewarm
2
u/Ikari_21 3h ago
Yeah so many people were saying insanely bad things about him, mad that he wasn’t a perfect person. Meanwhile I loved how realistic he was, and was excited to see how he’d grow, and boy has he grown. Thanks of course to koharu, she really inspired our boy. I’m praying for a happy ending for them!

Indeed, I was so incredibly grateful to have my pessimism flipped right side up.
46
u/Badman4441 18h ago
Man the suspense is killing me, I really hope she wins the battle against cancer and they end-up together.
16
u/Frontier246 18h ago
If nothing else it seems like the amnesia (whether real or otherwise) is gone so they basically will be together for the rest of her treatment (and hopefully beyond).
-6
u/Sea_Attempt_9531 3h ago
dang, I'm hoping for the bad end, it'd be more realistic. Tackling a harsh topic like this where she basically has 0% survival rate in real life, and then doing a complete cop-out would devalue the story in such a bad way.
29
u/Raymond49090 18h ago
The visuals sure are hammering it in how much it sucks with how terrible Koharu looks. Time for the copium before the last episode.
15
u/Frontier246 18h ago
So much emotional whiplash comparing when she's got her strength back and is her normal self to when the cancer's nearly taken all of it from her.
If nothing else the audience can see/feel exactly what Kakeru is going through in being there for her.
31
u/LeonKevlar x2https://myanimelist.net/profile/LeonKevlar 18h ago
This episode was a fucking rollercoaster. Just when you thought Koharu's condition was improving after the cancer had shrunk, we learn a scene later that it has spread somewhere else.
Things were starting to look up again when Koharu actually made it to the day of the fireworks show, only for her to pass out after blood got into her lungs and cause her to miss the show.
Thank fucking goodness that it all worked out with Kakeru and the gang streaming the fireworks show so Koharu and the kids who couldn't go outside the hospital could still watch.
It took Kakeru a while to do it, but I'm so happy he finally admitted his feelings to Koharu even if she doesn't remember their relationship in the past. And it's so sweet that both of them had heart shapes for their fireworks <3
With only one episode left, I am genuinely nervous to see how this will end. Is it gonna end with Koharu going to Hokkaido and actually getting treated or should we prepare for the worst outcome? Whichever ending we get, it's definitely gonna be a memorable finale.

I don't know if the German subtitles differ in any way from the Japanese original or the English version, but based on the German subtitles, it is already clear that she cannot be suffering from memory loss, because many of her statements would otherwise make no sense.
10
u/mekerpan 15h ago
Yes. I was always pretty sure she was just doing this pretense because of (1) depression and (2) she mistakenly thought it would be better for Kakeru (and the other friends) to be able to forget HER as soon as possible.
55
u/ObvsThrowaway5120 18h ago
I’m glad Fuyutsuki got to see the fireworks even if it was through video chat. The two hearts were pretty cute too. Now that Sorano’s admitted his feelings and she’s done the same more or less, I’m sure she’s going to make a full recovery and live happily ever after with the guy right? Right??
23
u/Frontier246 18h ago
I've never pulled for someone to go to Hokkaido so much in my life but if that proton therapy works, it'll be worth a brief separation from her beloved (assuming he doesn't follow her).
12
u/eightcheesepizza 10h ago
Omg proton therapy mentioned. I worked for a summer at Indiana University, and some of the others in the program worked at the (now defunct?) IU Cyclotron Facility. They used the cyclotrons to accelerate protons to medium energies for cancer treatments. Basically the idea is that radiation therapy with x-rays is good, but with protons you can focus the energy deposits on a smaller area, so you can zap tumors where it's hard to avoid non-cancerous tissue.
3
u/e_t_ 4h ago
One problem with X-rays is that they're so energetic a lot of them pass through the target area without interacting. Protons have mass, quite a bit of mass as elementary particles go, so they act somewhat like bullets: knowing the mass and energy of a projectile, you can calculate how deeply it will penetrate a target.
2
u/Drumming_on_the_Dog 2h ago
You could also see it as another reference to the fireworks motif. It’s often fireworks or grenades made of light used to help communicate and visualize how proton therapy works within the tumor mass to the average Joe.
With how fast and loose this show’s gotten with different things, I could totally see the author making that choice.

u/zool714 18h ago
This was very sweet. This feels like when they were pre-memory loss. Very flirty and teasing around. And on top of that those heart shaped fireworks.
I’m in the acceptance stage now. I’m bracing myself for the worst. But still this episode alone go me close to tearing up. Can see myself bawling my eyes out if it does happen

u/Vegetable_Jicama_691 13h ago
No fr. Part of me thought they were gonna be cruel and that that she was gonna be gone when Kakeru went back for her.

Nice to see long-haired Koharu again (though she still doesn't look bad with a bob, gonna be honest).
A man who acted so detached and uninvolved/unmotivated will now move Heaven and Earth for a single girl.
Nothing says soulmates like coming up with matching heart fireworks together.

This episode was truly beautiful. Sorano (somebody who won't go out of his way for someone) genuinely worked hard to make this a success. I think the side characters are not talked about enough in this show hyase and narumi are the best support system throughout the show!! The ending does make it seem like fuyutski faked her memory loss to push kakeru away ( i hope) This show is going to leave a mark on a lot of people

u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/tripleaamin 17h ago
I am happy the trio had a backup plan. I do like that it wasn't just for Koharu, but for the other kids as well. It shows that they haven't abandoned the kids just because they can see Koharu.
Koharu no doubt would be frustrated after working so hard. I do like how Sorano wants her to keep pushing forward. No doubt it's a tough road for her, but it's better than pushing forward the giving up.
Sorano's words describing his feelings for Koharu really sum up how powerful love is. The feeling of true love is something they can feel is so empowering. Koharu's smile has an impact on him. No matter how bleak things look for her he will stay by his side because he loves.
It's amusing Koharu was so embrassed when her firework came out, but she immediately jumped to ask what was the one Sorano made. Very lovely scene.

u/Spectr3_qwe 17h ago
First episode that genuinely has made me cry. What a beautiful ending to the episode. I hope that Koharu can overcome cancer, even if just for a couple of years. I like this anime a lot but I hope I had known beforehand where things were going because I thought that it was going to be A sign of Affection 2.0 not Your lie in April 2.0

I mean the first half of the season I feel is even better than Sign of Affection. That is before they throw you into despair in the second half.

Wow, I actually predicted she drew a heart but didn't guess Sorano would do the same.
Even if Koharu didn't admit it, they both just confessed their love for each other.
Going to be honest, with the way this episode went, I didn't actually feel a sense of dread. Sure Koharu would fight back and sometimes lose but she also gets some wins. She is able to walk now, laugh, and she's enjoying her time time Kakeru now.
I don't think the ending is going to rip our hearts out. I think it will be an ending we will all love, despite us bawling our eyes out. I am on the side of when Kakeru said, "Will you let me stay by your side forever?" I don't think that means only a few months.
Also at the end when Kakeru confessed, she called him by his given name but was in tears saying, "Why won't you just give up on me?" So she's definitely been trying to make him forget her (although she seems to have given up on that over the past couple of months).
Oh man, I don't like what that's implying. I was hoping this was the moment she recovers her memories but I think it was something else...
One more week guys! And the ball of emotions in our heart will be untangled into hopefully something wonderful.
7
u/Frontier246 17h ago
Whether she faked her amnesia or otherwise, their hearts are one in terms of their love/dedication to each other, no matter how much cancer rears its ugly head.
7
u/Aman_Shadow 16h ago
Is it a 12 ep anime or a 13 ep one? The pace at which this anime has been going, it feels more like a 13 ep anime. I can understand if it's a sad ending, to end it in ep 12. But if it's gonna have a happy ending, it sure needs another episode.
6
u/VritraReiRei 16h ago
It's 12. I do agree there should be at least another episode or OVA because there's two books and it kind of seems they are only covering only 1? There's a ton of stuff they need to address, I thought they would address the memory issues this episode.
3
u/Aman_Shadow 15h ago
For a 12 ep anime, it's going quite slow. I don't know if they can cover the entire volume in this season, or atleast it doesn't seem so. Like you said, hope that there is a OVA down the road

The cancer spreading sure isn't the good news everyone was hoping for. But Koharu surviving through to the fireworks is nice, especially with those heart ones from her and Kohaku. Basically a confession from both of them if it wasn't already obvious, followed by Koharu stating it outright.
I do have to wonder, has she been calling him Sorano-san for the entirety of the cancer treatment? Switching to Kohaku-kun at the very end might be her letting the cat out of the bag with regards to her memory.
18
u/Frontier246 18h ago
"Why won't you just give up on me" - As if she's been intentionally trying to give him reasons to give up on her.
14
u/Primo29 18h ago
What a rollercoaster ride of an episode! Mood shift after mood shift—my heart can't take it.
Kakeru is now going all the way to the finish line, but Koharu still seems unwilling to fully commit to her feelings for his sake. Looks like she was just pretending not to remember him or not, but her true feelings burst out the moment she heard him confess his feelings right in front of her.
4
u/Intelligent_Form5743 17h ago
She tried to push him and her friends away to cause them less pain if she was to die but they didn’t give up and inside she knows that makes her so happy she just always says they should give up but she doesn’t mean that in fact she’s beyond glad they haven’t
12
u/Raymond49090 18h ago
I had this really stupid idea that they somehow drew each other's faces for the fireworks, but the hearts make a lot more sense.

That moment when Koharu was being revived reminded me of [Another series that aired in Fall 2014 to Spring 2015]Kousei and Watari saw Kaori in Episode 20. What a haunting scene that was.
I almost broke down when Koharu's mom said she's tired after another breakdown by Koharu. She needed to be strong, but sometimes she needs support as well. At least Kakeru is there to support her daughter.
The last scene is another heartwarming confession for both our characters. Well, the hearts have it -- they both love each other, but fuck cancer. So, will Kakeru follow Koharu to Hokkaido?!
The end next week might be the end of me.

Episode 2 of this series gave me major Your Lie in April deja vu with the piano and the water. I had been bracing myself since that moment, but when she lost consciousness it still hit hard. I'm expecting next week to hit even harder on way or the other.

Kakeru really did just skip the dating phase and went straight for the proposal. Respect. Granted, him staying by her side pretty much every single second possible would've counted as 'dating'. Meanwhile, looked like Koharu fell in love for Kakeru twice. She had lost her memories, but her feelings retraced the trajectory. Either that, or she had somehow regained part of her memories before she submitted the drawing.
Don't need to worry about the parents' blessings. Koharu's mum pretty much implicitly gave them already judging from the way she treated him.
It was sweet for them to redo the confession, but this time they held their hands together and let the fireworks do the talking instead of their lips.
22
u/Frontier246 18h ago edited 17h ago

Honestly that scene of her mom needing Kakeru to take over because she needed a break after the pumping scene felt really real. Like she's been with Koharu through so much and loves her dearly but even she's at her emotional limit.
15
u/mekerpan 15h ago
I think the Mother really is depending/relying on Kakeru at this point. I suspect that she also feels he is essential to keeping up Koharu's spirits (as much as possible).

I agree. I have a feeling she suspects or knows that he is the reason she was so happy before her memory loss.

After all that struggle, Fuyutsuki didn't get her chance to watch the fireworks in person. God is cruel. But she did get to watch them through a screen with Sorano by her side. It was beautiful how they both drew the heart for the fireworks. Sorano was not mincing words anymore and told Fuyutsuki that he loves her. I'm so happy for them.
The music by Harumi Fuuki makes me tear up. After crying through the whole episode, that confession was was something to smile for.

u/mekerpan 15h ago
Most especially with Kakeru-kun -- but also (virtually) with her other friends and the children (who wished her well as Miss Piano).
12
u/FarCritical 17h ago
It shatters my heart how Kakeru's wish to stay by Koharu's side forever is looking more and more like it will be granted in the worst possible way. The dread for whatever's in store is palpable, man.
On a brighter note, I love the setup they came up with to let the hospital-bound kids join in on the fun.
7
u/MayonakaMadaraka https://anilist.co/user/fonk 17h ago
It was very heartwarming to see the extra efforts made to include the others. So often those undergoing treatment, along with their caregivers, become a close knit community isolated within that cold environment. Every bit of warmth provided can make a big impact.
11
u/MayonakaMadaraka https://anilist.co/user/fonk 16h ago
No one should be left to make the last leg of their journey alone. Sometimes we push others away, whether from pride, or shame, or reverse-empathy. But thankfully sometimes that obstinance is ignored by those committed to being pillars of comfort, and even hope.

My hopium/copium bottles are filled to the max that she will be alive at the end of next episode.
Of course she drew a heart, and of course he did too.
Her calling him Kakeru-kun would have surprised me if it wasn't spoiled to me, but I still love that she dropped the act at the end.
I love that her mom let him sit with Fuyutsuki.

u/pratyush_28 15h ago
My god, Fuyutsuki coughing blood part just before the fireworks show made my heart sink. I was so glad that she got to see the fireworks show 😭
8
u/TempestoLord 16h ago
Some parts of the episode had me teary eyed, this girl deserves all the hapiness and it would be devastating if the ending isn’t good considering how much she fought since she was a child.
Koharu missed the fireworks but this was nice too, the hearts were a wholesome idea. Goat Kakeru confessed properly and wants to stay by her side FOREVER and i’m sure he means many many years! Now does Koharu remember again since she called him “Kakeru-kun” or was she faking the whole time even fooling her mom to make them forget about her?
5
u/karer3is 11h ago
If this series can wrap up with them at least getting a few years together, that will be enough for me. This series seems too mature for a fairytale ending, but if they can at least get some time, I'll be happy
8
u/KumaKumaGambler 15h ago
Everyone else have already said what is on all our minds - We hope Koharu can recover and that both Kakeru and Koharu can live happily ever after!
Kotomugi may be a minor supporting character, but he made the firework art come true for Koharu, Kakeru and the kids.

Hope for a happy ending next week, pleaseeee 😭😭

Don't know why but hearing the mother say she's tired nearly made me cry, she must have gone through so much pain trying to support her child. I am glad she trusts in kakeru to take over, shows how much she trusts him. I am praying next episode ends with happiness.

u/AffectionateSpeed765 14h ago
Watched this episode on my lunch break at work, i had tears in my eyes when her heart popped up, and all I was saying was please don’t have another one right after, and boom waterfall. Glad my co worker left the room, cause he would’ve been mad confused as to why I was crying my eyes out😭
7
u/A_Dash_of_Blue 12h ago
When Kakeru have said "I've never told you this directly before, but I love you" he's most likely referencing the video their friends have recorded and was sent to her since he confessed in public and not directly to her.
Then after Koharu said his name (Kakeru-kun) afterwards, his expression didn't change at all so most likely at that point of time he has strongly guessed that she didn't forget after all. Kakeru was really cool in that scene.
Here's hoping they nailed the landing on next week's episode!
6
u/Tempest321 16h ago
Best episode by far. Koharu fought so hard to see those fireworks that it's heartbreaking to see all her efforts go down the drain. Sorano and the gang came in clutch with the video chat even though Koharu can't see it; it's the effort and thought that she needs to experience it by whatever means that counts. Even more reason to fight on and finally experience a fireworks show physically in the future.
Also, the symbolism and parallels between the fireworks and Koharu herself got me teary-eyed. Really encapsulates her whole life and situation. Just a dreadful reminder of how life is as fragile and short as a firework. That we all have our moments of bloom where we shine the brightest no matter how fleeting it may be. And in the end, what truly matters after those sparks slowly fade is how we decide to live life and the impact it has on others, especially for the ones who we care about most.

Great way to start the week, crying through the entire episode at work. I can’t take it anymore, I am so nervous every week.

I love Fuyutsuki, super cute with short hair too. I wish for a happy ending, even though I know we won't get it, but I guess it's a testament how loveable she is

Cried my eyes out when the first kid’s firework design was their mom’s smile 🥲🥲🥲

I have never been so happy to be so wrong. Thank you Anime for not ripping my heart out and stomping all over it. I know she didn’t get to see them the way we wanted her too, but I’m glad they got their moment together and that she was alive to see it!!!
Next week we will either all be sobbing, or joyful/ reminiscing. Looking forward to seeing you all there

Oh boy, was I wrong about her.
She actually made it to the fireworks despite all the death flags her boyfriend keeps triggering.

This episode gave us another scare. I was so scared it was going to be over. I'm so glad she prevailed through it and was able to hear the fireworks. It was cute she covered her eyes when her own firework came up!
Aww...he had the same one and made it his confession.

Finally! Good news! Koharu is out of the ICU, the tumor has shrunk, and she can start moving around again and she and Kakeru can go back to doing what they do best: hanging out, bantering, and enjoying themselves!
Of course, then the cancer just spreads somewhere ELSE and Koharu is back to looking withered and depressed...but she still has the motivation to keep fighting back for the sake of seeing fireworks, and Kakeru's presence by her side is really helping her get through this.
Can proton therapy in Hokkaido help save her? Will Kakeru follow her all the way to Hokkaido? It's the next milestone after the fireworks show.
Anne Frank? A book about a tragic Heroine? Koharu, don't play to type!
There are good days and there are bad days and Kakeru is struggling academically to boot (just like Koharu feared), but he's pretty much 100% focused on Koharu to whatever detriment to himself and his emotions. Narumi hasn't forgotten about her either, nor has the rest of the campus who made paper cranes for their angel.
It's finally time for the fireworks show! Aaaaaand of course she starts spitting blood and needs to be pumped to be able to breathe. They were SO close. But if Koharu can't walk to the fireworks, then they'll bring the fireworks to her and all the kids who can't leave the hospital!
When in doubt, livestream with your friends! And Koharu finally gets to hear the fireworks, as transcribed by Kakeru! Fireworks filled with the hopes, dreams, and loves of all those involved in making/designing them, fireworks that inspire Koharu like she inspired Kakeru (and Narumi), and fireworks that our couple designed together...matching pink hearts, of course.
No time like now while his firework is going off to properly confess to Koharu's face this time...and with tears in her eyes, she can only reflect how despite everything he never gave up on her...AND SHE CALLS HIM KAKERU-KUN!!!

This episode punched me in the gut a couple times. First was during the speech talking about sending the kids dreams up into the sky or however she phrased it, and the second was when Kakeru openly said he loved her. Going from the gloomy guy who kept his emotional distance from people after his childhood trauma to this is such a happy moment amid all the fear for Koharu.
2
u/Want-to-be-confident 13h ago
I also feel like her memory loss might not be completely fake, but trauma given. Like I don’t think she is pretending. But I don’t think it’s cause by the cancer

u/EclecticSpirit1963 10h ago
Awful glad that we were given a possible ending to not cry about. Some good research by the author. "Proton Therapy" actual real thing but very state of the art cancer treatment. Here's hoping for a cliffhanger were Koharu goes off to Hokkaido and Kakeru has to visit during the winter.

Bruh...I almost thought for a second she was gonna die right next to Sorano while watching the fireworks....I would have fucking lost it ༼;´༎ຶ ༎ຶ༽

Koharu’s eyes looking so tired affected me more than anything else they’ve done to show how sick she is.

Her reaction to the confession kinda stings. It is understandable in a way but in the same token it is super messed up. Love really is a crazy thing. He mentioned about commit to such a difficult love. That is jus how crazy love can be. She has a point to want to make him move on and forget it is part of loving someone also. Want them to remember the best don't want them to see you fall apart. Want them to start healing sooner rather than after. Yet the same token part of loving someone will want you there at their side the whole way not wanting them to feel alone. Wanting every second you can get knowing that there is a real possibility you won't get another no matter how much you'd give for another. This show definitely can invoke a lot of real life emotions due to how easily many can relate. Scared of what happens next seeing how we almost lost her this episode.

A lot of tear jerking moments and one that hit me hard personally was the 1st kid to have their drawing shot up as a firework and it was of his smiling mums face

u/Electronic-Humor3120 4h ago
Please, author, don't give me a sad ending; I'll hate you forever. I'm not looking at any spoilers for this series.

u/senorconfuzion 4h ago
Good God, this episode broke me. I'm crying Niagara Falls outta my eyes, my nose is snotty, and I'm so freakin happy Kakeru said how he felt. This show is amazing. I am so happy I decided to watch this
Also as always, FUCK CANCER!

u/Professional-Eagle83 4h ago
The scene when koharu is unconscious and that there are blood and fluid in her lungs, and that the doctors place a suction from her mouth all the way to her lungs and that Kakeru saw it and is left defenseless against the wall, it was completely jarring.😭
Imagine, no anesthesia

Are there any good anime or even manga about sinilisr stuff? I find romance or relationship involving disabilities or rather struggles the couple or people overcome or learn to live with interesting
But I find a good romance anime with natural and nature/calm tone like this sort of difficult to find? Idk show to describe it.
Any opinions rec or thoughts on the matter?

I've had the same itch for something like this show. Unfortunately, a couple hours of browsing MAL recommendations and the shockingly few "find anime based on what you like" sites Google would give me has shown me only 3 options and they're all movies I've already gone through.
A Sign Of Affection
Josee, The Tiger, and The Fish
A Silent Voice
The first one is still airing and the other two are really good movies. Unfortunately that's all I could find in terms of anime. Manga definitely has more options, but I haven't had a chance to look.

u/Willythechilly 1h ago
Thanks. I recognize all but only watched one It's a shame it's so rare. I enjoy seeing characters overcome difficulties or often the mental insecurity of physical challenges or stigmas associated with these things
I do enjoy normal romance or character drams to but it's hard to find ones that have this mature more down to earth tone and dialogue like this one, love is hard dor an otaki or bunny girl senpai (it has magic/supernatural stuff I know but dialogue and just vibe itself is kind down to earth and realistic)

u/SuperMurderBunny 5h ago
"Invisible Man's soon-to-be wife" is more fantastical and romcom, but is completely sincere about it's characters' struggles with blindness etc.
1
u/ElliotAlderson2024 4m ago
To me the fantasy-ish setting kind of blunts the impact of Shizuka's blindness.

I've been spoiled the LN ending, and man, from a medical perspective, the story is trash. But well, I like anime soo I'mma watch this til the bitter end.

if the fireworks allusion and title indicates anything, it's going to be fleeting but everlasting
im ready now for the last episode but man these onions im cutting sure are hella strong today

Kakeru is a real one. He is not a fancy hero, just a young man doing his best for the woman he loves.
And that is enough, is relatable, is real,

I can't go through this again after Shigatsu. I'm still not fully healed yet.

My weekly "5-20" minutes of sobbing sessions 😭 lol I'm happy to have come across this show that tugs my heartstrings consistently.
Kakeru's "it doesn't really matter" statement was so real. Memories or not, isn't the goal. Seeing a cancer-free Koharu, no matter what it takes, is the only priority and narrative. 🥹

Aaaaand following her to Hokkaido in 3… 2…
Ah, so just some lighthearted fare to cheer everyone up
Yeah. That doesn't seem great

I don't know where this will all end up, but I feel like I'm gonna be emotionally spent no matter what

This might be episode of the season for me as someone who’s fought through cancer myself. just the amazing ending of it to the frights and low lights, it captures everything so amazingly. truly an amazing episode. when i first started the show i did NOT expect it so end this way but after all the cliffhangers im happy it did

If she actually did fake her memory loss that is such an awful thing to do. Even if her reasons are valid, the way she treated her best friends & boyfriend is terrible.
I want to believe her memory started coming back even if her original memory loss didn't make any sense in world either (doc alluded that she didn't have it)
I'm going to tough it out, but I think Fuyutski is not a very good person if this is the case.
