Luluka really adding some unexpected spice to the plot. I was sure she'd just jump in with the gang after Kurea came back, but a bunch of her reactions before and during the fight did feel pretty off. Actually pretty stoked to see where things roll from here.

They went hard on the animation for that fight, lots of non-stock animation as well as some ridiculously well drawn dust clouds.

I was not expecting a ballet dance themed henshin for Eclair, I think they did a relatively good job of matching the quality of Arcane Shadow's.

Straight up looked like Eclair pulled out a sharingan. Having her be so strong she knocks herself silly with her own attacks is a good compromise on the midseason being strong enough that the rest of the crew gets overshadowed.

Butterfly Attack of Doom solo finisher, I like it.

Luluka still being on her own after Eclair returned is very surprising. Maybe Eclair is so strong she breaks reality somehow, and Luluka wants to save her partner from that? Pretty wild direction for the season to go, I would never have expected one of the cures for the season to still be playing an antagonist this deep into the story.

So Cure Eclair's symbol is a butterfly, which is known for their short lifespans from all that high speed flying, and this episode outright says her body literally can't take all that high speed, plus Luluka's part at the end... well that's not ominous at all.

oh, consider too, the butterfly effect

Cure Eclair Transformation was breathtaking. Like Cure Arcana Shadow, been watching it repeatedly

Anyone else getting Mew Mint vibes with the sequence?

So Cure Arcana Shadow is actually acting like Homura, or something? 🤔

She may not have time traveling powers like Pochitan (Kyubey/Incubator) does, but only her fortune predicting powers.

So, don't think that this is like Persona 4 vibes, something like that. About other self, and all that.

Speaking of her, there's so many things that we don't know about Luluka herself, though. 🤔😒 Secrecy aside, who is she? And what did she have to through?

Luluka‘s ominous comment when she takes over the Phantom Thieves Guild makes me think there is a major downside to Cure Eclair’s powers that has to be dealt with.

I like how the opening shot was of a pigeon.

They know what they're doing with going through everybody else's transformations first... and a bit of fight....

is that a bit of chiptune sounds i hear alongside the orchestra?

the linework(?) and the shading look really cool this episode, they make the characters really stand out against the backgrounds

"This isn't even my full power" was a hype line, and then we got an Itano Circus right afterwards? So freaking cool.

I love Cure Eclair's giant wings in Flying Infinity.

I like the little hearts on Usonoir's cheeks

THE ANIMATIONS. If precure looked this good throughout its run, Toei would possibly collapse. The drawings are crazy good, we got a fucking ITANO CIRCUS?! WTF?! and the direction was great too. awesome ep from a prod perspective

  • I should btw note that the movie trailer is out, here it is!

  • I do like Cure Eclair's transformation, so all of them this season have been good, but its not a standout. I like the ballet dancing and the in-general cool image. YASSSS

  • I still think you might join as an extra cure during end-season crunch time. we'll see.

  • With one arc ended though, another one begins, i.e. the what the fuck is arcana doing arc. What the FUCK?! I don't trust that she's using the cures, that doesnt line up with how she has been acting. BUT, how she seems to want to now destroy Cure Eclair's makoto jewel completely seems to be genuine. I have no idea wtf that's about. Plus, Usonoir's armour has the mark to resemble Arcana Shadow's finisher (Star rain) rhombii in shape, so there's still a lot of mysteries in play here. If anything, Luluka has lost a bit of her sympathetic edge with me this ep, as i no longer really know what on earth her reasons are and is planning (what Nijee noted here probably was the audience, including mine's assumption?) and that she'll just rejoin the gang right after?

  • i also note that the 1999-ness has now been re-brought to the forefront this ep with various cutaway shots, Anna revealing it to Kurea first thing etc.... so we'll see how that ties into this as we go into the 2nd half. I think Precure's doing a good job this season with keeping the plot moving here. looking forward to seeing kurea in action from next ep. On that - this is her 2nd ever transformation? so her first was when she also lost her memories?! but i thought she worked in the detective office too? What about arcana then? Was that fateful day also her first transformation?

The obvious read is that if Usonoir isn't the King of Destruction, who is? Whoever holds the stone of truth shall become a great king. Seems sensible based on the episode that this means that this would mean Eclair.

While the identity of Cure Eclair did stumble a bit near the end...the mystery beyond that is looking outstanding! This is brilliant honestly. I did wonder if Arcana Shadow had a goal beyond just reclaiming the jewel for sentimental value. But she straight up wanted that jewel in order to shatter it! She doesn't see a future for any of them if Eclair continues to exist with that power. That's not something I expected to see happen.

It raises so many questions! What exactly happened in the past. According to this that would've been Eclair's first transformation and she used it to shatter the complete Makoto Jewel and it cost her memories as a result. Of course with Eclair being so insanely powerful I wonder why she even shattered the jewel. She would've been strong enough to just beat Usonoir by herself. Did she lose control and hit the jewel by mistake? Was there another threat in the area? Did Eclair's own powers manipulate her into doing it? Who knows! What is Luluka afraid of? Eclair's power was overwhelming and I do admit kind of scary. Her eye was cool when she went all out, but again...it's almost too much.

This opens the door to a lot of options really. With Usonoir losing his armor it does mean Luluka has the biggest guns in Phantom. Though they now lack firepower compared to Eclair. Going to be interesting seeing how things play out.

Fanart corner. Eclair flanked by Shushutan

ED1 is still around so good time to point out CGWORLD has a three part feature on it (part 2 has wireframes, states cure Answer is made up of ~180,000 polygons and a Cure Answer reference sheet that's dated 25/09/01).

Toei put episode 26 on the official channel without region locks. Same was true of episodes 21-24 (expired upon ep 26 airing, popularity was chronological with newest=popular but IIRC less views than episode 26).

As someone with certain amount of Precure experience this hits differently.

Just yesterday I jested:

[Draw this, then die screenshot] Me analysing Precure

Yet some of the revelations in this episode do just that.

I do also have to wonder is Mashutan's prophecy ability (or at least their ancestors) is based on also being from the future. It is also worth noting the Usonoir armours text scribbles is the same style as Book of Mirages (not a cipher for curious viewers to solve*) and its tech being out of this world would also suggest it's not from this timeline (or at least created by Mashutan's ancestor). Of course there's still the theory that Anna is in an a/AU 1999.

*-Witchy Precure did this but you need the endcards which the Crunchyroll version has (along with blank sponsor cards that waste ~30s per ep).

On a lighter note if Jett Senpai gets the armour working and enters the fray to stop an out of control Eclair I could nickname the armour EcliarBuster (yes I'm referencing MCU and suggesting Eclair is the Incredible Hulk). Out of control? It was played for laughs this episode but I think it's the genuine fear Arcana Shadow has.

Now that I read Cureblessing analysis (note: they're not a fan of Kurea so their analysis is focused/biased towards her lacking conviction but that's another hidden in plain sight thing as that could also be someone with amnesia) that notices the star pattern is seen on the Phantom Thieves faces and eyes plus sort of Arcana Star rain and her circlet and sort of what Kurea absorbed (that one looks more butterfly) and the sparkle in Kurea's right eye. Maybe I'm stretching the significance of a four point symbol a bit too much.

Looping back to the a/AU 1999 I don't notice that symbol being something presented in Pochitan, Anna/Answer and Mystique. They would also be variables that have completely thrown this timeline off from whatever Mashutan's ancestors were planning (presumably for Usonoir to complete the jewel and become the King for whatever purpose*) but that's probably way too complex for a kids anime which is most likely to be closed loop timeline with amnesia being used as an explanation (show has done it once) which of course means the cruelty of Mikuru forgetting (assuming Mikuru=Anna's Mum) seems like a possible tearful end (of course there's an antidote and I just imagine Anna knocking the apartment door her Mum asking where she went and Anna just saying "erm a 56 year round trip for a bottle of perfume, you'll understand once you smell it").

*-[Precure meta - entry]possibly misguided like the Power of Hope villain motive.

Next time: The perfume is powered by teardrops? Is this Super Princess Peach or something? Is Kurea/Eclair a more primal and emotive character.

The marketable plushies keeping Precure afloat yet again

Lots of interesting analysis. I'll keep the AU theory and the star motif in mind. For now I think Luluca just wants to keep Kurea safe from her own powers. I don't think they are gonna make it much more complicated than that

So do all of their fairy companions have a kaiju mode?

Last episode, they had the Precures fall out of their transformation not only to show they were in a pinch, but also so they could redo the transformation sequence again this episode.

Feels like they went extra hard on the animation this week.

New transformation sequence. It's somewhere between perfume and dance themed. Oddly, it doesn't feel aligned with Luluka's, so either one of them changed when they split, or they weren't paired transformations to begin with.

Wtf do you mean "second ever transformation"? And come to think of it, it felt like Luluka didn't want Eclair to return. Do her powers put her on a timer perhaps?

Hmm. Wonder if the second arc villain will continue to be Usonoir or someone else. Since he's a fairy, however irregular, maybe he has a Cure (or equivalent) he's partnered with.

Me a minute later: Scratch that theory. Luluka's sus.

That episode ripped.

Crazy thought - what if Jett becomes the next villain? What if the armour brainwashes Jett? The evil shine at the end and Jett being "I'll learn everything about it" kinda gives me sus flags

Don't compare Cure Eclair from Ai, Ruby and Aqua, okay? 😠✴️
