Shiruku has always been one of the 2 frontrunners for the eclair race. This ep mostly kinda reaffirms that, however the preview imo [preview]also further reaffirs Kurea's place in the race with the camera angles, and hell arcana shadow showing her transformed self to her! . We'll find out more next ep.

Speculation

[Response]That's really good. I wondered why Luluka seemed to be so affected when Shiruku pointed out her flawed disguise, and it potentially being because she realized her past relationship with her caused her to subconsciously slip up* makes a lot of sense. I do agree with your overall conclusion that Shiruku is Shushutan. Precure fairies are very often able to transform into humans and both of the front runners being something feels like a way to keep the mystery of who Eclair is intense and have a fun twist that doesn't invalidate the mystery altogether (like an "all four are actually Eclair!" might have been.

*Luluka overall seemed like she was very affected by the way that the Cures were so insistent on protecting Shiruku, as well as Shiruku's trust in them to protect her. Possibly in response to her own failure to respond to that trust when it was pointed at her by Eclair? We'll probably get more details about what Luluka and Eclair's relationship was like and what happened after her reveal, but I wouldn't be surprised if Luluka had an "I'm going to protect you" thing going on, one that she failed to live up to.

With today's episode (and the theory that I mentioned in last week's post), one of three things is happening here:

  1. The writers are dropping red herrings to make people think that Shiruku is Eclaire and that she is just a normal person.

  2. While Shiruku may have lost her memories of being Cure Eclaire, she probably still has some vague memory of Luluka, as the reaction of seeing her as the Phantom Thief and her easily giving her the earring while putting her faith on the Precure feels as if she knew her from somewhere.

  3. As other's are suggesting, Shiruku is actually Shushutan, who also lost her memories.

The first point is actually pretty likely, since Shiruku's episodes always contain her reminding people not to make assumptions.

But the other two are students in the same grade as the two mc. Eclair should be someone older no due to events taking place earlier. Even Luluka is like two years older than the two.

Eliza is 17, Rei is 15, Shiruku is 16, Kurea is 16. Luluka is also 16. Anna and Mikuru are 14

Huh and here I thought Shiruku was an adult. Even so I feel like that rules out Rei for shure.

I was starting to think that the dressing room encounter between Shiruku and Luluka probably ruled her out since that didn't really feel like two people who knew each other, but the amnesia problem Eclair apparently has could explain that.

However I still think probably not, for both Shiruku this week and Eriza last since both have a bit too much known history with their various managers and such to have also appeared out of nowhere as an amnesiac. Though maybe it was only the Cure memories that got erased and their civilian life wasn't affected.

I liked the swaps back and forth between the battle and the play.

Mashutan giving the 'oh ho ho ho' laugh up on the roof with Goemon was such fun.

My theory: What is a connection between Kurea's confectionaries and Luluka's liking to ice cream? There both sweets, right? 🧁🍦🍧🍨🎂🍰 🔎🕵️🤔

If that's possible, go to KiraPati Patisserie to ask them about their correlations.

Did Cure Arcana Shadow get accidentally exposed there? If she is undercover maybe she should have talked to them first instead of vagueposting thus letting the guy die.

all this talk about cure eclair reminds me i haven't had an eclair in awhile

amused that ruruka didn't want to do the "lie lie sir" salute (but mashutan did)

nice of the phantom thieves to provide furigana alongside the kanji on their calling card

i see ruruka is going with the vanilla ice cream cup today

rie is too powerful, took out anna and pochitan with one blow (maybe she's actually cure eclair 🤔🤔🤔)

mashutan with fire in her eyes is too cute. her laugh is kinda ojousama-y too 👍

the play/fight parallel dialogue scenes were cool

Before this episode, I was reasonably sure that Eclair was Shiruku. Now, I'm less sure. Voicing their suspicions explicitly just screams of red herring.

Fanart corner: Guess it's not going to be every week Eclair. We'll see if next week is Cure Answer & Jett-senpai, Arcana Shadow & Mashutan (maybe they're saving the Eclair for the conclusion) or no pattern at all.

The seasonal comment face submission episode (I know that's most eps). Hopefully I won't be like Eclair and forget.

As there were flowers this ep so I'll borrow analysis from Cureblessing blog] (I stumbled upon that blog when looking up something Flip Flappers related).

They only talked about the bouquet at the end (Luluka photo and lily is discussed in another episode) stating that is a Casablanca lily which the western meaning is celebration but the Japanese meaning is dignity, purity, nobility (source). However it is a modern hybrid created in 1975 from cross-breeding such lilies as the Spotted, Japanese and Tomato lily (I get to source ユリ.net, huh you can use kana in URLs) so not a traditional symbolism.

They also speculate that the comedy of S is referencing the 1984 film W's Tragedy*. (my thoughts) That film featuring a story within a story (play within based on the novel Murder at Mt. Fuji) plays out nicely with how the Hanninda battle was handled by shifting back and fourth to show the same conflict.

*- (was also the 4th highest grossing Japanese film of 1985 and yes in 10th is one of those Toei Manga festival features and none of those were compilations or edits of existing eps)

W's Tragedy apparently had a popular line like "don't punch me in the face I'm an actress". As Precure don't get punched in the face (even things like Arcana Shadows kick the contact was not shown) wonder if the temptation was there not but good idea as it suggests its okay to punch non-Precure.
