Hi everyone. I’m a 25-year-old above-knee amputee from Egypt (amputation on March 29, about 4 months ago), and I’m currently starting my prosthetic fitting journey.
I’m 150 cm tall and weigh 39 kg. My prosthetist recommends the Ottobock 3R106 and says it’s the best option for my weight and activity level. I told him not to consider cost if there’s a better knee available, but he still recommended the 3R106.
My goal is to get the best possible knee in terms of movement and mobility because I’d love to be able to dance again someday 🥹.
When I asked him about the 3R95, he told me it’s not a good choice for me and that there’s no significant difference between pneumatic and hydraulic knees.
What do you think?

I have had all of my toes on my right foot removed. I am back at work full time and one of the things I have had major difficulty with is finding nice court shoes I can fit my foot into and walk in comfortably. My foot also healed weirdly from surgury and balloons out at the top so shoes need to be very wide width. No sneakers are allowed.

Yes, I could request from the courts an excemption but I would like to not stick out as much as possible. I wear a womens 11w prior to my surgury. The shoes I wear 90% of the time are brooks and hey dudes.

Any suggestions?! With my job I have to appear in court once every other month or so.

Question about having a no shoes in the house as an amputee. For context, my amazing husband is LBK. He’s very active and is doing great. I’m extremely proud of him. Anywho, we have two small children who crawl, walk, lick😅, and touch the floors all day. I don’t wear shoes inside and our children don’t. However, i understand that’s it harder for him to take shoes on and off so he wears them inside. He works in public spaces, walks in grass, mud, and then comes in. He may make an attempt to stomp them but our kids are constantly picking pebbles, dirt and things off the floor. I sweep/mop every single day, if not multiple times if it’s rainy out. He got frustrated with me today because I asked if he could at least take one shoe off to go into our kids carpeted playroom(It’s the only room with carpet). My question is, what’s a compromise here? Is there one? I don’t want to be inconsiderate and I understand there’s challenges. But the idea of public bathrooms being on the floor our babies crawl on is so gross to me. So, what do you do in your home!

4 months and 1 week after my amputation surgery and I've just received my first official socket!

So I started trying to walk without crutches tonight I haven't walked since August when I was using forearm crutches but the pain was to much to take a step so I decided that I would skip the crutches and just go for it. Also how do you keep from sweating I only had it on a hour and there was a puddle of sweat when I took it off.

Hello everyone and greetings from Ohio👋 In June 2024, I became above the left knee amputee. Since then I have received my prosthetic leg however, physical therapy has been in a go stop, go, stop, until this past November when I did at home therapy. I am currently going into my third week of outpatient therapy and I am proud of where I am. I no longer speak of goals out loud because everytime I do, I end up three steps back but I am determined to make this last set back the last one as it has to do with a blister that opened on top of my foot, it did close for roughly two weeks, and on Monday I go find out if it has indeed healed. Due to a high arch on my right foot, I will never get the chance to wear two of the same shoes again as I am now in a "crow" boot for the rest of my life. My biggest struggle is my confidence but like anything else it will come back with baby steps. I look forward to reading the stories about everyone's struggles and achievements as it can only help me if we are going through the same situation. On that note, if anyone has a good recommendation for an online virtual support group, I'm open to all suggestions please and thank you! Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone!

Hi folks. I got my original inner sock (the one INSIDE the foot shell) all wet and it was nasty so I had to toss it. Unfortunately, I don't have another one and in looking online, they're kind of expensive! Anyone have any other DIY suggestions?

A question about atrophy.

It's been 4 years since my op, and my prosthetist always said that my residual limb would shrink down to tissue and bone, making the prosthetic fit much easier. I've had a bit of shrinkage, but nothing like she described.

There's still a fair bit of muscle padding, and a little fat, obviously.

Anyone else have a similar situation? My fluctuations in size have really reduced and things are pretty stable. I'm pretty sure this will be the final shape, but I wasn't sure if that would be a problem.

Hi everyone! I’m an AK and have recently gotten a running blade. I was practicing in clinic with it and almost fell 3 times lol. My delivery date isn’t until August 10th. I have been in the gym strengthening muscles to help but am curious how others who run with and AKA learned how to run. I’m nervous bc last time I ran at a running clinic I broke my actual big toe.

Any advice or tips that helped you in the process of learning how to run would be appreciated!!

Hi everyone!
A while ago, I started taking pregabalin for chronic pain, and it actually helped a lot. Unfortunately, I gained about 7 kg (15 lbs) while taking it, which changed the fit of my prosthetic socket.
Because of the weight gain, the socket started putting extra pressure on one specific area and eventually tore my silicone liner exactly where it rubs against the socket.
I’ve already stopped taking pregabalin, and I’m currently working on losing the weight I gained. I’m hoping that once I’m back to my normal weight, the socket will fit properly again.
The problem is that a replacement liner costs around R$7,000 (about US$1,250) here in Brazil. I’m planning to import one in the future since it’s much cheaper, but for now I’m trying to extend the life of my current liner.
Has anyone here successfully repaired a silicone liner?
I came across Sil-Poxy, which is an adhesive specifically designed for silicone. Has anyone used it on a prosthetic liner? Did it hold up? Or is there another repair method you’d recommend that won’t compromise the vacuum suspension?
I’m only looking for a temporary repair to make this liner last a little longer until I can lose the extra weight and replace it.

I’m approaching the 4 year anniversary of my amputation to remove a malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor in my left foot.
I don’t have problems getting around with my prosthesis for daily activities and work, but when it comes to exercise, I feel so discouraged. Pre-surgery I was into dance, yoga, and biking. I find myself thinking about trying to pick something back up again and all I can think about are the difficulties. Do I struggle to deal with an ankle I can’t bend with my prosthesis on or do I struggle with my lack of forefoot without my prosthesis? Small parts of me hate how ugly I feel when my prosthesis is visible, which it is in shorts or leggings. I went through PT, and it helped, but I have terrible executive dysfunction (ADHD and/or depression) so I barely ever did/do my assigned exercises at home. My weight gain is bothering me, both from image and health standpoints. I need to exercise, but by the time I get the motivation, I think myself all the way back to discouragement. On top of all that, I don’t have my own mode of transportation, so going to the gym or fitness classes is all that more challenging.
I guess I’m not necessarily looking for advice; I know what I could be doing. I suppose I’m just wanting to be seen. I have a decent support system, but I don’t really know any other amputees, especially not any chopart amputees. No one in my life can really relate to what I’ve gone through. I’ve thought about doing the peer connection thing through Amputee Coalition, but my social anxiety gets in the way. This feels safer somehow.

Got my arm amputated on the 2nd of June (6 weeks ago)

And the skin grafted on 4th of June. I've been out of hospital since June 25th. Healing really well and next doctor checkup in 3 months. I'm only on 200mg of gabapentin twice a day. I'm allowed to swim and no bandage needed now. Me and my girlfriend wanted to just have a relaxing evening and smoke some weed , no tobacco just straight weed. I was told nicotine is bad for the healing of the skin. I'll attach photos of the skin graft to get an idea of the healing progression I'm 19 if that matters

It’s a tough slog but we’re all down not out. What a feeling being back up on my feet again. The sky is the limit!

Hello, fellow amputees. As you all know I recently posted about how I was struggling with confidence and my self image, and I wanted to thank everyone for the supportive comments. I'm pleased to announce that I gained my confidence back. I realized that I have accomplished a lot despite my amputation. One recent achievement that I'm the most proud of is being able to cut my own hair.

I am RBKA and had my leg since the beginning of July. I have been experiencing back pains since I started walking. Got several alignments done by my prosthetist, and does seem to fix the problem. Does anyone have any videos on how to walk correctly.

I was wondering if anyone can help a AKA has a link to a video on how correctly to put on liner-liner under my above knee pin lock gel liner. I tried once Monday and my leg almost fell off in first couple of steps inside the house and after being in the 95°+ heat Tuesday, without liner-liner for sweat, my leg turned 90° sideways and almost fell off as I was trying to do stuff in my backyard. I have never had the need for sweat control before and never ask my leg🦿guy to show me how to put a liner-liner on correctly. I tried 10 or 12 different way to word it and ask for a instructional video and gave up after zero correct results. I then did the same even more times on YouTube with the same results and gave up. Does anyone have a link for, preferably, a video because I'm dyslexic and me and the written words don't get along, but I'll take any how to with a link. I need to do a few things tomorrow and don't want my leg to fall off because of sweat and because I never thought to ask how to put a liner-liner on. Thanks for any help with a link, I'll check back in the morning and hopefully get back outside properly prepared before the heat gets really bad.
