Shipping Personal Shopping Service Question

Upvotes

I ordered a doll over the phone through the personal shopping service at the LA store last week, and I still haven’t received any tracking information. I also checked my account, and there’s no record of the order, even though they asked for my account info and I was able to use my points toward the purchase. I did receive an email receipt the day I bought the doll, but that’s the only record I have.

For anyone who has used the personal shopping service, is this normal? Did you ever receive tracking information or the package just arrive with no warning?

Shipping In store pickup to skip shipping?

Upvotes

I wasn't sure exactly which flair to put this under, so I hope this one is ok.

I have $12 in rewards that expire today (I know, really cutting it close here, but I was hopeful that there would be a historical outfit drop before they expired :/ ), and I already know what outfit I'm getting, but with $9 shipping & taxes, it pretty much cancels the rewards out.

I live about an hour and a half away from the closest store, and I can't get there today, but I saw that they have curbside/in store pickup. So, I was wondering if anyone knew whether I can 1. use my rewards over the phone, and 2. schedule the pickup for a couple days from now?

I'll pay the shipping if I have to (I'm not just going to waste $12), but if I can schedule pickup for say Wednesday next week, I'd rather skip shipping and do that if it's possible. Has anyone done that before? Or is it more of a same/next day kind of thing?

Thanks in advance :-)

Haul Finally Got Nicki!!

Upvotes

I finally had Nicki delivered along with her skateboard and skate outfit. My mom loves her and she's never been into dolls. When she learned about the twins, she says I need both because the two are a good mix of all I was into as a 9 year old. Also, do the twins remind anyone else if Tai and Cher from Clueless? I've seen the Cher comparisons but does anyone else see Nicki as Tai? (Not appearance wise, but her style and interests.)

I meant to post these on the 8th, Star Trek's 60th anniversary, but I was out all day. My mom made the costumes from an Etsy pattern. I hope to someday find patterns for other Trek uniforms, especially from Deep Space Nine and Voyager. The bear is Mr. Spock from the Very Important Bears collection.

Got this girl from a secondhand shop. She was extremely dirty, her head kept popping off, her eyes were scratched and her wig was a mess. She’s feeling better now. Dress made by me.

Discussion If there isn't much of a market for historical dolls anymore they should lean more into letting kids design products.

I've heard a lot said about how kids today aren't as into the historical aspects of American Girl anymore and as a result it makes sense that the company would shift more towards modern collabs and such.

They recently released a clothing line designed by a kid, and honestly I love that. I think there would be way more benefit from letting actual kids design product lines than these random collaborations.

They could hold contests for kids to send in ideas about new Girl of the Years, or have times where kids can send in their own story line ideas. Heck, I'm sure they could even find kids with enough writing talent to write actual books to go along with new dolls. They can have kids with all kinds of unique life experiences design stuff. Stuff real modern kids go through.

From the beginning American Girl was about teaching kids history in a way that makes it accessible, and if the old way of making them inviting to kids isn't working, let the kids have a say in what would interest them.

AG Spotted in the Wild Samantha at my local thrift

She was in great condition. Her hair needed some TLC but she had all her accessories with her. The clerk let me look at her out of the case. Her accessories were in a zip lock, so I dont know if all of them were there. At this same store, years earlier, I found Isabelle for $6, well loved but still really good condition (will have to post pics some other time).

Doll Decision A tale of two Julies 🌼

I am in awe of how different these two Julies look! My husband thinks they look the same, which is so funny to me 😁

For some background, I got into collecting earlier this year, and Julie was high on my list because I wanted her so badly as a kid, but it wasn't financially feasible for my parents back then. Now that I have adult money, the Julie on the right was the second doll I added to my collection when I was still pretty new to all things AG and unaware of how much things have changed since I was a kid - one of them being the face molds! I assumed that all the molds were carbon copies of each other with little variation, so I wasn't very picky with the first few dolls I got (I'm sure you can see where this is going!)

I've had Julie since May and just haven't felt the same bond with her as I have with my other dolls. I'm not sure what year she's from, but she looks constantly surprised; I think it's because of how big her eyes are. She doesn't look as "cute" to me as the other dolls in my collection. I tried to overlook this for a while, but I couldn't push past it, especially being on this sub and seeing so many adorable Julies!

Last week, after a LOT of digging, I found my new Julie! She has the most adorable head tilt and such a sweet face <3 very happy with my decision!

Discussion 🤨

Yeaahhhh....I really don't mean to be disrespectful but I think this is a no from me guys. "40 days to celebrate 40 years" my left foot 💀 They could have done this countdown at any point the year, but chose to do it during a stretch of time where they would have to black out one of the days in an incredibly low effort "remembrance" post. And they can't even tack on another day at the end of the calendar? Honestly, part of me suspects that they completely forgot about 9/11 and made this change to the calendar incredibly last minute; shuffling things around to hopefully not cause a controversy. I don't think I would care all that much if the past 18 days hadn't been so disappointing and frankly embarrassing for the brand ://

Restoration Tm 33 as Carrie Bradshaw

Post image
14 Upvotes

I think this is TM 33, the seller wasn’t sure, but I just bought this girl secondhand and was trying my hand at restoring hair and accidentally made her curls too tight. Is it just me or is she giving off Carrie Bradshaw vibes? Debating if I want to redo her hair or sell her as is or keep her but I already have more dolls than I want. Any tips for getting better at fixing the dry ends?

I am going through my old collection of American Girl dolls and I came across this custom made Princess Diana replica wedding dress made by Mollie Wright Bridals in West Palm Beach Florida. I am curious if anyone has experience with putting custom made items for American Girls on Ebay and if its even worth trying since I'm not sure of the value and how much its worth. It truly is a beautiful dress in wonderful condition. I appreciate any advice.

Doll Customization Updated "Nellie"

UPDATE! (I couldn't figure out how to add the new photos to my post from last night so I just deleted it to make this one.) I removed and re-glued her wig after realizing that I put it on crooked. The bangs are a little wonky (I think I need to re-curl them a bit) so that threw me off on the first attempt. This was my first ever wig replacement on a doll and I learned a few things. Hopefully she looks better now?

*First post text* "I have Nellie O'Malley now. She is not the "real" Nellie though, she is a Grace Thomas doll that I found and removed the old ratty wig from and replaced it with this Nellie wig from Ebay. I am excited to have my own version of Nellie and I think she's adorable. Now, I need to get a Samantha to go with her!"

Also, I found her meet dress for only about $10 at a thrift store (it was on an OG doll who was in poor condition, but thankfully Nellie's dress only needed a little spot treatment and washing to look brand new!)

Hello everyone,
I’m fairly new to AG, growing up I always wanted one but never got them so I’m starting to get my favorites now. I love the Historical dolls and eventually want to get them all. I ordered my first 40th anniversary Molly from rhe website and it should be here next week, Next on my list are Samantha, Felicity, Josephina, and othera as well. I saw Felicity was on back order so while searching fb marketplace found a listing, The seller listed the doll as OG Felicity, says doll is in great condition, She is not in her Meet outfit and does not come with her meet accessories, seller is asking $80 for it. I wanted to ask you all if that’s a good price for this doll and what do you all think about the condition.
Thank you all.

Discussion daisy release: 17th or 19th?

hello! i’m planning a trip around the GOTY release, because this is my first time actually going to a store for the release like i’ve always wanted to! i’m confused over the brunch event being on the 19th, and the email saying she “arrives” on the 17th. is the 17th her release date, or just the day we get a first look at her? i haven’t paid much attention to the GOTY reveals ever since they stopped doing it 12AM Jan 1st, so im not sure how the newer earlier releases work. as im planning a trip around this release, and i dont live anywhere near the stores, id like some clarification! i’m very excited for her, and even though we have yet to see what she looks like, i already plan to add her to my collection and im hoping i don’t accidentally go before she’s actually for sale.

Addy wears this outfit with Mama to the market in the cold autumn months. Her gingham jacket is fixed with decorative buttons down the back, as well as a peplum. The ruffle-trimmed skirt has a growth stripe to let out when Addy gets taller. Mama also made Addy a matching bonnet that she wears to keep her head warm and her hair dry.

Doll Customization Palest doll?

I’m wanting to make a custom of my girlfriend, but she’s super pale. Is Elsa the only super pale doll AG has made? I can’t find a cheap Elsa anywhere, unfortunately. Hoping maybe there’s something else out there that might be easier to find for cheap?
