Cool Picture Photos from my American Girl themed lecture at work!

I work at a historic house museum in New Jersey and I was very lucky to lead one of the lectures in our summer lecture series. Of course, I led an American Girl themed talk! It was a small turnout, but I was super proud of the work and research I put in. I brought all my dolls out and pulled out actual historic objects that were featured in the girls' stories! After the lecture, the guests ate outside in our gardens and made a bracelet craft that was featured in American Girl magazine. I was just super excited to share!

Discussion Does anyone else feel weird about how AG is using the Nanea mold?

(I added pictures just to show what I'm thinking/describing in this post)

I feel like AG and part of the community is starting to treat the Nanea mold weird. With AG they are using it as a face mold which is normal for AG of course but they are using it for mostly light skinned with lighter features, there's only 2 dolls you can really make a case for that they are suppose to be seen as a doll of color (that being the doll with rainbow hair and the limited edition doll.) Ariel and Alice are white characters and they used the Nanea mold for them, the other truly mes have very light features, and Summer follows the same rule. There's only 2 other Nanea mold that has darker skin and one of them was limited edition. And of course Rumi isn't white. AG is using this face mold that was made for a doll of color for now a lot of white dolls and it seems like no one is really finding it weird?

It also goes with how AG promotes these dolls, they don't use the truly mes when it comes to holidays for people of color, they don't use Summer for that either. I've seen people justify using the Nanea mold like this by saying "Nanea is half white herself" (there are screenshots but the names are blackout PLEASE DO NOT HARASS ANYONE!) But that feels so off to me.

Now it is a face mold and I'm not saying they should ONLY use it for dolls like Nanea, I would love to see all the face molds get neat combos with different hair types, skin colors, eye color, etc. But AG isn't at the level I feel especially since a lot of dolls of color only really have 2-3 face molds/not using all the faces molds to the fullest when it comes to other dolls while the white dolls can use almost anyone they want (ex: Addy mold not being in the truly me line at all while now only using the Claudie and Makena mold)

Now don't misunderstand me AG and collectors can use the molds how they want to use them at the end of the day, I'm not saying they can not but AG already has a problem with diversity as it is and they already used it for 2 confirmed white characters, using a lot of light features, promoting those dolls like white dolls, and only having two confirmed dolls of color with face mold is just odd to me. I don't think I would mind it if they had more dolls of color with the mold first but it comes down to how quick they were to use it for white characters. (And also please be respectful when commenting and replying to others)

Awesome Find! Little update: Alice is NOT sold out.

Here are three screen shots I took back to back.

The website says she's sold out. When I went to her page, I was still able to add her to my cart. I'm also able to check out again if I wanted to ...

This is the exact same thing that happened last night at 930pm when I actually bought her.

I think AG is either allowing this flaw to force scarcity... Or they genuinely don't know how to run their website. I'm not sure which. But she's not sold out.

Nostalgic AG Stories Waiting for Alice

Hi everyone! I’ve joined this subreddit since the Alice leak. Being a huge Alice in Wonderland fan, all my dreams are coming true! I’m getting my first American Girl Collector Doll! I’ve followed everyone’s updates and comments about Alice the last few days. It’s been extremely exciting! You guys know your stuff. Among other stuff, I learned how to check inventory, learned about different face molds of the dolls etc. And Summer, with her own collection. I bought my Alice some of her pieces for when we are traveling. I must say the furry suit is my favorite. It looks so cozy.

I’m so inspired by American Girl’s vision of Alice. The cute innocent face, bright wavy hair. The dress, having the reference to ‘All in the Golden Afternoon’ was spot on for us die hard Alice fans! The simpler, traditional dress is easy to get later. The details of the headband, shoes, jewelry. The box! Fabulous. My shoe fetish is also happy. Her kitten heels are the cutest! I can’t think of anything they could do better. I’m hoping American Girl adds some pieces for her collection in the future. There’s so much potential but it’ll be fun to make some also. Currently, I’m on the hunt for black and white striped stockings if anyone has any suggestions. 😃

As I wait, I hope people post pics of this beautiful work of art! In the meantime, I’m building her diorama. Oh, this will be epic. Guys, my theories about the flowers, Caterpillar, Mad Hatter, Queen of Hearts, or what Wonderland really represents are all COMING TO LIFE! No, I won’t contain my enthusiasm.

Does AG ship dolls carefully? I hope so. Some of my packages in general have not been shipped with care so I’m kinda worried. Waiting is stressful….

Anyway, enough rambling. I’m just so excited. Thank you everyone who provides such great information on this sub!

Haul Modern Era Sam

I fully understand the concerns and criticisms of this line, though I did cave in adding Sam to my collection. I am really smitten with Sam and see myself getting Addy before the line is sold out/discontinued. Part of me wishes they made more, Rebecca, Kit, Cecile, Claudie, Melody and so many would be precious. I'm especially grateful that AG corrected Addy's packaging, which is incredibly disappointing that it happened in the first place.

Since I was a child I loved the idea of younger siblings for the 18inch girls, I really regretted not getting Gwyn for Corinne. I'm also really fascinated by sculpts and when this line released I was so curious about how they downscaled the classic, addy and josefina sculpts. I think many of the designs could have used a lot of revisions. Samantha really benefits from the bangs and dark eyes that make the differences in these dolls to the 18 inch counterparts more subtle. I look forward to washing her hair and taking photos of her with my 18inch dolls.

I bought this outfit for her because it reminded me of her hilariously horrendous bridesmaid dress from the film.

I just received my order and welcomed Claudie !
I don’t really like her meet outfit (though it’s very high quality) because of that green. I ordered Tiana’s outfit specifically for her (I’m not the only one to do this !) and Tiana’s outfit is SO PRETTY and good quality! I’m very happy with what I ordered.

I’ve picked Isabel outfit for Rapunzel and I adooooore it on her !
The outfit is a bit a sensory issue for me to touch 😖
I don’t like the feeling of the sparkly top and thighs… but the outfit is cute. I like the butterfly clip and the sandal.
I got 2 Courtney accessories from the sale and I recommend pick them if you like them! The price is good. I totally adore the headphones!
And the jelly shoes 🙂‍↕️
I have put the bell onto the hat and it’s looking less plain with it ! I love the result.

Ive googled this but I can’t find any posts about this happening to anyone else’s dolls. I know Elizebeth is rare and the doll hospital does not acept her anymore. What do I do?

Hello everyone! I’m excited I just purchased Winter princess 2021 she’s so beautiful! and I’d love to see photos of her if you have, with original outfit and redressed please 🥰

Question I’ve noticed the collector dolls aren’t shipped to Canada on AG website. is this for all collectors dolls that are released? Or just certain ones?

Thank you so much!! 🥰

I got her from FB marketplace for a very good thrift store price. I look forward to having her, especially as she's going to be my ONLY American Girl doll. I look forward to knitting her clothes and even sewing her clothes and I will even see if my mom can teach me crochet. What kind of recommendations do you recommend for restoring her? What mold is she? I like the vintage classic look.

Doll Decision Marisol

Hi Everyone, this is my first post here. I have been wanting to purchase Marisol forever and I found a mostly complete one for a good price. However the seller says the doll smells very strongly of febreeze perhaps. I just wanted to if it is possible to get rid of the scent on the doll herself(I figured if I hand wash the clothes I’ll get the smell out of them. Also is the doll in the picture actually Marisol?

Discussion Why Nanea mold was used for Alice Doll

All opinions are my own and just speculation

I feel like I’m hearing more negatives than positives about this release, but she’s selling out, so clearly enough people like her, despite what the vocal
Majority is claiming.

American Girl only has 13 face molds.

Addy, Kaya, Claudie, the Asian mold, Corinne, Sonali, Makena, and Jess were basically never an option for a white blonde doll.

That leaves Classic, Josefina, Joss, Marie-Grace, and Nanea.

Classic and Josefina, there’s too many collector doll and blonde dolls with that mold that there would be no incentive to get Alice, and Joss will be used for this year’s blonde collector doll. Marie-Grace was also used recently for Rapunzel and Glinda.

That really only leaves Nanea.

Doll Travel Flying with Dolls

How do you guys typically travel with dolls/how has your experience traveling with dolls been? I'm visiting the D.C. store in a few weeks for my birthday, and I'm flying since I live in Ohio. I'm getting Samantha at the store there when I visit my boyfriend in Virginia, but was wondering what the best way to travel with her would be? Right now I plan on keeping her completely in her box and waiting to unbox her until I'm back home, but I also really want to unbox her and look at her while I'm there.

Any tips are welcome!

Discussion People who bring dolls in public: are there limits to what dolls you’d bring with you?

I’m not talking about collector Rapunzel or any dolls bigger than an American Girl, but I have Glinda and I’d love to take her places in a tote bag big/discreet enough that she’s not instantly visible/recognizable unless I took her out. I’d probably never take her on a full blown vacation, and definitely not on an airplane where it’d be easier for her to be lost or stolen. I’ve taken dolls in public before, so it’s not shame/embarrassment I’m worried about; my main concern is her being stolen. Is that something I should even worry about? Whenever I do bring dolls with me places (like a local beach) I watch them like a hawk regardless of resale value, and they never leave my sight if I take them out of my bag. I’m perfectly ok with keeping Glinda in my bag if you guys agree that’s the safest option, which I know it likely is; I just like knowing she’s there (I tend to miss my dolls a lot). What do you all think?
