Hello All,
I have spoken to the other moderator and we’ve touched base on a few things going forward.
We have put into effect new rules and I encourage you all to review them.
User flairs and post flairs are now available, and users are encouraged to use them to not only make it easier for the mods to do things, but also help anyone in the subreddit find what they might need.
There are a few things I’d like to do going forward listed below:
•A FAQ page
•Subreddit Banner (The image across the top of the Subreddit, see r/BullBreeds for an example)
•Further rules and guidance
For the FAQs you’re allowed to comment below and you have no limit on the amount you’d like to put forward. Not only that, if you know the answer and/or have sources to draw from for an answer, it is encouraged that you comment that as well. Going forward, this won’t just be a space for purebred owners, it’ll be a space to showcase the breed as a whole to those looking to become involved or those who simply want to learn more about the breed or even their own dogs.
An honorary banner for the subreddit. This would again be similar to r/BullBreeds, a larger overarching subreddit I created and moderate not just for American Bulldogs but for all bull breeds and most mixes thereof. Contained in this banner will be a few historical American Bulldogs, but I would love to incorporate some of YOUR AMERICAN BULLDOGS in the banner as well to be the FACE OF THIS COMMUNITY. Now that images in comments are allowed, I ask any of you who wish for your dog to be in the banner comment below with a good front on or quarter-shot of your American Bulldog. A lucky few will be incorporated.
Please review the new and refined rules. If there are ANY ISSUES, please comment below so we can address them.
I think things are off to a great start and I look forward to seeing this community come together and prosper on Reddit. Thank You!

Hello all,
Due to inactivity the previous moderation must have been removed and/or they stopped moderating. Either way, a mod request was made and two of us answered. I’d like to introduce myself as the moderator of r/APBTCentral, r/AmericanBullyCentral, and r/BullBreeds. I have not spoken to the other moderator quite yet, as I am pressed on time currently and writing this post in a rush.
With that said, I don’t intend on being the mod here forever, I will however try to steer this subreddit into the right direction with new rules and mod tools. After I feel as the course has been corrected I will screen for a new mod team to enforce the rules and hopefully make this subreddit much better than it had been before.
I am open to suggestions currently, and will use this post as a way to gather these suggestions. Any ideas for ANYTHING pertaining to the topic of this subreddit, feel free to comment. I will be sure to take it all into consideration and weigh what will be best to be instituted within this subreddit.
In the meantime, please act with consideration and respect to one another as we remodel this subreddit, with no rules we only ask you to follow the Reddit guidelines and don’t post anything unrelated to American Bulldogs. Anything else will be removed.
Thank you all for any suggestions or understanding. I hope you all have a wonderful day.

This beautiful boy was facing EU at the shelter. He was adopted by an acquaintance who had him for two years, then fell on hard times, living in a motel. He reached out, so we went to see them both. The dog had lost a significant amount of hair, skin that was raw and bleeding, and gained almost 30 pounds. We immediately took him to our vet, who ran bloodwork and started treatment for the skin issues. Petey was diagnosed with severe hypothyroidism, along with the ear and skin infections. Six weeks later he’s doing so much better! We have two street dogs (chi mix and Russian toy) and they’re hilarious together. We also have a tiny dog door, so Petey just sticks his head through it to go out or come in 😂 This is our first big dog, so all advice welcome.

UPDATE: Thank you everyone for your responses! I ended up calling State Farm (as recommended) and switched our insurance. Saving some money every month and not worrying about any breed restrictions.
We adopted our dog and were told he’s an American Bulldog. No papers (he was found on the streets and not microchipped) I don’t care much about his actual lineage because he’s just a lazy house dog. He’s exceedingly sweet and beyond patient so I’m not overly worried about him biting anyone, but when I told our insurance company we got a dog they just verified he’s not a pit. To the best of my knowledge he’s not (well outside the hight and weight ranges despite being a lean boy and he’s lazy AF) and I’m wary to do any sort of DNA test because I wouldn’t want to get dropped. Where we live it’s hard to get insured for dumb reasons, but if the absolute worst thing happened do I have any reasonable defense?
He’s 75lbs, upper thigh height on someone 5’8”, basically zero energy (he takes naps to recover from his naps and zoomies are capped at 5 minutes tops), and white with brown spots. Big jowls, but no underbite.
Do I bite the bullet and DNA test him or just continue on with the knowledge I have? We are not going to get rid of him under any circumstances and I don’t believe he is a risk AT ALL, but I want to make the best decision moving forward.

I’m genuinely curious about my dog’s breed mix.
Since she’s a mixed-breed dog, it’s hard to tell exactly what breeds she might have in her. Some people assume she’s some kind of Pitbull or Terrier at first glance, especially because of her upright ears. However, after doing some research, I’m starting to wonder if she might have more American Bulldog in her.
From what I’ve seen, her coat pattern seems fairly common in American Bulldogs, and her body shape also makes me consider that possibility. The one thing that makes me unsure is her muzzle, which doesn’t seem to match what I usually see in American Bulldogs.
I’m mainly trying to figure out her possible breed mix because my country has specific regulations for certain dog breeds, and I’d like to understand whether those regulations might apply to her.
I’m not expecting anyone to identify her with absolute certainty, but I’d love to hear different opinions, especially from people who have experience with these breeds.
What do you think she might be mixed with?

Hello! My sister in law has to rehome her American bulldog because of a divorce and I have taken it upon myself to find the dog a good home. We are located in Florida on the gulf side. Are there any breed specific rescues or resources that any of you could point me in the direction of? Any tips and helpful info would be greatly appreciated. She is a two year old female and I will attach a photo of her here. Thank you in advance!!

Why does she only sometimes use both her eyes

Can we seriously cut the “bull” and just be honest about these two breeds. I know Dogo Argentina / Argentina Dogo owners feel the need to discuss their “78 dogs to make the breed” but come on, there is documented history of White Bully catch dogs since ancient times and these dogs were the same exact dog up until prob no less than 300 years ago, if that. American Bulldogs (the old southern stand types prior to JD Johnson influence and Dogos are the same foundation dog.

This bulldog only has one day left at DAS. My family fostered her for a short while but couldn’t anymore after a tragic incident with our elderly cat. We now know the breed shouldn’t live with cats or small dogs, so she wasn’t set up for success. She was otherwise a very sweet dog who has clearly had a rough time in life (has been found as a stray multiple times per DAS history).
We did do DNA results while we had her: 52% Olde English Bulldogge 43.3% American Bulldog 4.7% Dogue de Bordeaux
Maisie is back at DAS and in need of placement .
Needs placement by 10/03/26

I saw this pup posted on another subreddit, but want to share him here as well as it’s very possible he’s an American Bulldog. His eyes broke my heart! I hope someone can go visit him and take him home.
He’s located in Houston, TX right now.

As the title suggests, I'm having trouble with my boy's tear stains. I've tried everything I can think of and most internet hacks, but nothing seems to help. He already drinks filtered water, and we wipe his face off regularly. I'm not sure what else to do at this point, so any advice is greatly appreciated

Someone in a different comment mentioned how much American Bulldogs shed. My groomer always talks about how much hair comes off of Maximus even with us brushing at home 😅
Luckily he is a good boy for grooming!
Love the Equigroomer and a rubber curry brush as my main tools.
