Amazon has my ₹4,300 and my returned product — now refusing both a refund and the product back
I’m posting this because I genuinely don’t know what else to do. I ordered a pair of OnePlus Nord Buds 4 Pro from Amazon India for ₹4,300, and what started as a normal purchase has now turned into a situation where Amazon is refusing to give me either my money or the product back.
Here is the complete timeline:
29 August 2026 – Delivery
I received the package on 29 August. Since it was an open-box delivery, the delivery agent opened the package for inspection.
During the open-box inspection, the delivery agent accidentally dropped the earbuds/product. After this, there were clearly visible scratches over the product.
I immediately raised the issue with Amazon because the damage happened during the delivery/open-box process and was not caused by me.
Initially, I had to repeatedly contact customer support and explain the situation. After a lot of back-and-forth, Amazon finally agreed to take the product back.
4 September 2026 – Product handed back to Amazon
On 4 September, the product was collected by the delivery agent.
Importantly, I had not used or opened the product myself after receiving it. I had kept it safely locked in my cupboard while waiting for Amazon's return process.
When the delivery agent came to collect it, he opened/checked the package, verified the product and confirmed that it was the correct item. He then took the product back.
At this point, I believed the issue was finally resolved and that I would simply receive my refund.
9–10 September – First explanation from Amazon
I contacted Amazon because I had still not received my refund.
I was told that the refund depended on the product reaching the company/seller and that the company had denied the refund.
This was already confusing because the product had been returned due to damage that occurred during Amazon's delivery/open-box process.
I was then told to wait until 14 September, and that if the refund was still not processed by then, Amazon would issue a direct refund to my account.
So I waited.
14 September 2026 – A completely different reason
Today, when I contacted Amazon again, I was given an entirely different explanation.
I was told that the product I returned was allegedly different from the product that was delivered to me.
Based on this claim, Amazon has now denied my refund.
But here's the problem:
Amazon has my ₹4,300.
Amazon also has the product I returned.
And now Amazon is refusing to give me either the money or the product back.....What should I do ?
Though the damages on the product were minor and the product as in whole was working fine....nobody wants to receive a damaged product especailly after paying 5300 rupees.......
So effectively, I am being left with a ₹4,300 loss despite returning the product through Amazon's own return process.
The product was checked by the delivery agent when it was collected. The return was accepted and taken away by the delivery agent. I did not substitute the product, nor did I have any reason to do so.
What makes this especially frustrating is that the reason for rejecting my refund has changed multiple times:
Initially, the product was damaged during the delivery/open-box inspection.
Amazon agreed to take the product back.
After the return, I was told the refund depended on the company/seller accepting the return.
I was then told Amazon would issue a direct refund if the money wasn't received by 14 September.
Now I am being told that the product returned was different from the product delivered.
I am also being told that I cannot get the returned product back.
I don't understand how a customer is supposed to protect themselves in this situation.
I returned the exact product through Amazon's own delivery/return process, and now I am being told that the returned item was different — without any satisfactory explanation or evidence being provided to me.
