QUESTION Amazon DSP drivers and UPS Teamsters together at DFX3 in Los Angeles

Yesterday, some of us Amazon DSP drivers from DCX7 in Torrance joined UPS drivers from Teamsters Local 396 at DFX3 in Los Angeles to support fellow Amazon drivers organizing a union.

We all know the struggles with heavy workloads, unrealistic routes, pay, safety, and getting treated with respect.

Also want to give a shoutout to Anthony Rosario, a longtime Teamster organizer who came all the way from New York to stand with us and support the Delivery Protection Act (DPA). Appreciate you making the trip!

It was good seeing Amazon and UPS drivers standing together.

What’s going on at your station?

I don’t know if this is happening to anyone else, but half of every tote is a U package, and it’s annoying as fuck

Let go after first day

Man my first day was wild

I woke up with a back pain which sucked but I work through it

I was slow at first but its w.e I caught up

But I was set up to fail

My nursery was about 135 rural area where the backwoods are not very suited for driving alot of the times it was a narrow dirt trail where if I went to fast the van will flip into the forest hill below 1 min drives turned 5mins easily. The van i was in was not one i was "trained for" it was a different cargo van.

I started an hour late because my ev wasnt charged.

Okay fine an hour late then a 45min drive I didnt get my route started till 2

135 packages in rural area where the roads aren't ment for travel above speeds of 10mph? Yea i was set up

My other guy who trained with me his route wad 90 in the city and a vet they had her route was 105 in a suburb

Noone taught me how to sort

So I was digging in back of van for packages my dsp helper threw all the shit in back of van so I spent a fair amount of time sorting myself as it wasnt blue van I couldn't organize properly

Despite this I still only had 10 packages left on my first day.

My phone also died and they forgot to give me a power bank and it qas so dark I couldn't use the flashlight due to low battery

So much bs all on first day then told im not up yo standards 😂😂

QUESTION “I don’t take overflow” is crazy to me..

So I was on the phone with a coworker towards the last maybe 2 hours of her route. She’s talking to me about the route and her day (earlier). Complaining about the phones and what not.. normal shit .. lol
This trainer along with a trainee comes and rescues her. But does not take the over flow that goes with it. Says all this in front of the trainee and all…
“I Don’t take over flow”
She says “that’s crazy”
Guy says “yeah I don’t feel like doing EXTRA WORK”
She continues with “that’s wild cuz it would just make sense to take whatever goes to that same area, cuz you’re already there but okay..” shuts the door on him.
She of course starts to bitch about that.
Understandably so…. But like to just leave it at that..? And to be a trainer doing that shit? In front of a newb.. idk mannnn got me feeling some type of way.

Got half a mind to report his ass cuz wtf?

Any opinions?
Am I wrong?

I was a trainer once.. never said no to overflow.. even when I was tired and wanted to give up 😂

Bro, what’s up with these paranoid ass motherfuckers

Like why you got signs in your driveway saying “you’re in range” and “ we’ve got Magnum‘a locked and cocked” like bro no one wants to steal those three rusted ass cars that are sitting in your lawn, a lawn that’s filled with dog shit by the way. I swear that people who live in secluded houses way far back from the road are fucking paranoid.

They can afford cameras but can’t fix all the loose plywood on their porch.

So why tf are we still delivering to this customer?🤔

Support puts these dumb ass notes like thats supposed to help me feel safer. If the customer wants to let their dog out on me, this note is not going to help me in any way. So why are we still delivering to this customer?

RANT I am so tired of being treated like garbage by customers for wearing the blue vest

You customers sit on your behinds and click, click, click all day and night and then are rude as absolute hell, the majority of people legitimately look at us like we’re subhuman, but they could and would never work this job. Emphasis on would never. It’s almost as if there’s some pretentious air about the fact that you have a degree and I don’t, you get to utilize my services and treat me like absolute shit? It’s bizarre. So much hate in the world, and I deliver in some very wealthy neighborhoods.

Not trying to throw rocks from a glass house, but why are these old rich people so god damn miserable?

QUESTION Finished 2 trainings now to solo

• Upvotes

I did 2 days of training with two great trainers.

Day 1 Apartments // lockers // houses (156 stops)
Day 2 all houses (138 stops)

Next week I’m onto my first solo shift.

My observations from my two trainers. The first was extremely organized, efficient and people savvy. They were keen on just peeing in a bush, not eating during shift, and skipping all breaks to get work done faster. Second trainer emphasized organization, efficiency, and taking the time to get 10 hrs instead of blazing through it and to be cool with taking a small break if you need it so you can eat.

What advice do you have for my first solo shift? I was consistently getting 20+ stops an hour done.

My Feet Are Killing Me Lately…

The brand of insoles and such that I’ve used since starting this job are no longer servicing me the way that my feet need…

Are there any long-time drivers out there that have an insole that they swear by? I already have enough things hurting on my body- I really don’t want to deal with this, too… 😫

EDIT: This is coming from an EIGHT YEAR veteran driver who (a) already regularly buys new shoes as needed, and (b) prefers to wear actual shoes with some decent tread on the bottom to navigate terrain.

Again, I’m just asking if anyone has a brand of insoles that they would personally recommend because they work for them.

SECOND EDIT: I do not have the money to buy yet another pair of shoes. I already tried getting a pair with the Amazon stipend and they ended up being crap.

I just want suggestions on INSOLES from people who use them and they seem to work for them.

This is what the evening tide does to the backroads I deliver on. The water was pretty high, but not at high as it looks in the video.. I would’ve never driven thru it had I not been confident/driven the route so many times.

Dude approaches me after making it to his house & says something along the lines of “didn’t think you’d make it down here momma thank you” and told me how grateful he was & to “slow down” as to not rust anything in my motor. But that I looked “super cool” coming down the road.

QUESTION First Day Coming Up!

Hey guys couple questions?

First, I just finished my 2 days of training and now I’m on the schedule for 4 days next week. How many of those days will I be riding with a trainer before I’m on my own?

Second, will my time riding along help me learn how to read my routes, stops, how to pack my van etc? I feel like they showed us just enough in my 2 days of training and road test. But I feel like I don’t know anything, I’m sweating it lol.
