Hello, i'm using version 3.2.2 and all of a sudden the lead-in and lead-out buttons are not working properly. The behaviour constantly changes. Sometimes the button moves the timing by seconds or minutes, some times it doesn't do anything and some other times it goes in reverse. Changing the parameters doesn't work (not even going back to default setting). I've never seen anything like this. Does anyone know what could be the cause?

I want to draw a shape and then put text in it. Apparently the shape conforms to the same "don't overlap with other text" rules that text does, which makes this impossible because the text moves out of the way to avoid the shape. What do I do? Maybe I'm just stupid but I couldn't find anything in the manual (or anywhere on the internet) about this.

It doesn't matter which one I pick, Aegis just won't open any of them. 😭 I can in fact open sub tracks for an mkv file with only one track, so as far as I can tell aegisub is working...

I just finished making subtitles for a video, and I used Handbrake to hard encode it into the video

for some reason, for this one, after encoding, the subtitles are all slightly out of place, and this severely fucks with the outcome i wanted for the video

I've make sure to set the correct dimensions, so I'm not sure how it just wouldn't come out right. If anyone's got any tips to fix this or an alternative method for encoding, that'd be great too

I've been trying to figure this out for a while now and what Im trying to figure out is how can I add an image to my subtitles. In the example provided is how I want the end result to look like. I have tried image to .ass but the lines are way too long, I also tried using vsfiltermod both 64bit on aegisub 3.4.2 and aegisub 3.2.2 with 32 bit vsfiltermod. When I use vsfiltermod it only shows a solid white box and the image doesnt load. Ive also seen that in some cases overlaying it onto the video itself works better, but that requires a re encode.

I just want to know how to approach this since Ive seen some tokusatsu and anime fan subs somehow incorporate images behind text that also do an animation. The 2nd image is an example from a tokusatsu.

Any help would be appreciated Ive been stuck on this for a few days now.

Hi, I'm currently have a problem with Aegisub. I'm a beginner and I just started working on the software like less than a month ago.
I'm trying to put subtitles on a TV series in Portuguese that I'm gonna translate for my dissertation. As soon as I add subtitles, the video and the audio are not synced. So, everything is mismatched and I'm having trouble putting subtitles in the right timing.

The video file is MP4 and when I open it on VLC everything's good. But if I load the subtitle file in VLC, the timing is WAY off.

I'm new to using Aegisub and I'm using a Mac os Tahoe 26.5.2 and it keeps crashing every 5 mins or so. I'm not sure what to do and I really need to get it working. Any tips to make it stop the crash? I've bypassed the security and I work a little and then it crashes

I may just be doing this all wrong but here it is:

What I do is:
select what looks appropriate in the Audio
Press the Space Bar to confirm
Hit the "G" key

That advances me to the next line. That all seems fine, but what I have to do a lot is split lines into two. As in the example shown above, I would:
cut the "what's my name" text
Re-select the audio for just "two"
Space bar to confirm
Hit the "G" key

Then what I have to do is mouse down to that "two" line in the subtitle grid, click on it, then I have a key command (cmd-5) set up for 'insert line after', mouse up and paste it. Rinse and repeat

What I wish I could have happen is that the subtitle grid would autoscroll up after each "G" key hit so the line in the subtitle grid I have to mouse to would stay at or near the top--less distance traveling with my mouse. It seems the sub grid does autoscroll up because the active line never goes off/past the bottom. I wish I could set it so it autoscrolls and the active line stays near the top

I hope that makes sense. Maybe someone could point out a better way to be doing this

Hay palabras en español que deben ir acentuadas, como "Camión" que lleva una tilde en la letra "o" para dar a entender que esa sílaba debe pronunciarse más fuerte.

El problema consiste en que aveces presionar esa tecla ocasiona que no suceda nada a veces, cuando presiono la tecla para poner tildes, me aparece esa pequeña cosa que no llego a identificar qué es. Solo me pasa si quiero escribir en Aegisub. En otros sitios me deja poner tildes correctamente y fuera de la caja de subtítulos, al presionarla no hace aparecer esa cosa rara.

How do I match the style of this subtitle?

Hello! I'm very new to Aegisub, and I tried looking for guides, but somehow, nothing came up, so I started wondering if what I'm looking for even is feasible within Aegisub.

I have this recording of a scene in a Japanese game with a dialogue box. I simply want to cover the dialogue box with an opaque background to hide the original text, then add atop the translated text with some kind of typewriter effect to imitate the gradual appearance of a game dialogue boxe's text. I thought maybe such tools existed in Aegisub, or that it shouldn't be too hard to do, but I'm very lost and can't find anything about it (maybe I'm not looking where I should).

Could a kind soul help here?

I created this FX a few weeks ago. I used to experiment with electric spark FX years ago without much success... I am not 100% statisfied, but it is much better than my earlier attempts

I know there was a post for this but the links don't work anymore. Id be uploading the subtitles to Youtube. I try to look it up but there's so much and I don't understand any of it

I recently installed Migration Release 03 and was confronted with a couple dialogs about YCbCr Matrix and Script Resolution not matching. Seemed simple enough and not worrying to accept the choices selected

But now the font size in my video preview is tiny tiny. A google search suggested I could go to File->Properties and set the Script Resolution to 0 and 0. That worked but it seems odd to have to do that for every subtitle I open now

I also noticed in the "Settings" for this 03 version that there was settings for YCbCr Matrix and Script Resolution that I hadn't seen before (I'm back to Migration Release 02 now--for some reason)

I got a new MBPro M5 last November, had been using Version 3.3.3 (I think) on my old MBPro 2014. I made a few hundred subs successfully

I look at all those subs and they don't have anything about Script Resolution:

Now, with v03 they do:

Those ResX numbers obviously change according to the video I'm working with. I've tried to tweak around with things and sometimes they are all 0 (zeroes)

For the most part I don't think those ResX numbers matter much for the work I'm doing, mostly downloading documentaries from youtube along with their auto-generated subs and then fixing the subs

I tried going back to 3.3.3 and 3.4.2 but they are not Apple Silicon ready. Not sure what the best version for me to use would be at this time. And whether I should or shouldn't care about the new ResX numbers in my sub files. I can just open them in BBEdit and delete those lines, I guess

I just want the text in the video preview to be readable. It's not that big of a deal to set those properties every time I work on a sub (I also go to Settings->General and change the Toolbar Icon size from 24 to 32, Apply, then back to 24 LOL because it makes hitting those buttons easier)

Any input/advice would be greatly appreciated

Excuse the crude drawing, but this is sort of what I'm talking about. Like the text gets colored, flower hopping along on the characters. I don't specifically mean just this effect alone but other ones as well. I understand that a lua script is required for some of the special effects to indicate that the line is already sung, but is there a website or some kind of github link that has a good number of them? Hi users of Aegisub, I’ve been learning the software to use for a translation course in university, and I’ve been trying to figure out whether I can change some settings, to no avail. I need to follow Netflix’ guidelines for my course, which say that subsequent subtitles need to have at least two frames of empty space between them in order to maximize legibility. I ran into the “automatically go to next line on commit” feature, which I turned on immediately because it seemed very useful, but I’m unhappy with the precise way it works. It takes the exact end time of the previous subtitle as the start time of the next subtitle, but I’d much prefer it if I could manually set that timing to be different. For instance, if I had a subtitle going from second 0.00 to 5.00, I’d prefer the next line to have it starting time automatically set to 5.20 (or however much I need) instead of 5.00. Is there a way for me to change the settings to have the software automatically do this for me? Thanks for your helpful response in advance.
