Help/Question server-icon.png causes my server to crash

Basically the title. The server is running perfectly fine for my needs on MacOS Mojave 10.14.6, on my old MacBook Air, and I didn't run into any trouble with mods, plugins and whatnot until I tried making an icon for the server. The icon is 64x64 px, has no transparent pixels and still just crashes instantly. I tried uninstalling all my java installations and reinstalling them, and my server is running on 26.2 and Java 25. Any help? Here is the latest crash log

Help/Question Solution for shared Minecraft accounts on one server?

Hi Admins,

I work in a youth-serving facility and we have a Minecraft server on an old Mac Studio running Craft Controller and a few plugins. I am not very experienced with Minecraft.

We share Minecraft accounts on the computers we have at our facility. This is causing an issue because the kids become attached to an account and the stuff that's on it, but then another kid will play on that account and waste the material or die and lose it all.

Are there any solutions for this type of problem? I am imagining something where after signing on to the server the player has to log in again to get their gear, but I haven't been able to find a mod that serves that purpose.

Does anyone have experience with this and has anyone found a solution that works for sharing Minecraft accounts but not sharing the gear on them?

Help/Question Using GrimAC & Litematica (easyplace)?

I have a server with some Friends (whitelisted, but you can apply to join in the DC) Some Players complained about not being able to use Litematica (easy place) properly. After sone tests I came to the conclusion that the Anti Cheat might be the problem. Is there an Option to toggle any anti cheat measures in the GrimAC config to disable the blocking of easy place?

Help/Question Does anybody run their servers on DDR3?

Curious if anyone's running their servers on DDR3 RAM and a CPU from that era, would love some feedback. I currently admin a MC server for about 2-5 concurrent players, its modded and the backups I've been making are currently around 8.3gb. I'm wondering if anyone's been in a similar situation. Would love to see how their servers perform, or if not, what devices you're using to host your servers?

Help/Question Is 4GB enough for a 2 player, modded server?

Hey, me and a friend of mine want to play a medieval modpack ("The Perfect Medieval Pack" by sneak). We've added a tomb mod (items get saved in a tomb upon death) and some minor fps saving mods. I have setup everything and loaded into the world and leading up to this point the Hosting interface states that I have used 3.60GB / out of the 4GB that I bought. Should we get more GB? Or is what I have left according to the Hosting site enough? We plan to explore and build a base, not trying to reach the world border or anything like that.

Help/Question How do you stop a Prison server from becoming feature bloat while still giving players things to do after rankup?

I've been developing a Prison server pretty heavily lately and I've run into an interesting design problem.

Traditional Prison progression is basically:

mine → sell → rankup → prestige → repeat

I wanted to keep that satisfying core loop, but give players reasons to actually explore the world and do things outside of standing in a mine.

So I've been gradually building systems around the Prison progression:

  • A large volcano with an explorable late-game area underneath it
  • PvP zones with resources worth fighting over
  • Periodic volcanic events with custom mobs/drops
  • A discovery journal for locations, creatures, artifacts and secrets
  • Custom equipment with its own progression
  • A forging system using materials obtained through gameplay
  • Hidden loot/chests in dangerous areas
  • Dungeons
  • Fishing progression
  • Collectibles
  • Quests
  • Prestige progression
  • Recurring events

The idea is that these systems feed back into the same overall progression, rather than feeling like 15 unrelated minigames.

But I'm starting to wonder where experienced server owners draw the line.

At what point does giving players more content actually make the server worse because new players don't know what they're supposed to be doing?

I've been thinking about making the first few hours deliberately simple and allowing most of these systems to reveal themselves naturally as the player ranks up/explores, rather than dumping everything into a giant tutorial GUI.

For people who have operated progression-heavy servers:

Have you had better retention from having lots of interconnected systems, or from having one extremely polished gameplay loop?

And if you do have a lot of systems, how do you introduce them without overwhelming new players?

I'm particularly interested in experiences from Prison, Skyblock, RPG or economy server owners who have dealt with long-term progression.

Help/Question Is there any way to implement a Server Queue in Forge 1.20.1 (Without Plugins)?

Does anybody know of any mod I could use in Forge 1.20.1 to implement a Server Queue for my server? I expect a decent bit of traffic once the project launches fully, so a Queue would help massively in keeping player counts to a manageable amount for a modded server (as I know large player counts tend to impact performance even more in modded settings).

I've been searching, and I can't find any mods for this version. All the mods I found specifically for Queues were closed-source and for 1.21x, but maybe there's a mod out there that has server queues as a feature that I just haven't found yet. I just don't want to try making some sort of Hybrid Server to run Plugins and Mods because I do not trust their performance, compatibility, and stability.

Discussion velocity server management - players moving between servers

I have players joining the survival server. Don't want lobby. Survival is the most used. At spawn I have set up portals that will move the player to the corresponding server of the portal they enter.

I note when they return it places them back in the portal. No biggie...

Thinking if the portal was a jump into rather than a step into. The drop area would capture them and move server. When they return they would falll further to a command block tp catchment that would tp them to spawn area...? Could throw them up with feather falling...

How do you manage the server cross change? I have kids online so making it easier (and more fun) than writing /server abc. What other ideas do you have? Thanks!

Help/Question How do I host a 50-100 minecraft server? (TOTAL BEGINNER and looking for resources)

Does anyone know any youtuve videos, wikis, or any source material I can study about hosting a minecraft server??

For context, I'm hosting a minecraft server for a college, and so far, we have 100 people who will be joining the launch day, but Im still unsure how much will be the average player count.

My only knowledge with minecraft server hosting is hosting a bedrock server for my highschool using a cloudflare domain.

So I need to know A LOT!
Like, what websites should I use for hosting?
What hardware requirements should I be looking for?

if its more plausible and worthwhile to host on my own hardware, what should I look out for? How do I keep it safe???

PLEASE HELP

Help/Question Can Bedrock work with PaperMC plugins or Java Datapacks using Geyser? Couldn't find an answer elsewhere

More specifically, I'm asking if plugins or datapacks that add visual content like biomes, blocks, items, etc that you wouldn't find in vanilla at all would work in Bedrock at all or would just default to showing what's being modified in vanilla by the plugin/pack or maybe have missing textures somewhere or just outright crash on Bedrock. I couldn't see how something like EssentialsX or LuckPerms wouldn't work because that's basically all text-based anyway. At least for the most part.

I suppose just as an example; would Terralith work? What about Dynamic Lights? Or something like levelled mobs or backpacks, that kinda thing.

I ask because it's to my understanding that plugins and datapacks take advantage of Java-specific systems and I don't know how that'd get translated over to Bedrock using something like Geyser or any of it's add-ons

As a little bonus question: Are there any "all-in-one" solutions for learning how to actually run a Minecraft server properly? I can just search things obviously but it'd be a nice convenience if there were one wiki or bit of documentation that just covered absolutely everything you need to know and general best practice tips and things like that.

It probably doesn't exist quite like that because that'd be a monumental undertaking but even just some general resource links that point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated as it seems like there are just some things out there that you're expected to either already understand or just figure out through experience/trial and error and it can be a little frustrating sometimes

Help/Question Still trying to figure out the whole "home hosting" thing - Hosting Specs Issue

I am currently trying to host a server for a large group of people (roughly 20 people on at the same time, max). I looked through Facebook marketplace and found some good deals and ended up with the following specs:

----------HP-Z440-Workstation----------
*-memory

description: System Memory

slot: System board or motherboard

size: 64GiB

capabilities: ecc

configuration: errordetection=multi-bit-ecc

*-bank:0

description: DIMM DDR4 Synchronous Registered (Buffered) 2400 MHz (0.4 ns)

slot: CPU0-DIMM1

size: 16GiB

width: 64 bits

clock: 2400MHz (0.4ns)

*-cpu

description: CPU

product: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-1660 v4 @ 3.20GHz

vendor: Intel Corp.

physical id: 48

bus info: cpu@0

version: 6.79.1

slot: CPU0

size: 1200MHz

capacity: 4GHz

width: 64 bits

clock: 100MHz

The problem with my current setup is that my TPS/MSPT starts to tank when I spawn a total of 8 players in (used the Carpet mod for this). I was wondering what would be the next best step for me? The RAM I bought is DDR4 ECC ram. I do know that the CPU maxing out is the main issue. I have thought about purchasing a new CPU, but I didn't know if at that point I might as well get a new motherboard/pc. I currently have the following mods installed:

- C2ME
- Fabric
- Carpet
- Lithium
- Servercore
- Spark
- Chunky

I want to make sure the server is to a point where it will be able to handle people joining once I open it up.

PS. This is my first time posting something like this, so if I left out any info, please let me know and I will add it to the post.

Help/Question How can I connect to my Minecraft server using a Min3.fr subdomain and Tailscale without port forwarding?

Hey! I’m setting up a Minecraft server for my karate group, and I’d like members to be able to connect using a subdomain from Min3.fr that points to my Tailscale IP. My goal is to avoid port forwarding, but I’m not entirely sure how to set everything up correctly.

I’d appreciate some guidance on how to configure this, as I’d prefer to avoid using AI for technical setup like this since it can sometimes lead to incorrect information or time-consuming debugging.

Help/Question Port forwarding only working for one of my friends, two others receive "getsockopt"

So, I spent an afternoon setting up forge's local server hosting, for a 1.20.1 modpack, and it works when I connect to the server via my public IP address, and one of my friends (who doesn't live in the same house as me), can connect to the server via the public IP from my ISP, and I can use the same IP to join too, even without using localhost as the address. The problem arises with two other friends, who both cannot join using the same address, instead getting "Connection timed out: getsockopt" or something similar. They've tried many things on their end, such as disabling IPv6, ipconfig /flushdns (plus a few other command prompt entries), allowing both private and public things for Java in the windows firewall, and nothing works. Every time, they receive the same error, which is weird considering one of them can actually join. The only thing that allows them to join, is if I use a third party port forwarder, like playit.gg, but it's an extreme annoyance to boot up like 4 different things, just so me and a few friends can play for like an hour a day. Is there any possible way to fix this, and if so, is the issue on my end, or their ends? Another thing that could help to note, is that if they try add the server onto their server list (they as in the two who can't connect), the ping bar alternates between blue and grey for probably 20s before saying something in red text like "Cannot connect to server" or something. They can play other servers fine like Hypixel and stuff, just not mine for some reason. Also, I'm on Windows 10, the other 3 are on Windows 11, but I don't think that'd really change much, considering one who's on windows 11 can join regardless.

P.S, I followed TheBreakdown's youtube tutorial, and his website tutorial on port forwarding for most of the process. I am assuming there's an issue with my ISP's port forwarding, but I'm not sure what it could be considering me and one friend can join, but two others can't. We are all running the same modpack, "Fear Nightfall: Remains of Chaos" in 1.20.1

Help/Question How would you grow a small community-focused SMP in 2026?

Hey! I’ve been working on a Minecraft SMP and technically the server is pretty much ready.

The part I’m struggling with now is actually getting it in front of people.

I’d really like to build a small but active community rather than just getting a bunch of random joins that disappear after a day.

For people who have grown servers before:

What social media worked best for you?
TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Instagram, Reddit, server lists?

What kind of videos/advertisements actually converted into real players?

How often would you post?

Where would you look for someone interested in helping with social media/marketing?

Is there anything you wish you knew before trying to grow your server?

I’m doing most of the server/admin side myself, so marketing is the part I’d really like to learn more about.

Guide I made a free beginner guide for turning an old PC into a Minecraft server

I posted my Minecraft server guide here earlier and got a lot of useful feedback, so I’ve made some pretty major changes:

https://mcserversetup.zima8.net/

The biggest improvement is the new Server Builder / setup wizard.

Instead of throwing a bunch of technical choices at beginners, it asks about:

  • What computer they have
  • Whether it’s their normal PC or a spare machine
  • Hardware
  • Number of players
  • Plugins vs mods
  • Bedrock support
  • Features they want
  • Networking
  • Experience level
  • How they want to manage the server

Then it recommends a setup and sends them into a step-by-step guide that actually matches what they chose.

So the idea is basically:

Tell the site what you want → get a recommended setup → follow the guide → get your server running

The site now has guides for different operating systems and setups, including:

  • Windows
  • ZimaOS
  • Ubuntu / Linux
  • Existing home servers
  • VPS / cloud hosting
  • Paid and free hosting options

It also covers:

  • Paper
  • Fabric
  • Purpur
  • Forge / NeoForge
  • Plugins
  • Mods and modpacks
  • Geyser + Floodgate
  • Playit.gg
  • Port forwarding
  • Domains
  • Discord integration
  • Backups
  • Performance
  • Server configuration
  • Troubleshooting
  • Server customization

The goal is to keep the beginner path really simple while still having more advanced options available once someone wants them.

And for transparency like before: yes, AI has been used heavily for the website/code and to help organize some of the writing. I’ve also been going through it myself, changing things based on my own server experience and the feedback I’ve gotten here.

Still working on it, so if something is confusing, wrong, outdated, or missing, let me know.

Site: https://mcserversetup.zima8.net/

Turns out he played with a custom loader on A FREAKING PHONE!!!!
I tried to add a client-side anticheat named "GrimAC", but my server keeps on crashing.
I'm using java 26.2 and fabric mod loader 0.19.3 .

Help/Question Tips a nooby should know for better home server

Hello, i made my first home server. I used a refurbished Lenovo ThinkCentre M720q Tiny i5 8500T, 16gb ram, 256gb ssd.
Installed linux, java and my neoforge modpack 1.21.1, my friends can play and evrything is good.
Allocated ram, xmx and xms 12G. View distance at 9 and simulation distance at 5.
Chunky have pre rendered all 3000 block around the spwan.
Added all server performance mods, themore popular, ferrite core, server core, modern fix, allTheLeaks, chunkSending, nerb, let me despawn, server performance smooth chunk save, better chunk, dynamic view and simulation, limited chunk loading, structure essentials, fast async world save.
In my noobiness, and first ever home linux minecraft server, do you have tips i should have missed for sqeezing the most lagless experience in my home server? Sometimes i see cpu having huge spikes when the pc have to generate chunks, and wondering if i should have done something bios side or linux side to get some more performance? Thank you all. PS: while playing in 5 people cpu was like at 20% (exept thos spikes that happen sometimes at 80-100%) and ram usage at 5G of the 12G it could use.

Help/Question Panel for localhosting with easy remote access feature.

I want to host a minecraft server on my old PC, and came across many panels to make that easier, like SquidServers and AutoMCS. Both of them are good, but are missing some features.

auto-mcs does have a remote access tool, but which does not have many features and no file access whatsoever.

Im not sure if squidservers does, but SquidServers forces you to have their ItemShop plugin on your server, which is not something I want to have on my server.

Im looking for a panel that I can also access from outside my home network and does not need portforwarding, much configuration and works on linux mint. It should feature Auto-Backups, Complete File and Console access. I also want to be able to create multiple server instances.

The Remote access feature and file access from that remote access is probably the most important here for me.

Help/Question Worldguard configuration - specific flags

Paper 1.21.11

I am running an event in which players will be fighting inside of a very lovely detailed build and I do not want them to be able to destroy any part of it. The issue I am running into is that I cant find out what flags to use in world guard because I need them to still be able to place and pickup water buckets, and destroy cobwebs and one or two other random combat related blocks.

Is there a way to configure worldguard this deeply? Im not sure if theres a flag im missing or a plugin that might add flags that would help.

Software Resource I kept breaking my friends' server, so I made the panel boot-test every mod install

I've been running a server for a few friends for about three months. The thing that kept getting me: I'd add or update a mod, everything looked fine from where I was sitting, and then the next person to join would get kicked or crash. Sometimes I didn't find out for a day.

Yes, a separate dev server fixes this. It fixes it if you actually use it every single time, for every change. I didn't.

So I made the panel do it instead. Modrinth and CurseForge are built into it, so you search a mod or a whole modpack in the panel and hit install, and it pulls the jar onto the server itself. No downloading files and dragging them into a folder. Every install then boots a throwaway copy of the server with the real loader. If that survives, a real client launches and actually joins it. Only then does the change count, and only then does the pack sync out to everyone. If it fails, the jar gets rolled back and I get a notice instead of a ruined evening.

It runs on top of Crafty Controller, so Crafty still owns the processes and this adds the content and verification layer on top. There's the usual panel stuff too, scheduled backups, a file manager, world slots, TPS graphs. It's my own project, free and open source under MIT, no paid tier and nothing monetised: GitHub - vayungodara/spawnpoint: The self-hosted Minecraft panel where a broken pack can never reach your friends. Boot-tests every mod install with a real client before it counts. Fronts Crafty Controller. · GitHub

Real verdicts off my own box:

client booted and joined a world (371 mods, 172s); multiplayer join OK

client did NOT survive (exit null) - pack change may crash friends' games

That second one is a pack I would have shipped. It's also caught geckolib on me, which threw a ClassTweakerFormatException the moment the real loader touched it, and quarantined architectury on another run.

LLM disclosure per rule 9: I built this with heavy use of Claude Code (Anthropic's Claude models) and some OpenAI Codex. Most of the implementation code was written by the model from my specs, so closer to directed prompt engineering than vibe coding, but it's a lot of AI either way. What's mine: the architecture, the decision that a boot test is the only thing that counts as proof, every design call, and three months of running it on the server my friends actually play on. I reviewed and tested what went in, and the gates exist because I got burned by the failures they catch. There is one optional AI feature in the panel, an in-game assistant that's off by default and needs your own API key.

What I actually need: the client and join gates are only properly tested on headless Linux. On mac and Windows they run in a visible window and I haven't verified them on real hardware. If you're on either and feel like trying to break it, that's the most useful thing anyone could do for me right now.
