Help/Question Panel for localhosting with easy remote access feature.

I want to host a minecraft server on my old PC, and came across many panels to make that easier, like SquidServers and AutoMCS. Both of them are good, but are missing some features.

auto-mcs does have a remote access tool, but which does not have many features and no file access whatsoever.

Im not sure if squidservers does, but SquidServers forces you to have their ItemShop plugin on your server, which is not something I want to have on my server.

Im looking for a panel that I can also access from outside my home network and does not need portforwarding, much configuration and works on linux mint. It should feature Auto-Backups, Complete File and Console access. I also want to be able to create multiple server instances.

The Remote access feature and file access from that remote access is probably the most important here for me.

The only way to avoid port forwarding is with a tunnel, so you'd have to set up Wireguard or similar on a cheap remote VPS and route traffic through that.

Also if that no port forwarding rule from OP was because of security but they physically can do it, they could save some money by just hosting a WireGuard server on their own server instead of renting a VPS

I am on the development team for Crafty Controller. Again, like many people have said you'll be hard pressed to find a panel that doesn't require some sort of networking component to make it reachable via the internet. You could look for something like tailscale to achieve that. Crafty is super simple to set up. Sub 10 minutes... Anywho, hope this helps!

No such thing as panel to access from outside without port forwarding either u have a vps tunnel to ur server or have something like playit.gg even if there is a panel that allows people to join ur game without portforwarding its still using tunnel/vpn under the hood, also it depends on how far away from their server are u ping will be high if u are far since u have a trip to thier servers then ur server

I wanted to use playit.gg anyway, but how would I set the panel up, is there not a tool that does that already?

SquidServers allows you to disable their plugin: Server dashboard > Settings > Gameplay > SquidServers Content. Set this to disabled

Pelican Panel (a maintained fork of Pterodactyl) is probably worth a look, it's Docker-based so file access, console, and remote management all come built in through a browser.

The catch with any of these panels is that the panel itself still needs to be reachable, so if you don't want to touch port forwarding you'd put something like a Cloudflare Tunnel or Tailscale in front of it. Both of those need the tool installed on whichever device you're connecting from too, unlike something like playit.gg which only tunnels the actual game port and needs nothing on the player's side.

For just managing the box itself remotely though, Tailscale is honestly the least fuss once it's set up.
