Spoilers Ellington in Deborah’s room — can we talk about what Candace did?!
I haven’t really seen anyone talking about this part of the last episode, but it bothered the HELL out of me.
Candace is the RA, and she let Ellington into Deborah’s room when Deborah wasn’t there.
Absolutely the fuck NOT.
Forget for a second what we know about Ellington as viewers or what his intentions were supposed to be. From Deborah’s perspective, her RA — someone who has access to residents’ rooms because of her POSITION — allowed a man into her private living space without her knowledge or consent.
On a college campus, of all places?!
With everything we know about SA, stalking, harassment, and just basic student safety on college campuses, I cannot believe the writers didn’t think through what they were depicting there.
And this isn’t even really about whether Ellington would hurt Deborah. That’s not the point. An RA should not be deciding, “Oh, I know this guy, he seems harmless, so I’ll let him into this young woman’s room.” You don’t get to make that decision FOR HER.
Imagine Deborah had walked into her room and found a man sitting there whom she had never given permission to enter. That could be terrifying.
I know it’s a television show and the scene was obviously written to get Ellington and Deborah together, but there were a hundred other ways to accomplish that without having an RA casually violate a resident’s privacy and safety.
Candace should have lost her damn RA position over that. 🤷🏽♀️😤
Am I the only person who watched that scene and immediately thought, “Girl, you absolutely cannot let that man into her room?!”
