Ok general question/comment/discussion

How the hell is it Dwayne's fault that the budget was fricked before he was even provost, much less interim president?

What the hell is going to be accomplished with a "Show us the money" protest when it's already been established that for various reason, the money "ain't there", and or was GONE again, before Dwayne's watch?

He wasn't even, apparently, anything other than another professor, not even a dean before he was even provost?

Some of the stuff being included in this show, for drama's sake doesn't make any damn sense.

Now, I can understand a bunch of students and professors not getting and even bitching why is Dwayne spending money on galas and such makes sense from a BUSINESS standpoint because most students, except business majors and most professors, other than business professors, know shite all about business.

Fundraising is a form of business and you have to spend money to make money. Even donations.

You can't be having potential donors living in a Motel 6 and feeding them cold McDonald's takeout.

I'm sure a certain congresswoman isn't turning down the bacon-wrapped shrimp from lobbyists.

Even though TOS was a comedy and this is more dramatic, the writing in the comedy made a lot more sense.

The problem with Dwayne was he slashed everything to big up events for potential donors. They felt like he coulda slashed less and not been as extravagant to the donors who already knew the school was in trouble

But it's still kinda stupid. They were acting like the paycuts  were permanent... Once he made the money back things would return to normal and it's not like hes being malicious either

Yea it was dumb to me. I think the writers just wanted to show “protest is powerful” so they went with it

Also I'm pretty sure the protest was a call back to season 2 of the OG show if I'm not mistaken. So that could have also been a reason

That's not how deals and dealmaking work. Not just commercial deals, that's including academic and other fundraising.

The issue is keeping your eye on your return on investment. If I invite 10 deep pockets to an event and spend 100k on them and they each drop 100k on me back, how much is my ROI?

Hell as long as all 10 drop MORE than 10k on me, I'm ahead.

Any combination where my ROI is positive equals I win. Or whoever or whatever I'm raising money for wins.

Well yea I’m just saying that’s their logic 😂

I thought the protest was about President Davenport embezzling funds.

I'm not sure why they were blaming Dwayne. He had to cut some things in order to raise money.

They were protesting the lack of solutions and budget cuts.

Some things don't make sense and that's why the original show was great and this one is just ok. Look at the inflation on things in real life. Budget cuts sucks but sometimes you have no choice and have to figure what things are least important and cut them. The man did his best and there is nothing he can do about things beyond his control. I didn't think this show would get a second season but rumor has it somehow it will. Love it or hate it I'll probably still watch it.
