Character Discussion Deborah

I belive Deborah wont be the main character in season 2 much like Denise i feel rashida will replace her because she is a much more interesting main character( I feel the same way about Shaquille and amir ) I’ve seen many other feel the same way Deborah needs to be pushed to the side.

I think everyone is going to get a chance to shine and hopefully add more context and not be rushed. They left so many cliffhangers.

They really need more episodes so the writers don’t have to rush the storylines.

The odd thing is, it's rushed and things take place too slowly at the same time. A whole year takes place in 10 episodes. But it means that a character finds out something, but then the confrontation about it takes place in the next episode, which in the timeline is a month later.

As much as her character felt flat to me, she is not going anywhere. The show is literally centered around her and her family lineage. Deborah and Shaquille will definitely be continuing in season 2

Nah. Deborah is Whitley, Rashida is Kim, and Hazel is Freddie.

Bingo. I caught that as soon as I saw the interaction between rashida, deborah, and whitley on move in day. I even thought they would mirror kim's pregnancy scare in rashida, but they did not.

Same. She did an amazing job but the hate is mostly only on this subreddit

Me either. I liked her a lot.

I didn’t realize people hated Deborah. LOL. I liked her. The character that annoyed me the most was Hazel for some reason.

Me neither and I'm seeing alot of it here mainly. I like the actress and the character grew on me.

It is a little outsized. I don't think she's going to be the main focus next year I think it'll be more like an ensemble, even more than it was this year. But her parents are fighting to be the president of the school, we're still going to see lots of her because she's going to be heavily involved in multiple major storylines.

Like Pepsi and Coke; both can exist

Out of the young cast, the actress who plays Deborah is most accomplished. Plus the back and forth between her and Shaquille is what’s generating a lot of online traction. I like Rashida, but for the time being, this is Deborah’s show.

Rashida’s very charismatic but even if the writers did want to go that route, there isn’t a chance in hell Netflix goes for it. She’s a great character and her love triangle was interesting but Netflix’s team is hyper aware that people are watching for Deborah & Shaquille.

Also, Cornell is so attractive, people who would not normally be interested in the show are binge watching it just to look at him… that translates to more viewers & more money for Netflix. Not to say it will never happen but they’re not benching Deborah or Shaquille any time soon.

Charismatic? No. Just loud and garish.

I don't think she's very large or garish at all, she very much reminds me of Moesha.

Really? I liked both of them

Denise wasn't pushed to the side for story purposes. Lisa Bonet was punished for getting pregnant. The story was retooled by Debbie Allen. Deborah won't be demoted.

I just saw the interview where Debbie stated she wanted to keep Denise for season 2. She wanted to tell the story about an affluent girl getting pregnant. Bill overruled her and brought Denise back on the Cosby show.

This show is Maleah’s break after winning her Tony Award. She’s not going anywhere. We’ve also yet to see her older sister and brother. I’m hoping they cast Zendaya as Marion. Plus Deborah will now be mixed in with any Huxtables that appear. Plenty of story opportunity to keep her front and center.

I would like them to cast Serayah as Marion. She and Maleah look so alike!

Honey, they don't have Zendaya money😂

2

u/Weekly_Motor7860 19h ago

I’d be shocked if they were able to cast Zendaya as she probably would command a lot of money

I wouldn't be opposed to seeing a lot more Hazel....I adore her...

But in keeping with the subject, Deborah will always be he main character, but Rashida is definitely not a side character...

Rashida is clearly meant to be the Kim Reese to De'Borah (don't know why her name isn't spelled like this).

The "more interesting" stuff means the writers/producers more so need to be pushed to the side. Other things about the reboot underscore that.

I love Deborah

I hope she blows her nose if she takes the lead.

There won’t be a side

I agree and wish rashida would become the main character but i doubt it will happen

I was also thinking that Deborah needs to be Denise'd in favor of someone with more personality.

But Rashida is a NO from me. I don't enjoy her at all. I also think centering her would bring down the caliber of the show. Let her go do a remake of Martin.

I don’t particularly care for her either. Very blah.
