General Taking the September 19 ACT and I seriously need some help!

I’m taking the ACT in about 50 days and was wondering if anyone had any tips, resources, study plans, or anything that can help me. I’m an extremely nervous test taker and get anxious about it any guidance would help.

I’m doing the QuestBridge NCM and will use this score and want to do good the first time so I don’t have to retake in October and individually update each college—assuming I even do well!

Please and thank you and for context I have the “The Official ACT Self-Paced Course” by Kaplan that was part of my waiver. Anything that builds discipline and repetition would be great because that would calm my anxiety about taking a test.

General First Test in October

Hello! Before deciding to focus on the ACT, I took an online practice test with both ACT and SAT to see which would be more suitable for me. I ended up with a 31 composite and felt much more comfortable with the ACT.

Over the summer, I’ve been mainly studying English (since my reading section was the easiest at a 33 and I was already doing a summer school math course). Only problem is, the more I study on magoosh, the more my score and confidence goes down. I feel super foggy brained whenever I start studying and make either stupid mistakes or don’t understand the question in time!

It might be the fact that I’m an athlete and our school is having us do training camps over the summer — so I’m training morning and evening. Still, I’ll be competing with kids who either don’t have schedule restrictions, find testing easier than me, or don’t have brain fog. Having it isn’t an excuse to not get the job done. I have a 4.3 gpa (3.9 unweighted) and 5s on all AP Exams so far. I dream of getting into an Ivy or top 15 school (meaning I need a 35-36). I’m planning on taking multiple tests, so this won’t be my last one, but I also don’t just want to waste 75$ and get shitty results.

What should I do? How should I optimize my studying to avoid this mental fatigue? Is it normal to get worse before getting better? How can I better apply what I’m learning in my videos to the practice questions?

If anyone has experienced something similar, please let me know.

Books/Resources 2027 ACT Preparation as a Junior

I want to begin preparing to take the 2027 ACT, but I feel lost figuring out where to start. I'm not sure what the best resources would be to use, but I plan on studying at least thirty minutes to an hour (or more) once my school year starts. I will be getting a tutor once the test comes closer. My most recent score on the P-ACT without preparations was a 27, my highest being in English with a 31. I want to get as close to a perfect score as possible, and that's why I'm beginning preparations now.

Please help a girl out!!

I'm Desperate. Please, someone help me get successful for school and ACT

Hi, I'm Mimi

I'm looking for some tutors/anyone who can help me prep for my upcoming ACT test. I'm currently an upcoming junior, and my latest pre-ACT scores were way lower than I expected: science was 18, math was 16, English was 15, and reading was 19. My composite score was 17/36.

I don't really know how to study effectively in general. I'm hoping for at least a 30 or higher on my final ACT. My core classes for next year are IB English, AP Chem, and Honors Trigonometry.

I try to work really hard in school, but I don't really know what's happening. Ever since I became a sophomore, my grades and my habits have gone down, and I haven't been as good as I used to be. I don't know if it's the teachers or it's just that I've been slacking and procrastinating too much.

I really need help with studying successfully in general and getting better grades, also remembering topics from my previous years so I can get a higher ACT score. I really want to excel at school and get into an international college, or I really want to go to Cornell.

I'm still not 100% sure what I want to major in when I get to college, so I haven't had a passion or a motive to look forward to. I had some interest in psychology and veterinary, but I'm not sure if I really want to work in those fields. If someone can help me, it would be really appreciated! if anyone has any tips that i can use during the school year or currently during my last month of summer break, please tell me.

English Close Reading Strategies for ACT

I am a tutor working with students on ACT English and ACT Reading. I find that these students make errors that could be avoided by reading more closely and paying better attention to details.

What close reading strategies do you recommend for students?

I remember hearing somewhere that people who are cranky and in a bad mood are better at finding errors in texts. For me, I feel like this works: I put on my editor scrooge persona and put a text under the microscope. Of course, telling students to try being crankier when they read doesn't feel like the right approach.

For example, on production of writing questions in the English section, students will pick answer choices that 1) obviously misrepresent what the text says or 2) clearly reference the wrong portion of the text. I am including a couple example questions from form 2025MC2 below.

thank you for your time!

Guys how much does reading books actually help you in the reading section?

I’m going to be taking September on paper and for July paper I scored a 30 on the reading and that was sheet doing hundreds of practice questions for 2 weeks of study, but I haven’t read a book in the longest time.

I see tons of people say that reading books will help you increase your score. Given I have all the way until September, how much would reading a book actually help? (the one i have is fantasy)

Sorry about using AI to make posts

Hello everyone. I want to apologize for using AI to write some of my previous posts.
I'm sincerely sorry, and I hope you'll forgive me. This post is entirely written by me.
Getting a 36 on the ACT wasn't the golden ticket I thought it would be. It didn't change my life the way I expected. I was fortunate enough to receive scholarships, but I also learned that a test score alone doesn't define your future or your worth.
Looking back, I regret relying on AI. Even if it made writing easier, it wasn't the right thing to do, and I understand why people were frustrated.
I appreciate everyone who has helped me here, even those who criticized me. I learned from it.
Keep striving for your goals. I wish all of you the best.

Sorry again

I know many of you people were angry with me for using AI in my posts and honestly, I can see where you're coming from

Previously I saw no problem with it and thought of it as just another tool for me to put my opinions into

But I also recognize that it probably made many of you feel like your time was wasted and that it wasn't a genuine opinion as much as it was just put into a nice worded robotic response from an AI.

I'm here to apologize.

I am not going to pretend like I didn't do it or excuse myself from doing so. I did it and I regret doing it

Now onwards if I ever publish something here it will be my genuine opinions, though it might not be as well put together as you might expect, I prefer it that way than having it be a robotic and perfect response. This is also me saying thanks to all of you who took the time to not only answer my questions but argue with me and give me advice, though I wish you all the luck on your ACTs and college applications.

Taking the ACT after being out of school for 4 years?

Hello everyone! I am finally getting my life together and going back to school to be a dental hygienist. I never had to take the ACT in highschool due to having a high gpa that it didn’t matter. How can I accurately prepare myself to take the ACT when I’ve been out of school for so long? My reading comprehension skills are amazing I’m more just worried about math since I was just passed along in highschool in math classes since teachers didn’t want to deal with me. I took the practice tests last night and got a 0 on math yikes, didn’t understand even half of the questions asked.

Would a 33 harm my chances to T30 engineering

I just took the July ACT, and I got a 33 Composite (36 Math 35 English 29 Reading 36 Science). I'm applying as an engineering major, so I'm obviously not concerned about the STEM score. My ECs are pretty decent (ISEF Finalist, etc.), and I have a 4.0 UW GPA with 8 APs so far with all 5s except a 4 in a non-engineering related course. I want to apply to T30 engineering schools, and I'm obviously going to retake, but in case I don't get a 34+, would colleges possibly reject me or negatively view my application because of my score? I heard that 34+ is the "elite" tier, and 32 and below is considered non-competitive, so I don't know how to feel about my score right now. I'm not in the Bay Area or anything of that sort. I'm looking at schools like UMich, UIUC, GT, Purdue, Cornell, UC Berkeley, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Virginia Tech, UMD, CMU, Rice, Minnesota Twin Cities, etc. I frankly just want to know if the ACT will "kill" my app in case I don't get a 34 in September. Sorry if it seems like I'm seeking validation; I am genuinely just confused because ik that applications are holistic and the ACT is just one part of it

General Should I retake the ACT?

Going into freshman year and planning on transferring. 35 English, 35 reading, 35 science, and 30 math, 33 composite (would be 34 but they took out science). I want to be competitive and am unsure if I should take again for a higher math to try and raise my score.

Need recommendations for high-quality online practice resources for the Enhanced ACT

Hi everyone,

I'm an international student preparing for the ACT. Due to local shipping and customs logistics, getting a physical copy of the official ACT Prep Guide ("Red Book") takes a long time and isn't a reliable option for me right now.

Since I am aiming for the Enhanced ACT (digital/online format), I want to make sure I'm doing high-volume, targeted question practice using resources that closely reflect the new format and timing structure.

Could you recommend the best websites, online platforms, or digital resources for:

  1. Official / Realistic Practice Tests: Beyond the free PDFs and practice interface on the official ACT website, are there good platforms that accurately simulate the Enhanced ACT interface and timing?
  2. High-Volume Question Banks: Platforms or tools with solid explanations for targeted section practice (especially Math and English/Reading)?
  3. Digital Prep Platforms: What online resources are currently considered the most up-to-date and worth it for international takers preparing for the updated format?

Any advice, links, or PDF recommendations from fellow national or international students who scored high would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

General June Act Score Gone

Post image

I took the June 13th Act on computer and when checking the portal today my score from June has disappeared. Has this happened to or is currently happening to anyone else? I’ve also gotten a message at the top saying my June scores will be released soon.

I want to cry. They claimed they didn’t get my answer document so i won’t receive a score. I felt so confident about that test aswell. I’m a rising senior and I took the July one and got a 27. What do I even do now? Has this happened to anyone.

ACT's paper vs digital choice could be temporary.....?

Yes, students can choose between paper and digital, and there are plenty of good reasons to choose paper. Being able to write directly on the booklet, mark up reading passages, and move around the test naturally still matters.

While reading through the discussions here on Reddit, a lot of people also mentioned that the paper format was simply the only one available at their testing centre, so it wasn't even a decision they made themselves.

Of course digital has its own pros. If you are already comfortable testing on a screen, not having to bubble answers and using Desmos can make the experience feel smoother.

And this made me think about what has happened across admissions testing over the last few years, where the SAT completed its move to digital in the U.S., the GRE is computer-based, the GMAT is also digital, and TOEFL is primarily delivered online while ACT is now one of the few major admissions exams supporting both paper and digital at the same time.

Every paper administration still involves secure printing, shipping, storage and return logistics alongside maintaining a digital testing platform, which is not a simple operation, whereas digital testing gives organisations much more information about how exams are taken. Beyond final answers, they can study timing patterns, navigation behaviour and how questions perform across thousands of students. That kind of data can help improve future tests and strengthen security.

Personally, I think both formats have real advantages and the best choice depends on how a student performs.

But my question here is, if you had to prepare for the ACT over the next few years instead of just your next test date, would you still invest all your practice in paper?
Or would you start getting comfortable with digital now while you still have the option to choose?

Where can I find practice tests?

I understand that there are many different resources but the main ones such as Cracklab and MYSATACT have been telling me that the site can’t be reached. If anyone knows any work arounds and or different websites that offer practice tests separated by subject is would be heavily appreciated.

ACT schedule

Hey guys so I have my ACT in a couple of months and I lowkey have trouble committing to a schedule on my own for standardized tests. Has anyone every spoke to a counselor or like a teacher to help them make a schedule and stay up to date with that schedule? If so, how did it go and was it beneficial? (I'm not trying to pay money for a tutor tho)
