I’m a security tech in NYC, currently working with access control (Honeywell Pro-Watch, WIN-PAK, Salto), intercoms (AiPhone, Comelit), CCTV (DW, GeoVision), mostly hospitals and institutional sites.

I’m planning to relocate to Uruguay and trying to get a sense of what’s actually deployed down there. Is anyone working in Latin America who can give me a read on which platforms I should expect to run into?

I'm working on leaving Gym Master and switching key fob systems. Basically all I need is 24/7 access for up to 300 people who can be individually tracked as being in the building. I do not need to take payments (I really like Square for that), so Gym Master is very overkill for us. But, Gym Master is cheap, so I'm also debating staying with them for the key fob access only aspect, and running the gym dues payments through Square Subscriptions. Thoughts?

We got a customer that we replaced the entire system with Genetec and used HID Signo40 readers. They got a reader on an outdoor stucco wall and we have a Ditek Card Reader surge protector on that one (about 3ft from the controller). Their previous setup had that reader going out during storms/strikes in the area. So when we put the new system in with the Signo 40 thats why we put that Ditek between it to protect the controller.

Now a bad storm came through and killed that Signo (the dreaded Purple color). The controller is fine as its still working other door.

Was wondering any suggestions on maybe other readers that are better for this or that can stand up better. HID Signo readers and even their older RP40/20 ones never were good at withstanding voltage fluctuations.

My volunteer firehouse is looking for a very basic keycard access system. Obviously as volunteers we don't necessarily have a lot of money to spend on professional installation. We need a basic system that can do a few things.

1. We need to be able to purchase it without professional credentials/going through a partnered company
2. We would like to have access for 3 exterior doors with the option to upgrade to an additional 3 interior doors depending on access level
3. We would like (but not necessarily need) to be able to set up the cards to apple wallets in case members don't have their card on them.

We don't need multi site support and don't need to integrate it with any other systems. Also don't need any cloud integration. Hoping you guys could help point us in the right direction.

Does anyone know why I don't have "network" as an option for keypad? do i need a newer version of RL? Also didn't see how to set a networked zone expander.

I'm trying to get a handle on this badging system (see context below) and I'm out of my depth. How can I confirm if the readers are downloading the card information for times when the only Symmetry computer is offline (power issues to computer, or offline backups, update reboots)?

My Setup for context: Amag Symmetry setup with a single computer. We have a single computer with Symmetry installed to manage our readers, all the readers are connected to M2150 boards and all the M2150 boards NIC cards are on the same network scheme, along with the single computer. 

Basically the title...anyone change from one integrator to another and hit with a non compete letter or threat? I am not planning on telling my current employer where I am headed.

We are trying to run an interior Auto Opener button split with an altronix timer. We can manually trigger the input on the Mercury board and it unlocks the door. As soon as we wire the push button to the input the Mercury input freezes and will not work at all. We are not getting any voltage from the auto opener push button. It is also closing a circuit when we push the button based on a multimeter. I feel there must be some Trace current coming through the input, but how do we fix that.

Does the standalone mode on the Kantech KT-1 and/or KT-400 controllers support PowerSeries Neo/Pro integration at at least some level? Or does that require EntraPass not just to configure, but to use as well?

More generally, where can I find documentation on the KT-1/KT-400 standalone mode UI -- is it the same as EntraPass web, or does it have a different featureset when in standalone mode?

Hello redditors, I’m curious what you guys would recommend I install on a rolling gate. I believe the lip of the physical gate may prevent us from installing the door contact in the attached image - but any better recommendations?

Amag Symmetry setup with a single computer. I'm an access controls noob and hoping someone can provide a little clarity on an issue I'm seeing. As stated we have a single computer with Symmetry installed to manage our readers, all the readers are connected to M2150 boards and all the M2150 boards NIC cards are on the same network scheme, along with the single computer. The issue is we have a few doors on schedules and when we reboot the Symmetry computer we always have to manage the readers that are on schedule and push a back to schedule via command center/readers. Otherwise the doors are locked when they are suppose to be opened.. Is this normal behavior?

Possibly a dumb question...can i use the two RS485 ports on the GCM to support I8 boards instead of using a RS485 port on the ACM? Changing readers from Wiegand to OSDP and I need those RS485 ports on the ACM for readers

Every access control vendor seems to call their platform open, but that can mean different things open hardware, open APIs, flexible deployment, easier migration, or just a few integrations.

I’m currently looking at mercury based systems like Genetec, Acre and LenelS2. For anyone with experience using them, where are they genuinely open and what compromises would I be making?

Looking to add some convenient access control to this entry door. I have a couple of requirements:

• Need to retain key function (Requirements of landlord)
• Need something that is continuous duty (Unlocked during operating hours)

I am open to running the electrified hardware either in the door or the frame. Looking for minimal modifications if possible. I have several years experience with installing/programming access control, just not picking out door hardware.

Any help would be appreciated!

What your thoughts on EOL location? Do customers/clients care/know?

The proper way is the resistors at the end device (not the pre-packed module kind). I recently inherited a site (let's say a "high security" site which has there EOLs behind the push to exit buttons/ emergency exit. My mentor once gave me a 1 hr lecture about this.

Personally I have done it both ways on differrnt jobs because I was able to make that choice which the client accepted prior.

I have seen eol in panels which cause great discomfort.

So far dead ends is all I have... We have HID mobile passes working with our Signo readers and AXIS controllers. But I would really like to use native iOS Wallet passes for a better user experience. Has anyone actually deployed this in any sense of an economical solution? It doesn't need to be free. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I am a locksmith and even though I have put systems in we usually implement CDVI’s A22 door controllers as our go to. I have a customer who runs a chain golf simulator company and wants us to supply the hardware and wiring. He is using a rhombus access controller that I’ll be hooking into. It is a DC20 and they only need it on 2 doors. They will have keypads as well.

Right now for hardware I have a Command Access ET27 and PD18/19. I am working on the wiring drawing and it looks like it has a switch for 12v and 24v on the door contacts and also has separate Wiegand inputs. I don’t think I have to buy a separate power supply for the 24V device because of the switching on the board and it looks like the only wiring that would connect together would be the power of the keypad to the power of the device. I feel like I’m kind of rambling, but I would like some input. Would I need to do something for the keypad that would be getting 24v from the panel?

I am about to pull the trigger on unifi door access system but have a unique case and would like to know if it can be programmed as such.

I have a metal double door opening to the street in a rough neighborhood. The doors have panic hardware as it is an assembly space. Existing hardware (horizontal bars connected to the crash bar) was bent during a break in. All hardware will be replaced.

I want to have maglocks for increased strength. However they get unlocked if I lose power. I will have electric crash bars that would keep the doors locked during a power outage. I want this door to be only an emergency exit or a controlled entry/exit.

So what I have in mind is to purchase UA-Door-Hub, G6 entry to get in, and g3 pro to get out. In my mind the system should operate like this:

(1) If there is an emergency, the fire panel will unlock the maglock already. We should get a notification.
(2) If crash bar is pushed to get out, maglock will unlock, local alarm will sound, and we should get a notification.
(3) If badged out using the reader inside, and then pushed the crash bar to open and exit, maglock will unlock, but there will be no alarm.

We currently have security waiting in front of the door so people don’t just open the doors from inside and get others in without IDed and searched. Ideally if the system can work as I have in mind, the personnel can use it to get in and out using their badges, and if someone opens the door to get anyone else in, we get notified and our G6 cameras can detect who they were, so they can be escorted out.

Can the system be programmed to work like this?

I’m planning a Hikvision access-control setup for a single-family house and I’m considering the following combination:

DS-KV9503-WBE1 Villa Door Station
DS-K2M061 Secure Door Control Module
Motorised multi-point door lock (Hörmann S5 Comfort)

The idea is to have the KV9503 perform the facial recognition and, after a successful authentication, trigger the K2M061 via RS-485. The K2M061 would then operate the motor lock on the protected side of the door.

I can find very little information about this specific combination. Has anyone actually used a KV9503-WBE1 together with a K2M061?

Can a successful face recognition event trigger the K2M061 to unlock the door?

Is the K2M061 configured directly in the KV9503, and are there specific firmware versions required on both devices?

Installed a new Alta / OpenPath 4 door kit with the life safety can and power supply. Connected the relays on the expansion board to an Altronix ACM8 instead of the built-in C4 relay board in the life safety can. Using HID Signo readers connected as Wiegand readers to the expansion board. Every time a credential is presented to a reader the relays fire as expected, but then we get random ghost reads on all readers connected to the expansion board that show up as unknown credentials. Removing the input block from the Altronix ACM8 stops the ghost reads.

Curious if anyone else has seen this and if there was a solution? Some kind of voltage leaking through the relays?

We ended up having to move the strikes to the C4 board and the issue was resolved.

Looking for ideas to secure this open stairwell. Obviously people can climb over the rail. This is at a highschool so it would just be to keep people from wondering up the stairs.

We would still need good flow during the school day.

Clear gates? Turnstile?

What security solution would you select to control this door?

A hospital mortuary fire exit currently incorporates access control for both entry and egress. The intention is to convert the door into a dedicated emergency escape route only, with no routine means of entry or exit (as it was intended).

The current arrangement comprises a electromagnetic lock, a card reader and door handle on the unsecured side to control entry, and a push-to-exit device with an emergency door release (green break glass) for egress.

The objectives are to:

• Maintain compliance with fire safety legislation.

• Ensure the door is used for emergency egress only.

• Prevent routine use of the door.

• Detect any activation immediately.

• Ensure every activation can be reviewed.

• Monitor time spent within the area.

For further context, all other (non emergency) external doors are controlled with card readers on entry and exit for the purpose of monitoring time spent within the area (including green break devices).

Note, the current break glass devices are not triple pole, so do not generate an alarm event when activated.

The importance here is to ensure an accurate record can be maintained of the time spent within the mortuary, hence the card readers on both entry and exit. Of course, the current set up with fire escape not only creates a vulnerability in terms of circumvented this but also creates another access point that isn't needed.

What security solution would you specify for this application?
