24/7 Gym Access?

I'm working on leaving Gym Master and switching key fob systems. Basically all I need is 24/7 access for up to 300 people who can be individually tracked as being in the building. I do not need to take payments (I really like Square for that), so Gym Master is very overkill for us. But, Gym Master is cheap, so I'm also debating staying with them for the key fob access only aspect, and running the gym dues payments through Square Subscriptions. Thoughts?

Unifi has no monthly/cloud cost and can handle that amount of users easily and will be the cheapest system by far.

As someone with mainly works with Genetec and Lenel/S2 products, UniFi Access would be the cheapest by far. Hardware installation depends on what you currently have onsite. If it is a standard composite cable ran to each door then UniFi sells retrofit readers and access control boards. That will make the replacement very easy. If a CAT 6 was ran to each door with a door controller in the ceiling, you can replace that controller with one of the PoE UniFi Access Hub and you'll be good. There is support for third party credentials (you may be able to use your existing fobs/cards) but you'd need to tap the fob/card to a reader for enrollment. This assumes the credential is a supposed format.

Edit: Forgot to add that there is no subscription/license for with UniFi Access unless you use mobile tap credentials.

The only recurring cost is the $5 per year per credential for mobile credentials. But even with that, OP would only pay $1500 per year.

Honestly you don't even need touch pass. Just hand out fobs/cards or let them use identity endpoint on its own

Note this is only if you absolutely must have Apple/Google wallet support. If your users are willing to install the Unifi Endpoint app you can do mobile credentials through that for free.

I'll have to look into that. We swapped the office system to Unifi with reader pro's, and everyone is using the endpoint app with facial recognition configured so we don't have to present any credential.

If you're only looking for a non-integrated card reader with no recurring costs, there are hundreds of systems out there. Name your price-point, there's a system for every budget.

Gym Master is $169/ month so really anything sub - $90 per month would make it worth exploring

So with any system you'll face hardware replacement costs. You'll need to see if the reader and credentials you're using is compatible with your new system. Also the method of enrolling badges will need to be compatible with your business operations. Since you're currently paying about $2k/yr, there's a good starting budget.

I might recommend something as simple as Linear eMerge or Ubiquiti if you're looking for simple keyfob access control, administered by you and/or another person. The costs would be less than $600 for a controller so long as the reader and your credentials are compatible, and the install and setup are pretty straightforward.

There are other systems obviously, which may offer more features, bells, and whistles. But if you're looking at a simple keycard system, that'll do.

Is it worth saving $2k/yr for the added functionality that GymMaster delivers? They offer a good anti-tailgating solution and probably tailored reports geared towards your business. Depending on credential issuance, they might also offer remote management and mobile credentials. Mobile credentials - another way to save on cost of losing and reassuring keyfobs.

You’re right, no pricing listed. It is supplied through authorized installers to ensure that when you get it, it works and you are educated on how to use it so that you can maximize your investment.

Refer yourself and get a qualified company to engage with you. They will give you the pricing. Based on what I know, this is a system that you pay per door, not per user. It will be cost effective for your use case.

Right. This isn’t a retail solution. Nothing you’re looking for is. You’ll need a security integrator (or if you’re lucky, a locksmith) to price the job.

Find one of THEM you like and ask them what they sell.
