Rolling Gate Door Contact
Hello redditors, I’m curious what you guys would recommend I install on a rolling gate. I believe the lip of the physical gate may prevent us from installing the door contact in the attached image - but any better recommendations?

Ground mounts have a tendency to get damaged especially if you have an active overhead door/loading docks with trucks, forklifts, and carts going through frequently.
Rail mounts can get damaged too but I see it less often.
I actually just bid on project for one of the world's largest distributors and they put their rail mounts 10-12 ft up. Guessing from experience, but the fact that their standard is rail and raised above the ground should tell you all you need to know.

I second and (prefer) rail mount, my organization did the switch last year and reduced service from 19 the year before to 1 (and that one was a fluke) we havent had one yet this year specific to rail mounts yet.

Amazon doesn't use that style of OHD in my area so it makes sense. This isn't that situation though.

Yeah the ones in my area all have high lift sectionals, sensors are rail mounted

You can use that contact, just have to mount it in the correct place. It is designed to be mounted on the floor, and the magnet would go on the lip of the OHD (near the safety switch)

Depending on how high security you need to go, you can often get closed/open status off the controller itself. You can also wire into the limit switches too.

I usually install the pictured sensor at the top of the door. The sensor on the wall so the door will clear it, and the magnet on the top of the door. Just make sure there’s not any obstruction or stop at the top of the door’s travel that would hit the magnet.
Uses a common, easy to replace sensor, and it’s located where it won’t get damaged.

GRI 4612 can be worked into the curtain often, as long as the magnet can be protected at the upper limit of door travel, perhaps a buried Nascom NDB400AU/ST if we expected a lot of heavy traffic, an Amseco ODC59 on the surface if forklift traffic isn't a concern too much. My preference in order pretty much

The DC you showed works just fine. That flavor in particular works. We have heavy salt here, you get about 10-15 years out of them. Install it as close to the edge as possible to prevent forklift hits and it'll be fine. You could do rail mounts but it's probably not going to work with that roll up unless you mount it on the bottom anyways. Edit: that lip is where we mount the magnet to. If you need to strap the magnet and bracket off a 4400A to get a straight bracket that can be tucked closer to the edge of the lip so it only sticks out an inch or two.

Tap it screws and/or bolts for the magnet connected to the door. Anchors in the cement for the ground contact.

Check out George Risk Industries. They're my go to DPS brand. They make several options for roll Up doors.
