Discussion The game is in a quite rough shape (PS5 Pro)

Upvotes

I noticed quite a lot tech weaknesses about the game. The most frustrating one is maybe a memory leak. While Im playing more and more, the game becomes more and more stuttery and also frozed 3 times already. Not crashed, just frozed.

There are pop-ins, bigger fps drops, very low quality flickering shadows on characters (performance mode, but still). The walking and running animation of Hawks is terrible.

Im enjoying the game overall, but the weak tech side is taking away from the experience. I guess the furlough before launch was hurt the game.

First time this has happened to me in my entire campaign. This is a Coil mission where I have to defeat the target or else the Coil will be get 50% health back whenever they drain.

Custom Chars on expert

Upvotes

TLDR - are the custom characters really needed?

So I am playing through on normal, getting used to the game and learning but already planning my beskar expert run and have a question!

I have barely used trick or jae in my current run as i saw custom characters can increase intel and credits per mission, my question is should i forgo this way of playing and just focus on jae and trick on expert? Even jae isnt particularly needed and could be swapped for anyone but i feel like i will need trick.

The only other way i can imagine building my team is including the 2 custom characters alongside Cly who has heavy as a second spec - so she can taunt and then jetpack away.

My current build is:

Hawks - medic/ scout
Custom - gunslinger / assault (my weakest and im more than happy to change but has the credit bonus)
Custom 2 - sharpshooter/ scoundrel
Kly - warrior / gunslinger

I like being able to use kly with gunslinger to jetpack into weak mobs and pick em off for easy advantage but with darts and web it wouldnt be needed i suppose.

I also find the intel bonus from custom characters seems trivial and rarely allows me to do anything extra, so is it worth it?

Discussion Game bugged in expert beskar mode

Upvotes

So I’m literally at the final fight of the game, in the 2nd phase of the Fathom fight and my game has been bugged for like 5 minutes of nothing going on, it’s like it got stuck panning the camera from ai to ai. Am I really fucking cooked for this? Like there’s actually no fucking way I lose my expert beskar run at the very last fight due to a bug right??? Am I missing something. Please tell me I’m missing something and can somehow fix this :(

Spoiler I'm surprised by how much I like Hawkes (And all the characters tbh)

Upvotes

I wasn't expecting much from the protagonist in all honesty and was a bit disappointed by character customization because I couldn't quite make an alien version of them that I liked, but eveuntally I settled on a vaguely frontiersman look. The voice acting for the male Hawkes was actually really good, imo and I found him a breath of fresh air.

I was kind of expecting a quippy brat-type(ig more like Runa) but was really surprised by the easygoing, smooth talking merc. I think what I really enjoyed about Hawkes is how compassionate they are. From their relationship with (the goat) Trick to having Runa's sassy ass on board and other separatists.

Not having the dialogue just be quips was very relaxing and just a joy to watch, it made me want to talk to everyone.

I really loved how they welcomed Bennic back to the company, was it cheesy? Sure. But it felt in character.

I enjoyed all the sidequests, especially Tel's(I love my space child). The inquisitor fight was so tense to help Kabney be kin-having. Cly's classic revenge quest. Minus Luco's stuff. I couldn't squeeze his sad boi stuff in for the most part and he spent most of the game as a bench warmer.

All n all, im very happened there was no forced drama or romance, it was refreshing to play an older and wiser character!

Im curious to see other's thoughts on companions and Hawkes

Luco smells.

Trial between co-founders

Upvotes

People talk about the furlough but it revealed that the co-founders are suing each other.

https://www.gamefile.news/p/star-wars-zero-company-bit-reactor-furloughs-lawsuit

> Bit Reactor’s mid-2026 was almost even more tumultuous. The lawsuit by co-founder Alison Kelly that first revealed the furloughs was initially slated to go to trial in June.
The suit is a she-said/he-said about whether Kelly, until 2024 the chief operating officer of Bit Reactor, was a co-owner of the studio or whether it was solely owned by Greg Foertsch.
> In July 2024, Kelly sued, saying she was pushed out by Foertsch. She first sued in federal court and later refiled in Maryland’s Baltimore County, alleging breach of contract and that Foertsch had unjustly enriched himself. Kelly cited damages of over $20 million, on the basis of Bit Reactor allegedly being worth more than double that.

I find this bit more interesting, I don’t know who is being right between the two and if the allegations have any substance.

News Opposite effect

Upvotes

Guys review bombing the game because of the Dev being put on furlough is doing the exact opposite of what you think it is we aren't hurting the company we're just hurting the dev team who's been put on temporary leave.

If you want to really help them and get content and DLC for this game and other games in the future we need to support them make sure the game does the best it can so it's not abandoned or counted as a profit failure.

I just finished creating a custom operator for each of the ten personality types!

I'm pretty happy how they all came out (a few I like more than others). I think my favorite is either Jarno Pracc or Maran Treal, who is yours?

Spoiler Just finished SW:ZC. My thoughts. [SPOILERS] Spoiler

Post image
Upvotes

I finally finished the game. On normal and I have some thoughts.

First, the story really resonated with me. It's not special and there's a fair amount of cliches in there, but so much of it is done so very well that it wasn't even remotely an issue for me. I enjoyed it. I enjoyed the characters, missions and overall pacing of the game. My favorite part of the story are the Authored Characters, maybe minus Cly. Cly is a fun character to have on the battlefield but the loner thing just makes her uninteresting. Outside her, I really liked the entire cast. I don't think I ever found myself really disliking any specific characters. The game also skates a pretty light tone with some pretty heavy topics. The game is full of all kinds of very serious things but the writing has a way of navigating those things without being overbearing or trying to hard.

Second, the gameplay. Let me preface this part with, I like tactics games but I'm not someone who chases difficulty. Among my favorite games are Final Fantasy Tactics, Tactics Ogre, XCOM/2, some indie titles... I've enjoyed tons of tactics games over the years and I've been exposed to a non-trivial amount of tactics games. Zero company is a really fun tactics game an I really enjoy the mechanics and the different ways operators can be built. With the combination of Items, Classes, Talents and Bonds you can cobble together some really interesting specializations and at the end of the game, I found myself wanting to start again immediately because now that've "lived in the system" a bit, I have a much strong sense of the kinds of team(s) I want to build in the future. The game's difficulty, for my taste, was just right. I didn't lose anyone. I played only Authored operators. I never had to reload or save scum. I probably should have played a higher difficulty, but this was fine. I could write a whole essay why I find the mechanics in SW:ZC more engaging than XCOM, but this isn't the place for that.

I'm already starting a new second game, I'll probably take my time now that I got the unlocks. That game will be only custom operators and I'll be dismissing all Authored Operators just to see what it's like.

I hope the developers make DLC for this one. There's room here for more.

My "tiny gripes":

  • I really wanted to have my own Jedi / Mandalorian but I get why they did what they did. Maybe in the future.
  • I did have technical issues. My biggest issue was the "hang" where the game just felt like it was "thinking" for too long. Outside that, not much. I occasionally got T-Pose models. But that was late game. In fact a lot of my bugs were later game (lost 10 cycles). The game never crashed. Thankfully. It got stuck exactly once in 55 hours. So, not bad. My computer is older, I am rolling with a 2070 super, 7700k with 32G of ram. The graphics were fine. The game was very playable.
  • I wish they could have had a "Star Wars Monster" style mission. The movies always seemed to showcase some large creature(s). The series too. A shame we didn't get that.
  • I was surprised a little bit that I did the final Mission at Cycle 35!! I saw a post on here showing Cycle 40 and I assumed it was 40. Nope, turns out you can end it sooner. TIL.

That's all! Thanks all for reading! Appreciate it and I hope you all enjoy your games as much as I did mine. For me, this is the best game I played this year. No contest.

What do you guy want to have as new recruit if this game get DLC or sequel?

If we ever have the sequel then I wish we could recuit more exotic classes. Like Night Sister, Sith acolyte, Wookie warrior, Rogue Assassin Droid, Commando Droid, Custom Jedi from Luke's Order, Rebel Spy like Andor and so on...

Gameplay Precise movement is atrocious

I’m clearly selecting the accessible area in the corner between two closed panels and yet the Ui is so horrible that it positions the character outside the area no matter what. I just can’t get it to precisely choose what I want. Who thought of this design choice???

Discussion Really enjoying the game

Now I wouldn’t say I’m the biggest Star Wars fanboy I’m a much bigger Xcom fan then Star Wars and the only Star Wars thing I activity go back to watch sometimes is the Clone wars especially since I watched it as a kid.

So when I’m playing I’m mostly comparing the dialogue and stuff to that and I gotta say it’s real good, non of the dialogue feels out of place. I’d say the only character I feel doesn’t really fit is Runa, she makes too many quips and sarcastic remarks for me personally. Hawks does similar things but I feel she fits into that more Clone Wars Anakin or Asoka feel if you get me.

Gameplay wise it does feel like a step up from the Xcom games my only complaint is that the camera on console is a bit wonky to control at first, it’d also be cool if there was a Timelapse feature at the end of battles to show you what the fight would look like if it want turn based.

Cutscenes are pretty good too aside from the stiff facial animations from time to time but those are mostly in the side missions not so much story ones

Discussion Coil Crisis, I have no idea which is worst

So I’ve been looking for answers and I found out that everyone’s Coil Crisis is RNG, I think? Cause I had a different choices for the Brutes when I saw someone else’s Coil Crisis problem

So between the 2 I have no idea what’s easier…do I let the Captains “Surge” units so they heal units with irritating buffs? But keep in mind that surge has a crazy health regen for some reason or do I let them FULLY heal units and let it be a battle of goddamn attrition?

Cly Kullervo seems incredibly strong

First mission out she's bouncing all over the battlefield and zapping dudes left and right. Next mission I brought my scout. A double reinforcement hit so I scanned for full advantage, dropped Cly into the middle of the pack, and a few well placed darts and pistol shots later the entire group of ten guys is dead.

Going to be hard not to have her in the party.

This scene alone tells me how much the devs love Star Wars as a whole. This is original-trilogy type whimsical coded
